1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Performance
I bought this product and I wish I had not.In most cases it is much faster and efficient to copy the text by typing than trying to scan it.You will only get a headache.

1-0 out of 5 stars QuickLink Pen Elite - Neither Quick nor Elite
Was excited to have gotten it but have spent a great deal of time fussing with it. Several issues with this pen: 1) Way to many errors, spend a great deal of time correcting errors, 2)Sometimes doesn't want to communicate with my computer(s), spend way too much time getting it to be recognized, 3)On numerous occasions have lost files I've scanned while communicating with my computer, transferring, and have never been able to retrieve them afterwards. This is especially frustrating after reading, and scanning portions of chapters, instead of using highlight pen or jotting notes, 4) Seems software is still living in the old 16-bit world of dos so naming files is limited to 8 characters. When I read chapters for research, I like to be able to name files something other chap1int,and 5) Tech support seems to be a joke, when I've emailed them on several occasions about problems there response has been: never heard of that problem before, reinstall software. If I had to do over again I think I would have either looked for alternative pen scanner or stuck with the old fashion way.

This thing is not easy to use. To scan accurately you have to go so slowly it would be much quicker to type. If you are lucky to get an error free scan then it is nearly impossible to use it with any other software ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PRODUCT FOR THE PRICE
This Visioneer scanner is an excellent product for the price and absurdly simple to use. Delivers high quality picture scans, and posseses OCR capability as well. Its sleek design and light weight make it very desktop friendly.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crap, Crap, Crap!!!
There is no other way to put it. All Visioneers are garbage. Purchased my 2nd one (after first one died for no reason after a year) and have experienced many problems.Lately it won't let me scan anything because of an error saying to "unlock your scanner".There is no Freakin lock on the darn thing!!!After contacting the company many many times (btw - there customer service sucks! - No telephone number, unless u pay $2 per minute, just a computer-generated machine that unsuccessfully helps you called SARA). I finally put a claim in through the Better Busines Beaureau, there response was that they couldn't send me a new scanner cause it was after 1 year of my purchase, but they would be so kind enough as to let me purchase a new one and give me 25% off of their price (which was probably an elevated price). I told them to kiss off! Anyway - please don't buy this product or any Visioneer product - they Suck!

1-0 out of 5 stars Hunk of garbage
I wish I could give this heap of trash 0 stars. The software is buggy, it installs applications that run every time you log in (Mac OS X) and they took extra time to make it unbelievably difficult to disable.
2-0 out of 5 stars Microtek Flatbed Scanners
Please Note: I purchased a somewhat different model - 6100 Pro - over 1 year ago. I was unhappy with the purchase from the onset and have subsequently purchased a Canon 8400F ... a great scanner.
2-0 out of 5 stars reveiws are great ,product for me not great
I was in need of a scanner and after reading reviews in pcworld,pc mag and othersdecided on the s400. bought it locally and followed the install instructions that came with the product. First install software, then connect scanner to power and usb it to computer. I was ready for my first scan. Unfortunatly the driver for the scanner that is included did not recognize the scanner. So i called support up on my dime and was on the phone with them for over 30 minutes and they told me to download the updated driver which is on the web site. I did, uninstalled the driver that came with it and installed the new driver. It worked for about 20 min and then the scanner would not activate. So unstead of calling support again i returned it. To pay for support during the installation process is not for me. I am sure this is a fine unit, but for me it did not work. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth buying
I have own two visioneer scanners, they work for a short period of time them start having trouble with them.Contacting Visioneer is a wate of time, they will try anything to get out of fxing your scanner, which is guarantee for ome year.I will not buy another one, and sugest that you do the same.HPmakes a scanner that has a year guarantee and they will replace theirscanner.

