5-0 out of 5 stars A "Sound" investment
Great card. Have used it in 3 machines now and not a single problem with installation or usage.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent audio card - great sound and smooth setup.
Though being 5.1. surround, the onboard sound card in my new Dell XPS 400, a.k.a. Dimension 9150, was much too low quality to serve my Altec Lansing GT 5051 5.1.loudspeakers right:The sound was flat, with little or no bass, ambience or sense of depth (Although very happy with my Dells in general, you would think that a dedicated gaming system such as the XPS would have an audio card already in it!)
1-0 out of 5 stars This product is not what is advertised on the box.
This product is not what is advertised on the box. Apparently, in the past, this was a retail version product. Now, the software is unavailable, the user guide is not included, and they offer no support for this product. A phone call to the company left me even more confused when they said the ones being sold now are OEM versions of the card that were packaged in a new retail version box. Don't expect any help in installing the card, using the features, or getting any of the cool software advertised on the box, it's not going to happen. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pro HIFI-Link
Works great! Couldn't be any easier. Even the cables needed are supplied. Just plug and play with XP.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic product to connect your computer to your stereo
This is an excelllent device for connecting your PC/laptop to your stereo especially if you have a Toslink optical or digital coaxial input to your audio/video receiver or if you have an outboard digital to analog converter(DAC). The reason for this is that the music is now coming directly off your hard drive and by-passing the crappy sound cards found on most computers and you are now using a superior DAC on your A/V receiver or external DAC. If you have both digital and Toslink optical connections, digital is the better of the two. This has nothing to do with the product, digital coaxial connections are always better than optical - although, it is not a dramatic difference. Set-up could not be easier - even a caveman could do it. I plugged the USB cable into my laptop and the other end into Pro Hi-Fi Link and XP instantly recognized and installed it.I connected the digital cable to the unit and to the digital input on my stereo and - that's it!Seconds later absolutely excellent quality music was coming out of my stereo. If you have a quality stereo and/or are a critical listener, I would definitely recommend ripping your CD's at 320 kbs because with this set-up you will hear the difference compared to standard 128 kbs rips.In fact with external drives becoming so cheap, I plan on ripping all my CD's in full-file format. Excellent quality cables are supplied with the unit for all three types of connection.

3-0 out of 5 stars for digital recievers only
I purchased this product from a local retailer, and returned it.Using the included RCA jacks the sound was indistingishable from the line out of my sound card.Note: at first I was amazed by the sound quality, but we did a little double blind test and I could not tell the difference.Interesting how subjective sound can be.

It's amazing how much a new sound card can add to a multimedia PC, especially if the computer is already tricked out with a nice video card and some thumping speakers. 1-0 out of 5 stars WORST!DON'T BUY
This was a complete waste of money. It's now a Legacy card.Don't buy, because they are trying to get rid of a stockpile. There are no good drivers for them.(it wont work in XP now either!)

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but trouble.
This card stinks. No words can describe how much fustration the lack of good drivers...[It'll take] aloot of pain to buy the half functional sound card.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outrageously Great Sound Card.

3-0 out of 5 stars ABOVE AVERAGE CARD
My girlfriend bought me this card for my bithday, because of my problems with my old yamaha card. Althought this card plays mp3 and wav formats very well, the game audio is just decent. I would have prefered the LIVE! card. But this will do. No real complaints here. Very Very good for its lowprice!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sound at a great price!
This sound card Is really awesome. It comes with Accelerates Microsoft DirectSound3D, EAX, and A3D at a great price. With Creatives new EAX sound it makes any game more injoyable. With A3D you can hear the difference whenplaying games or music in stero sound. Plus you can hook up 4 speakers toit which is great for those who like to play games. It is also has greatprice for all you get.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good options for a low price
EAX, A3d, it supports both. I've tried it on multiple games and it runs great. It might not be be a sounblaster live x-gamer, but for the price it rules. The a3d sounds good and does add intensity. The installation waseasy but the documentation is a little weak.I would recomend it to anyonewho wants a pretty good board but doesn't want to dish out 100+ dollars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An effective basic soundcard
I keep a lot of computer equipment at home, due to the fact that I am an A+ technician working to complete my MCSE (microsoft certified systems engineer) credentials.I bought a pre-owned computer from ebay last month in order to practice setting up computer networks at home. This particular computer is a business-class desktop, designed more for the office environment rather than the typical entertainment PC that we would normally have at home.I decided to add DVD capability to this system, in order to enjoy a movie at my work desk whenever the mood strikes me to take a break from work (which happens quite frequently).I added a Sony DVD player, this particular Soundblaster soundcard, and a pair of Cambridge Soundworks speakers.Within thirty minutes, I was watching The Lord of Rings.2-0 out of 5 stars Drivers are unreliable
I installed this card in a new home built computer. When I got Windows XP installed the sound came on and sounded fine with the generic drivers provided by Windows XP.I then proceeded to install the drivers that came with the sound card. After installing the Creative drivers I discovered the sound on some of my games was distorted.I rolled back the drivers to the generic XP drivers and the sounds returned to normal. The only problem is I have no access to the advanced features in the audio control panel.I can adjust volume control but I have no way to adjust the treble or bass or other effects. If I reinstall the Creative drivers those functions return but then so does the distortion.

