sounds much better than expected
I bought this unit in order to transfer some of my old LPs to iPod. I expected the result to be comparable to the old days of recording to tape: Pops and other noise permanantly recorded onto a new medium. Wrong! The Audacity software makes it easy to remove minor background crackles and pops.It's also easy to divide the final recording into individual tracks, and to normalize the volume so your various recordings have a balanced output level. The final recordings sound surprisingly good, with a full mid-range and not much of the digital tinny sound that is present on some CD's.

With this product I am able to "rip" records for which I've never been able to find a CD.This is great for listening on my iPod to those obscure songs I really like.
great timesaver for burning vinyl
All these reviewers complain of cheap construction and lack of frills but I'd imagine all these people, like myself, have another turntable. I would not recommend this as your only turntable but for the job of burning your vinyl to your hard drive, this is a godsend. Setup seemed pretty straight forward although I have a Vaio, not a Dell, so I can't speak for that system. If you want to burn MP3's, you will need to download LAME, a quick google search away. Remember where you put Lame on your hard drive as you will need to tell Audacity (the Ion software program) where the Lame_enc.dll driver is the first time you make an MP3. Does the job, if you don't care about quality
As others have said, the quality of the turntable is really poor. I can't believe that a reputable company like Teac would turn out such a cheap quality product. The tone-arm is far too heavy on the record, and there is no way to adjust it. If all you really want to do is get your vinyl on to a CD, well, this will do the job without being too complicated; but at the cost of having good quality sound.
I wish I could give zero stars!!!Save your time and $$$!
Like many others, I have a huge collection of L.P.'s and have been looking for an easy way to turn them digital.I thought this was the way to go.
Very disappointing
I set this up and recorded one of my LP's on a CD. (Caution: It requires special audio CD's not the usual computer CD's.) The CD played on the TEAC machine, but not on any of the 3 other CD players I have in the house. And I couldn't load any of the tracks onto my Ipod. Sending it back for something else. ... Read more

Incredible deal-don't miss out on this!
First of all, let me say that I am a very discerning music listener, and have always talked of the superiority of vinyl to all other music playback mediums. This turntable is by far the best you can get on a budget, surpassing many far more expensive than it in both sound quality and options. If you are considering buying a less expensive table, please do yourself a favour and stop. You will only be subjecting yourself to poor quality sound, and even worse craftsmanship as most tables under $200 will only last you a few years at most (I know from experience, unfortunately).
Super craftmanship
I've been impressed with every facet of this machine...quiet, easy to operate, and great reproductive sound. I am in the process of transforming all my LPs to CDs so I use this baby nearly every day. Don't see how anyone could be disappointed.

Be careful please
I implore you to be very careful about your turntable purchase decision. This Sony table will not make the most out of your listening experience. It has very low quality playback (the stylus picks up more scratches than it does music), the included preamp is mediocre at best, and the belt drive is slightly off pitch. This was my first turtable purchase, and a much regretted one. After only a few years, the motor broke and played only at 45 rpm, necesitating another purchase. I understand what it is to be on a budget, and $60 is very tempting, but if you have to spend that every few years, it adds up fast. You will really be doing yourself a favour in the long run if you spend the extra money on a nicer one and eat raman noodles for a while. The Audio-Technica AT-PL120 direct drive turntable featured on this page is a far superior system, and will give you many more years of faithful service in addition to a much better listening experience. However, if $200 is far out of your reach, then this won't be a horrible table to whet your appetite for a while, and the average listener won't mind the difference in playback quality.

Disposable turntable.
I bought this turntable and got a couple years use out of it, and while it worked, it worked.If you're buying something to use once in a blue moon, this one might do.But if you actually play your records, sooner or later, you'll need to replace the stylus.Or the cartridge.Either way, if you buy this one, you're out of luck.The diamond fell of the stylus on mine, and there doesn't seem to be anything that's replaceable.There's no removable cartridge like you'd find on any decent quality turntable manufactured in the 1980s. Now there doesn't seem to be anything to do with mine other than throw it in the trash.It wasn't terribly expensive--the whole turntable can be had for not a whole lot more than a good quality cartridge--so it's disposability isn't that big a deal from a strictly economic standpoint.But darn it, it just rubs me the wrong way.I'd rather pay a bit more to have something that I can still use ten years down the line than to save a few bucks on something that's going to end up in a landfill in a couple years.

