Decent and average!
I bought this sub based on the reputation of the company; BIG MISTAKE! Yes, the sub gives decent movie bass but it is almost useless with music. The bass produced by this sub is one note, slow and, although it hits fairly hard, it just doesn't hit you in the gut like it should, it is also somewhat boomy and the crossover is very loose. Overall: I PAID TOO MUCH FOR THIS THING and I am stuck with it. Again: it is decent, but that is all!

this is a wonderful sub! I liked it so much I bought a second one. If you pay close attention to prices, you can get this sub for as low as $249.00 on line or in the store. Anything less than $300 is a good deal. At one time these sold for close to $500.

Soft, yet crisp reproduction of music...
My previous speakers were Cerwin Vega (some special series 12") and then two Sony tower speakers (two 6" speakers and one 1" tweeter in each speaker). The Cerwin Vegas' were bought in H.S. which was primarily aimed at pleasing rap -lived in the Suburbs/identity crisis- with heavy bass. In college I had to sell both the Vegas for tuition and bought the Sony's from a friend. The tower speakers brought a greater balance between lower and higher frequencies. In general, I found that as time went on, so did my maturity in finding better music and better speakers. With my last quarter in progress I have bought myself these Polks' for my graduation present. To say the least, they sound perfect.
Top Rate
These speakers are top rate in sound quality! I use them for classical music and I find the mid to high frequencies to be excellent. As with all speakers this size, however, a subwoofer is necessary if you want the full range of bass to really rumble. Excellent mid-range speakers
The Polk RTi4 speakers are a great set of bookshelfs at a decent price.These are very good speakers for a good quality, mid-range surround sound system.The high's are great, the mid's are great, and the lows are pretty decent.The low range is pretty bad, but since most people add a subwoofer to their audio systems any more, it doesn't matter much.They sound great and have lots of power.These speakers can handle alot.Also, they look great.With or without the cover on, they look excellent.Everything sounds good on these speakers.Any kind of music, movies, or games, these speakers rock hard.I have these hooked up to my Pioneer VSX-812D.I plan on buying a pair of RTi6's and moving the RTi4's to the surrounds.I'd then like to round it off with a CSi5 and PW404.This is the first time I've tried Polk speakers, and I'm VERY pleased with the quality of the RTi4's.. especially for the price. ... Nice Speaker, Good Value
I bought this speaker to help out my surround sound ystem.Every where else online, center speakers of similar ratings sold for twice as much. Needless to say I was happy to find this one. Although a little bigger than I would like, I'm very happy with the sound, design, and over all appearance. My system won't drive it to the limit, so I don't know how well it handles alot of watts, that would be the only reason I don't give it 5 stars.

This is an excellent subwoofer from polk,with very good bass.This unit is small and compact,with an 8 inch bass driver.
This subwoofer is fantastic.Polk has always designed their speakers to be as musical and true to the actual performace,wheather it be classical,jazz,rock,pop,or a dvd movie..The bass is full and natural,with tremendous bass slam.When there is no bass you wont hear any...But when bass is present,watch out!!!There are many subs that produce one note bass,and sound quite muddy...Not the polk...You just hear the music or movie as it was intended to be heard...The subwoofer is compact,and doesnt take up alot of space...I find the polk perfect for tight spaces,and fits perfectly,in my nyc apartment.I hope my review was helpful for you..I thank you Stewart L. ... DESTROYED MY iPOD!!!
when this item arrived, I was very excited to hook it up and use it with my iPod mini. But when I hooked it up, I noticed that my click wheel was completely non-respondent. I sent my iPod back to apple thinking that it was the fault of the iPod, not the speakers. Well about an hour ago, my brand new iPod came in the mail. I hooked it up to the speakers and the same thing happened!!! DO NOT BUY THESE SPEAKERS!!! even though i was covered by apple, i still had to pay thirty bucks just to get it there. CTA digital better be paying for my iPod or I will be forced to take legal actions.

(Despite some of the negative reviews of this item, it continues to perform well with my regular-sized iPod.In fact, it has more volume, depth, and presence than three other portable speakers--each costing 50 to 75% more--to which I've compared it.The only downside is that the item is no longer sold postage-free from Amazon, diminishing its "bargain" appeal somewhat.)

