Missing features
I bought this because Consumer Reports rated it highly and said that phones today had adopted technology more like cell phones.I don't agree at all; this unit has many limitations which could have been fixed by designing it more like a cell phone.Entering frequently called numbers is tedious.Cell phones usually allow you to easily save any dialed or received number into memory or 'directory,' so why can't you do that here? There are two handsets here, the base wired unit and the cordless handset. Why doesn't the cordless part automatically share the directory of the base unit without having to enter numbers all over again? Why are there no speed-dials on the base unit? And so on and so forth. As telephones, both handsets seem to work well and appear to be rugged, and it's professional looking enough for a business office. But plan to read the manual and spend time figuring it out.
Has potential for a one-line phone
First of all, I don't know where some people got the idea that this phone was advertised as a two-line instrument. I bought this phone, because I didn't want or need a two-line phone. I didn't have any issues with the quality, interference or range. Besides, this phone has several different frequencies you can use if the one you're using is not clear enough. Most older phones have that feature but many people have little idea how to use it. Another thing I noticed from reading some other reviews is people evidently like to abuse their phones (referring to quality), but I've had much cheaper phones (like GE) last me 3-4 yrs without any problems.I had high hopes for this unit, because of it's compact size, base layout and easy to understand instruction book. Setup was a snap. I had the phone for a couple days before I found something that forced me to return this unit. The caller id on the remote handset wouldn't continue displaying the caller's information after the first ring. If you let it ring more than once, you won't have a clue who's calling you unless you were close to the telephone base to view the information screen. Additionally, there was no feature or method to get the cordless handset to display that information while it was ringing. That for me was a biggest issue for me or else I would have gladly kept this one-line phone.
not a 2 line phone
Do NOT buy this if you need a two line phone!

Editorial Review Panasonic's KX-TG5240M utilizes the 5.8 GHz band and digital frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology for increased call security and range and for less interference. This system comes with one handset but can accommodate up to three more (for a total of four). Compatible with Caller ID/call waiting, the KX-TG5240M offers a 50-station caller ID memory and dialer, accessible through the handset's three-line backlit LCD. It also features talking caller ID, which audibly announces who's calling through the handset and base speakerphones. Rounding out the main features are an integrated digital answering system and a light-up antenna on the handset that flashes to alert you to new calls and messages. The handsets also offer a variety of ring tones and melodies to choose from. Read more

good phone, but serious problems
I bough the base and 5 additional remote sets from a reputable online company. Within a year, the LCD screens on all but 2 of the phones went blank, and the "reputable" company told me I had to deal with Panasonic, not them. As I no longer had the receipt, Panasonic would not fix / replace or even tell me there was any problem with the phones. I have been using them for about 3 years now and gone through 2 full sets of batteries. All the phones do still work, and their range is very good, but literally, 4 of the 6 LCD screen no longer worked, and have not worked for years. I woudl never buy this phone type again, and my suggestion is for others to look elsewhere. All the talk of a lawsuit, however, has produced nothing via google, and all links I have seen about the lawsuit were bogus. It's unfortunate, as it was a VERY expensive system for a home.
Excellent Value on a Great Product!
I have always been a fan of Panasonic telephones.Their functions and features are superior. This phone system is an excellent choice for VOIP and traditional lines.
WindyCityCouple is right!
I have had the same problem with my Panasonic KX-TG5240 phone, except that mine lasted longer than a month before it died.I cannot say I wasn't warned:the salesman told me to buy Uniden; he said there had been a lot of problems with the Panasonic handsets conking out.But I've had other Panasonic products over the years, and fell for the look and feel of the handset.Well, I've learned my lesson. The Uniden phones I bought for my apartment are still kicking; of the Panasonics purchased for another house, one works, one is dead. The unhelpful Panasonic customer representative suggested I remove the batteries and punch all keys to 'restart' the phone. As you can imagine, that did nothing. Guess I'll be Googling "Panasonic cordless phone class action lawsuit," though I hate being litigious.

Cute, but not necessarily convenient
Gone are the habits of rotary dialing -- adjusting to the rotary (push button) style of this phone has frustrated the family. The keys don't light up making it impossible to dial without turning on the lights.Note to self:use the cordless phone in an emergency. This phone opposes multi-tasking -- the design and weight make gripping the receiver between your ear and shoulder a joke. That said, it looks nice and fits in well with the stainless appliances in our kitchen. It's a sacrifice of utility for style.

