Suunto Advisor
2nd Suunto. 1st was a Vector bought in 2000 that I abused pretty good before having to get another (water seal was damaged and it took on water during a kayaking trip). Doubt I'll ever use the heart monitor in the mountains but it is excellent for training. Highly recommended.

Don't lose your receipt
I've had my Suunto Advizor for 16 months. I am now in Iraq and the bezel is broken-off, like the other reviewer. I dont have my receipt. You can go to the Suunto website, but one thing you won't find there is an address with a note that says:
Great watch with slight durability problems
I have owned this watch for about a year and a half, and it has been great.I liked the heart rate monitor for cross country running (although I didn't "use" it exactly - I tried it out and though it was cool, but didn't go so far as to incorporate it into training.)The altimeter is great - I like to use it as a reference for orienting myself on a map (if you're lost on a trail, find your altitude, match it up with that altitude on the trail, you have a rough idea of location).My only complaint is that after awhile the bazelle on the compass wears and breaks off.I have met other people who experienced the same problem.Suunto has a 1 year warranty, so be sure that yours breaks by then so that you can send it in to be replaced.Overall a great watch.My dad gave it to me as a present so I can't complain about the price (which is very steep). ... Could Be Better
I use the Pharos Pocket Bluetooth GPS with my Del AXIM 50V. My PDA can detect the blutooth activated GPS without any problem but it failed to connected if I chose to connect by the CF slot (another accessory). You have to manually set up the COM link, the auto COM detection mode is useless.
Pretty good for the cost
Liked the Pharos very much and I use it with my IPAQ 5550.My only base reference is the Magellen Hertz never get lost that I have used twice earlier which was very good.
Got me there when I needed to be there.
Right on accuracy.Ostia software has it's ups and downs but all the GPS units take some getting used to.The biggest issue is how to enter your destination. Ex.North Seneca St. or N. Seneca St. or Seneca St, N.Eventually you figure it out.No problem w/the blue tooth and my HP IPAQ 4705 works well with it but at times when restarting you may have to do a soft reboot.For approx. $300 you can't go wrong.Make sure you get the new Ostia Software version 7.The updates should be worth it.I especially like the auto re-route if you miss the right turn.It really does get you there within 3 meters. ... Do yourself a favor..
... and buy a GPS instead. I agree with previous reviewer (Dave57), I WOULD NEVER BUY A SUUNTO AGAIN. Worst than Dave, I simply got caught in heavy rain during a hike and my Vector was full of water, couldn't even tell the time. I send it to Suunto Finland for repair and they say that it leaked from the housing and "kindly" offered a repair for 140 Euros.

great watch
this watch is one of the coolest watches i have ever seen. i have read reviews and technical data about similer products like the casio pathfinder. the pathfinder primaraly has the same fetures as the vector. the difference is that the pathfinders altimeter can be off by 1400' or more in stable weather! the vectors altimeter never really gets off more then 200 feet. if you want one of the best watches avalable get the suunto vector

shocking
I had a Suunto for 10 months. The face scratched VERY easily which was disappointing. However the worst thing is after swimming in a pool that I could stand up in the watch FILLED with water and died. On returning to Suunto they refused to fix it under warrantee because swimming is not covered ! They say the forces created by swimming are to much for this watch and it was never designed for this purpose, despite the sales literature saying it is water proof to 100m. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER SUUNTO PRODUCT. Whatsmore the shop I bought it from say they have lots returned for the same reason and non of them were fixed under warranty either. It is also very difficult to use and you cannot hear the alarm at all. ... Read more

OK as a spare or as a casual compass.
I can recommend this as a second compass only. Or as a gee-whiz casual toy. It has a cheap one-piece plastic case that is hard to open, and the hinge is just folded-over plastic. This does not inspire confidence in either its accuracy or durability. Additionally, the hinge does not stay at the angle you need. It just flops around, requiring one more thing to manage when navigating. A loose hinge is a deal breaker for me.

Design flaw
The Humminbird Piranha series is great, but it has a design flaw.The suction-cup mount forces the transducer to point in a single direction.Not good for a canoe without a transom.It always points off to one side of the canoe!The solution is a clamp-on transducer mount made by Tite-Lok which allows articulation in any desired direction.The best price I've found is at jandhproducts.comHappy fishing! ... Easy to use, but not as good as most built-in DVD-based car models
I received this as a gift recently; it's the second Pharos GPS system I've had some contact with.
Very unhappy!
I just brought this product and openned box to find that handheld computer was not in the box.I think it is false advertisement because the picture shows everything and that is what I thought I had, everything!I am very disappointed with this purchase.I have made several orders over the last month and this was my first disappointment and hopefully, my last!
