3-0 out of 5 stars How can the software be this bad?
I've been using a one-for-all 9910 RF remote for a while.I used JP1 to program it all nice and neat. The problem was you needed to explain to everyone (and remember yourself) what each button did and it wasn't as automated as the 890 promised to be.Plus I wanted one for my parents, so I thought I'd get one and try it out before subjecting the old folks to it (I'd program it for them).I love the features of the 890, and once it's running smoothly, it's mostly good (I need to get used to hard plastic buttons and I'd like a button to activate a feature on the TV when in any mode) but getting it set up is the most frustrating thing in the world. When you use JP1, you expect to hit a few bumps (buy a 40 dollar remote and 10 dollar cable and have at it).I hacked my tivo and set up networks in my house and my parents house, I'm not new to futzing around with electronics. When you spend over $250-$400 for a remote with web functionality, the setup should be much simpler. The remote crashes, locks up, gets corrupted and has system failures. The desktop software isn't any better :(I think one tip is to leave the battery out when syncing with the computer. That way, when the remote crashes, you don't have to take the battery out to reboot, simply unplug the usb cable.I thought I was going to break the battery cover for all the times I had to take it off.
5-0 out of 5 stars What you MUST know about this remote before making a Decision.
I read all the negative review and became VERY wary of purchasing. I decided due to the price and no clear runaway reason to go with another Universal remote to give this one a try. Boy am I glad I did that because it's GREAT once you get it programmed. There are 4 caveats!
3-0 out of 5 stars Logitech Harmony 890 Does Not Support Z-Wave RF Yet
The Logitech Harmony 890 is an exceptional universal remote. The screen and it's programability are great. It takes some practice to use the online programing system. However, when one gets use to the online programing system, it is easy to use.It does need some serious usability improvements.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worked at first but....
I bought this item about two months ago and was happy as can be. No more equipment in the tv room! About two weeks ago though, I noticed that the unit was slower and slower and I had to hit buttons repeatedly to get things done. It has eventually gotten to the point that it does not work at all. At first I thought it was batteries in the remote, so I replaced those a few times. Then I thought the placement of the IR transmitter was off, so I moved it closer to my AV rack. That worked at first, but the problem persisted so I reprogrammed, but to no avail. Eventually I narrowed it down to the remote unit. Even with the remote RIGHT NEXT TO THE IR Transmitter, it now does not work most of the time. Of course the real problem now is that all my av stuff is in a different room, so standard IR remotes (why do they even make those still????) are out of the question. I will be moving onto something else and keep my fingers crossed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Cheap Remote
This remote fills a very small niche and does it well.Inexpensive RF remotes are hard to come by and this one is very fully featured.RF+learning+macros for $30? Wow!I plan on getting a few to control an mp3 player and amplifier in the basement for my whole-house audio system.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent remote
Easy to program, easy to use.I programmed it to control my digital cable box, dvd player, vcr and tv without a hitch. The TV is a 20 year old Magnavox and it works like a charm! Great device. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars died in less than 9 months
nothing amazing as far as a remote control. The macro's are nice, but can be lived without. It was a solid remote for 8 months or so, then buttons started failing one by one until it was impossible to use, and I had to buy a new one. Buyer, beware! one-for-all only offers 90 days limited warranty!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's amazing
Our Satelite reciever/TiVo remote was dying and a replacement was $65!! This remote worked in 2 minutes and I was even able to program a couple of TiVo functions that weren't automatically in the remote. Simple, functional and reasonably priced. How can you beat that?

2-0 out of 5 stars Can program almost everything....but sucks (batteries)
I was happy to get this remote and was able to program this to replace the 7 I was switching between. The learning feature was great and easy if you follow instructions. However, it has completely drained 2 new sets of batteries on me.I'm getting an avg of 3 days for a new set of batts before it doesn't send the full signal and flashes "Low Battery".They were both brand new sets purchased that day.I even changed between Duracell and Energizer.Hmmmm...Also, it is quite large and having the DVR/Tivo/PVR controls on the bottom and toggles on the top can often require 2 hand remoting. It can save space but it's not the most convenient piece of electronics.I'm calling tech support this week to see if I just have a bad unit.I'd rather just get my $25 back. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great remote with a great price tag!
After doing a lot of research, and finally reading slick045's and Justin's review below (the icing on the cake), I decided to go with the 550.I was looking for a simple, cool looking, rectangular remote that could control all of my devices (without breaking the bank).Within an hour, I had the remote working exactly how I wanted (actually, in 10 minutes I had the first iteration of it going).I was suprised that it even had my remote control lights in the online database (3BM, which is not a common brand).I know a lot of people say the software is difficult, but once you spend 15 minutes playing around with it you will figure it out.I am technically savvy but I don't think you need to be with this remote's software...in fact, I was glad it had so much programming flexibility. The only "major" tweak I had to do was remove the delay on the 550 remote for my Scientific Atlanta cable box as there was a noticeable pause when entering channel numbers.I did this by going to "Adjust the delays" for the device and changing the "Inter-Device Delay" from 1000ms to 0ms and walla it was as quick as the original cable remote.I was also impressed how easy it was to set up the activities to do multiple commands at once.Bottom line, definitely a smart buy.As this is my first day with the remote, I will be sure to update if things change, but I really don't think they will.I am a happy customer down from 6 remotes to 1!