3-0 out of 5 stars Be careful what is written on the box
I purchased the Creative Sound Blaster 16 PCI card to replace my built in sound engine. The installation was simple, typical of a pci card. The inclosed directions to install the card were ample to do the job. They sell these items at Walmart so I took a look at the box before coming back to Amazon and buying at a better price. It does say on the box this card is Windows XP compatible. It will work but the drivers on the installation disk are not Microsoft "signed" which means you must force the driver installation.Again, not a big thing, Windows XP took the drivers and the card worked fine.Typical of using any software or hardware in Windows XP, it is a good idea to go online immediately for an XP compatable/updated driver. That I did, found one from Creative's website; downloaded and installed it.Here is where you must be very careful. My very latest version of Windows XP/SP1 loaded this latest driver and then the sound system promptly shutdown. No sound at all came from the speakers.I rebooted a couple of times thinking the reset would correct the problem. It didn't nor did XP indicate a problem with the hardware or driver in the system/hardware file.Fortunately XP allowed me to go back to the earlier driver and the sound was back on.So if you have Windows XP and this card, be sure not to destroy the installation cd because Creative's new driver does not work on XP, at least not on mine.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great, but be advised
Has crystal quality sound, adds umph to your speakers, and has lots of ports for whatever you need. But be warned this product is not designed for XPs. It says right when installing the software, that there are compatibility issues with XP. The device for me would keep on going out and I would have to keep on switching between it and my onboard. Finally got rid of it. Can't necessarily use something not configured for your system. But utimately when it did work, it was an icredible piece of hardware. Top of the line quality

4-0 out of 5 stars This Card is GREAT!
I have been running this card for a year now and I have had no problems. It runs on Windows 98 both editions, ME and XP (i'm using the home edition). If you update to XP you will need to download updated drivers. When I downloaded the newest drivers I had no problems. The one thing I do hate is the software it is all bundled under one package, but when you need to update you have to do so in parts. There is no one time downloadable update that fixes every issue with XP. Which really hurts the value of this card. Creative labs hasaverage tech support it could be better. If I were building a newer machine I would go with a newer card like the Audigy 2. XP users make sure the card you buy is compatible with your operating system. I don't blame Creative for lack of support on this card I blame Microsoft. They should do a better job in supporting popular hardware. I as many before me and many after me have had or will have issues with updating to newer versions of Windows. 4 stars for nothing is perfect.

1-0 out of 5 stars driver problem for XP and media player 9, slow the CPU
I have many problems with the driver for my XP. I have tried all the new drivers from the Creative Lab, it finally let it deliver the sound to the 5.1 chanel.Have to turn off the digital mode to heard the sound and only analog mode allowed. Sound quality is kind of poor proabaly due to the driver. Itsignificantly slowed down the performance of my computer, and wont work with the new MS media player 9. After uninstall this product, it crash my system, my computer keeping rebooting. it turn out that I have to reformat C: to restore my system. Also found mnay users have the same problems on the web. Keep away from this card if you are using XP. (my spec:Sony VAIO RX650, P4-1.6A 512DDR).I also found this card wont work with VIA chipset that most of AMD computers. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Alright Card
This is a nice sound card. I installed it with my Windows ME when i first got it b4 the audigy came out. It was the nicest sound card you can get. After awhile i got XP, then it went downhill. The drives are XP incompatible and the newer drivers sometimes dont install over the XP native drivers. Tried contacting Creative, but that didnt help, took forever for a responce

3-0 out of 5 stars nice card.

