1-0 out of 5 stars Very Bad Range!!
I recently purchased this set of radios. I applied for the FCC GMRS license paid [the money] and was excited about using the GMRS channels with 5 mile range. After receiving my call sign I tested them out on both power settings on the gmrs channels and the most range I ever got was 1200ft!!!! These radios are no better than a [toy] walkie talkie... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great. GReat
This is a wonderful little radio. Has great reception. And great all the way around. I have had it for one year and I just changed the batteries. I listened to it every morning and when it storms I can pick up the TV channels. It is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fits a specific need well
I looked all over for a small radio to use in the bathroom that would: (A) Run on batteries so no unsightly power cord(B) Have AM/FM and TV Bands(C) Weather Band a plus(D) NOT be Silver or Black as that would stick out in an off-white bathroom BINGO! Found this Sony on Amazon and it not only provides A to D above but has some other nice features as well. It is very small and in a darker cream color which blends in well in my enviroment. This radio gets all the reception I will ever need even pulling in weaker stations without ever extending the antenna! Sound is very good from the large speaker for this size radio. The wake-up timer works well. I use the sleep function to automatically turn the radio off after I leave for work. Allthough purchased for use in the bathroom the Sony does find its' way into other rooms from time to time as the small size makes it very portable (has a key lock feature for use when transporting). One negative: The display normally shows the time and swithces to the tuned frequency/channel when powered on. The only way to see the time again is to turn the unit off. This is a nice unit with a sensitive tuner that seems to operate for a very long time on only three AA batteries. Thanks to Sony and to Amazon for satisifying my need.

5-0 out of 5 stars AM/FM/TV/WEATHER ALL WORKS GREAT-SONY GETS A+
Since I live near mountains and 80 miles from a TV station, I read all of the Amazon reviews on this radio before purchasing two of these radios. The most important to me was a radio that would pick up AM/FM/TV/WEATHER. The older radios that I owned (not Sonys), would only pick up FM and not well at all. This beutiful little radio picks all AM stations that I want (no other radio I owned before would pick up AM stations). And, it picks up TV, FM and WEATHER! Since I love talk shows on the AM and also like to hear a quick weather report, listen to TV, I ordered 2 of these from Amazon. Wow! All of the features work well here, AM/FM/TV/WEATHER! I love that this is also a clock radio and even has a timer. I am using re-chargable batteries so I can carry this radio around with me and take it anywhere. It even fits into my carry-on for travel. This is the best radio that I have ever owned. It reminds me so much of my older (retro) Sony Dream Machine Clock Radio. Yet this one is better because it runs on batteries for travel! I already owned the Sony 4.5 adapter, but prefer to use this radio with re-chargable batteries (I keep a several extras plugged in and ready to pop in when needed). I give this radio an A+! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not Reliable
After about two years this weather radio has finally broken. All I get is static on everything.I called Oregon Scientific and they said there is only a one year warranty. While it worked, it was good but did not receive every warning or watch.Just bought the WR103 and hopefully that works better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well - can sit on desk or mount on wall
This radio works fine.Oregon Scientific recalled these radios shortly after I bought mine because of some sort of product defect. This updated replacement radio has worked just well side by side with my portable weather radio. The sound is good.I like the visual message display.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Program
This product has the most difficult programming instructions I have ever seen.Even changing the clock time (which you have to do 2X per year) proves to be a major challenge requiring the manual. The manual also must have been translated from Chinese as it is also difficult to understand...even for someone like myself with a technical degree!I tossed the product out after 6 months. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars PLEASANTLY PLEASED
This radio is a wonderful little product.I got it because the one we had was old and wareing out.Sometimes it has trouble getting one channel, and the weather band doesn't come in much, but other than that, it is perfect.I am trying to convince my husband to get one for his study.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs
Bought this radio regardless of some of the negative reviews. Works great for me. All the bands (TV, weather, AM/FM) come in nice a crisp (I live in Connecticut. Others may have had problems with TV and weather reception due to their geographic location. Just my speculation. Well worth the $.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This is one the best shortwave radios you can get. I don't mind some of ergonomic issues since the radio works well once you get used to it. There are only 3 things I can find that could be better. The memory presets take time to recall. You can't just punch in a preset number and get a station like on the Sony 7600. The tuning knob only works in increments of 1 which makes it slower to tune than an analog radio. The 3rd thing that could be better is the speaker. The sound is poor at best. I listen most of the time with headphones and the sound is better that way. This radio is excellent on shortwave reception. I have many radios and only the Sony 7600 comes close at a more expensive price.

