4-0 out of 5 stars good tape deck, great price
I've never got around to installing a cd player in my truck, so I still record all of my cds on tape. When my tape deck recently broke, I was faced with a delimma.Buy a new tape deck, or install a cd player in my vehicle.Since I've made over 500 tape recordings of my cd's, I decided to stick with the tape deck. The TEAC W600-R is a great componant for the price. The recordings come out clear, with very little hissing. The functions are icreadibly easy to operate.I haven't yet used the tape to tape dubbing, since most of my recording is done from cds.I would absolutely recommend this recorder. You can't beat the price. ... Sony's TC-WE475 dual-well cassette player/recorder offers high quality and plenty of great features, including dual auto-reverse playback. When coupled with the deck's relay play feature, dual auto-reverse means you can enjoy up to three hours of continuous music from two 90-minute cassettes. One tape well plays, the other records. You can set the recording input level using a dedicated control or rely on Sony's auto level-setting feature to choose the most appropriate level for your tape (this works best on dynamically limited material such as pop music). Choose from normal- and high-speed dubbing: normal speed for higher fidelity, high speed for greater convenience.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Moderate Quality Audiophile Tape Deck
150 USD is not really an expensive price for a tape deck of this quality. That would be about 8 new CD's purchased in a store.Ten years ago tape decks cost more, but since cassette tapes are a quickly dying medium, lowering the price is the only enticement left.I have 150-200 cassette tapes with a mix of songs from about 1500 different CD's and albums, so even if I throw out 80-90% of my tapes that's still the equivalent of songs from 150+ different CD's.That would be an expensive replacement cost, let alone what the price of what 1500 CD's would cost.So a new cassette deck allows me access to those relatively few songs I still like.

Editorial Review

Harking back to the all-in-one systems that listeners used to own before digital formats became dominant, this Teac DC-D6300 shelf system will keep CD, vinyl, and cassette enthusiasts entertained for years. The 30-watt system is centered around a three-disc drawer-type CD changer for enjoying CDs, CD-Rs, or CD-RWs, along with a three-speed belt-driven turntable for revisiting your vintage 33-1/2, 45, or 78 rpm albums and singles (or even enjoying limited-edition new albums). Should you need to record from CD or vinyl, you can turn to the dual cassette deck, which offers playback, traditional recording, and tape-to-tape dubbing, depending on your needs. And as with most shelf systems, the DC-6300 also includes a digital AM/FM tuner with 40 total presets (20 AM and 20 FM). The presets make it easy to access your favorite stations at any time. 3-0 out of 5 stars Not good enough
I had a Sharp CMS-F800 for many years before this one. Since I'm bi-tonal, as it were,(records and tapes) I need these components, even in an age of CD's. I also have CD's now, so the added CD changer, while unnecessary, seemed like an asset. Amd yet, something registered that all this for this price, and in a handsome exterior, spelled trouble in terms of economizing somewhere. I would have preferred no CD-changer. For these are the negatives.
4-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY NEW STEREO!
First of all, there is nothing wrong with the volume button on this stereo, as another reviewer claimed. You just turn the dial left or right repeatedly, and the dial makes a clicking noise as the volume goes up or down. I agree with the reviewer who says this unit does it all at a reasonable price. Yes, there are some obvious missing features--such as the needle bar not having an automatic return. But overall, I'm very happy with this unit. The sound is good, I love the separate speaker system, and I'm having a so much fun playing all my old records! If you're on a budget, don't go out and buy all your old favorites on CD. Get this unit and take advantage of your record collection! I've even added to my record collection by shopping thrift stores and music exchange stores--albums are as cheap as a dollar each! I highly recommend this stereo unit!

