Circles become ovals
Scanning a perfect circle results in ovals. Not so much so that you'd notice. But it is another reason to avoid this (or any other) dirt-cheap scanner.

Stay Away From Visioneer Scanners!
I bought three of them last year-all different models. One for home, one for the office and one for a co-worker.We have hardly ever used any of them, but now all of them suffer the same problem: "Unlock the scanner error". They are unlocked!!!

It's not good enough
The Scanner caused a little problem at first.After I restarted my computer, it worked ok.But the software was not good.My computer was P4 3.2GHz with 1G Ram, but the software consumed pretty much all the power of my computer.No other application could run.The user interface had to refresh for every inch you scroll.Imagine spending 20 seconds just to scroll from the top to the bottom of your contact list.I had to return it.

Color Business Card Scanner
Software installed without issues, which is always a blessing. Aside from requiring an expanded USB hub, Scanner was plug and play. Does everything the ads say and works flawlessly. Very pleased with the purchase. Was cost effective and does an excellent job. I'd highly recommend as a consideration.

Great business card scanner!
WorldCard Color is such a great product.I have been using it for three months and it really saves my time! I used to put all the business cards that I have collected into my briefcase.When I needed to contact my clients, I either sent emails to them individually by typing each individual's email address, or I called them individually.This was very inefficient and time consuming. Initially great, horrible later
Most of the reviews of this scanner are based on short-term, initial impressions after limited usage. I have used my 4000tf for nearly 4 years and thousands of negatives. Unfortunately, much of the scanning was done in the first two years, because subsequently, the scanner became balky and stopped working. The weak point seems to be the mechanism by which you introduce film holders to the scanner - namely, you push the film holder into the scanner until it grabs and accepts it. Eventually this system wears out and the scanner can no longer tell when the film holder has been fully ejected or when it is being inserted. As a result, the scanner motor cycles continuously as it tries to eject a film holder that is no longer inside, and once it stops cycling, any film holder introduced into the scanner will be immediately ejected. This prevents any scanning from occuring. This is not a software glitch or a interface glitch. This is a mechanical weakness. I have since found quite a few references to similar behavior in other owners' machines. If Microtek would fix this problem, that would be great. But Microtek has one of the worst customer service labyrinths I have seen. I have yet to find out where (if anywhere) Microtek has a repair center. As a result, I cannot recommend purchasing this scanner at any price. The Nikon V is the better alternative by far, especially when you add in the presence of digital ICE dust removal technology. The dust removal software in Silverfast is clumsy and ineffective in comparison. Don't buy this scanner.

Calibration Software Wonderful
I was looking for a dedicated slide scanner to replace a mid range model scanner that I was using before and was glad to find this one affordably priced.It has calibration software that lets me calibrate my monitor, scanner and printer using the same color scheme which is very helpful when you need the color to be as close to perfect as possible.Some of my clients are very picky and since I have started using the 4000tf I have not had any complaints with regards to the work.I would highly recommend this scanner to anyone out there looking for dedicated slide use.

Looks Great on Paper
This unit looked great on paper and I was excited at the prospect of scanning my old slides and negatives but the soft ware provided with this unit has serious flaws and tech support is less than helpful (the understatement of the year).I have other scanners and a state of the art PC, but in spite of waiting on hold forever (TOLL CALL) nothing works.The e-mail support is worthless. ... Paper loader
If you use the paper loader to scan, you have to be quick to load the paper or it will scan the scanner, I'm not that fast.

Awesome DVD Player
I have this player and I'm also selling this player.It's awesome and it comes with HDMI/DVI and HDMI/HDMI cable so you wouldn't have to go out and spend extra $$$$ for additional cables.It converts your old DVD to HIDEF picture.Gotta have it if you have HDTV.

I ordered the 255N as advertised, but received the 225N which is NOT an upconverting model.

Very unhappy

good scanner
bought it in 2004 for $35, still runs great. USB1.1 is not bad if you don't scan everything at highest resolution, i.e. 600dpi in pdf color format. I highly recommend it if sold under $25.

Using a scanner with an enlarger
I bought this as a base for making an image scanner for my Minox enlarger. This requires considerable re-engineering of the scanning element, and a lot of patience. However, the LiDE scanners are easily disassembled, and the scanning mechanism is simple to work with. As this unit is inexpensive, it is also practical in as much as you will likely destroy the first attempt.
An excellent experience
This is my first scanner. I was a bit wary buying it after reading comments on its problems with Windows XP but I bought it nevertheless. And I am happy that I made that decision. The installation, configuration and its use have all gone so smoothly that I can simply recount it as pleasure. It posed no problems, what so ever, working with a Windows XP Pro.

Nothing but problems with this card reader
I would NOT recommend this item.I had problem after problem with it and, in the end, it was not useful at all.While the tech support email service was notably quick in responding, their fixes could not salvage this effectively useless product.

Buy UMAXscanner if you are never going to upgrade yourr Operating system ever
I upgraded my Operating System to Windows XP and UMAX scanner stop working. Obviously it required driver for Windows XP.
not sure what these other reviewers are talking about ...
if you're looking for a scanner for freeway billboards or an ultra-professional, super-high resolution, ansel adams-worthy scanner like the other reviewers, this may not be the scanner for you but i've been using this scanner for 5 years and i have not had any problems with it. i would, however, share the disappointment with umax; when apple moved on to OSX, umax did not update the driver for the astra 3400. it's stuck on OS 9 and what sounds like a non-intuitive PC setup.

Worked briefly, then stopped
I got this for occasional scanning needs, and what a peice of $#!%. When it did work, it was reasonable, but at one point just started scanning grey.Patches, jiggling, tech support were all completely useless.Now they make you pay for drivers if you lost the disk, which is like adding expensive insult to injury.

works fine under Windows XP Service Pack 2
I just wanted to report that contrary to what others are saying, this scanner works fine for me in XP SP2.It took me all of three minutes to get it working.
Visioneer 9220 Scanner with paperport
All I can say is "Buyer Beware". The system requirements list Windows XP, however the driver and paperport software do not run under Windows XP Service Pack 2. New computers now come with SP2 and anyone using Microsoft's automatic updates has probably been updated to SP2. Visioneer makes no mention of this in their product information and you really have to dig through their knowledge base to find out the scanner will not work with your system, once you've already bought it and the software fails to install. What a disappointment. Visioneer recommends that you uninstall Service Pack 2 and completely uninstall the paperport software. After you do that and if you still have a viable operating system, the scanner software will install and work.

Love the scanner, hate the driver.Be careful!

Works great!!
I'm a network administrator (among other things!!) and my boss decided to buy this scanner for my department.I do a LOT of scanning and I don't have any complaints about this scanner.We've had it for about a year without any problems. It's true it takes a while doing the first scan, because it has to "warm up the lamp", but after that it's very fast.It comes with some bundled software you can use to scan several parts of a large image and then put them together like a puzzle, but to be honest I rather use photoshop to do that job, and I get great results!!
Plenty problems
I'm now on my third scanner of this type.
Great Scanner .... But,
It is a great design,, very easy to use and takes up little desk space.BUT, scanning any photos with large black spaces (ie black backdrop) left a streaked look and the black was more of a grey.HP promptly sent me a replacement scanner.This one the steaks are gone, but the black areas are still grayish and blotchy.

Incredibly fast scanner
We just received this scanner, and it installed instantly.It scans quickly, feeding about 2 seconds per page at 200 dpi and a little over 4 seconds per page at 400 dpi.
