Editorial Review Experience the pleasures of your vinyl records anew with Denon's DP-500M direct-drive turntable, a quality component built to deliver analog sound that will exceed your most vivid recollection. The DP-500M uses a quartz-lock servo that controls platter rotation via intervals of optical pulses passing through a slit, ensuring accurate rotation with no deviation from the center. Read more

Denon has a winner this time.
Denon is to be commended for replacing their previous micro-processor turntables with a more basic unit. This machine has no bells and whistles such as speed control, stobe, slip mat, or supplied cartridge.Such things are fine for professional use, but an audiophile user at home has no real need for such items. They more likely just want a solid table that will rotate at the correct speed, and track their records accurately and without distortion. They would probably also prefer to chose the cartridge with the help of a dealer. After several months use with a number of mid-piced cartridges, I can attest that The DP-500M performs these functions admirably. It also looks very attractive.
For the price, a great turntable!
I have wanted a Denon DD manual turntable ever since I first saw and heard the unfortunately departed DP-62F.
What Happened Denon ???
The Denon DP-500MX is sort of the (half-hearted) continuation or in a long lineage of their high end audiophile turntables of years gone by.The two major questions I have for Denon is why they didn't make this newer model with improved or solid and reliable automatic micro-processed features and why the price? Obviously, turntables are not in high demand for home use any more. But, if a company is going to develop a pricey 'table, give us some reliable and solidly built bells and whistles to go with it... The last high end model was the micro-processed controlled DP-47F from the mid 90's.It was the last of a dying breed of fully automatic players for vinyl enthusiasts to revive the venerable l.p.It was a gorgeous piece of an audio component loaded with all the automated and computerized gizmos any hi-fi tech junkie could possibly desire (servo computer controlled tonearm, laser light to detect record size, precise cueing of the arm in either direction without ever touching the arm itself, heavy, shiny rosewood base, etc.)The only major drawback of the computerized loaded Denons was when a circuitboard or chip burned out or problems developed with the automated arm, without warranty, repairs became costly and parts were scarce and almost non-existant.On top, you had to find yourself a specialized turntable repair guy who not only could fix the mechanical issues, but who thoroughly understood and could repair or replace microprocessors(in this day and age VERY few turntable repair techs out there). The later Denon turntables proved to be finicky and touchy machines that would develop arm, servo motor, or speed playback problems...In the end they were pretty to look at but not reliable in the long run and expensive to repair.Just look at some of the Denons listed on eBay (some are listed to sell but with major computerized arm or motor speed fluctuation issues ). Still, their playback operation was ultra-smooth, precise and extremely quiet. That servo-computerized tonearm was something to marvel at.Unfortunately, the tradeoff that was sacrificed for all the electronic micro-processed controls was long lasting reliable durability! Hmmm...Maybe this is why Denon finally decided to go the manual route and avoid the high tech automatic controls that would malfunction sooner or later ?...

Great product but (beware) comes without a cartridge!
Great product but comes without a cartridge! Make sure you order a cartdrige at the same time ...
Great tool for mixing, recording, DJing.
This turntable allows you to play 33 rpm, 45 rpm, and 78 rpm!
A professional tool
I haven't owned a turntable since the seventies, so this seemed like an excellent device to hook up to my computer and turn all those great old LPs into CDs. Much to my consternation, it ships without a needle ("cartridge" to you audiophiles). What's that about? For someone who has only purchased cheap all-in-one sound systems, this required a minor research project. Research project #2 will be how to get it connected to my computer. Yes, it has a "digital ouput" port -- S/P DIF (which means Sony/Phillips Digital Interface), with an RCA jack. All the ports on my sound card are 1/8" mini-stereo. What next? I have to admit that this is a beautiful piece of equipment-- elegantly designed, but clearly targeted at the knowledgeable DJ... But, help the beginner, unless, like me, your thrills come from climbing learning curves. I'll write another review when I get it working!

Editorial Review Relive the era of sock hops and soda jerks with this classic Teac '50-style stereo system. The SL-A100R combines a mid-20th-century aesthetic (witness the jukebox-like front panel and three-speed turntable) with modern sound quality, letting you enjoy your favorite LPs time and again. The system also includes an analog AM/FM tuner with a rotary dial and a pair of integrated stereo speakers with chrome highlights. It's the belt-driven turntable that really impresses, however, as it not only looks cool, but plays back 33-1/3 rpm albums, 45 rpm singles, and classic jazz-age 78s--a speed for every taste. It also includes a cover that protects the vinyl during playback. Read more

Editorial Review Ideal for scratching and battling, the Stanton 505 SK II phono cartridge appeals to DJs who value high-quality sound at an affordable price. The cartridge features a super-sturdy spherical 0.7 mm stylus coupled with a pumped-up output, resulting in a deep bass response and in-your-face sound. The wide-band frequency response (20 Hz to 17 kHz) is particularly suited to high-energy playback--the kind of extra punch you need to quake the dance floor. The 505 SK II also enjoys a skip-resistant tracking force of 2 to 5 grams, and adheres to even the most worn-out grooves. Compatible with any standard 1/2-inch turntable tonearm, the 505 SK II is a good low-cost, high-value solution.