Great but not stackable :(
After listening to 7 or 8 vinyls I fell back in love with my old albums - but then after laying down and having to get up every 4 tracks to flip the discs - I recalled a time when I could stack 4,5,6,7,8,9...albums and they would drop and keep on playing - then you flipped them all over to hear the B-sides.I hate getting up.I don't have knobs on my TV (remember that UHF knob ugh!) to switch channels every 30 minutes, why would I want to get up right in the middle of a great series of albums?

Product is Garbage, Numark is No Help
I have a massive record collection, and had continued buying records even after the Aiwa turntable I had stopped working.I saw this on Amazon and saw it was small, reasonably priced, and had a pitch control.Initially I played my 7" records on it, and it was just fine.Once I started playing my 12" records the trouble began.About halfway through any record I play the pitch begins to waver (subtly speeds up and slows down).I contacted Numark and told them about the problem.I got a response telling me I needed to buy a different needle to play 78 RPM records on the turntable.This was a confusing response as I hadn't even mentioned 78 RPM records in my e-mail (nor do I own any).So I write again and explain that my question wasn't answered.So then I'm told I should try to balance the arm properly.I write back again and say that I mentioned in BOTH my e-mails that the unit I was inquiring about was a PT-01, and this model has a pre-balanced (non-adjustable) arm.Numark wrote back "oh you're right, just return to dealer".Unfortunately it's too late for that, and Numark was NO help.Their customer service 'team' couldn't even be bothered to read e-mails and answer accordingly.Do not buy this unit, I wasted $100 and now I have to buy a new turntable.I assure you, it won't be a Numark!

The Best
I have used this system for cleaning my vinyl for more than 20 years.They've been around for a long time, and stayed around even throughout the years when vinyl wasn't "cool."I'm sure there are more expensive ways to clean a record, but this is by far the most effective for the least cash.It even works on old vinyl that hasn't been taken care of, as in being sticky or just generally yucky, which those expensive so-called vacuum systems may not remove.Always clean your records in the direction of the grooves (this is included in the instructions) and you will enjoy your recordings for many, many years to come.I have records over 40 years old that still sound brand new because I use the Discwasher.

Still the best LP cleaning system in 30 years
One can obtain more fancy and expensive LP cleaning devices that sell in the $500 to $900 range. However, for the modest price, Discwasher remains one of the best and most effective on the market. As one can see from the photo, Discwasher consists of a rounded striated cushion affixed to a wooden handle, the whole thing the size of a small blackboard eraser. Three drops of special fluid (one can use filtered water) are smeared along one edge of the cushion which is then gently pressed against the spinning disc, picking up ambient dust by some sort of capillary or static-elec action. Then the dry side is applied as the finishing touch. I still use mine religiously. The very popular Discwasher is not only cheap, but unlike similar models that have come and gone, the damn thing really works! Cheap turntable skips alot.
I bought this to copy my stack of vinyl to CD's. Unfortunatly, the record players cheap price reflects its performance. I was not able to copy a single LP to CD without it skipping tracks. There are no adjustments on the turntable. I finally dug out my old Dual 1218 and revived it enough to use it. There is no match between my 30+ year old Dual and the PL50. So far the Dual has played all records without a single skip. After spending many hours trying to be happy with my purchase, I finally threw the PL50 in the trash. I would not want to sell it in a garage sale or on eBay to someone who would expect a turntable that they could use. Save your money, don't buy this one.