4-0 out of 5 stars I am so happy I bought this!
I wanted something that played everything (all records, tapes, cd's and radio) and now I have it.The ability to put my records on tape is a great plus. The sound is much better than the vintage-looking brands and it still doesn't take up too much space.Note - a prior reviewer said the volume knob doesn't work, but it does.To increase/decrease the volume you have to repeatedly turn the knob in the direction appropriate. This way it doesn't blast and you can make subtle adjustments in volume. My only criticisms are inadequate explanations of how it works (as the volume issue indicates) and difficulty seeing the details of the different functions with old eyesight like mine. ... Editorial Review

The versatile W790R dual cassette deck is ideal for both recording musicians and casual music fans seeking full-featured audiocassette performance. The deck is outfitted with such features one-touch recording, one-touch normal and high-speed dubbing, and bi-directional double-deck continuous playback. The latter function is ideal for parties and clubs, as the deck automatically starts playing a second cassette when the first one ends. Professionals will doubtless appreciate the bi-directional recording, which streamlines the recording process, along with the variable +/- 10 percent pitch control--a favorite of DJs looking to speed or slow the tempo.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible For The Price
We produce books-on-CD, but when we record live, we use a small, studio-quality tape recorder for convenience. We then ship the masters to a popular nationwide service for transference to CD.
2-0 out of 5 stars The tape transport is a piece of junk.
This is a nice sounding deck, but the tape transport is cheap and unreliable. I had mine for about a year, and the left well started eating tapes. I finally took it to a repair shop. When I got it back it worked for a week then it ate one of my favorite tapes. I would not recommend this deck.

Editorial Review

Reminiscent of the all-in-one units that people owned in the late '80s--before LPs started nearing extinction and well before MP3s first hit the scene--the GPX HMTU3234 keeps nostalgic music fans entertained for days on end. The 30-watt system, which includes a pair of full-range speakers with metal grilles, plays everything from modern CDs and CD-Rs in its three-disc front-loading CD player to old-school LPs on its classic two-speed belt-drive turntable. Listeners can also play their favorite cassettes from yesteryear, provided they haven't burned the tapes in an '80s-purging moment, or use the dual cassette deck to record songs from other sources. The CD player's most notable features include 20-track programming, CD intro, repeat and random play, and song skip/search, all of which make it easy to find specific tracks and play them in non-sequential order. In the meantime, all music fans will dig the solid sound quality, which fills up a room with crisp, rich audio. Additional features include a headphone jack for private listening and a full-function remote control. For reference, each speaker measures 7.1 by 13 by 8.7 inches (W x H x D).Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not bother
For the price I thought that it would not be perfect. That it would have some flaws. When I received it the first time it would not turn on. The tape deck worked but nothing else. When I returned and received the replacement, it did not work either. Same problmes as the first. The price is tempting but even if I or you got a good one, how long would last before it began to breakdown?

5-0 out of 5 stars All in 1 Place!
It's great having all the different sound sources in one place. The sound of the CD, radio, and tape are very good -- the turn-table sound leaves something to be desired since there is no controlling of the tone quality.Otherwise, I am very pleased with this unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good For Three Months...
I too was very impressed with this cassette deck from JVC.Mine cost $250(Can), and I needed the features that this deck had to offer. The sound was very impressive, and once you know what you were doing, the deck was simple to operate. There was even a Mic input (a feature which I thought had all but disappeared from cassette decks). The unit had a nice solid feel to it, and the instructions were easy to follow.Too make a long story short, the unit performed flawlessly for just over three months, then my problems started. (and just as soon as the warranty expired of course).

