2-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
I got this unit at Target after my old DVD player conked out. I was just looking for a replacement DVD player, and then this unit caught my eye. My VCR was also getting old, and I thought it would be a good idea to replace both in one shot. After all, it would be cheaper than getting seperate units, and there would be way less wiring involved, one less remote, etc.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disposable VCR/DVD
I purchased this vcr/dvd 6 months ago and the vcr no longer works.Any button I push on the console or the remote activates rewind. There are no service centers in Washington State - although it is sold by Costco.Labor is not covered after 3 months.I certainly would not recommend the product - but even more than that, I would not recommend the company. They do not stand behind their products.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gonna wanna stay away
I had previously sold my old Zenith Allegro VCR for $30 because it was time for an upgrade- the ol' Allegro had mono audio!!So I got this at Target on Clearance for $72.I hooked it up to component video (which I recommend for any television that will accept the red, green, and blue rca cables for video; best picture possible!) and the DVD looked pretty good, not as good as my Panasonic DVD player bought in fall 2001 which is still running perfectly! But as I was watching Season One of Scrubs, I rewind it quite frequently because Dr. Cox and the Janitor are freakin hilarious, the DVD starts freezing and then going to a spot a minute later, freezing, then going to a spot a minute later, etc.Not cool, breeze.I also noticed the audio is a 1/4 to 1/2 second late when playing DVD, also not cool.VCR works phenomenally, recorded my favorite shows without a problem.Easy menu and timer program setup with a bright colorful picture. The remote gets a little tricky in the dark while watching a movie- small buttons. If it was just a VCR which I was looking for first priority, I'd go ahead and praise this Daewoo puppy with the big 5 stars. But the DVD portion just wasn't up to my Panasonic expectations. It went back to Target and now i have a Panasonic V4523S VCR which impresses me yet again.I love you guys, Panasonic. ... From a VCR perspective, the unit's four-head recorder ensures high-quality video images whether you're recording from analog TV or DVD. The device also incorporates VCR Plus+, which makes it easy to record any scheduled program in just a few seconds, and an auto-clock-set feature that prevents the blinking "12:00" display. Read more

Housed in a silver chassis that complements Sony's Wega line of TVs and components, the SLV-N88 four-head VCR is a favorite among people who enjoy a little style with their substance. 1-0 out of 5 stars this thing really is a POJ.. piece o' junk!
I have bought much audio, video, and other gear over the years.I run a recording studio, and I edit video for a living. This VCR is in my living room, though... this is NOT part of a studio, just home use.
1-0 out of 5 stars Should have invested my money in Martha instead!
The unit is a little over one year old.Realistically used about three dozen times in that span because it is in our den and we have other units in other rooms we typically watch TV in.At about nine months old the video playback became awful: it was very "scratchy" and the audio disappeared.I thought it must have been my kids' Disney tapes or perhaps just needed a head cleaning.Tried new tapes and cleaning the heads with a dry cassette that also demagnetizes. It didn't cure the problem and I wrote it off to the fact that the head cleaner was several years old.Unfortunately, I didn't purchase a new head cleaner until after the warranty expired and met with the same results.Called Sony, explained the pre-warranty expiration problem and was told I could get a refurbished unit for a flat rate; about $89 (for a freakin' unit that costs about $100 new!).Unbelievable!I pressed the tech to speak with his supervisor to overlook the expiration in light of my house being filled with Sony products and my long history of purchasing only Sony.I was told they would review my claim.Still waiting three weeks later I called to follow up and was told they do not have any record of my complaint. What a joke for this company. They again said a senior customer advisor would review my claim and get back to me.Still waiting and they won't answer my e-mails.{Gave up on the phone - totally useless service.)Well, Consumer Reports rates Toshiba highly.Bought a DVD/TV combo that works great. We'll see in a year.