Editorial Review Stanton engineered the ST-150 super-high-torque digital turntable with one goal in mind: give DJs a no-nonsense turntable with all the essentials but none of the silly frills that often get in the way while mixing. In other words, the objective is high performance, not mindless distraction. The turntable's primary selling point is its industry-leading torque motor--up to 4.5 kilograms of force per square centimeter--along with its ultra-stable platter and height-adjustable S-shaped tonearm. The powerful motor makes mixing far more accurate, and improves the results of everything from reversing to scratching, especially among experienced DJs who know how to handle a deck. The turntable is also remarkably durable, with a solid-steel top case and a tough rubber base that both resist vibration and stand up to rough handling. Read more

Top Notch Turns
These turns are awesome, and better than any other turns out there; yeah they're even better than the latest Technics, which are not much of an improvement over their previous versions. The reason these are better is because Stanton put a lot of research into these bad boys, whereas Technics have taken for granted their status. Now they're paying for it.

The way a cartridge is supposed to be
OK,
Excellent Cartridge.
I bought this cartridge for my Music Hall MMF-5 after reading some reviews that gave positive marks to the unit's ease of listening.I am just getting back into vinyl right now but this cartridge for the money was a great buy and I have enjoyed it for about 20 hours so far.It was easy to setup if you are at all familiar with the process and comes with a nice aluminum case that has a small brush in it to clean the stylus. I listen to everything from jazz to hip hop and the M97xE is great for kicking back and really listening to some good vinyl. I read that it had a more laid back sound instead of being more in your face.I think it is a good combination of detail and non-fatiguing listening.

Editorial Review No, they don't put phono inputs on too many components anymore. And no, you can't plug your turntable into any old audio input. But you can use Recoton's affordable and compact SP-2 outboard phono preamplifier to give your trusty record spinner a new lease on life. Just plug your turntable's left/right RCA outputs into the SP-2, fix your turntable's ground wire somewhere on a grounded component, run a stereo analog audio interconnect between the SP-2 and your audio/video receiver or computer system, and you're ready to start enjoying the wonders of analog stereo once again. Preamps are becoming a must-have item if you own a turntable these days...
these preamps are pure gold, and are about as hard to find as pure gold these days too.back in the good old days (and i'm not that old), stereos came with a jack specifically for record players, and the jack had a preamp built in.but those are becoming more & more rare, which is why these preamps are necessary.most electronics retailers don't carry them anymore, either, which is a real tragedy.i went to radio shack, frys & magnolia audio (the only electronics stores in my area) and none of them carried turntable preamps (or hardly any turntable accessories at all, for that matter).radio shack said that i could order the preamp from their website, to the tune of $50.fortunately i did a google search and found the exact same item here on amazon for $20.basically, if you want to run a turntable through your home stereo or computer, you need this preamp.and this recoton one is a good product.i own 2 of them now, and they've never conked out or failed me in any way.
do not buy this brand
Sent item back to the company and got a rejected mail saying, "COMPANY OUT OF BUSINESS, RETURN TO SENDER". The company address on the label is:
Good Bang for Buck
I just bought this to use on an old turntable with my new stereo equipment.I only have 3 records so it didn't make sense to spend a lot of money.I haven't used it a whole lot but the times that I have it has worked very well. Its to bad that my records aren't in great condition to fully use the quality.

Features Shure Tracking Force Gauge measures force of turntable stylusPrecise, 0.05 gram increment scale measures force of stylus on recordPrevents mistracking, excessive record and tip wear, and poor sound reproductionFor use with all Shure and other brands of turntable stylus

A must-have accessory for the vinylphile
The Shure SFG-2 Tracking Force Gauge is a well-made precision device that gives you an accurate reading (within a 10th of a gram) of your tracking force. Even if you have a tonearm with a tracking force scale on the counterweight, this provides a much more accurate way of knowing exactly how much force is being exerted on your precious records.
Simple and Functional.
This gauge is exelent for setting stylus force. Especially if you have a tonearm that does not have a tracking force weight scale like the Rega RB 250 on my Goldring gr 1.2. Although this gauge is not as acurite as digital gauges which cost $200+ it is still far more acurite than any scale on a tonearm weight.