As a non audiophile I am impressed by the ease of setup. Finding the right XP settings is the biggest headache. I am recording my 2nd LP while writing this. After one glitch of the belt slipping off the turntable everything is working as advertised. What they don't tell you
We ordered this turntable and it arrived in a timely fashion.It was easy to hook up.HOWEVER we were unable to get any volume.I e-mailed Panasonic which their answer was so delayed that I had solved the problem.Their suggestions were of no value anyway.I called Panasonic and spoke to three different departments.No one knew what the problem was.Finally we were told we needed a phono preamp because the turn table did not have one built in.Panasonic did not make one and did notknow where I could find one.We found one at Amazon, it arrived quickly.It took five minutes to hook up and we were good to go.I think Panasonic does a great disservice by not mentioning this in its ad.The phono preamp was a Recoton by Beach Audio and cost $25.16 plus shipping.

A fine turntable to play that old Decca Phase 4 vinylon
I had doubts about a simple turntable doing the job as well as this one. It works just fine. Tracks well, and the included cartridge is not at all bad in squeezing decent sound out of those old albums. This is semi automatic,meaning you set a switch to "cuing,' place the tone arm above the lead in track. Then close the plastic hatch if you like, and then move the switch to the down position. After the last track,the arm returns to its plastic holder. It is easier than it sounds. For initial setup the skinny silicone rubber belt needs to be slipped onto a shaft that connects to the platter underneath the unit (a two minute job with a pencil) and then you are good to go. This one will sit on a shelf with about 10" of hatch clearance. I attached the ground wire,but I suspect that it is not needed. I would place it on a stable shelf just for avoiding thumps at low frequency if you touch the shelf during play.
Excellent turntable for the money
This turntable performs flawlessly, the factory adjustments are right on spec... Sound quality is very good... If you want to listen to music and not constantly mess with adjustments then this is the one to get... The supplied stylus tracks very well, never skips or jumps, and produces very good quality sound... I also have one of those so called DJ turntables with direct drive and all the beeps and whistles for adjustments and a very expensive shure stylus with it, and the sound quality is just as good with this semi-automatic SLBD20D.Plus with a direct drive you can hear the rumble of the direct drive system if you listen closely... with the belt drive there is no wow or flutter associated with the mechanical operation of the platter... In my opinion a belt drive table is the only way to go for superior sound quality... Don't worry about replacing the belt due to wear, if you can't spring for $5.00 to $10 every 5 to 10 years then suffer with rumble of a direct drive... by the way the direct drive rubber wheel can also wear and get hard and crack and it cost alot more to replace than a simple rubber band...I suppose that there are other brands that are a little less expensive that would get the job done as well but I happen to trust Technics, they have been making turntables a long time and also their turntables are the benchmarks by which all others are compared too.

my new stereo
I ordered this turntable stereo because I have over 300 vinyl albums that I would like to be able to play and recently got rid of my gigantic 1970's era stereo with speakers.I love the compact size of this turntable and the sound quality is just fine.There's nothing like putting on ABBA's greatest hits and hearing "Mamma Mia" coming out of the speakers.It will put a smile on anyone's face!

Made a cheap turntable sound great on a high-end system.
I decided to dust off my old Technics direct drive turntable and play some records in the family room for the kids.I connected it to my system, a rather high-end Naim Audio preamp and amp with KEF speakers, and it sounded just like you'd expect a typical turntable would sound when mated with a high end audiophile type stereo system.
Not quite the Holy Grail, but close enough.
Since the early 1980s, I've been bugged by end-of-side distortion and so far, only Denon's excellent (but discontinued) DL-304 MC has minimised inner-groove break-up to a notable extent. I read many glowing reviews of the AT440ML and itstracking abilities, so I gave it a go. It has coped remarkably well so far; and it's even outshone the Denon for inner-groove handling on a couple of key, annoying test records. It's a touch on the bright side and somewhat bass-light - and lacks the subtlety I've grown accustomed to from years of moving coil use. Connected to my Musical Fidelity X-LP2 phono stage, it's mind-bogglingly loud to the point of distortion, on many 12" singles. This is a problem, as the X-LP2 only facilitates attenuation of its moving coil input, not the moving magnet.

