5-0 out of 5 stars Nice phone, available in multiple colors
This phone is available in graphite and Titanium blue, under five seperate Amazon listings. You can find them by their ASIN number or by the tag i added.it's ATT974
1-0 out of 5 stars speakerphone has problems
I purchased 3 of these for my office back in October.First the speakerphone microphone on the one on my desk stopped working most of the time.I had been planning on exchanging the phone on my desk with a coworkers since I use the speakerphone on a daily basis. My investors were out this week and were on a conference call on another of the phones, that microphone stopped working.Today I had a phone interview and the THIRD phone microphone stopped working! They work for 15 or 20 seconds, then the party on the other end can't hear you. These are gone.I was also hoping for a visual indicator that there were messages waiting when you use Verizon Centrex/voicemail.No go there.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're searching for a good quality phone, this is it!
The sound quality is very good and all the functions seem to work properly. Most of the features are very user friendly, easy to figure out. For the rest, the manual clearly tells you how to use them. I researched many phones before deciding on this one and was not disappointed. This makes a great office phone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lesson Learned
It was one of limited few that meet all my criteria for the home office.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good except for the outgoing message quality
I have just started using this phone today, and while it mostly lives up to my expectations, I have run into a major problem with the answering system:when I record the outgoing message on either line, the audio quality is extremely poor.I did just as the manual described - spoke at normal volume 9 in. from the unit - with poor results every time.I was also amazed that one is forced to record the announcement through the speakerphone, not the handset, making it sound as if it were recorded... well, over a speakerphone (but with an extra dose of poor audio quality). One worksaround is to record from the cordless handset, which allows you to use a headset.Still, bad quality even with the cordless handset.
3-0 out of 5 stars Problem on outgoing calls
I bought this phone as soon as it came out because it had the features I wanted. I have been generally pleased with it except for one major issue: every so often I will make a call and the party on the other end hears nothing. This is particularly frustrating since I can think I'm leaving a message on the other party's voicemail but nothing is recorded because my voice doesn't come through. While AT&T's Customer Service is virtually useless, they did replace the unit. Unfortunately the new phone has exactly the same problem. After trying endlessly to talk to a technical person, I was told that they have never had this complaint before. I can't believe that I just got two phones with exactly the same defect. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great unless you have DSL.....
We bought this system for our small office and loved it for about a year until we got DSL and then the entire system went haywire. Apparently, the system uses the same frequency as DSL and you have to order a special splitter and have your phone company install it for you to correct the problem. Well I spent 2 hours on the phone with At&t arguing with them before they would even agree to send me a splitter and then an hour on the phone with Bellsouth explaining what I needed them to do. Repairman came out, crawled the house, etc and apparently it's not going to work any way we do it. So we wasted our money on this system and now have to replace it. So be careful...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
I bought this phone mainly because I wanted a model that had numerous speed-dialing buttons and a decent speakerphone. Thus far, I am very pleased with the model. The 945 is a 4-line phone designed for office use, but it works great as a home phone. It has 16 speed dial buttons located on the right side of the phone. This makes it a snap to call family and friends by just pushing two buttons - one for speakerphone and one for the number. The speakerphone seems to work well and I also like the green backlit lcd display, which generally looks cool but also makes the phone easy to use in the dark. It also displays the date, time, number dialed, and phone call length, useful for keeping track of how long an interesting (or not) conversation has been going on for. Phone preferences can be set by an easy to use on-screen menu system and there are also a bunch of ring tones to choose from, which I appreciate because I have chosen a lower frequency tone that is so much more pleasant than the typical high-pitched annoying telephone ring my last phone had. Be aware, though, that Caller ID isn't supported on this phone. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars AT&T should have done better
Same problems that others have noted:
2-0 out of 5 stars flawed and clunky but it won't die
I bought this b/c it was on sale at best buy for US$thirty, And b/c i wanted 1) corded phone for the times I want a secure line, and 2) speaker phone for convenience when i get put on hold by customer service of [name of any company here].I agree the answering machine sound could be better, but the worst part is that i can't turn down the volume of the tone sounds when i push the number keys. You can adjust the volume of the conversation, but not the beeps when you push the number pad. If i have the earpiece to my ear, the volume of the beeps is pain inducing. It sounds petty, but it is a real ergonomic flaw - almost a deal breaker for me. Also when going through your messages it is way too easy to delete the next message rather than the one you just listened to. For a desk speaker phone it should have a better place to label your speed dials; the included sticker just plain doesn't. Overall it is marginally serviceable phone but every use involves a little pain, and is in no way a pleasure to own. Unfortunately, i've had none of the breakdowns others have reported, so i can't justify throwing the dang thing out and getting a better one. Sadly, i've had it for about 2 years and it still seems to work fine.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cord keeps falling out
The phone isn't too bad except that we have to hold the cord or it falls out in midsentence. We've tried different cords and we have the same problem.Plus even with the battery backup I have to reset the time and date a lot. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Intercom doesn't work on my wiring
One of the nice concepts of this phone was the idea of using it as an intercom. I have a huge house, and it's nice to be able to intercom someone in their room instead of going all the way over there each time.
1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Phone on the Planet
Everything wrong cited in the earlier reviews is true. The poorest quality at the highest price--shame on you AT&T.Based on my experience with this product, I will never purchase an AT&T branded anything.

1-0 out of 5 stars Typical cheap Asian electronics
In other words, lots of claimed features, many of which are unnecessary, conflict with one another and are poorly documented. Additionally, we found that this unit (although not the 944 slave) is subject to RFI (static), which required us to relocate it to another room.

