1-0 out of 5 stars Beware for computers freezing up
I have used the 5000 ED for the past week and my computer (running XP home edition) keeps freezing up after scanning 2 - 25 slides, forcing me to perform a cold reboot. I have sent a request to Nikon, but haven't heard a word. If only I could return this unreliable piece of hardware.
2-0 out of 5 stars Poor scanner crippled by even worse software
This scanner is extremely slow, taking up to several minutes per negative.
3-0 out of 5 stars Expansive scanner with extermely poor and buggy software
One would expect that a company developing professional scanners would have the pride to develop software matching in quality. But you would be greatly disappointed to discover that this grand heavy hardware comes with poor software and therefore only amounts to a mediocre product not worth the money. The software (Nikon Scan) is buggy, leaky and crashes after about the second or third scan of a negative strip. I am running the latest version of Windows XP, with all the patches, and basically have to stop every thing else from running on my 320Ghz, 2GB new PC. This buys me just another single strip before it either freezes, forcing me to kill the application, or it silently crashes. I don't even want to go into the usability and documentation. Enough said. Extremely disappointing and not worth the money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive solution for large format scanning
I think this scanner is really great and it's the only flatbed out there that I've seen below $300-400. My first one was really great, but it was flaky. This is my second one and it works as expected and points out what was wrong with the first one. Mechanically the first one suffered from power shorts from the start that I misinterpreted as a power saving feature, this one doesn't and is always on. I used the heck out of the first one and it had nice quality. Performance is nice. Best investment I've made. And so inexpensive I don't mind just outright buying a new one when the old one crapped out on me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific forscrapbooking/large projects
As a professional designer in the scrapbooking industry I completely rely on the dependability and color quality of this scanner for my 12x12 pages.I have never had a problem in 3 years and only now need a new one.A great value for a scanner of this size and price! Some adjusting in the contrast/brightness, even saturation is needed but I would expect to do that with any scan. That's part of the process unless you have $4-5,000 in extra cash lying around for the tip top line of scanners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good scanner, great value
Don't believe the naysayers. This is a good machine. Most of these negative comments were written by folks who probably had no experience in scanning. There is a learning curve. DUH? No scanner scans everything perfectly right out of the box. Adjustments have to be made in order to get acceptable results. These people who criticize the Mustek ScanExpress, are proclaiming their own ignorance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pricey But Worth Every Penny...
If you are serious about getting high-quality scans from 35mm transparencies, as well as larger formats, this is your scanner.I am in the process of scanning hundreds of old slides of India and am bowled over by the quality of the images, even before tweaking them in Photoshop CS2. The V750-M Pro is worth every penny of its purchase price. I intended to buy the Epson Perfection 4990, but its lack of availability forced me into buying the V750, which I am very glad I did, after having a bad experience with a high-end MicroTek scanner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Epson V750 initial use
At this point I have scanned a number of 35mm, 120 sq. & 6x12 transparencies. The results are beyond my expectations.A comprehensive manual would have been a welcome addition to the package. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Microtek Flatbed Scanners
Please note:I purchased a somewhat different model - 6100 Pro - over 1 year ago.I was unhappy with the purchase from the onset and have subsequently purchased a Canon 8400F ...a great scanner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use, Dependable, Flexible & Affordable
I've had my ScanMaker i900 about a year now, and I couldn't be happier with it.It set up easily -- plug it in, load the software, restart, and go -- and has worked beyond expectations ever since. The only glitch occurred the first time I upgraded my Mac to OS 10.3, but once I did a quick search online and found an appropriate Microtek updater, it was golden again.I have since updated to OS 10.4.7 without any problems, so it was clearly just a typical software update situation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Problems With Set Up But Worth the Trouble!
I bought the I900 in order to be able to scan negatives, slides and transparencies- as well as reflective items on the scanning bed's larger size scan area. The item arrived in a box the size of a coffin but fortunately most of that was due to packaging. The scanner itself is indeed quite a bit bigger (and much heavier) than conventional scanners, but the size is more manageable than the packaging might indicate. This is a solidly built machine. Here are the pros and cons.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible, terrible, terrible scanner
I bought this scanner refurbished, my first document feeder scanner for home use. All of the problems that these other users have had I am having in abundance also.