I bought this VCR back in February and am on my 3rd "refurb" from Philips. Of course, I received a defective remote with it. Hopefully, when I get my remote, I'll be able to actually USE my VCR. They really need to work on their quality control before they send these things out! Have a nice day

4-0 out of 5 stars So far, so good
This system has worked great so far (I've only had it 2 weeks). I decided on this model because I knew I was going to hook up an XBOX console to it, so the VBP 3000 would play my VHS movies and the XBOX would play my DVD movies. The two 5" screens that come with this system are seem to be good quality, with no viewing problems from any angle. Each screen has two built-in speakers that pleasantly surprised me, meaning the speakers are really loud and crystal clear. The screens plug right into the back of the VCR (which is powered by the vehicle's cigarette lighter), which in turn powers the screens. Each screen has a set of A/V jacks on it, which is where I plug the XBOX into. I chose to take this system out of the bag and place it under the driver's seat of my 2003 Saturn Vue, it is a perfect fit. My XBOX fits perfectly under the passenger seat, so niether the VCR or the XBOX are visible (hence no bulky, ugly bag dangling between the seats). The only reason this is not getting five stars is because I think Audiovox should have put a set of A/V jacks on the VCR. It's not really a big deal becuse each screen has it's own A/V jacks, but in my opinion a set of jacks on the VCR would eliminate unsightly RCA cables plugged into the side of the screen. I've had absolutely no problems with this unit, although the true test is around the corner when I drive 13 hours to Tennessee for Thanksgiving. As to not mislead anyone, you will need to buy a DC to AC "power inverter" to run any video game systems you want to hook up, but you'll need to do that with any mobile video system you choose to buy.

2-0 out of 5 stars broke in 5 months
I really liked this VCR, especially for the money, but it broke after only 5 months.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good vcr overall
I bought this vcr to replace a phillips one that cost twice as much and lasted 6 months. I love this Samsung VCR. As soon as you plug it in it sets itself to the right time. The rewind is incredibly fast (less than one minute to rewind a tape). Timer recording is a breeze to set up. The single best feature is that you can have 3 separate input lines and you can set the VCR to record from which line input you choose. I have my dvd player as one line input, my satellite coming in on another, and the antenna input on the 3rd. I can switch which one I'm watching instantly. The self-tracking system works great and a little graph pops up on the screen to let you know the progress of the tracking adjustment. In fact, there are only 2 minor annoyances that can be overlooked because of the outstanding value you get. 1. The coaxial jacks on the back of the vcr have very little room around them to get you fingers into to attach a cable. You have to use pliers. 2. On most vcr's when you can press fast forward once for medium fast and twice for even faster. The button does not do this on this vcr. If you press it once, it advances medium fast. If you press it twice it fast-forwards 30 seconds and then resumes play. But don't despair, as there is a separate shuttle button that allows you to fast forward or review in 3 different speeds. You just have to get used to using a different button for this. But like I said, I love this VCR and am buying one for my father for Christmas. I would recommend this VCR to everyone. Why spend more than (dollar amount) with all the features this stereo VCR has?