2-0 out of 5 stars Its not locked damnit
This scanner worked extremely well for about a year (interesting that's when the warrenty craps out). I then get the Lock error refered to above. It appears that the main bulb is burned out. I was acctually pertty impressed with there tech support. I got hold of a real person in less than 30 seconds. They offered to send be a new one If I could prove I bought it in the last year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and Fast
The pen is somewhat awkward to hold but once you get used to it, then everything is a breeze. Recognition is good (not perfect) and integration with MS Word is seamless. Overall good product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Product - nothing less...!
I used the IRIS Pen to scan all the printed text-media I gathered from work last year (about 300 pages of valuable data), in order to put it on a CD rather than having it in form of a huge pile of paper...it took me only 3days! Typing all of that information myself would have been a task unable to finish without this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Completely disatisfied...
The iris pen scanner says that it needs a USB port and CD drive.Unfortunately, they failed to mention that most USB drives do not have enough power to run the Iris pen's scanner.I tried 2 computers and called technical support 3 times. Each time it was the same story... not enough power.I told them that I had a brand new, expensive computer with only 2 other USB devices hooked up and he still said it wasn't enough.Anyway, I had to return mine and I would highly suggest looking for another product because the Iris Pen Scanner does not live up to its claims. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Effective and speedy
This works as expected, but I really disliked the Mac software it came with and opted to scan and edit via Photoshop. Also, it only scans 3 slides/pass. Sorta lame if you have hundreds to do.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good scanner, a little noisy.
Pretty good quality scans. The holder for scanning in film negatives works pretty well.Though you can only scan in 4 or 5 at a time.It is a bit noisy though.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT for slides
So far I've only tried it on slides.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Notch Scanner
For little money the PrimeFilm PF1800U Scanner is a powerful tool.
1-0 out of 5 stars WORST computer peripheral I ever bought!
Before buying this scanner, I'd had some of my 35mm transparencies professionally scanned, which produced great results but was an expensive approach. I bought this scanner in the hope that it would allow me to produce reasonable-quality scans at a lower price. Unfortunately, although the software worked fine for me, the quality of the scans is so hideously bad that I gave up in disgust after a few scans. Here are some of the problems: 1) strong pink tint to every scan. Although this can be corrected to some extent in software, there is a significant loss of color spectrum that cannot be restored. 2) Poor dynamic range: rendering of shadow detail is nonexistent. The most astonishing thing is that I bought my unit several years ago, and they're still selling this piece of junk now!

5-0 out of 5 stars PF 1800U USB Film Scanner
This economical 35mm film scanner is exactly what I wanted and needed. I have a large collection of 35mm slides taken in Korea and Vietnam; this scanner allows me to convert them to digital images on my computer and either print, send or share with others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Scanner
This scanner is the first scanner I have ever used that I am acutally happy with. The PaperPort software is a powerful tool.ADF feeds legal and letter size sheets very well, scans quite quickly, although not as fast as some.Overall, I am very happy with the product.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK - don't waste your money or time!
My company bought this scanner about a year and a half ago.We have 10 - 15 people who use it intermittently. It does not see heavy use. From the beginning we've had trouble with it jamming and feeding multiple pages. The cover to open it is very hard to snap open, and it won't recover from a jam without us turning off the scanner and rebooting the computer.I discovered that if I change the automatic document feeder pad assembly every 3 months or so, which I should not have to do, it helps the jamming and misfeed issue.Recently I went to order these pads, which were $20.00 apiece, and I couldn't find them on Xerox's website. When I called them they said this item was no longer being sold individually, but in a kit with cleaning solution and 2 pads.So what would have cost $40.00 - bad enough - now costs $100.00 !! As if we haven't spent enough money and frustration on this thing.I am going to do my best to get rid of this thing and buy one that works!

