4-0 out of 5 stars Good radio, great price
We've been using the FRS250 radio for about three years now with no major complaints.2-0 out of 5 stars BAD BAD BAD!
An electronics fan from New York State USA They are not good radios! they do not function right and always break. I'm from a company who rates diffrent dadios do not come out on top. Out of 350 radios tested it can out as 310th it is a waste of money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Radios
These radios are the best that I have ever used. They feature 14 channelsand 38 sub channels, that makes 532 different channels so even in the mostcrowded areas there is no problem finding an open channel. In the rare casethat someone wanders onto your channel they will not be able to listen inon your conversation because this radio encrypts or scrables your voice. The radios have a tremendous range of two miles considering how small theyare. At this price you can't afford not to have one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Disabling autoturnoff feature by Soldering 2 contacts togeth
I am interested in that option, someone wrote a review saying you can plug in the AC adapter to the radio and have in on continuous standby. Could the person email me and let me know how to do that?I see to contacts in the jack when I opened the radio, so do I simply solder the contact together. your help would be much appreciated. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent radios with many features
I've had a pair of these radios for several months and haven't had any problems at all with them. The noaa weather radio feature was very important and comes in very well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could've been better.
I've had 2 Cobra FRS-250 radios for several years, and I loved them. Being impressed with their quality, functionality and performance on ski slopes, I decided to stick with the brand andpurchased a pair of PR-1100 when I needed 2 more radios. Stay connected with your buddies while hiking on the trail, riding the ski lift, or exploring other locations within a 2-mile window with this pair of GMRS540 two-way radios. Boasting a smaller range than many of Uniden's other two-way radios, the GMRS540s are particularly ideal for casual communications, such as keeping in touch with pals at the ballpark, rather than strenuous activities that might require a lifesaving response.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Less expensive than a Nextel
I purchased this product several years ago because it's frequency codes were most compatible with its other products. Not so with other products. Also this had the NOAA weather feature, handy for hiking. Not only does this have 22 channels (1-14 FRS & 15-22 GMRS), but it has 38 privacy codes for each channel. The Amazon description is inaccurate with regard to range. This is a 1/2 mile (FRS) and maximum 2 mile (GMRS) unit. Two miles is ideal line of site, so if you can't be seen, your reception is reduced.I find that I can get approx 1/2 mile through houses, trees and hills in the neighborhood.
1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disapointing
Bought four of these this past summer.Best range we've experienced is about 1 mile. That was once and the planets must have all been aligned "just perfectly".Usually get only a 1/3 to 1/2 mile. Two of the four units lately are so staticy and garbled you can't carry on a conversation. As soon as I get a chance their getting shipped back to Uniden under warranty.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice product for the money
I picked up a pair of these and they seem to be pretty nice radios for the money. The subcodes are compatible with the Motorola, and the range similar to other FRS products.I have never tested GMRS range. The weather alert is a nice feature.I have a couple issues with the product, the volume is too low, which is offset by having the mic gain too high, so the radio works well with its pair, but people other brands of radios may not be very loud, and others brands may have trouble understanding you when you speak 1 inch from the mic (speak further away). Also the squelch release is slower than Motorolas and Kenwoods, so the first thing people say may get cut off.Still not a bad radio for the price. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great value, even better with rebate!
Got the radio for a family trip to the beach and it worked great. Didn't have a problem with too many other people using the frequencies, but appreciated the 38 sub channels. I especially liked the large talk button- made it easy to find when communicating. We had some other radios with us with small same size buttons which made it harder to find to talk. The range was fine, as we also used it in our cars on our way to the beach. Cheaper and easier than making cell phone calls to each other all the time. I also recommend getting the Aquapac waterproof cover. The covers are a little pricey but worth it. I can't tell you how many times I waded into the water to fish only to have a wave come up and drench me. The covers also keep out the sand and other junk from messing up the radio. No problem with hearing or speaking through the cover.

5-0 out of 5 stars A useful gadget for the average family outing...