2-0 out of 5 stars When it works it's great
The trouble is it is temperamental.
1-0 out of 5 stars Exemplifies the demise of HP quality
Buggy hardware and software. Software has multiple patches trying to correct many problems, but most of the patches don't work.Scannerfrequently "locks up."Much time wasted uninstalling and reinstalling software to get the scanner to work. The first scanner stopped working and was replaced by HP, then the replacement scanner stopped working outside the warranty period.Overseas tech support is polite, but ineffective. This scanner and the premature demise of my HP 3200 All In One printer have ended my use of HP peripherals in my office. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Very good product
Positive:Converts negatives and positives into digital photos very easily.Recognizes more than one photo on the scanner and creates a separate image. The included software is excellent especially Adobe Elements.Set up is very easy.Tech support at Epson is very good.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great for flat art and large film.
I bought a V700 because my Epson 4990 developed a bad pixel and the V750 was not yet available. This my fourth Epson scanner and its really much the same as the others. Its fine for scanning photos or documents, surprisingly good for medium format or large format film and lousy for 35mm.When you consider that a really good, flat field process lens for duplicating 35mm slides costs almost as much as this scanner you realize you get what you pay for.
4-0 out of 5 stars Epson Perfection Scanner
Outstanding product quality, but it takes work to get the best out of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Little Device
Scanning used to be a hideous ordeal for me--fire up the scanner software, wait for the scanner to warm up, position and re-position the item to be scanned on a huge flatbed scanner inconveniently out of reach of my desk. This tiny device has changed all that:It works quietly, instantaneously and seamlessly with my Windows XP system.I particularly love the tiny footprint and lack of a power cord.Serious paperless-office freaks should definitely consider this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small footprint, perfect for digital document archives
Let me clear up a couple of mistakes other people have written in their reviews:
1-0 out of 5 stars garbage!!!
terrible scans (the paper shifts causing crooked or wavy scans plus scan quality is poor), terrible OS - contantly crashes or even hangs up my pc, terrible tech support.my old Vx worked great for many years- even though it was just black and white and the tech support was almost useless - but it's was not compatible with XP so i had to get rid of it.do NOT buy the XP100 unless you really need more stress in your life. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't completely work with Acrobat
I got this to help me scan paper documents to save as pdfs to de-paper my office. Except for some difficulties clearing the rare paper jams, it seems to be fine mechanically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome scanner once you get the issues worked out
I agree that I did have some problems with paper jams in the ADF.But then I noticed that it seemed to mostly happen with smaller width paper (11" long, but less than 8.5" wide) and legal size documents when trying to duplex.Well, then I read the manual (duh!) and it clearly states that the scanner is not set up to duplex legal size documents or unusual sized paper. So I thought that was a problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful addition to my office
I haven't had any of the problems the other reviewer mentioned. The document feeder has not jammed on me yet and is incredibly quick compared to my old machine.Once you customize the settings, it's one touch operation. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars too slow and ugly accuracy

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product.
The only thing I find that's somewhat negative about this pen is that holding it and seeing where you're "going" is a bit awkward and takes some maneuvering to get book and pen positioned so that it works well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another perfect Epson Perfection scanner.
This is the second Epson Perfection scanner I've purchased for myself and about the 15th one I've bought overall. I've never had a bad experience with Epson scanners and this one is no exception.
5-0 out of 5 stars Made the impossible.....possible
Much like a previous reviewer, I am trying to put a lifetime of photos onto a DVD for an 80th birthday party (my grandmother).I have a Canon MP730 All In One, and thought that I could do the project with that. After about 30 photos taking me 3-4 hours, I gave up.I started looking for a professional place to do these, and they wanted between $1.50 and $4.00 a photo.I looked around and found the Epson 3490 scanner and Epson Photo Feeder.I bought both and have scanned in almost 700 pictures in the last 5 days with it- all while doing other things!I haven't even really needed to try all that hard.