4-0 out of 5 stars Some problems - but an adequate unit.
For a cheap sheet-feed scanner the 510 seems an adequate unit (I paid £185 including delivery and VAT) and I've used mine daily for 8 months scanning many thousands of pages. After a paper jam the scanner will not automatically recover - and refuses to continue scanning. In Windows XP the solution is to switch off the scanner for 10 seconds then on again. After up to 90 seconds the scanner will reset itself and the job can be continued. But who'd guess that that was possible ? The instructions make no mention of it and apparently owners have been starting jobs all over again after a jam. The software has worked flawlessly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing scans of seriously degraded film
I bought one of these units primarily to digitally archive hundreds of old photos shot and mounted as 6x6 and 35mm slides, as well as lots of B&W 35mm negatives. The 6x6 color slides are as much as 50 years old, with some mounted in glass -- which was a bad idea, as those slides have had exceptionally severe color shifts and many have been partially eaten by fungus trapped behind the glass. The scanner's digital ICE and ROC were downright magical (GEM less so, and DEE was sometimes great but touchy to adjust for some slides). With just a few exceptions, even gross over and under exposed slides still yielded usable images. Infected slides that I could barely see through came out perfect except for little pink splotches where the fungus was particularly nasty. The only other defect observed was that interference rings were highly visible on 3 out of about 50 glass-mounted slides...which I suspect was due to the slides having been overheated years ago when they were viewed by projection. Some non-glass mounted slides had significant heat warp damage, but I didn't see serious problems in their scans.BTW, scanning 6x6 slides requires an optional adapter...it's a pitty that the adapter doesn't hold at least three 6x6 slides at once and it does take a little time to put a new slide in, but that time was hidden by the processing time using my 1.6GHz Turion laptop.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The quality of this scanner is amazing. The detail that it picks up from slides and negatives is incredible. The only drawbacks are that you have to scan bw negatives without Digital Ice (so you'll have a lot of manual cleanup to do) and the fact that there are no trays to scan 110 and 126 negative film (you could conceivably rig the existing trays to accomplish this). Still, it definitely gives you professional results. Sometimes the tray does go off track, but it's sporadic and so far nothing that can't be fixed with a reboot. A true value for your money - paying to have your negs and slides scanned would cost much more than buying this unit.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware...it doesn't work as advertised
This scanner makes too many errors and is pretty slow.I expected better after reading the other reviews.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected for Macintosh User
This is an early report after owning the pen for a week. I'm an OS X Macintosh user and while we are frequently forgotten when it comes to cool hardware, Iris remembered us...thank you! Frankly the pen works better than I expected it to, especially after reading the occasional negative reviews, which seem to be greatly exaggerated. I was tempted to give the pen a 5-star rating, because what the scanner attempts to do is quite complicated, compared to a flat-bed scanner. The pen scanner must be both smaller and much more intelligent. What holds me back from a 5-star is that the pen is not entirely plug-and-play. If the pen is disconnected from the USB hub, it's my experience that you must reconnect the pen and then restart the computer, or the pen is not recognized. Several times I've needed to restart to get the pen working for me again. The tilting of the pen (which some complain about) is easy, because there's a wide flat surface on the pen that guides the angle. What is important to remember is that you must calibrate in the same light as you scan. My initial frustration at inaccurate scanning was because I had calibrated under a bright lamp light, then proceeded to scan in a way that my hand cast a shadow on the text. After the obligatory restart, and being careful to keep the light consistent on the paper, scanning progressed smoothly, and it seems the unit scans faster than the recommended 1 inch per second. I could hardly believe the reviews that the pen would scan directly into MS Word, but it does, quickly and accurately. One particular font in a book turned a lot of the "e"s into "c"s but a spellcheck corrected those in short order, and I suspect I was going much faster than was recommended at the time. So far, this pen scanner excels at the difficult task of taking notes--a few here, a few there--from textbooks and magazines. A worthy research aid for writers and students.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad, bad, bad
Even if I carefully followed the instructions, it was impossible to get a clean text. Almost every word I scanned had one or two mistakes. The time to correct those mistakes amounts to the time it would take to type the text with two fingers, as I always type. Inshort, I have the Iris Pen "Executive" in the closet and I don't think I will ever use it again. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dosen't work
I bought it to scan slides and it doesn't do it.Oh, it scans them, sloooowly, but the result is a blob of color; not the image. The help manual is horrible; the Scanning Slides and Film chapter doesn't mention slides at all. Perhaps it works for the inventor who likely knows all the secrets of tweaking it but the manual doesn't explain anything at all about slides. This machine, at least for slides which is what I unfortunately bought it or, don't do the job.

4-0 out of 5 stars PrimeFilm 3650u
I love my new scanner. It's just what I wanted. Quick and easy. Photo's come out clear with the new digital ICE technology. Any more and it would be professional.

2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult and not so great results
We purchased the scanner with expectations of converting our old slides. The scanner was difficult to start up, even following the directions did not work and we had to improvise, but we started the process an hr1 1/2later. The software it came with is not user friendly. It is difficult to get the results you want. We tried scanning several ways and about 1 out of three slides would have a black line through them. The scanner also has a flaw that it has an open window where dust falls into and the dust comes through on the slides. I had to use a cotton swab to clean it several times throughout the scanning. The scanning time is also about 5-7 minutes for one slide, on it's highest resolution, which is really the only somewhat acceptable picture. After trying several hundred scans I am taking it back. My husband and I are both tech savy and this scanner is just a frustration. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine scanner
Having owned an older model of Visioneer for 4 years without trouble until it recently died, I had no qualms about buying another one. However, I still researched other brands and models for features, price, and user reviews.Ultimately, I settled on this 9420 and am quite pleased with it.Setup was easy, but with one snag, which I will mention for others' benefit. The initial scans showed vertical lines, so I checked the Visioneer website for help.Their online knowledge base states that the calibration file may be corrupt, so the solution is to uninstall the driver and software and reinstall it, which resets the calibration.I did this and it solved the problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good.
Faced with multiple scanning of photos, I chose this model after my pleasant experience with an old PaperPort Visioneer. This is faster and easy to operate.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Tech Service - - Don't buy one
Our government office has several Visoneer scanners, so I thought I'd get one for home, since I already understand how to use it.The 9420 I received would not unlock, no matter what I did.A call to tech support put me on hold for 9 minutes, then I got a recording telling me it would be another 15 minutes. This is not a toll free call, so I hung up.I then called Customer Service, and was told she could put me back in line for tech support -- in which I replied -- give me an RMA -- I'm sending it back. She emailed me a prepaid UPS label, and I sent it back.VIsoneer's tech support line really does suck.I just ordered a Canon.