My husband, young daughters and I own horses, and trailride at least once a week. Santa brought us four of these lovely little two-ways this year at Christmas, and I couldn't be more pleased. We've had none of the troubles noted in the other reviews, (although we don't ride on mountaintops), and my children find the radios simple to use and easy to understand (not to mention the cool factor!).5-0 out of 5 stars Great little Radio
We put these little radios through several tests hiking and camping theCascades this summer and they passed with flying colors. The range was muchbetter than expected. The kids found them easy to use and they took abeating. Somehow the radios came out in great shape and will be used formany other activities. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value for the Money
I recently purchased a set of Audiovox GMRS7001-2.We operated them side by side with the larger Cobra PR-4000 series radios.
4-0 out of 5 stars Audiovox GMRS7001CH-2
After a Christmas-crazy visit with my two boys to the states, and repeated fears of losing them in the crowds (they seem to enjoy cutting more years off my life than my ex-wife) I saw some family's using FRS radios. As I work with similar items in the military, I thought 'let's give it a shot'.I have to admit, I bought by price first, features second.I was pretty certain the 7-mile range wasn't going to ever be seen, but it certainly beat standing at the mall information counter paging the family. However, we've found each and every feature to work as advertised.Honestly, I've only tested them out to 5 miles, on a holiday drive in separate cars, but they've worked perfectly.Given price, performance-as-advertised, and easy online warranty and FCC license registration, I can't argue. I'm certain there are better out there, but I doubt it at this price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
I recently purchased the AudioVox GMRS7001-2 2-way radios.I have had several 2-way radios in the past couple years.Motorolas, Cobras and a Garmin.I've found them very useful for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, etc.The Cobras only had watt of transmit power, the others had the 2-watt transmitters.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best FRS radios I had!!!
When I first bought these at [local store], there were [money], and it included a [money] mail in rebate!I didn't mail in the rebate, because I wanted to test them out, first. The next Friday, my Law Enforcement group had an event that required radios.I just bought these, so I bring them along, not expecting any one to bring enough for the whole group.Well, someone did, and when he saw my radio, he was shocked.First of all, he said that mines' was "top of the line", and it was expensive.I just told him that I bought it from a shopping center, Secondly, his 4 radios costed more than what it would cost me less if Ibought mines' in bulk. So, he just continually commented on my radio, and he got so jealous that he was about to exchange his radios for mine, but to bad for him, the radio I bought just went out of stock. So, I still have the T289 till this day, making it 5 months today, since I bought them. The only problem is that my light doesn't work, and that is getting annoying. But, overall, I love this radio, and I am willing to sell my other pair of radios to get this.:)

4-0 out of 5 stars Stay in touch...the cheap way
I bought 2 of these units, with 4 more backordered. This has been a great unit for staying in contact while shopping, hiking, driving, etc.The kids love it, and the belt attachment makes it easy to hook on a handbag strap, belt, etc.5-0 out of 5 stars Slim and sleek
I love these little radios. We tested them in the car (one stayed in a wooded park while the other drove around town). Estimated 3 miles before we hit even the smallest amount of static. The only thing I would recommend is a handsfree headset so you can ride bikes, etc without having to hold anything. I read the other reviews before buying mine and they had a great influence. All are true except the pesky annoyance everyone talks about with the "push to talk" button. I personally can't find anything wrong with it. I just hold it differently. The microphone where you talk into is NOT located directly below the button, but off to the side, almost on the edge of the radio. The only weight of these little buggers is from the three AA. Basically, put three AA batteries in your hand and that is a simulation of what these radios feel like. I can't wait to try them skiing and hiking. We have played like kids on them for over a week now and haven't gotten tired of them. I would buy them all over again if I had to. Definately worth buying- don't look any where else (believe me I looked and looked) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars you really dont want one
This is a good radio dont get me wrong however, let me explain.I have had one for about three years then the problems started. The main thing is now it transmits intermediately and the problem is in the new design. It seems to save money (not yours) they have put a couple of small circuit boards with non repairable components on the main board.eventually with the bouncing and jarring these crack. My tech. cannot repair it and cobra doesnt want to sell him the parts. So i basically have a small boat anchor. Plus he told me that the sound tracker models are mainly junk. the only two he recomended were the classics and he told me that for the money the unidens are best deal and withstand the abuse better. (he doesnt even stock a cobra). I am a truck driver and the radios do go through some rough riding.I have switched to uniden! ... Read more