4-0 out of 5 stars A little confusing at first
This remote is pretty nice.It was a little confusing at first to set up but one you got the hang of it, it's very cool.I am pretty good with electornics and I use a lot of logitech equipment. But the web based interface to set up the remote is sloppy, and that's bad coming from logitech. But once you figure out how to set it up the way you want it, it works great.I like the customization, although tricky, its nice having one remote.Even my wife likes it and can work it and she isnt very tech savy.If you have the time to figure out how to set it up, it's a very slick remote and I would reccomend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Remote, controls everything including my Roomba!
Well, my Sima SUR-20 remote finally died after 5 years, so I had to find a replacement. I decided that I wanted a true universal/learning remote that had more than just a touchscreen. I started my search with Harmony because I have heard a lot of good things about them. My criteria included: learning, full macros, configurable, easy to use for less technologically advanced people, good button lay out, and no rechargeable batteries. This pretty much ruled out the 880, 720, and 890. Honestly, I'm not that big a fan of the peanut shape anyhow. So, my real choices became the 520 and 550. Not too much difference, mainly button layout and device limitations. In the end, I like the 550 layout best.

Editorial Review

The Sony RM-AX4000 Home Theater Remote Control can handle everything in your home audio-visual system, doing away with remote control clutter. It can control up to 16 components, and can operate several different components with a single key. The remote control comes up with PC software to customize and program the remote. An XPRESS function can execute a whole series of commands, and the sync-up key makes it easy to sync operational status on remote and alternate components. The RM-AX4000 works with Tivo and other DVRs. You can use the clock and timer function to set up to eight timer macros and turn components on and off automatically. A memory function preserves your settings, and a learning function can program signals from other remotes that use infrared signals. Four AA batteries power the illuminated LCD touch screen. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great hardware crippled by dreadful software
I've had my RM-AX4000 for about six months. The good news is that the hardware is every bit as good as the prior reviews say it is.
4-0 out of 5 stars Patience during setup really pays off
This remote does its job well. I had eight remotes to control the gear in my living room, and this thing took the place of all of them. I no longer lose them in the couch or forget where I put them last...and it no longer takes me five minutes to set up just to watch a movie or listen to music. Macros allow one button press to turn on (or off) all required equipment and set them to the correct mode. The backlight is pleasant, I like the audio feedback of button presses, and the sheer size of the thing feels good in my hands and prevents misplacement.
3-0 out of 5 stars Looks Better Than It Works
I was looking for an all-in-one remote. One that I could program most of the functions of each of my remotes onto this one.Well it doesn't quite do it.Also, it doesn't seem to have the remote code for my Mitsubishi 80" Diamond Vision HD Rear Projection TV.I do like the ability to program the device on my PC, save the programing on a file on my PC, then program the remote by plugging in a USB cable into my PC to download the program into the remote. You have to use the button image that they provide on the LCD and you can't create unique button images that match the button on the remote that I am trying to replace. It does have a one button feature to turn on all components and set all components (TV, Cable Box, DVD Player, Home Theater Sound System, etc.) which my wife loves, but it is not easy to program. Trying to program it to change my TV input from Cable Box to DVD player is challenging as you don't really know where the starting input will be.They should have designed it to return the TV input to a default starting location. Why didn't they think of this.If they had taken one home and used it themselves, they would have fixed all of it's short comings. All in all, Sony could have done alot better in designing this unit, but then again, I can't seem to find a remote that works better. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I wanted.
Wow!Why didn't I get these months ago???My amplifier is in a cabinet under my tv and for over two years I've had to open the cabinet door to control the volume whenever I watched a video or played a cd.No more!Heck I didn't even have to hook up the extra remote emmiter. The infared from the device bounces around inside the cabinet and controls the amp.It comes with plug in power converters (for each device) as well as a remote emitter if you need it.I had them up and working in less than 5 minutes. And, they use my existing remote control.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works better than most
I've had a bunch of these type products. This one is cheap and works as well or better than other brand extenders I've purchased.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Ausume technology
Small, lightweight and very easy to hookup.Set them in rooms needed, plug them in and wala...I used it for my Direct TV DVR.I upgraded to the Direct TV HD receiver, but couldn't part with my DVR (HD DVR too much $ right now).I put the DVR in another bedroom and then bought these so that we could access the DVR from the living room.Works great...just like the DVR was in the living room with us.Hightly recommend. Now my 55' HDTV is at it's full potential.HD programming plus the opportunity to use my PIP functions with two different receivers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great little remote
When my Toshiba VCR remote starting giving me problems, I decided to look into a Universal replacement.I don't care for their usual bulkiness, so this one stood out because of its slim-line design. The reviews were positive and the price unbelievably low, so I took a chance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to set up and works very well
We had used One For All remotes for years but when we got our Tivo a year or so ago I couldn't find a One For All that would work and bought a different brand. Those never worked well. We put up with them for a long time and then I thought I should look at the One For Alls again and found this unit. Bought two and we are very happy with them. They have a strong transmitter and when you push a button the button is pushed. No more getting channel 27 instead of 277 for example. These are good remotes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work well for me
My original remote for my t.v. broke.I bought this one to replace it and thought that if it would control at least as much of my dvd/vcr functions as the original t.v. remote had done, so much the better. But it controls only a limited number of the functions for each and will not allow full use of the devices' menus. Contrary tothe other very positive reviews here, I am not impressed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Even Speaks B&O!
I've owned a Radio Shack 6-in-1 Kameleon for a couple of years, and while I enjoyed the illuminated touchscreen and the excellent database of codes, I finally wearied of its excessive battery consumption and the cumbersome routine needed to change batteries.
5-0 out of 5 stars All-in-one remote that fits your budget!
I just bought this device three days ago, and boy was I fully satisfied! It's cool not because it's a universal remote but because it's a LEARNING remote. Before, I had to juggle among six remote controls to operate every component of my home theater-- not anymore! I was able to input the codes for my Panasonic HDTV, Pioneer THX receiver and Comcast Digital Cable Box. It doesn't end there, products whose codes do not appear in the blueprint can be programmed (or "taught") to the Sony universal remote. You simply place the Sony remote head to head with the other remote control and set it to "learn" the other remote's functions. With this cool feature, I was able to make my Sony remote control learn all the functions of my TiVo, Bose wave radio and surprisingly-- even my portable airconditioner! It absolutely simplified my life with just one remote control to operate ALL of my electronics. For the price, this is a steal!