I don't know what the last review was about!
Polk Audio is one of the leading speaker manufacturers in the world.They have been for decades.The only way the speakers could possibly sound muddy is if the system you hooked up to is inferior, or the speakers are not hooked up properly to your receiver or the components are not connected properly.There are many receivers these days that have secondary hookups for the audio components that do not give the true sound intended.You just need to make sure you are hooking up to all the main inputs.I have these speakers hooked up in my Master Suite bedroom where the wiring is coming from my basement theater.They sound Awesome installed in my ceiling rather than the wall.Hope this helps!

Lacks Sound Quality

Very Happy
I picked up these speakers for $40 (CDN) at Future Shop. I am really impressed, they sound AWESOME, I am very happy with the bass, for the money I paid, its tough to beat this system.

Decent quality, decent price
These speakers have given sound quality plenty good enough for my uses (mostly computer gaming and music). Though they're not the best speakers on Earth, they're very nice for those who want decent surround-sound without having to pay an arm and a leg.

Not good as Expected from the previous ratings

Polk RTi6 or JBL L830?
Well for your money I would get the polk. Today I went to a high end audio shop and tested the above mentioned. I got to tell you for a two way they had great mid range real nice and life like. The high end was vary natural sounding and the bass was there but not everywhere and vary responsive and crisp (just the way I like I). Low treble, high treble, low bass, high bass they still sounded good (thou with all treble taking out they got a bit muddy, witch would be good for TV actually). High and low volumes still give the same sound, I did notice a lot of the bass left around listening volume, but a little bump on the bass brought it right back up. The JBL sounded exactly the same, only that the vocals and higher mids where more pronounced and "I-sword-I-was-there-ness". They didn't get mudy with all the treble taking out and incredibly crisp with the treble up (they sounded better in other words). This was all done through a yamaha RX-397 or 497 (could not remeber witch one) The polk would make decent front speakers for a good sized TV but I think they would be a bit much for anything under 27 inch or so...

The jbl E90 is a very good sounding speaker system.At 400 bucks for the pair,this is very good deal.The speakers are a little bright and are best used with neutral sounding seperate amplifers or a high current receiver rated for more than 100 watts at 4 ohms...If the amplifier has a 2 ohm ,high current rating,thats good too.Most amps clip or limit without 4 drive,and contrary to popular belief,A low powered or current limited amp can damage your speakers more easily than a amp. that is loafing along.You will need a good subwoofer with these speakers..I highly recommend these speakers. !Enjoy!.I thank you Stewart L.

Sound great to me
Amazon recently dropped their price for these speakers (to about half of list), and offers free shipping, too.For items that weigh 50 lbs. apiece, that's a really good deal.I've had these for two weeks, and they sound great.I mainly use them as part of my 5.1 surround sound setup, but I tested them with music, too.I checked out the E60 and E80 models at a local store, and liked them.The E90 is better!

Note, Speakers sold in PAIR, not single.
I bought 5 of these, thinking that they came "SINGLE (WHITE)" as advertised, however they came with 2 in a box. . . I didn't return any, just put more speakers in my house. VERY easy to install in existing walls. Just cut an opening in the drywall, with the template provided in the box, fish the wire, and clip the speakers in. Very easy, very nice looking.

for the price: 5 stars
Simply put, for in wall speakers in this price range look no further.I powered them with my Harman Kardon 3480 stereo receiver and was floored how great they sounded for only spending $80 for the pair (not sure why they are selling for so much lower than the list price).I had been looking at a pair of BOSE speakers for around $200 (pair) and have to say the JBL sound better and will mount flush with my wall!

I have always run all of my media through my pc and my former speaker set (a Midiland 5.1 system) was thoroughly aged and falling apart I decided it was time to upgrade.I wanted something that had incredible sound with both music and dvd's.I shopped around and came to the conclusion I would aim for the form factor speakers.When considering this bose system, this MUST be taken into account. Great Speaker System with 110+Watts/channel Receivers!
This is a great system -- easy to set-up from the box -- but make sure you've enough power to feed to the speakers. If you've newer receivers with automatic accoustic calibration (i've this feature on my receiver), set-up is so easy to re-create theater sound in your living-room!
