VCR Rewinder
Since VCR tapes are becoming obsolete, it is more difficult to find a rewinder.This is an important product for those of us who still use VCR tapes as it helps to save the motor drive on our VCR or DVD/VCR machines.The rewinder we received works great.We got a kick out of the car appearance and the fact that the headlights turn on when it is rewinding.It serves our need well and we feel fortunate to find one. Good but with One Minor Problem!
This GE Slimline VHS Rewinder is good. It is nice to use this to rewind video tapes back to the beginning instead of having to use the VCR and wear out the heads! My only complaint is that some of our old blank media video tapes that are a lot bigger and bulkier than most other VHS video tapes do not fit in the rewinder. Actually they fit but the rewinder door will not close. But all in all a good product.

Tape destroyer
I bought this on the basis of the top review here, and am sorry I did. The unit pulls so hard it has torn several tapes right off the spools, and seldom opens by itself once the tape is rewound -- the motor keeps hauling away at a fully rewound tape.It often balks at loading cassettes and balks at releasing them; numerous time I've had to pry my tapes out of it with a screwdriver.Not once has the cleaning button stayed down, so this feature is as good as absent.I finally put the infernal thing in the garbage, where it belongs. ... Fantastic VHS Rewinder!
This rewinder is really terrific.It is very simple to use and rewinds VHS tapes both quickly and quietly.It was purchased for use at my husband's business but we love it so much that we are going to buy another one for use at home. If you are looking for a really good rewinder, I definitely recommend this one.

I ordered two of these items. One operated properly and the other one did nothing. You sent me a replacement. The replacement works, but the red indicator light does not function.

This should be a -5 star
This is a piece of garbage.The button wouldn't stay down, it ate tapes, then the thing literally melted.I take care of my things and generally have very few problems with electronics.Not so with this cheap, rather expensive item.I will no longer buy any Maxell product, even their blank CD's and DVD's because of the poor quality I experienced with this rewinder.I threw it in the garbage but I really wanted to mail it to the CEO of Maxell with my opinion of it.

worked fine for me so far.
I just got mine. I had two tapes which my camcorder tried to eat and wouldn't rewind --- I was hoping if I could get something like this to rewind them then I could still play them in my camcorder (it plays and records okay, just has trouble rewinding sometimes). So I popped it out of the box, plugged it in, first tried it with a test tape (had to, after reading all you other reviewers' bad experiences!) and had no problem. Then I popped in the first bad tape and rewound it with no problem, then the second and the same thing, no problem. I was going to just take these two tapes to a video shop and have them repair them and transfer them to DVD which would have cost over $100. But now I think I should be able to do the transfer to DVD myself. So while I might have problems in the future like other users, I figure it has saved me $100 bucks, so it was a great buy for me. I'll update my review if I encounter problems, but in sum it worked perfectly for the 3 tapes I tried so far (2 which were slightly broken!)

Don't get this product!
This product is BAD. It worked OK for the first month although the rewinding speed was irregular, etc. It begins to eat tapes now. I can't use it any more because it ate my tapes three times straight. ... Read more

A ruddy godsend!
I actually met someone the other day that still rewinds their VHS tapes using their video player. What a fool! It took all my willpower not to spit in his face for his sheer stupidity. Why wear out that all too precious rewind button on your VCR when you can spend good money on this specialist bit of kit that will do the job for you???
Not Up to Expectations
I just received my unit and had problems with the first five tapes I attempted to rewind. The lid opened before the tape was rewound and I would have to try again. This morning I successfully rewound two tapes. May have been operator error, but I don't think so. If I have any more problems, I will have to return it.

Great value, reliable, quiet, what more could you want?
For the price this little rewinder is amazingly quiet.I've had it for a year now and it still has never given me any problems. Certain tapes will cause a little noise, but I think it's the tape, not the rewinder. Poor and horrible!!!
Please do not buy this product... it is a waste of money and your time.I brought it and exchanged it 3 times and as someone mentioned earlier, a delicate part always fry and its not something that can be easily fixed.

Breaks easily
This is the only rewinder found at my local Best Buy, so I bought it.It seems that when the video finally gets to the start, it ought to pop up but sometimes does not.When that happens, it apparently fries some delicate part in the rewinder and then it doesn't work again.There's no predicting when yours will act like this, but my experience is that it can happen in the first dozen times you use it. ... A Piece of Junk
This Tape Rewinder is noisy, slow and at first didn't work to rewind at all, just fast forward, but I was persistant and got the rewinder working.I was not happy with it at all.

Don't bother
First of all, my unit started to fail less than 1 year after I purchased it.The motor started to get weak and had trouble rewinding tapes fully, sometimes stopping before completing the task.Other times the lid wouldn't open automatically at the end of the rewind mode, and I had to press some of the buttons to make it pop up.Even when the unit was working normally, it was obvious the rewinds were not as tension-controlled as the product's manual says.I noticed some "cinching" which is when the tape layers are unevenly wound and a wrinkle can be clearly visible between them, causing serious tape damage if left in that condition.This always occurred during the first 10 minutes of a tape or so, showing up as visual disturbances on playback.To wrap up - if you want good, smooth and fast rewinding (which this unit didn't provide even when new), use your VCR; regardless of what they make you believe, it won't cause any unusual wear and tear neither on the machine's heads or motor. Skip this product, it's not worth the trouble.

Poor quality rewinder.
I had one of these and I replaced it with a Gemini 2 way rewinder which is of a much higher build quality and runs more reliably than this one. The problems I experienced with this Ambico rewinder are: Very noisy, flimsy construction, Door getting stuck at times, Some tapes actually got tangled inside the reel of the tape itself while rewinding the last 12 inches or so. Like I said, if you can still find a Gemini rewinder go for it and ditch this piece of garbage. ... Read more

Cheap Junk
I bought this rewinder to replace an Omega 2 way ff/rw that I only had for a year.Initially with this and other rewinders, they are rough with tapes.Slamming at the end of the tape rewind isn't too good for a VHS tape over time.Along with this, the tape ends up looking unevenly wound throughout the reel, and in some cases the outer edge of tape, about 10 minutes worth, is buckled causing tape damage, and a nice buzzing tracking line down the screen upon playback.The concept of having a rewinder makes sense, because it does save wear & tear on the motor of your VCR, but the trade off is that you end up with damaged tapes.I returned this rewinder and just bought a basic JVC VCR to use as a rewinder.It's gentle with tapes, and gears down when it is coming to the beginning of the tape, unlike this Kinyo rewinder and others in this product line. ... Terrific kid's room item!
This VHS tape rewinder looks like a sleek red sportscar--complete with headlights that run when it's doing its work.I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of this item because my 4 year-old now enjoys rewinding tapes almost as much as he enjoys viewing them!We constantly borrow educational videos from the public library.All of the rewinding necessary takes a lot of time AND puts great wear and tear on VCRs.This takes a lot of stress away from those expensive machines!Also, the price is a bargain! ...