5-0 out of 5 stars PowerfulSolid Learning Remote at Low Cost
Was looking for universal remote from Harmony 6xx series & One For All 89xx series but I don't see the need to install software/cables in order to program a remote....(a remote is suppose to make our life easier, not more complicate..)

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
The range on this product is no where near what was advertised.I purchased (2) units and neither will work consistently beyond 4-5 feet from mac.Attempted to improve operation by relocating mac, using USB extension cable, and changing ID on transmitter with no improvement.Extremely disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars almost perfect
great product. works as advertised except a little shorter on the range than i expected.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this
This product was absolutely awful.First of all it is VERY picky about the USB port you are using. My first attempt was to use it through a USB hub, because my mac mini doesn't have enough free ports. It did not like the USB hub at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for those who don't want to customize!
We used this remote to program a Sony AV-RM3000 remote, but we need more flexibility for our HTPC.In hindsight, we should have bought a stand-alone IR unit and something like the Girder software.Or, maybe just an IR wireless keyboard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Solution To get rid of all your remote controls!!!
Excellent solution to replce all these remotes hanging around the sofa, that if you manage to locate them.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, Functional, and Cool! Requires Costco membership to replenish battery supply!
I'm going on 2 years with this remote and it has held up beautifully. What few have failed to mention is just how sturdy this unit is.It's made of very tough and rigid materials such as an alloy metal chasis to frame and support the control panel.I've dropped the remote many times and it hits the ground like a rock. It's a fairly heavy unit relative to most modern light-weight plastic controllers. The control panel shows no signs of wear and the plastic part of the chassis is very high quality with a nice grip-able texture.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great one for all remote conversation piece
I've had this remote for over a year now. It has been fun and made for a lot of conversations. But, we're over it now and going to move on...to a remote with actual buttons on it. But I will be going with another One-For-All brand remote (the URC 9910). It truly is a single remote for everything. I use it for my JVC TV, XBox, Hauppauge PVR-250 video capture card to control a PC, Onkyo home theater system, and DirecTV satellite receiver.

The software installation is buggy. It try's to download the entire installation from the SnapStream web site, even though there is a installation disk included. If your web connection fails the installation trashes your system and you will need to reinstall Windows.I have Windows XP SP2 with a flakey internet connection. Although I am computer literate, after two attempts to install this product I have chucked the whole thing out the window. P.S. SnapStream has no tech service department to speak of!

