3-0 out of 5 stars Good but better/cheaper versions to be had
Very useful but does not have S.A.M.E technology that newer versions have. Difficult to find the right channel for your area unless an alert is being broadcast. The battery door on mine broke due to a fairly small plastic tab snapping off. User interface is not intuitive (setting channels and time is not easy without the user's manual).

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy little device... but don't rely on good reception.
In the year since I received the Oregon Scientific weather radio, its price has dropped dramatically, making it an even more attractive addition to an outdoorsperson's backpack or vehicle. As an avid hiker and camper, I bring along this weatherproof radio on weekend trips to receive weather information and alerts. While the reception has proven limited for some areas I visit, such as state parks not located in close proximity to a NOAA transmitting station, and national parks such as Big Bend -- too remote for me to have even bothered to bring the radio along, the reception within or near cities where most users will in practice find themselves using it, is perfect. The radio is also handy to have around the home, particularly if you don't have any other battery-operated weather alert radio at your disposal. When the power goes out and the weather starts turning nasty, it's extremely handy to turn the radio on Standby so it can alert you to weather watches and warnings in your area.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Midland Products Dubious
I own this weather radio, and it has great features...if only it worked properly! Mine has a tendency to come on anytime it feels like it, not just when there's an alert, which can be quite shocking in the middle of the night. I suspect a problem in the electronics. I recenty purchased another model made by Midland, and the buttons on it don't work right, so I'm going to have to return it to the store. I won't be buying another piece of electronics from Midland. If you're looking for a trouble-free weather radio, steer clear!

5-0 out of 5 stars Constant weather info for the weather junkie
If you are worried about the weather, this is the perfect item for you! You can get up-to-date weather reports 24 hours a day after choosing which source you want. You enter the code for your area on the back, and you're all set! (The instructions are clear and easy.) Best of all, if you travel you can take it with you and reset it for the new place. You have a choice of being alerted in a weather emergency by a red flashing light or by a loud-enough siren. The announcer's voice is monotonic because of the recording, but if you just want the facts, you won't care. It also gives conditions of weather in the ocean for boaters and fishermen. It works even in a power failure because of its backup battery. You won't have to wait until after the daily news report to find out the weather at any time! This is great! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great weather radio with bonus features
We needed a weather radio because we live in tornado country. When it gets stormy, the 9 volt battery backup on this NOAA weather radio keeps the weather report coming in. We live near a city and have no trouble receiving the NOAA broadcast. This unit costs as much as any of the standard weather radios I was looking at, but it also has radio, alarm and a very large digital clock display. The specs say the display is 1" but I think it's closer to 2". It's not a designer piece, it's purely functional, but that's what we bought it for. A cool feature is that you can set your alarm clock to wake you to the weather report. If you're traveling, that's pretty handy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend !
I like the :3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay.
It does what it says. The instruction booklet comes right out and says the weather radio stations are weak and may not come in.That was the case, but I managed to route the antenna in a way that it picks up the weather channel fairly clear, although there is a lot of background static which changes in intensity depending on whether or not someone is moving around in the room.My girlfriend really appreciates the separate Hour/Minute buttons. She stuck with her old clock radio for well over a decade because most of them have forward and reverse buttons to set the time which she absolutely hates. The ALARM RESET button is a nice feature, every other clock radio requires flipping a switch to OFF and back to ALARM again.I've worn out several clock radios this way, so a button is a welcome change. It's recessed in order to prevent pushing it accidentally when you're half-asleep.It also has a fairly nice, modern appearance and matches most other electronics (i.e. my VTech 2.4GHz phone) as well as the black furniture.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
This is a nice unit that does what it says it does-- alert the user to warnings and watches for a large number of situations. We've used it during the busy spring weather season and it has never failed to warn us of impending events (severe thunderstorms, flash floods, tornadoes, even a child abduction), always a few minutes before our local television stations. Setup seemed confusing at first but two minutes with the manual made it quite clear and easy. The only glitch was that I had to look up our county code on the Internet-- the 800 number given was never available. With the SAME technology we keyed in on our county alone, and disabled activation for watches that we don't care about-- a really nice feature. It also includes a standard weather radio for forecasts whenever we like, plus an FM radio (which we don't use) and a clock. I'm very satisfied with the unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio-New ones being sold have the flaw fixed!
The original ones of these being marketed had a flaw in the system and did not always alert as they were supposed to! However, the newer ones have had that fixed. We bought one and contacted the manufacturer to be sure and they said that the ones available on the shelves now have been updated and work fine! 5-0 out of 5 stars A Nifty Excellent Weather Radio

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice radio with alot of options.
I take this radio fishing and the temperature reading is really nice. Great reception and loud crisp audio. I use NIMH rechargeable batteries with this radio and they work great.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the sleeper radio of the FRS world.
My first experience with this radio was a used one I bought in an auction. There were no instructions and I had to figure out all the features. It wasn't that difficult, but contrary to the description by Amazon, this radio does NOT have the scramble feature.I liked this radio so much I bought a new one.Armed with the instructions, I found features I didn't know existed. The GE 35840 is one of a handful radios that have programmable memory. You can set up to 10 different channel/CTCSS tone combinations.Another feature not found in many FRS radios is the memory scan. Now this may not seem important but it does provide a bit of security to your conversations.I programmed both my GE 35840 radios to scan 4 different channel and CTCSS tone combinations. When I transmit on one, a random selection from the 4 memories I have programed is selected. While scanning the other radio picks-up the transmission in about 1/2 second. What this does is make it difficult for anyone trying to listen in on your conversation to keep track of you.You are talking on 4 different channel/CTCSS combinations at random. They may hear bits and pieces of your conversation, but that's all. Also, when scanning all channels the GE 35840 will sync to the CTCSS tone when it senses a signal. This happens in about 1/2 second.Another nice feature is the temperature display.Along with the temperature, this radio will also receive NOAA weather transmissions.Battery usage is very good and this radio takes 3 AA batteries for a long battery life. The speaker/mic external connections works great with ICOM/Radio Shack speaker mics. You will not have to buy a high-prices model that only the manufactorer sells.Range and sound quality is very good.I have about 7 different brands of FRS radios and this one is my favorite. If you can pickup a couple, do so!5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Item

1-0 out of 5 stars JENSEN has gone down the tubes
I bought this because of the Jensen name. Don't waste your money. It's just OK as an AM/FM. BUT I purchased it because of the TV audio capabilities. It's worthless for TV reception. I have other TV radios that have worked fine in our location. This unit gets NO TV stations at all. Jensen is selling a piece of Chinese Junk. The tuner knob feels like it will not hold up for long. I'm VERY unhappy with this radio.

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 Years and Still Going
When I bought this little Jensen MR-400, I didn't think about the purchase all that much. It was right before the massive midwest blackout in the summer of '03. During the blackout, it became my constant companion. It was the only way to get a little news about what was happening and the progress (if any) to ending it. And it worked well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Buy!!
An outstanding CB radio for my Jeep. For under $40, there is no reason to purchase a higher priced model for your portable needs.I would suggest a magnetic roof top mount antenna for increased reception. However, the factory antenna is adequate for 3 to 5 mile reception on level terrain. This model accepts ear buds which greatly extends battery life because you are able to monitor at much lower volume.A must for travelers.