AWESOME
I bought this phone about 2 weeks for myself mainly because I was curious about the talking caller-id.It works well and pronounces the name accurately to my surprise. I then got one for my mother who loves it.She told my aunt about it, now she wants one.I guess I'll be buying another one for her.Initially I was concerned because the volume was low even thoughI had it turned up to the max. After a few days it started getting louder. Now it's loud and clear. The same thing is true for the phone I got for my mother. She like the handset because it's light and fits comfortably in her hands. This phone has great features and is easy to use and set up.
cordless phone
I bought this phone as a gift. The recipient likes the speaker feature on the handset and the booster capability.

Appearances can be deceiving
From the picture on the box, I thought this was a "traditional" slimline phone where you run the base cord from the wall jack into the base then the handset cord runs from the base to the handset.Instead, the base cord and handset cord is all one unit, which is not what I was looking for.The "base" cord only has 2 pairs, which I realize is what most people need if they only have one line in their house.I use this type of phone to test analog lines at my business, so I often need a 4 pair cord.

AT&T Cordless Phone with Answering Machine
This item has met or exceeded my expectations.Having 4 around the house makes the intercom feature handy. There is plenty of time on the answering machine and the programming features for each phone provide added flexability.
There are better choices
I am an obssessive shopper, I like to do the research and then try different alternatives. In order to replace our old Motorola system that is a few years old and not working as well as a primary system needs to work, I tried the Uniden TRU8885 as well as the AT&T E5826BC before comming back to Motorola.I won't bore you with the technical details, you can read them for yourself, I will, however, give a summary of overall pros and cons. The reception on the 5.8 gHz sustems was noticable less than the Motorola 2.4 gHz and we have never had any interference from our wireless router. The ATT was nicely designed although the icon menus were difficult to navigate and you had to select the Caller Id (CID) menu from either the handset or the base before you could see calls.Once you selected them, there was no way to have local calls listed without the area code, so you couldn't dial from the CID log as you could from the Uniden and the Motorola. The Udiden was set up better but because of the 5.8 gHz freq has less reception than the 2.4 gHz Motorola, I found the buttons alittle small on the Uniden and ending calls was not always reliable as many times the phone rang after hanging up with the other party still connected. In addition, the Uniden answering machine picks up briefly every times the phone rings and is not answered even if the caller hangs up.I have found the Motorola's menu to be easy to navigate and very intuative. ATT and Uiden make a big deal about ring-tones which I don't care about, and ATT sings the praises of their color display that allows you to assign an icon for people in your phonebook.again, I don't care, I think that the Motorola is much easier to use, the reception has always been good, and the product reliable.I would by the Moto in a heartbeat over the competition.
I love it!
I'm in the process of buying another one for my mom.Favorite feature:along with caller ID, it voices the phone number while it's ringing. That means, that when it rings, I can hear who's calling, enabling me to run to the phone or forget it!!

Sleek phone - Software Bugs
- I woke up one morning to find my two cordless units with message "Searching for Base"
Expected better from AT&T
I actually find the sound quality and range pretty good, but I think the system is designed poorly. I can't tell you how many times I have been on the phone and wanted to scroll through my caller ID to get a number for someone I was talking to. No dice, it won't do that. There are a number of issues like that.I can't program it to prefer line 2 to make calls. You may think this is a not a big deal, except I don't like to reveal the line 1 number to my clients via there caller ID. So there went my private line.
Complete piece of S***
Sound quality is poor more than about 20' away.I had to the move the base to the center of the house (rather than the kitchen where we wanted it) to get it to work at all.I had to return a unit. Now I'm stuck with it sort of working but with clicky-popy sound.Don't buy this system.

Love My Princess
I just wish it had the dial-pad backlight, like it's original prdecessor. But it's SOOOO nice to use a phone that actually has some heft and doesn't feel like it was made by Fisher-Price.
Dead on arrival
I got this phone purchased for me off my wishlist and it arrived to me broken! We contacted customer service multiple times and had no response. This really sucks because it is a very cute phone, but BEWARE.
Delightful!
I was skeptical of ordering this online - however I was pleasantly surprised when I received the phone, it is great, it is a Real Phone, not these modern plastic faux chrome phones that have no personality. This phone has plenty of personality and the ring is also authentic. The only reason I did not rate this a 5 star is that I wish the dial had a light in it - that lights up at night - my original princess phone had that and I just loved that feature but all in all - you princesses out there will love it!!!
