The GE 29096-GE1 offers a perfect way to retain your favorite old phone and still take advantage of the latest call-screening technology. This small wall-mountable box, measuring just 4 by 4 inches, contains a three-line LCD with an adjustable backlight, making it easy to read under most any lighting conditions. Compatible with either traditional caller ID or call-waiting/caller ID, you'll always know who's on the phone--even if you're already on the other line. When the unit is purchased new, GE includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't last long
I have had several of these units in the past couple of years. When they work, they work great. However, they fail frequently, often after only a few months of use.I have never had one last much over a year. Many of the problems are the same as some other reviewers have mentioned - unit says low batteries, but a change of battery either doesn't help or only for a short while; hard to change batteries; etc.My current problem is the call waiting function has stopped working, although the caller id for the first call is ok.Unfortunately, I cannot find another model that features the call waiting function.

1-0 out of 5 stars a worthless piece of junk
This is a worthless piece of junk. The three batteries are not held tightly enough in place; they constantly slip away from the coiled spring connectors, and then the unit stops functioning. I've tried everything imaginable to correct this problem but nothing works. It's amazing how a major corporation can spend millions of dollars hiring design "experts" who are so lacking in imagination andbasic engineering skills.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good little unit for the price
We've had this for a couple of months, and so far it's done exactly what it needs to do.Only two things about it are less than perfect: 1) it's hard to see the caller information in low light, and 2) if there are new calls, a little red light continues to blink until you clear them all out.Overall, though, it's doing exactly what we bought it to do, and is a good value for the price. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars BASIC phone
I guess for $15.00, you should not expect too much. The phone's display is only readable at the max setting. The ringer is annoying. The main problem with the phone is that all the cables are hard wired. The curly handset cord is extremely short and cannot be replaced. The cord to plug into the jack is about 15' too long for wall mounting. Again this cord is hardwired so you have to wind it up under the phone. You may want to spring for a $20 phone instead of this one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phones, but length of phone lines matters
We replaced an aged Merlin system with these phones, and in general we're quite satisfied. The only limitation we found was that we can't use all eight phones at once in our 13-room, 4-story house. Evidently, the total length of all the phone lines -- probably several hundred feet -- is just too long. With a bit of fiddling, we got seven working solidly, and they make for a terrific phone system that meets all our needs. We expect to use all eight instruments in time, as two or three separate systems, so I can forgive this one problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
This review should really be 4-1/2 stars but that's not an option, so...
2-0 out of 5 stars No speed dial or answering machine
The phone has excellent sound quality but I was very disappointed that it only has three speed dial numbers - It has 8 extension buttons that I will never use since it is for my home office. They should have reversed the buttons, 10 speed dials and 3 extensions.

2-0 out of 5 stars Caller ID Stopped Working on Day 3
Love this phone.....if only the Caller ID would work!It worked fine on day 1, day 2 worked on and off.....day 3 Caller ID not working.Tried moving the phone to different outlets, removing the batteries & putting them back in, tried new wire etc.... The phone works great otherwise.Loved the Caller ID when it was working--much larger than most and easy to read. Oh well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you want in a corded phone!
Corded phones with features are becoming harder to find now-a-days.My home needed one corded phone for sure fire communications during power outages, mobile phone down for whatever reason, etc. This is one of the few corded phones with caller ID and no answering machine built in.The greatest feature of this phone is it has a HOLD button so one can place a call on hold while one gets high tech cordless, etc. Also with the built in speaker phone this phone is great in the kitchen.Highly recommend this for your one corded phone in the house!

4-0 out of 5 stars 7 new speaker phones
At first, I was unable to conference from room to room, one of the features that I had chosen the phone and spent extra money for and it turned out that the problem had a simple solution, reversing the plugs in the phone jacks. Changing the plug to jack arrangement also got the lines ringing in the proper order (line 1 appearing as line 1). I hope that this tip is helpful to another user. The hold button has a low visibility profile and when I first went to put a call on hold, I was searching frantically and I am tempted to paint that button a bright color. I still can't figure out what the phone means when it tells me that I have 35 (etc.) new calls. I set the phone to roll over to an answering service when I leave the office and I am uneasy that I should be doing something about these new calls. I think that my unease will dissipate over time, but now, I feel like the phone has the upper hand!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Options for Small Business or Large Home
I'm shopped around for a good phone system for a few months until I landed on this unit.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's great when they get it right!
I've been looking for a high-quality multi-line office phone for several months, and have had a few bad experiences. It seemed that I got what I paid for, which was low-price, low-quality, and I just couldn't find a good solution for less than several hundred (or thousand)dollars. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars FAILED AFTER5 MONTHS-AT&T WON'T HONOR THEIR OWN WARRANTY!!
It seemed like a great product until it forgot how to hang up the phone line, which happened after 5 months of occasional use.The (800) number for warranty service provides a message that "Warranty Service for this Model has been Discontinued" and refers you to the AT&T web site.Using "contact us" on the web site resulted in an email suggesting that I call the (800) number. So much for a one-year warranty, and so much for "GENUINE AT&T QUALITY".Next time I'm buying another brand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone
I bought this phone to replace a 10+ year old Panasonic model KX-T3175.This phone is equal in all features carried forward, and has attractive new features like built-in caller ID, intercom, and headset capabilities that make it superior. My LCD display is plenty bright, and contains more information than my previous set.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed
The LCD display sucks. The display does not seem to have any kind of backlight. All the extension flash until you assign them a number even if you have no extensions. According to Panasonic the phone should have a backlight. This is the second phone I am going to return.

