5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Little Device
Scanning used to be a hideous ordeal for me--fire up the scanner software, wait for the scanner to warm up, position and re-position the item to be scanned on a huge flatbed scanner inconveniently out of reach of my desk. This tiny device has changed all that:It works quietly, instantaneously and seamlessly with my Windows XP system.I particularly love the tiny footprint and lack of a power cord.Serious paperless-office freaks should definitely consider this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small footprint, perfect for digital document archives
Let me clear up a couple of mistakes other people have written in their reviews:
1-0 out of 5 stars garbage!!!
terrible scans (the paper shifts causing crooked or wavy scans plus scan quality is poor), terrible OS - contantly crashes or even hangs up my pc, terrible tech support.my old Vx worked great for many years- even though it was just black and white and the tech support was almost useless - but it's was not compatible with XP so i had to get rid of it.do NOT buy the XP100 unless you really need more stress in your life. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't completely work with Acrobat
I got this to help me scan paper documents to save as pdfs to de-paper my office. Except for some difficulties clearing the rare paper jams, it seems to be fine mechanically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome scanner once you get the issues worked out
I agree that I did have some problems with paper jams in the ADF.But then I noticed that it seemed to mostly happen with smaller width paper (11" long, but less than 8.5" wide) and legal size documents when trying to duplex.Well, then I read the manual (duh!) and it clearly states that the scanner is not set up to duplex legal size documents or unusual sized paper. So I thought that was a problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful addition to my office
I haven't had any of the problems the other reviewer mentioned. The document feeder has not jammed on me yet and is incredibly quick compared to my old machine.Once you customize the settings, it's one touch operation. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but problems with this card reader
I would NOT recommend this item.I had problem after problem with it and, in the end, it was not useful at all. While the tech support email service was notably quick in responding, their fixes could not salvage this effectively useless product.
5-0 out of 5 stars Iris Card scanner
The scanner works great,it works well for processing a single card and multiple cards.easy to use and good quality business card scans.A great value for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works great!!
I'm a network administrator (among other things!!) and my boss decided to buy this scanner for my department.I do a LOT of scanning and I don't have any complaints about this scanner. We've had it for about a year without any problems. It's true it takes a while doing the first scan, because it has to "warm up the lamp", but after that it's very fast.It comes with some bundled software you can use to scan several parts of a large image and then put them together like a puzzle, but to be honest I rather use photoshop to do that job, and I get great results!!
1-0 out of 5 stars Plenty problems
I'm now on my third scanner of this type.
3-0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner .... But,
It is a great design,, very easy to use and takes up little desk space.BUT, scanning any photos with large black spaces (ie black backdrop) left a streaked look and the black was more of a grey.HP promptly sent me a replacement scanner. This one the steaks are gone, but the black areas are still grayish and blotchy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this product
The card reading ability of the device is worse than the rational customer might expect. The error rate I experienced was around 35%.I had scanned 30 cards, wasting time correcting data, and then the program crashed. In OSX.I hardly ever see a program crash. But here's the kicker: it didn't save the work at any point. In fact, there was no save funtion I could find easily, just export.I returned it right away, and ordered the CardScan Executive, which I run under Windows XP in Boot Camp. While it costs twice as much, its error rate is much more forgivable, at about 10%, with about 25% perfect scans/reads so far.Plus, the automatic saving and free online card data storage and synching are beyond my expectations. You get what you pay for. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Great hardware, horrible support
I have used PaperPort/Visioneer scanners for close to a decade, and loved them all.For some reason, though, their code gets worse and worse and their "support" simply does not exist. 5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SCANNER
I FIRST STARTED USING VISIONEER PRODUCTS IN 1996.THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF VISIONEER'S SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO PRODUCE LOW COST GOOD LOOKING SCANNERS THAT TAKE UP LITTLE ROOM AND ARE EASY TO USE.THIS MACHINE WORKS WONDERFULLY, AND IS CLEARLY COMPATIBLE WITH ADOBE AND WORD PERFECT.IF YOU ARE USING THIS FOR YOUR LAW PRACTICE SPEND THE EXTRA DOUGH ON THE XP450.THE FEDERAL COURTS ARE GOING PAPERLESS AND THIS IS THE TOOL TO KEEP UP.
2-0 out of 5 stars XP 450 Constantly loses Connection
I use this in a law office/buiness setting with an IBM laptop running Windows 2000.The problem is if I do not scan something for about an hour, the scanner loses its connection and you have to turn it off and back on to get it to scan.A royal pain in the you now what since the power button is on the back.I called Visioneer support and they said "That is the way it works - if you do not use it it loses connection."I think that is BS.My HP did not. If someone else has problem and a fix, let me know.Otherwise, our office just nixed buying 50 more of these since I was the test case. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed review for DocuMate 252
I have been using the DocuMate for two months, but it was in use for some time before I arrived at my company.I like the machine a lot and have considered calling my co-workers at my former place of business to recommend it.