2-0 out of 5 stars Audio is not good and it's hard to program
I've had a LOT of phone machines and this one is OK, but the audio is really marginal. It's also a bear to program. I always have to find the manual to do the simplest things. It also loses the time - can't they keep the clock alive from phone line power in case you get a glitch in the power line ? I guess not....
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
My less than a year old AT&T 1817 has earned my complete mistrust. Some important messages became mysteriously inaccessible on it while I was making arrangements to have some major surgery. More have disappeared since. 3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
I experience a good deal of static while using the telephone.Plus, even with the volume all the way up, I miss parts of the message unless the person leaving the message talks loudly enough so the machine records all of it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not as good as my old one
It does what it's supposed to do, but the remote access doesn't work too well. You can only delete all messages rather that deleting them individually, and you must keep the remote password that comes with the phone - you cannot change it to something you want.

2-0 out of 5 stars poor design
1. Remote operation: You cannot use a cell phone to check messages remotely on this phone (Southwest Bell Help Line) making this service useless for most operators.
2-0 out of 5 stars poor design
It works, and it takes messages, but I expected more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Still looking for a decent 2 line phone & answerer!
I bought this a year ago to replace an almost-new AT&T model when I discovered that the AT&T model had a nasty habit of hanging up on people in mid-message, or sometimes failing to answer at all. In other words, the AT&T machine was garbage.
4-0 out of 5 stars durable two line with long recording time and vox activated
This is a great answering machine for the person who is looking for an extended time that the incoming caller can record (100 min.) and allows the caller to leave as long of a message as they want. You just can't find this on any of the phones available at this time 12/27/2003. I have been using this phone since it first came out, approx 4yrs ago. At the time I thought it was pricy ($249.00) not including shipping, but I'd pay it again, the phone is that worth it. It is durable, I've dropped it several times on hardwood floors, and keeps on delivering those messages.Easy to use, many features that I don't use, because I never took the time to investigate them all.I would like one thing it doesn't have and that is a removable hand set, but it works well in sync with the other two line panasonics I have plugged into other jacks, so it's ok.I wish panasonic still made a machine with these features, multi line and decent speaker phone....I know others who would like this phone, but can't find it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Still looking for something less complicated!
Overall, a good machine; speakerphone and caller ID memory are wonderful. But lots of steps to follow to access basic functions, even remotely. A couple of times, I know for certain that this machine has failed to record messages from callers...NOT good! Also, the recording quality leaves a bit to be desired, too; this is particularly true of the outgoing message quality; for some reason the callers' messages come through more clearly. (Hint: record your outgoing message remotely, from a quiet location--seriously!) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars So-so
I like all the features of this phone, especially the great display and the automatic saving of phone numbers from your received calls. It's very easy to just save them into your directory. If only the sound quality were better. We've had it 2 years, and now there is static on the line and the speakerphone fades in and out.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great phone at this price
I bought this phone a year ago to replace another aging AT&T speaker phone for home use (speaker phone is a must if you do a lot of phone conference, or talk to customer service which will put you on hold for half an hour). Overall I am satisfied with the phone's quality, function and relability.
2-0 out of 5 stars died after 14 months
We were satisfied with this phone for 14 months. Then one day we came home and there was a static sound coming out of the speaker. It got gradually louder and then went silent. 1-0 out of 5 stars Voice-prompts drive me crazy
After using this phone for a month, I've finally had it and ordered a new phone to replace this one.The quality of the phone is good, the buttons are large, lighted and easy to see. One minor problem is that people have to call twice to leave a message because they get cut off by the answering machine. The straw that broke the camel's back is the maddening voice prompts.Intially, they are helpful - they guide you through setting up the phone and using the answering machine, but...THEY CAN'T BE TURNED OFF ! You can't erase a message untill you listen to the phone telling you how to erase it.I called the toll free # to ask if it could be turned off and the polite person on the other end said "no it can't".I told her it gets in the way and is annoying, she told me that older people really appreciate it.
3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for when you need to talk on the phone
this phone is.. fine. The big complaint is the digital answering part. My voice sounds like a crazy robot on playback, and when people leave messages they are all kind of shrill sounding (or maybe that's just my friends). The volume for the answering playback on my phone seems to be a bit touchy as well. It seems to go from quiet to loud with nothing in between. we don't use the caller id features, so I can't really comment about that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great features, easy to use
This is the best phone I have ever owned, hands-down, based on my lifestyle. My job requires me to work on-call, which means there are many times I work nights and sleep during the day. The features on this phone are perfect for someone with an unpredictable schedule who works on call.

This answering machine was decent for a number of years but recently it's been a source of trouble. The fact that picking up another phone doesn't shut it off was always annoying, but our troubles grew as it went haywire after a series of power failures. It now says that memory is full even though no messages are stored. We can no longer record greetings, meaning that it is now useful only as a phone. The most frustrating part is that Casio's customer service number is no longer operable and their website does not list phones and answering machines as products they currently produce. Thus, if you have a problem, you will be unable to receive support. If you're considering buying this now (2006) or in the future, I'd recommend something else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, I'd buy another w/o looking around
I bought two of these phones for my parents (for main phone and a home office phone). The great thing about the phone is that it has a digital VM and Caller ID in one phone. It also can be set to have the VM pick up on the first ring when a telemarketer calls (and blocks their number). The VM is annoying because, like was already mentioned, if the power goes out, your greeting is erased. Two other annoying things, you have to listen to the whole message before erasing it and the VM doesn't shut off when you pick up the handset.I'd buy another one if it meant I didn't have to look for a better one.