1-0 out of 5 stars Skip this phone!
I was mainly looking for a corded phone with caller ID that I could have near my computer in my office (since apparently my cordless signal was messing up my DSL). Unfortunately, the caller ID was apparently the least of my problems. With this phone, I could not use my computer at the same time anyway since the cord did not reach from the telephone table immediately next to my desk (about 1.5 feet from my chair)! Not only that, but the caller ID required batteries, which I had to replace about every month. You'll be angry at the time you waste trying to rig this one for actual everyday use. Skip it! Spend a little more money and spare yourself the irritation.

1-0 out of 5 stars Trashcan
This phone has a short and non-replaceble handset cord. It has a short and non-replaceable line cord. It lasted less than a day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice product!
It is excellent! Well designed. Works perfectly and no any problem. I am happy with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars So so.
I was looking for a coreded phone that I could plug my standard headset into.I went to Staples to see which phones had this capability, and the Panasonic KX-TSC14B did, and at a reasonable price. Please note that I did not require a 2-line phone; it seems that all phones with a headset jack (at least at Staples) were 2-line phones.
2-0 out of 5 stars What has happened to telephones recently?
So corded phones have now joined the ranks of junk "consumable" electronics along with hair driers and toaster ovens? In my search for a decent 2 line corded phone with caller ID, I purchased and with great disappointment returned 2 AT&T models (once the gold standard of all phones!)and finally, several months into the process, exhausted and desparate, settled on this Panasonic. Unlike the AT&Ts, all of the features work, but there is no mute, no reserve power supply (for shame!)and the LED screen is impossible to read from any angle except from directly above. I do not recommend this or any other two line phone. The situation is pathetic! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Caller ID not working
I ordered two of these. There are other phones in the house that have caller ID working, but neither of these do.I called the support number and was told to try to remove all the other phones to see if they interfere. If that is the case am I supposed to not have the other phones?I have FIOS internet and I can see that the phone lines come through that equipment.Perhaps these phones have a compatibility issue that the others do not.

4-0 out of 5 stars Does its Job
This phone installed easily, has good sound, caller ID is visible. hooks securely. That's about all we wanted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good little corded phone
Since there is now relatively few choices for a good corded phone (esp. with caller ID), this phone is tops. This phone and all other AT&T phones corded or cordless, exhibit slight feedback when talking loud or when hanging up.But no other phone out there seems to be nearly as durable.Given the other choices, this is the one to get. ... Editorial Review

The corded design of this classic phone may look old-fashioned, but you'll be glad to have it on hand in the event of a power outage. You can place the base on a convenient surface or easily mount it on the wall, saving on counter space. A 50-number phone book lets you store your most frequently called numbers, and the 20-number redial allows you to easily resume interrupted conversations. With subscription to local service, the three-line LCD screen lets you know the name and number of callers--and stores up to 50 calls in its memory, that you can return at the touch of a button. The phone and keypad are black. The KX-TSC11B comes with a one-year warranty covering parts and service.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Who cares if it is easy to use.
My office has five of these phones- none of them are problem free. The numbers do not work on a few of them and the sound is terrible on another.I have read through the manual which offers no valuable trouble shooting tips.I called the 1-800 help line and it has been disconnected, the website also no longer exists.
1-0 out of 5 stars Looks good on paper, but...
I got this phone for the telephone company voice mail indicator, which other 4-line phones don't have. After about a year, the results have been quite unsatisfactory:5-0 out of 5 stars Easy Hookup, Good Range
Does it all--except you cannot hear the party talk back to a page until they pick it up.Everything else it superb. ... Read more

Editorial Review

A solidly crafted phone created with small businesses in mind, the AT&T 972 is an old-fashioned corded phone supplying a consistently reliable connection on up to two separate lines. The cord is the only old-fashioned feature about this model: it includes three-party conferencing, call waiting/caller ID compatibility (with subscription to local service) and external data ports that allow you to connect a fax or other office machine.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I love AT&T products... but this one disappoints
The AT&T 972 has some nice features to talk about (nice button arrangement, easy to access incoming/outgoing calls list, programming speed dials, etc.). The big problem is that it falls seriously short in outgoing voice quality from the handset and/or the speakerphone. The incoming side seems to be fine on the handset and speakerphone, that is, you can hear them just fine. The problem is that people I call say that my voice sounds "tinny" or is "clipping" (cutting off the high frequencies) when I use the handset. Using the speakerphone, no one could understand me unless I spoke with my mouth right next to the speakerphone. Obviously, this will not work for anyone.
2-0 out of 5 stars Nice "Human design" and features, BUT speakerphone problems
First let me say that the speakerphone produces plenty of volume, much better than most other phones I have tried. This was especially important since I often participate on nightly conference calls overseas where low receive level is often a problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor choice
I purchased 12 of these units for my office and have had constant trouble with them. The customer service help number is worthless and don't see any option except looking for another phonesystem. The phones intercoms don't work and the sound quality is poor due to too much background noise picked up through the mouthpiece. Placing the caller on hold and transferring to another phone sometimes locks the phone line. These phones might be fine as stand alone but don't buy for multiple phone setup which they were supposedly designed for.

I bought this phone 2 years ago and I would recommend you to look elsewhere.Read more