1-0 out of 5 stars stay away from xerox
Bought this for a research project. Broke down after scanning just under 4,000 pages (it's supposed to scan 2,500 per day). No longer under warranty (2 mos. past), so Xerox refused to send another one. Xerox does not service it's own products or sell replacement parts. I've talked to a number of repair centers who say the documate is junk. So stay away from this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Double-Sided but Half-Baked
This product fairly reeks of the "rush to release" syndrome. The instruction manual comes with several separate "Errata" sheets attached, correcting misinformation inadvertently printed in the manual. If you use this scanner, you can't have any drivers for any other Visioneer scanners on your computer, which is frankly ridiculous -- for a scanner that costs $1000, you'd think the software engineers could devise a driver that doesn't cause such problems, especially since many people own more than one scanner. What's worse, they're not kidding -- I uninstalled the Documate driver and returned the scanner for a refund, but I still can't get my other scanners to work, because the Documate software screwed them up. This scanner is way too much trouble for the money. I wish I'd never heard of it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worthy of the HP name
This scanner has many good points, but doesn't live up to the HP name.It warms up slowly, scans slowly, and the manual slide mechanism on the 6390 version is a pain. I bought it to support a busy customer reception area, and it just isn't up to the job. Being a relatively expensive scanner, and an HP, I expected more.5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and quality scanner!
I have this scanner for more than a 1.5 years now. I have choosen it because it's HP, and for the document feeder (there is no slide adapter with the 6350, it is bundeled with the 6390).3-0 out of 5 stars Requires Minor Quality Tweaks
I did not purchase my 6350 at Amazon, but did so elsewhere.I have lived with this scanner for 2 months now. Here are my thoughts on this product.Note that the 3-stars and title I give this product are slightlymisleading. The scanning quality is exceptional. The automatic documentfeeder (ADF) is a huge plus, and convenience. The software packageincluded is alright. The setup and connections were no problems at all. With minor tweaking of this product, HP could really make it a scanner thatwill get it 5-stars in every category.Consider the following: 1.Thescanner does not include faxing software, or at least I could not find any. This is a minor issue, however.... 2.The scanner optical"glass" surface had smudge marks and foggy spots, right out ofthe box.Perhaps better quality control/assurance practices at HP will fixthis.Items with such obvious defects should never leave the manufacturingfacility.Note that the average user cannot clean the underside of thescanner "glass".Hp does not recommend this for the 6350. 3.HPshould have packaged the standard document cover with this unit as well. In cases where the ADF is required to be removed for repairs, the standardtop could easily be put on. 4.The construction and design of the unit isnot conducive to keeping the interior dust free.I state this as thechassis has several visible openings, that could introduce dust, fibresinto the inside of the scanner.Perhaps HP designed it this way forventilation and dessipation of built up heat from the unit.HP couldperhaps better the design in future versions of this model.Since the 6300is the identical model without the ADF, this fact applies to it as well, and other similar HP models too. In summary, I am quite pleased with thisproduct. It does have the potential to be a GREAT product with a littlemore effort on HP's part. Sincerely, aba4430 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
I first saw this scanner when I went to the hospital for a routine procedure and was impressed with its small size and speed. The employee who was scanning told me what a pleasure it was to use. I was hooked, and after doing some research, I bought it to use at home to replace my flatbed scanner. I scan receipts, warranties, bank statements, brochures, books, etc. I usually use it with my desktop pc, but it is so light and small that sometimes I take it into another room to use with my laptop.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it
This is not a cheap scanner, you already knew that. But I think it is worth the price if you have lots of paper you want to turn into ones and zeros.I had a few cardboard boxes full of paperback books that were taking up too much space, but I didn't want to throw them out.I cut off their bindings with a band saw and ran the pages through the FI-4120C and turned them into PDF files -- about 200 books, somewhere around 30,000 pages -- only cleaning out the paper dust every few books.I won't say it never jammed, but it jammed seldom enough to be highly productive, and it always had a good reason when it did, like residue binding adhesive. All the scans were excellent quality.I leave it set up on the computer desk because it doesn't take up much desk space. When bills or bank statements come in I scan them and throw away the paper instead of letting it pile up.A good, reliable commercial-quality document scanner, and rebuild kits are available for the rubber parts that wear out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent scanner.
I have used this scanner in my office for over a year with zero problems. It's fast, quiet, and efficient. And it does a great job with both letter and legal size documents. The automatic document feeder works well with documents up to about 50 pages long.

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing scanner
The scanner exceeded my expectations and support is fantastic.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Machine
Having just read the other reviews, one of which complained about paper jams, I want to affirm that this really is a remarkable scanner, faster and more efficient by far than any other I've owned.Like the other reviewer who was satisfied with its performance, I would honestly say that it has changed my life too, making me much readier to contemplate converting vast heaps of paper files into digital format.Sure, jamming occurs occasionally, but how could it not?The reviewer who was critical of this aspect of the device isn't being realistic about the challenge of fast sheet feeding.I would say the autofeed function works 95% of the time, and at an astonishingly quick rate.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed My Life
This is the first scanner I've owned that does everything fast and well. For the past several years I've been scanning paper files to hard disk, to the end of achieving a paperless life.
