Great little prouduct for the price, and what it does!
Don't get me wrong. This is not a high end techno turntable by any means. However, it IS a nice little unit for playing back your old vinyl.
wow a groovy record player
my mom has hundreds of records and for years said she missed hearing them so i bought her this record player its very cool it looks like the old 60s record players and u dont need a stereo the speakers are built in it has classic looks with modern reliability it plays all 3 speeds of records too im in love with it! any true musician will tell you alot of older music simply sounds best on a record player i play alot of my moms blues records on this it looks and sounds just too cool and its cheap so go ahead and buy this today youll be glad u did ... Beautiful Product, Abysmal Turntable
The RCA Lawton is a beautiful piece of furniture. The cabinet is all wood, marvelously finished. The horn is only decorative, but is all metal with a polished brass appearance. On the right side is a hand crank. While the hand crank does nothing on this unit, it does so with a marvelously fluid/smooth motion when turned.

COULDA BEEN A CONTENDER!
Wow, how many people have been waiting for new technology to play our old vinyl?This player is nice in concept, however, too many corners have been cut expense-wise to make this an outstanding piece of equipment (for which you are paying quite an unbelievableprice!) The sound is NOT what you would expect.No doubt they built scratch filtering in the amplifier so you have very little treble effect.Turning the tone control towards bass just makes the treble even less, it does not add a booming bass.The turntable is sturdy enough and has done quite well in the 3 months that I have owned itThe 45 inserts which look nice are annoying to use, but I have found a nice spindle called the OMNIDAPTOR and it has been my great find, allowing me to stack about 6-7 45's.The vinyl covering is sticky adhesive so you will have the edges peeling in no time.The construction is sturdy though, and the handles and clasps are screwed into place giving a nice custom touch.They really could have done so much more with this thing, like external speaker jacks, a way to turn off the scratch filter, 2 separate speakers (you just have to take their word that this is stereo with 2 speakers inside).I have kept mine just because there is no competition, so no alternative on the market.It's not that bad once you get used to it, and its great playing the old vinyl again.It's a popular player, I 've discovered, because the local store at the mall that sells them were out of stock within 2 months.Luckily it was a birthday present otherwise I would have felt cheated by the amount of $$$ I could have spent on this!!!!

NO 78 STYLUS
I have been looking for a long time for a record player to play my old 78 rpm records. This one CLAIMS that it can play them, and indeed it has a 45, 33 and 78 rpm speed control, HOWEVER, it does NOT come with a 78 stylus, only one for 45 and 33 rpm records.Read more

Excellent value for the money
My local electronics superstore has a small assortment of cheap plastic turntables for sale. The Music Hall MMF is a quantum leap beyond anything you will find in the isles of mass produced consumer electronics.
ok but you can do better
I looked at the mmf 2.1 at my local hiFi shop and It is ok for a $300 turntable and I might have bought it but they happened to have the Goldring GR 1.2 (Rega P2 with a Goldring electra cartridge)which normally costs $475 on sale for $300. After hearing the Goldring I could tell it was a far seperior product. The Goldring tracks better due to it's Rega RB250 tonearm and elektra cartridge which has an eliptical stylus as aposed to the conicle stylus on the elan cartridge that the mmf 2.1 includes. The Goldring also seemed to be made better (smoother motor and bearings,MDF platter that absorbs vibration).If your on a tight budget the mmf 2.1 is ok but if you have an extra $175 or you find a turntable like the Goldring GR 1.2 on saleyou can get a much better turntable.

Looks better than it works
I bought this turntable to convert a bunch of my old vinyl into digital files and CDs. I'd say it was only moderately successful, and not without a lot of trial and error. First of all, my local retailer had to open every box to make sure the turntable worked, he said there is a high failure rate. These tables are made in Eastern Europe. Mine worked, but I could not get the tracking right. I followed the instructions carefully, but it was still very light, and skipped easily. I took it back, and we used a tracking gauge, which showed we had to use a much higher force than indicated on the tracking dial on the tonearm. Even then, I would say the sound is good but not great, not as good as the Bang & Olufsen it replaced (I needed a manual table for recording). It's too bad there are no mid-price quality turntables anymore, just the $79 junkboxes and $500 and up audiophile equipment. ... Read more

By doing nothing the best, they do something right
These aren't perfect at anything, but they are a nice, pleasant happy medium in sound quality, tracking, and distortion characteristics.When they get harsh, it's rarely as bad as the Nightclubs can occasionally get.When they get bassy, it's never as bad as the ATP's.When they distort, it's usually not as bad as the 500 series.And when there's a little mud, at least there's still more detail than the 680 series.On some phono preamps the mids sound great.On others it's the bass.Still others reveal respectable highs.I've never gotten them all right, but it's not so far off from neutral ever that it sounds significantly wrong.Then there's the ability to track well at just 2.5 grams.Occasionally the lower mids can get a little cold on mixers like the Xone 62, and the FIMD rasp isn't as low as the 680 or even the Nightclubs.There tends to also be a little channel imbalance and variation on the styli, but they are at least relatively cheap to replace if you get several in a pack...less than half of a Nightclub needle. ...
