5-0 out of 5 stars Still the BEST!!
We've been using this unit for 3 years now and it is still the best. IMO many ways superior to Tivo. The commercial advance is a Godsend! And it works! The ethernet and digital streaming capabilities are superior to anything Tivo has to offer.Of course it is now owned and supported by the Marantz people and continues to work great. Glad I got the lifetime service agreement! It's still a great choice, if you can find one . . .

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for the first 18-months...then it died
I loved the ReplayTV 5160 during it's short life.It has great features, including commercial skip and networking.Maybe I overused it, because now it is a dying old beast. It was new just 18 months ago, but now it freezes every night. It has to be unplugged for a few hours and then it works again when it is plugged in.Too bad I bought the "lifetime" subscription to their Guide service!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Thing to Ever happen to my TV life...
The 5000 series is surely the best DVR ever released. The 5040, 5060, and 5080 all have AUTOMATIC COMMERCIAL SKIP and you can DOWNLOAD and share programs over the internet. Many 3rd party plug-ins allow you to use a personal computer to save, back-up and schedule recordings. The never versions of the Replay box do not have these features as the original company was facing legal problems and sold to the less innovative DMG holdings.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent media receiver... so-so DVD player
If the D2740 was only a wireless media player, I would have given it four stars. The UI is simple but good. The software that you install on your PC is good but it takes forever to search for media. I like that the D2740 will connect to Real Media player to allow streaming of internet radio stations.
4-0 out of 5 stars GoVideo D2740 - Not bad at all
I've had this unit for a few months now and really like it.Streaming media wirelessly from my PC is great..saves tons of time and money burning CDs and DVDs.Does mpg's great and most avi's.Xvids can be a pain(out of sync audio), but you can use a program called mpeg4modifier to unpack the bitstream and then they work fine too.Only 2 things bug me about this player: 1) The remote is the worst!Have to press buttons repeatedly for it to work, even when pointed directly at the player.I fixed this by buying a Kameleon(sp?) remote from Radio Shack.2) Their support stinks.I filed an online support request for the remote, sent many follow up emails, and they simply don't respond.Overall though, very happy with the player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Okay but I was hoping for more...
The GoVideo D2740 media player connects to your home network and plays photos, music and video files that already reside on your home computer. It supports a good variety of formats and the interface is simple if not speedy.I had one setup problem due to WEP (it likes you to enter all 4 keys) and one due to Norton Worm Protection (they don't coexist) but after adjusting those settings it works fine.

This revolutionary, new digital video recorder will change the way you watch television. ReplayTV is a separate unit from your TV--similar to a VCR but instead of using tapes, ReplayTV records television programs digitally and stores the information on a hard drive, much like a computer. And because ReplayTV has no moving parts, there's no wear on video heads or on your favorite recordings.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars life changing
This little recorder make the top 3 list in my house.1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy ReplayTV
I bought the replaytv 60 hr unit and have had nothing but problems for 7 months. The first unit had a problem with the modem. It would connect to the server only once in a great while. The next 4 (that's right 4 replacement units that replayTV sent) all skipped. I should say they skipped and froze up to be acurate. The last unit not only skipped but also rebooted itself every half hour or so. I am currently waiting for the next unit(these were all different units with different serial numbers not my same unit repaired) but I have given up hope of ever having a working unit. The fact that 5 different units have had problems shows the widespread unreliability of the ReplayTV hardware. When replaytv works it is great but this got to be the worst electronics device I have ever had as far as reliability and I have had quite a few. The first unit I had worked great other than the modem problem. It recorded everything and was a joy to use. The only problem is that if the modem does not work then the on screen tv listings are not updated and you eventually can't record the shows you want. The other units they sent have just been horrible and the last unit with the rebooting was the worst. I am very technically oriented and after countless hours with their tech support each time it was determined that it was hardware/software defects. Replaytv has tried to get the problems resolved but 5 replaytv units not working is just too much. What ever you do...don't buy ANY ReplayTV products or you will get to know their tech. support people very well. Remember, if I have had a problem with 5 different units than the likelyhood that you will have a problem is probably pretty good no matter which model you buy. If you want a DVR then look at Tvio; they can't be worse than RepalyTV. I don't own Tivo but if I had it to do over again....I guess the $9.95 a month doesn't seem so much now. I spent $65.00 shipping it back the first few times before I got ReplayTV to pay shipping each way on later units. Stay away from anything ReplayTV.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for the 1st month or so
After regular use, Replay TV units break. The hard drive wears out and video/sound gets blotchy.I've returned two different defective units, and still have not received a replacement EIGHT WEEKS later. They do not honor their warranty. Also check out ... (Better Business Bureau).Under "Check Out A Company", punch up Replay TV in Mountain View, CA.I'm not the only one who is having trouble getting them to fix their bad product. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Lies, damned lies, and politics?
Those reviews were probably made by the manufacturer. It's a suck a*s piece of equipment. They would have been better off ripping off source code from Freevo or MythTV to make it work. Browsing the internet blows, it won't pick up network shares via SMB like my Roku HD1000 does. It won't output on Component. S-Video outputs in 4:3, composite outputs widescreen but overscanned. VGA outputs fine. There was a loose screw in my review unit. The DVD drive is misaligned and is picky about ejecting. The hard drive is a WD and was improperly cabled and jumpered as cable select. Only 128MB of RAM. What is it good for? Hacking it!! That'd be about it. I'd double the RAM, throw in a Seagate drive, and install Gentoo with MythTV if you could. The box is nothing more than a 1Ghz C3 (think Mini-ITX) with fairly standard components. That's all I can say without ranting some mornotanatheist@yahoo.come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Without TiVo, what's the point of TV?
I bought one of the early models of TiVo, and added drive space to make it a 110 hour unit. I wouldn't bother watching TV without it. It really is everything it promises. I don't know what time a lot of my programs come on, or what day of the week, I just watch them when I feel like watching them. I have a one year old daughter, and I would especially reccomend TiVo to new parents. Without the ability to pause, or just stop and come back to it later, a new parent can't expect to watch anything all the way through. 5-0 out of 5 stars WE LOVE TIVO!
We never even heard of TIVO until our children gave us one last Christmas. The TIVO came with a lifetime subscription which made it even better. We are retired and not exactly "Hi Tech" people, so we paid someone recommended by our excellent store, Sound Advice" to hook it up and educate us in the use, etc. This service was great, as we also had to hook up a DVD player to the TV (a gift from another of our kids). There is nothing easier to program for recording. No tapes, no fuss .As sports fans we particularly like the ability to do our own instant replay.I no longer dread the telephone or doorbell interupting "Jeopardy", as I can pause the program and pick it up later.I recommend this product to everyone that loves TV.5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
I bought the HDR112 but is the exact same product as the 612.It was the greatest decision I have ever made. There's no buyer's remorce with TiVo.I've had it for 5 months now and I don't know how I ever lived without it. ... Read more