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Remote, but beware - Beyond TV 4 is garbage
This is truly a great remote. It's comfortable, flexible, and easy to use.But I should warn you about the product it's designed to control, Beyond TV 4.THAT is total garbage!
5-0 out of 5 stars Performs solid!
I've used the ATI all-in-wonder remote with a make-shift media center solution before and it's been sluggish, and sometimes non-responsive.Not so for the FireFly.Quick, responsive and adaptive.

Egad! Upon receiving this remote control, I found that it requires four AAA batteries. There was no mention of that requirement in the product description! I concur with the other review writer: the control is top heavy, and I would add poorly designed. It's thick at the top and thin at the bottom, making it unwieldy. I will be returning this monstrosity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the money!
I just received this remote and I'm very happy with the purchase. It came with several codes for each brand of device, but mine worked with the first codes. The numbers even glow in the dark. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars...the batteries are all stored at the top of the remote and so it's slightly top-heavy in your hand. ... The HiFi Works 30010 HFWVC Stereo In-wall Volume Control is the perfect companion to the HiFi Works HFWS4 Four-pair Speaker Selector. When you have speakers installed in separate rooms, but connected to the main stereo receiver, nothing is more frustrating than running back and forth between rooms to control the volume. Save space on your coffee table while simplifying your electronics collection with this RCA universal remote control, which operates your TV, VCR, and cable box regardless of the brand. Outfitted in an attractive black housing that complements most components, the palm-sized remote is simple to use and fits snugly in the hand. It includes such VCR-specific buttons as rewind, play, fast forward, record, pause, and stop, while its TV buttons include channel recall, which returns you to a previous station, along with standard mute, channel, and volume options. Every bit as valuable is the unit's extensive code library, which makes it possible to control all but the most obscure devices.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheap remote-sheer laziness for me!
We have a tiny TV in the bedroom and we needed a cheap remote. But this was great for the pricec we paid and also it works with TV, VCR, etc. It also is pretty comfortable to use in terms of button sizes. Our TV is pretty old, but we found a code in the handbook for that and from that day on, we dont get up to shut it off, just before we sleep. It's been sheer laziness, aha!

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't work with my DVD player
This is a really good remote for my Panasonic TV and Sony VCR, but it won't work with my GE DVD player. I have a 6-device RCA Universal Remote, and it don't work either.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth your money!
The Philips Magnavox name is well-known for good products, but this isn't one of them! The remote is easy to program and the light up feature makes channel surfing in the dark a breeze. However, I have only had my remote for six months and it already doesn't work. I found that the channel +/- keys and volume keys were not responding when I pressed them. I have found that this is a common problem with universal remotes as I have tried three or four different brands. I also have to reprogram the control a lot. For some reason, if it isn't used in a while, it loses the code that was programmed. I also didn't like that the power button was right below the channel down button - I often would turn the TV off by mistake when I just wanted to go back a channel! Spend a little more and order a new remote from the company who made your TV. It will save you a lot of hassle and money in the end!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great remote
We are really happy with this remote. It works perfectly with Star Choice. It has been reliable and tough (we have several small children). It was the cheapest yet best universal remote we have purchased yet.

2-0 out of 5 stars It works...but the buttons are unresponsive
I have been using this remote for a couple of years now, and it has done it's job. The setup was straightforward and painless, and the remote was able to recognize TV's, VCR's and DVD players (a mix of 4 year old to brand new model electronics). HOWEVER, some buttons are really unresponsive. In particular, my CHANNEL DOWN button essentially doesn't work. You'd have to push the button over and over and over and wiggle it around before the TV would maybe change a channel. Other buttons are the same way. I'd say about 90% of the buttons work fine. However, I'm sick of having to wiggle buttons around (which is why I am currently surfing Amazon to buy a new remote control). Not sure if the dysfunctional buttons are the case for all the remotes, but the problems are very real on mine. Spend a couple more bucks and get a better remote, in my humble opinion. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Best remote I've used
[ This is almost the same as my 676 review ]
4-0 out of 5 stars Remote Awesome - Setup DIFFICULT!
Read the logitech.com forums before buying this one. Installing the application and establishing communication with the remote took over an hour! The USB connection software is buggy and kept lockig up the remote. This happened on TWO remotes I configured for two different people. In the forum you'll see hundreds have this same problem. After overcoming that, the remote is FANTASTIC!!! The only downfall is it is a very Macro specific remote. Don't dare turn off the TV by hand, that will throw everything off. Still, the best universal remote I've ever owned.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, great pricing
This is an amazing product. It is so easy to setup. It knows the controls of 5 out of my 6 electronic components, and learns the 6th one easily. I just want to get few more of this.