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Picture Quality, worse features
I purchased this VCR in December. At first there was just a small amouut of fuzz on screen, but 4 months later, I cannot even enjoy a movie. I have cleaned the heads, changed televisions, even used Monster Cables.....the fact is, this is just another flaw design by Panasonic. one other thing, this VCR makes more noise than a blender. You must have your speakers loud to hear over the moan of the vcr, and rewinding will wake the dead. One of the worse buys ever.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good, solid VCR
Overall, it's a good and so far reliable VCR.There's a couple of design functions that the manufacturer should have looked at a little closer before sending these out. While watching a movie the display reads "Play."I personally like to keep track of the time when watching a movie and have to push the Display button to get the time.Movies play well though I seem to hear this one more than my last VCR (low pitched hmmmmm). And the remote control!Don't get me started on the remote control!Just as reported by others, tiny buttons and weirdly arranged. But like any new appliance, you adjust and sooner or later if you spend enough quality time with it, you are able to push the buttons in the dark!Good clear picture when FF and REW.The commercial skip, while it sounds like a cool feature, is a little confusing. Panasonic should have done just a little more road testing with devoted movie watchers/vcr users to fine tune the design.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to complain for the price.
This VCR has all the essential features like indexing and labeling so you can find different recordings on your tapes later on as well as a "tape-position-on-screen-graphic" that helps one zero in on areas of the tape like the old music search feature on some cassette decks. Hey this is about as good as you're going to get for tapes! This is not DVD with instant access! Yes the buttons are small and the light feature only illuminates the bigger buttons in the dark like "play, rewind, fast forward and stop". The other buttons like "tape position" you can't see. You might want to have a mini flash light by your table so you can see the other buttons in the dark. Yes these are inconveniences but the price is so cheap that it doesn't seem to matter much to me. If these things are really important to you however, then you should spend the extra money and get those features. WARNING DO NOT BUY A VCR WITH CABLE BOX CONTROLLER WITHOUT FIRST CALLING YOUR LOCAL CABLE COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY'RE CABLE BOX CAN BE CONTROLLED BY THIS FEATURE ON THE VCR. MY DIGITAL CABLE BOX WAS INCAPABLE OF BEING CONTOLLED BY A VCR REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE VCR MANUFACTURER SAID. I purchased my last VCR with this feature but it was completely useless in that regard and was a big waste of money. This VCR doesn't have a cable box controller and is fine for me since the digital cable box I had would only program-record one channel at a time no matter what. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Long family road trips just got a lot more fun, thanks to Memorex's TravelView 43055, a one-piece mobile TV/VCR console that's designed to fit between the seats of most SUVs or minivans. Contained in a sleek black-and-gray housing, the TravelView includes a 9-inch color TV that angles up toward backseat passengers, a built in 3-inch speaker, two headphone jacks (handy when you want only the viewers to hear the sound), and front-panel audio-video inputs for connecting a video game (input audio is monaural only). The video cassette player lies tucked away beneath an armrest to save space (and to protect from spilled drinks), and Memorex even provides a full-function remote control.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars TV/MOVIE JUNKIE
LOVE LISTENING TO AND WATCHING TV/MOVIES - I FOUND THAT THE TRAVELVIEW SATISFIED BY ADDICTION TO TV -FIT PERFECT IN MY VAN BETWEEN THE TWO FRONT SEATS, I HAVE TWIN GRANDSONS (2 YRS OLD)AND A GRANDDAUGHER (12 YRS OLD) THEY ARE GREATLY ENTERTAINED BY THE TRAVELVIEW. I PURCHASED AN AC ADAPTER SO WHEN I NEED TO SEE ADDITIONAL TV (AT HOTEL OR VISITING RELATIVES) I TAKE THE TRAVELVIEW OUT OF THE VAN (EASILY REMOVED). MY KIDS REALLY ENJOY BEING ABLE TO PLAY THEIR GAMES AND ALSO WATCH MOVIES - THE ONLY FLAW WAS THE MANUAL WAS IN SPANISH AND I HAD A DIFFUCULT TIME TRYING TO FIND AN ADEQUATE ANTENNA ALSO, THE PRICE WAS GREAT - I WOULD RECOMMEND THE TRAVELVIEW TO ANYONE THAT NEEDS ENTERTAINMENT WHILE TRAVELING WITH KIDS/FAMILY OR WHOMEVER

3-0 out of 5 stars It works well despite Spanish version of Manual
I received the product with the Spanish version of the manual. It took me a while to figure out the installation/operation due to my limited Spanish.I went to the Memorex website to try and download the English version of the manual, but I couldn't find the product in their product listing despite many searches.I still don't have the English version of the manual, but I've figured out the basic operation of the VCR.

2-0 out of 5 stars Problems, problems everywhere.....
I purchased the Travelview for the long car ride to Disney World with a 2 year old and a 6 month old.The Travelview is an excellent product, as long as it is working, which apparantly it doesn't for very long. After only using it for 2 months, the vcp began eating the tapes, rendering the unit useless... I LOVED the Travelview for the 2 short months that it worked... ... Read more