A ReplayTV DVR (digital video recorder) makes it simple to record favorite shows without the complicated programming requirements of VCRs and without videotape hassles. The result? You are freed from set TV schedules, and you watch what you want, when you want. ReplayTV connects nightly to the ReplayTV service to download the latest channel guide information. You use this intuitive channel guide and main menu to follow simple--and in many cases, one-button--prompts. Because ReplayTV uses digital recording to store live television on a hard drive as you're watching, you'll also be able to control live TV. You can pause live TV to take a telephone call, rewind to see a scene again, use instant replay to jump back seven seconds, or watch a scene in slow motion.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Check out Digital Networks Better Business Bureau rating.
Unsatisfactory. Do not buy the lifetime subscription. Do not buy the product unless you don't mind awful customer service. I have had two models (RTV3030 and RTV5504). The hard drives will fail. You will need technical support. Here is what you can look forward to.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but better than 4 Stars!
Commercial Advance - *4-0 out of 5 stars Largest capacity PVR on the market
If you ask anyone that's owned a ReplayTV or a Tivo, they will tell you that they never want to go back to TV without one. The 4532 is just more of a good thing. While it's rated at 320hrs. of recorded material, nobody I know watches on low resolution, which is the reason to own a large capacity unit. When run at medium quality setting, you are down to 160hrs, and increasing to highest quality reduces that even further. For us, an 80hr unit is plenty, however we want all 80hrs to be of the highest video quality, hence the 4320. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good concept, poor execution, TERRIBLE customer service!
First, let me say that if it worked as advertised, I'd be happy.Heck, I'd even be happy if it mostly worked as advertised. However, I had a VERY different experience.I bought mine in September 2003.It always had problems playing over a WiFi network - video would freeze up and the NIC would lose its IP address. Not an issue with my network, as I had perfect, continuous connectivity on 2 laptops elsewhere. Finally got it connected directly and the video was great, but now I have a wire running across my living room.1-0 out of 5 stars Not working in less than a month of use
This unit was connected worked with my system less than a month, now it is NOT working. Not ejecting nor showing anything on my TV screen. I've tried everything it said to do in the manual yet it has NO capability of playing nor ejecting a CD or DVD.1-0 out of 5 stars It died just out of warranty. Buy a different one!
When it worked, it worked great! I mainly used it for streaming my MP3's wirelessly with my Netgear card, and it worked beautifully. It also played all media I threw at it with no problems: DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW. Quality of the DVD player itself seemed better than I expected of Oritron. The player's cabinet seemed solid, the faceplate seems to be metal-plated plastic since it feels a little cool to the touch. Fit & finish are good. The appearance is understated and classy. The remote on the other hand, is cheap and junky. The sliding door feels like it wants to come off and the buttons are squishy and stick. 6-months later, the display shows gibberish and the DVD part doesn't work at all. Being an electronics nerd, I decided to take it apart. I found the +5V voltage was reading +3V and noticed capacitor "C18" in the power supply was swollen. I replaced it and now it works, but the display is still showing gibberish. GoVideo D2730, Gateway Connected DVD Player, Amoisonic NDP9200 all run the same software and work the same, I would buy one of those before this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Gateway Strikes Again
Gateway is developing a reputation of selling "neat ideas" but quickly abandoning them.My neighbor bought a big screen TV from them and after inumerable service calls, sent it back and got a "real" TV from a "real" manufacturer.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good player, but discontinued - beware!
This player does more or less what it says it's supposed to do, but potential buyers should be aware that this is a "rebranded" product. That is, Gateway does not manufacture it (they don't manufacture anything but PC's as far as I know). It has now been "end of life'd", so the ones on sale are just what's left in the supply chain, no more new ones are being made and Gateway does not sell this item anymore. It has been abandonded by Gateway, so there will be no more software or firmware upgrades. They also don't have any more parts for it, so if you lose your remote control (as I did), it's impossible to get a new one.I can't imagine what a nightmare it would be to get service on it if it breaks.
1-0 out of 5 stars No longer made
I was interested in this product, but concerned that I couldn't find it on Gateway's web site.I called and asked support and was told it was "no longer being sold" on 21-Nov-04. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Standard
This has component outputs, the analog way to transmit a HDTV signal. There is nothing wrong with that, because they carry full resilution of HDTV. Almost no Projection HDTV has DVI, smaller HDLCDs do not, really only expensive Plasma, LCD, and Projector sets do. And thats great, because it preserves the digital qualiy, but every HDTV set will work fine with this, and there is no basis for a one star rating.

1-0 out of 5 stars good for older tv's..not new