This card conflicts with everything.Once I called Creative (non-toll free #) it just made things worse, it took me all afternoon to fix what creative told me to do.Then they said try updating all my drivers for all my other hardware. If it doesn't work off the bat get rid of it or you headache will only get worse. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Ensoniq and Microsoft Sidewinder 3d Pro issues
Great audio card - however I have the misfortune to find out that this card does not work correctly with the non-usb Sidewinder 3D Pro....Installing the DirectX 8.1b, Lastest Sound Card Drivers, and Sidewinder 3.02 drivers doesn't help. The controller is listed as not-connected.You can use it in analog mode, but you loose much functionality.5-0 out of 5 stars Works great in Linux!
This card came with my Dell, but I'm going to buy another one for another computer with a proprietary unsupported card. This card works great in all situations, from listening to music to playing games. This big advantage (for me) is that it works great in Linux, which is why I'm buying another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars The choice
I'll recomend this card if you just want a 16 bit sound card. what you'll miss is the 1024 midi voices that a SBlive has... but if your goal is not to play midi music then buy this. You'll get a 32 voices polyphony soundcard with multitilmbral capabilities! as the original Ensoniq, this should be the choice of anyone that wants to make music with trackers. You'll be able to mix 32 digital channels without losing quality as in other soundtracks. To give you an example, how many times did windows told you that another app is using your sound card? Well, with Ensoniq you can hear other windows sounds while listening to an MP3. Well, that is posible with the original Ensoniq. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating
Alright...when I can actually get this darn thing to work right it is an EXCELLENT sound card..But over the past few years I've had this thing I have had to reinstall the drives numerous times....I mean...much more than I should have to...This program will only function right for me for about a few months before I have to reinstall it again. I have updated my drivers and I'm sure nothing is wrong with my hard drive, still get the same problem...suddenly something stops working right, this time it was the fact that I can only choose 4.1 speakers..not even headphones or anything else...I dont even have 4.1 speakers....I have 6.1...Last time I couldn't change the EAX settings from default, so everything sounded horrible, the time before that I couldn't even open the EAX console period, mostly it's just problems with their EAX software. Which if you dont use everything sounds much worse by the way. If you can look past that problem though....great sound card...creative just needs to learn how to program decent software, cause the drivers for this sound card are absolutely horrid.

1-0 out of 5 stars Software was written by gibbon monkeys.
I have had this card for 2 years now and it has worked fine for me as long as I didn't play with Creative's drivers or software.
1-0 out of 5 stars No input
I had this card installed in my Dell when I ordered it and I will say it does sound great BUT there is one proplem with it that I need and that is the input will not work.I called Creative Labs, Dell and got no where. Now maybe not many people need to use the input jack but it is a must for me.My old computer had a simple card but it did work.So if you want just great sound, this card is good but if you need to record albums, etc. then forget it, this card won't do it, or at least mine won't. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I Am So Disgusted
This is a tragedy. I've been a staunch supporter of Live! cards since they came out but their quality and support went down the drain. The Audigy 2 Platinum is not plug & play compliant. The end user shouldn't have to install the card and adjust the BIOS and hardware configuration to get the card to work. All this card gives is loud pops, skipping and computer lockups. A reinstallation of the operating system didn't help. There aren't any IRQ conflicts either! Tech support was useless, they don't have clue. The sound of the card is great but that means nothing if there is popping and skipping in the music.2-0 out of 5 stars Made by Satan!
Well ok, after building my own "Dream System 4" I decided to go all out, even on the soundcard. Going by the specs with this card it was second to none. Going by the other customer reviews I read, it made me think twice about getting it judging by a lot of the problems that were addressed. But, I decided that "none of those will happen to me, it will work fine" WRONG. First off for a brief hardware setup. I installed it on a Athlon XP 2800 powered system with dual 80MB 7200 ATA 133 drives, 1 Gig RAM and an Nvidia GeForce4 Ti4800 8X AGP Video with the Logitech X-680 surround speakers.5-0 out of 5 stars WIRELESS

I'm no novice but I couldn't even install the hardware, never mind the drivers. The CD-in jack didn't fit on the J4 or J5 input on my (Intel 815e) chipset; and the card didn't seat properly in the PCI slot.4-0 out of 5 stars It works very well.
The two reviews, as of this date, say that the card does not work on their computer or that they have major problems with it. I have a motherboard with onboard sound, and I will bet they do also. I also have Windows XP. Disable or remove the onboard sound, reboot the computer, then install the drivers for the sound card. It will work just fine. You can find this information on the I/O Magic webpage under their forums. Good sources for information if you are having problems. I did have a problem with WinRip, an included software program. Freezes every time. I dumped it. Rest of the free software works o.k. If all the software worked, I would have rated this card a 5.