5-0 out of 5 stars KA-1103 is a winner!
After reading all the reviews I took plunge and bought the KA-1103!Wow!This little radio is a fantastic radio!Hard to use?Don't believe it - this radio is just a little different, it functions perfectly. The reception is well above average and appears to be designed with performance in mind. The comments about the analog display are confusing because I rather like the visual graphic reinforcement it provides - where's the issue?
5-0 out of 5 stars Radio deserves all the praise
Will try not to repeat what others have written - but I did end up buying the cheaper Chinese version, the Degen DE1103, for approx. 1/2 the price from ebay. Included the 110V plug-in power supply, really great ear-bud headset, a cute cloth bag/cover for the radio, rechargeable batteries, wire antenna. You do have to read the manual to really know how to use it (English manual came on a little CD with the radio). For example, the batteries do not charge unless u set them on a charge time (by pressing "vol" and a number - when the radio is plugged in but powered off).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little radio
I bought this radio because we live in an area with poor FM reception. It picks up the stations I wanted and then some. Sound is good for its size. The rechargable batteries are a plus. I am very satisfied with it. I am going to have to buy another as my son has found how good the reception is and has claimed it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A superior, but flawed, product
After enjoying the superb reception on the Kaito 1103 but not enjoying the counter-intuitive control buttons, I decided to invest in the Kaito 1101 because of the excellent reviews. Here is my comparison:
5-0 out of 5 stars Kaito KA1101
I am impressed with the Kaito KA1101 radio, it comes packed with value and performance. The instructions are easy to follow and the performance compares favorably with my Grundig Yachtboy 400. The built in charging function is a real plus. This little gem is a real bargin. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Feel in love with this little radio within 5 minutes of using it
The Kaito KA1102 (Degen DE1102 in Asia) is absolutely fantastic! It certainly lives up to all the positive things reviewers have said about it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent little radio
Best radio in the world you can get at this price. Mine lasted only a year though. I think it has some software issues. I can't get it to work with batteries anymore. I like it so much I ordered another. This is something I normally wouldn't do when a product fails but these are so good I'm hoping they have been improved.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was astonished!
When this radio arrived in the mail my heart sank.I thought it couldn't possibly satisfy my desires for good quality radio reception. It was too too small.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good deal for the money spent
I bought a KA007 and a Grundig FR200. I oughta return the FR200.
3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate, but not excellent
I received my Kaito KA007 radio this week. Generally it is a good radio for the purpose. The plastic case and dynamo crank do not seem to be very sturdy, but is probably sufficient if not abused. I chose it over the Grundig FR200 because it also covered weather and TV bands. After a few days of use, these are my conclusions. The TV band reception is reasonably good, and I was generally surprised at how much SW I could pick up with just the little telescopic antenna. The dynamo charging system seems to work well. I haven't tried charging the batteries with solar power yet. FM and AM reception seem pretty good. Other than the lack of sturdiness, I am disappointed with the weather radio reception and the size of the tuning dial. The small tuning dial (about the size of a nickel) makes fine tuning difficult and tuning of the NOAA weather stations almost impossible.
4-0 out of 5 stars A very good idea
Somebody had a very good idea with this radio. It's not the best built thing in the world,in fact you may just want to get two just in case.

My Freeplay radio usually teams up with a satellite radio. The only static has been when the solar cell is hit by direct sunlight while the radio is already running on windup or electric power. Otherwise the sound is clear.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Radio for "Tuning Around" on Shortwave.
This is an "old fashioned" dial and pointer radio, lacking all of the features of a modern digital set... no preset stations, poor indication of the actual frequency that is tuned, no clock, no alarm. Somehow, it is still great fun to use!
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio
This radio is wonderful. The reception is great. I was able to get stations from Taiwan, China, Japan, Sweeden, Britain, Germany, many Spanish speaking countries and lots of morse code, too. If you want to hear worldwide broadcasts, this is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Thing In A Small Package
My WRX911 has seen over 9 months of regular use/abuse, and still remains a usual suspect in my roster of "grab and go" radios. The radio is only a dash larger than a pack of cigarettes and comes in either black or metallic blue. I've found the blue color to be quite the conversation generator when tuning the dial in public. It comes with a carry strap, pouch, earphones and AC wall adaptor. The radio sits horizontally, with a tilting stand mounted to the back for just the right angle to keep it stable while tuning the dial. Reception on FM, AM, and the 9 shortwave bands is very good for a radio this size. Overall quality is good, with solid construction, a decent feel on the switches, and the tuning dial moving smoothly through the frequencies. For its price, there are a few expected shortcomings. The tuning dial is analog instead of digital, and can make finding a particular station a sometimes hit-and-miss exercise. There is no dial lighting, and the power and tune LED's seem overly-bright in a darkened room. Dial accuracy can be somewhat subjective and varies from unit to unit, with some being off on certain bands and dead-on with others. The audio quality isn't as rich as some people demand from their radios, but even with a small speaker it is easy to hear what is coming through. The battery door hides 2 AA batteries, and removes completely. This can make it easy to lose if you're not careful. The FM on my radio is so sensitive, it easily overloads into a mishmash of stations unless the antenna is pulled back to the body. The antenna will not tilt forward when the radio is in an angled position, and will cause the radio to fall over when tilted back while the WRX911 is standing straight. The overall sensitivity of this radio is great for something so small, with plenty of AM stations coming in and most shortwave offerings not being a problem. A few feet of wire and alligator clip snapped onto the antenna allow the WRX911 to really haul in the fainter SW stations. There's no clock, memories, gain switches or the like, and that's alright. The WRX911 is designed to be a small, no-frills radio that brings in local and distant signals while on the go, and it has accomplished this very well. For the price, you may want to pick up two before anyone else discovers these little gems. ... Read more

I bought six of these to put in my family's emergency kits. They work great for that purpose, especially considering the price. I wanted them so that I would not have to worry about batteries in the event of an emergency. You just crank them and they work! The package says 1 minute of cranking will give you 20 minutes of radio time. I was able to get the radio to work with only a few cranks. I didn't time it to see how long the battery lasted, but it would have easily been enough to check the news in the event of an emergency. My seven year-old tested the flashlight for me and was able to get them to work with just a couple of cranks.