I've recorded my albums on reel-to-reel tape for over 40 years in order to preserve them.I listen to the tape, and store the vinyl.Cartridges recruited for this duty have been higher end Empires, Stantons, Pickerings, Grados, Shures, a moving coil Ortophon, and others I've forgotten.I decided to archive the albums to DVD.I was only interested in the tracking capability of this cartridge as audio correction would be employed, when needed, using multiple programs for click/pop elimination, noise reduction, and frequency response correction.My decision to buy this cartridge was based on much research, and I almost spent hundreds more on a couple of others.

I just got this turntable and it's something else. The turntable is heavy and very well built. Excellent performance and functionality! Set-up is quick and easy and the pre-amp sounds great. Even handles record scuffage better than other turntables at this price. I do not pretend to know much about record players, but this was AWESOME! It is virtually perfect! The wavey-old records play flawlessly because of the weighted arm, and it just plain rocks!

When you're comparing turntables on the lower end of the spectrum, such as the Pioneer PL-990, it's very difficult to really find audible fault with these players.One is more apt to find personal faults in the players rather than in the performance, and such is the case here.

I HAVE AN IDEA....
Hey, I stumbled on these nostalgic stereos, and they doo look very good. Some of them are smaller like those portable turntables we see on movies like "Sabrina"... and others like this one resemble the bigger ones complete with radio and the (more contemporary) CD players...
Teac GF-680 Console Stereo
Looks very nice, most of the features work great. Main problem is that the speakers are small, and there only two of them, and they are mounted below knee level. There are 2 RCA style plugs for external speaker, but they did not work. Had to open the back and hook up to the existing speakers. Once i attached 2 additional speakers at head level then the unit sounded great.

I really am enjoying this new stereo.It was very easy to program with radio stations and the quality of the sound is very good.My one spot of difficulty is in reading the buttons for the cassette player. Good Casual Listening Cartridge
This is a good all around cartridge especially if your not after a superior sound. It's very "neutral" and uncolored which is a real plus. However, the upper frequencies-cymbals, "sibilants" etc.-get pretty muddy. Don't let this scare you. This puppy, especially when mounted on a good straight arm P-mount, will track almost anything! If you can find a Shure 104E stylus to replace the stock stylus you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good the 92E cartridge really sounds! I only give it 4 stars because the stock stylus is a little lacking on the high end, at least to my ear anyway! Good overall value especially given that it's a "universal" mountingsystem.

Reasonably Sounding Cartridge At A Very Low Price !
I had this Shure cartridge when it first made it's debut.I'm gonna be nice and say that unless you have real old records, worn out records, the stuff you would never play on high end expensive equipment, then this cartridge is your answer ! If you use this on pristine records you will definitely hear the shortcomings of this cart with regards to tonal, frequency, and sibilant accuracy. Perfect Fit
I do a lot of comparison shopping- too much, in fact.I often become confused!I tried several different types of record players before this- from high end turntables to all-in-one models.If you are looking for a sturdy record player with integrated speakers to keep your record collection alive, this will fit the bill.I found the size, look and quality all to be right for the price.I paid more for a turntable that I hooked up to my sound system and wasn't as happy.I've found that when it comes to these items, the simpler, the better.This is a great record player- it has even inspired me to start buying vinyl again.If you are a very picky audiophile, you probably won't like it- but then you probably have a hard time finding anything to satisfy you!

Take your LPs on the road with is great player.
So I was in the market for a portable turntable. I wasn't really into the styling of the top load players...the plastic looking ones with chrome accents. They seemed cheap looking, and honestly a pain to transport. The suitcase model was an instant winner, the design is clean, simple and functional and the outer casing is tough as nails. The case looks big in pictures because a 78 is on the platter, in actuality it leaves a footprint a little smaller than 2 computer keyboards facing each other.

I love this turntable
This turntable is great!It's a 3-speed, so you can listen to all your music not just most.Only thing it is missing is an audio output.Plays great!Speakers are nice and loud!It has a tone adjuster which many turntables don't.Also, since this is sold through Amazon, shipping is quick and cheap!Since I am a member of Amazon Prime, I got it next day for $4, rather than $30 and 2-week shipping time.The only cheap alternative is the taec '50's style turntable sold by J&R on Amazon. ...