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate but I've bought better
I bought one a little while ago (2/06). It does the job but seems chintzy, compared to the Sony I had before. The right hand well is noisy which is a drag since the deck is right next to me as I listen/record. I do like that it has a pitch control (on deck 1 only) but wish it had a time counter rather than an index counter. It also has rotating heads which is just plain bad engineering. There is no need for that. I don't expect this unit to last long with rotating heads but there are so few dual well decks that record on both wells, this will have to do for now. It is also noisy as it reverses direction (heads rotating) and as it plays/records.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pioneer CT-W606DR
This cassette deck from Pioneer has very good sound quality when playing back professionally recorded tapes. The digital noise reduction circuit really cleans up the tape hiss and other sonic imperfections common to cassettes. Although, on some non-professional recordings or recordings that are severely detoriated it tends to add an edge to the hiss that it cannot fully remove. The unit that I used also had some reliability problems with the transport mecahanism. Pioneer was evidently unable to repair this altogether after a couple of trips to the repair shop. All in all, it is a very well performing product plagued by some annoying reliability concerns. It is the best sounding tape deck that I have used so far. Although, I am confident there are better ones out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pioneer Tape Decks are UNRELIABLE
It took TWO dead ones, including CTW60RS - upscale from this, to realize Pioneer can't make a reliable tape deck. I would never buy anything made by Pioneer that has moving parts again. YMMV, but you've been warned.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best cassette deck I've ever heard.
The sound quality on this cassette deck was far better than I expected. The digital noise reduction completely eliminates all the tape hiss without affecting the sound quality.Of all the tapes I've tried on it, all soundas good, if not better than they did on my old deck. There also is littledifference in the sound quality when playing in forward or reverse mode, orfrom well to well.I use it to transfer my cassette collection to mycomputer to record on a CD-R, and the results are fantastic. And you canuse it with a Pioneer remote control if you have a Pioneer receiver withthe SR feature.About the only complaint I have is that it is kind ofnoisy when you first start to play, try to reverse, or wind the tape.Thetape head goes up and down by a motor (I think) and makes a noise wheneverit goes up or down.Otherwise great sound quality above what you'd expectfrom a cassette deck. ... The Panasonic SC-AK330S mini system may come in a relatively compact package, but it'll blow the lid off any party thanks to its 360 watts of total output power and its thumping three-way bass reflex speakers. The futuristic-looking system, which hails from Panasonic's Nitrix series, features an aggressive, hot-rod-like silver housing that includes a five-disc CD changer with CD-R/RW and MP3 playback, a dual cassette deck, and an AM/FM tuner with 15 AM and 15 FM station presets. The collection of components and its moderate size make this a fine choice as a bedroom or office system; on the other hand, its robust power output is enough to fill up a much larger space, such as a large basement or moderate-sized ballroom. The CD player's most notable features include track programming, random play, and repeat play, along with standard song skip/search and play/pause functions. Users can navigate through the variety of functions and determine the current track information by glancing at the large, easy-to-read dot-matrix display. It's also simple to jump from disc to disc thanks to the CD changer's five direct access keys, which help you quickly find the album you're looking for without cycling through the CDs one at a time.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Alternative to a Double Deck
I have owned many cassette decks. When my old one died, I looked for a replacement that was not a double deck. The Denon DRM-555 has been a very good deck.I mostly use it as a player, but I have made some recordings on it.Some of these recodings were of live music (via a mic mixer), and they sound fine.It is a good cassette deck for the price.
1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Cassette Deck At All Costs!
Bought this unit 2 years ago and it's given me nothing but headaches! I'm on my second replacement from the dealer, and it too has problems. Both units make static, popping sounds mixed with the sound on any cassette being played-even blank tapes. I swapped cables and my entire stereo system-the noise continues. Don't like to be negative, but this Denon DRM-555 cassette deck is the worse piece of junk audio gear I have ever used! Both units are now out of warranty, and I could not get any support of any kind from Denon.I got taken! ARRGGHGHHHH!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Tired of the same-old look when it comes to stereo systems? Consider the HH Scott SJ510 freestanding music center, which integrates a CD player, cassette deck, and AM/FM tuner into a unique elevated tower. Measuring 10 inches wide by 31 inches high and boasting a pair of 30-inch-tall speakers, the system's unique housing (think high-tech sarcophagus) fits nicely on a table or a short bookshelf, or even on the floor of a spacious apartment. It's particularly appropriate for people who have a fair amount of vertical space but can't fit traditionally wide stereo components into their entertainment setups. Fortunately for listeners, a narrow footprint isn't the system's only advantage. The 7.5-watt speakers reproduce high and mid tones with crisp precision, while lows radiate from the 20-watt subwoofer, which sits cleverly beneath the main unit. Additional audio enhancements derive from the four preset equalizer modes, which offer custom settings depending on your taste, and the X-Bass control, which adds extra thump when needed.Read more

Editorial Review

Onkyo's TA-RW244 offers dual-well convenience alongside nice touches like auto tape-bias selection (normal, chrome, or metal) and a brushed-aluminum front panel. One transport records and plays, while the other just plays--but both offer full auto-reverse. And with continuous playback (deck A-B), you'll get over three hours of music using two 100-minute tapes--and you can copy both sides of a tape with the press of a button.Read more
