1-0 out of 5 stars nice when it works, on my 3rd in five months
My Hughes Directivo broke after about 4 months of use. After much digging, I was able to find a tech support phone number where, after walking me through a few steps, the offered to mail me a new one - provided I provide a credit card number that will be charged for a new unit if they don't receive my broken one within one months time. One week later I got the first replacement unit. That one didn't work. After one more week I got the second replacement unit. This one has worked a day, so far.I am not impressed.Plus I have to mail back two broken units AT MY OWN EXPENSE.If I only knew what I know now, I would have bought a different brand.5-0 out of 5 stars geoff cutcheon
I held off for a year or so before getting in to a tivo unit and only when I was in a store inquiring about one did I actually decide to buy one. It was only because it was a little more than a 100.00 off the shelf , was I willing to give it a try. The advertising of this product didn't really sell it to me. I was however intrigued to see if it was worth it. I have been recordong movies for years from various sources with mixed success. I was extremely pleased with the results I had from the Hughes unit. What they didn't fully explain was how much or how long you could store information or how easy it was to use. I have had only one minor glitch and I was able to eliminate it. I had a recent power surge and it blew out my stand alone rca direct tv box but didn't affect my hughes tivo/direct tv combo unit. Another great benefit the hughes all in one system has is in being able to record from local tv stations using there call #s such as channel 4 , 5 7, etc, instead of 929 or 930. The other advantage is in recording pay per view. It can all be done on the combo unit, where as with a stand alone you have to go back through the direct tv box, and so on. It is much faster than the stand alone unit and it stores considerably more recordings. I am sorry that even sales people I have talked to in the stores aren't able to see the advantages of the combo unit over the stand alones. Some people do not like to even use a vcr for anything other than playback mode, and for these people no amount of gadgets would attract them, but for those who like to record and store movies for future viewing, this is the only way to go. Your vcr get's a better result and if something goes wrong with the transfer you can always redo it before you delete it from memory, It is a great system and I'm sorry it took me so long to get them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy! It is unreliable with no customer service.
Ours stopped working 3 months after purchase.Sent it back to Hughes for repair.3 months later we are still waiting for a repaired unit.Customer service completely unhelpful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, decent customer sevice/rebate center
I've had my Tivo box for almost a year and it works great I get to watch all my favorite shows, and then record them onto a DVD. Obviously this is a TIVO box so you need to subscribe to TIVO service, so those of you whose Tivo doesnt work, you mightwant to subscribe to the service. I had a few problems with Tivo's rebate services/customer service, spoke to 20 different poeople, all claiming to be supervisors, but I did finally receive my rebate. (8 months later). Sucks thst it records 80 hours but only at lowest quality, but you can always transfer onto a DVD.
1-0 out of 5 stars The selling of this product is a fraud.
The presentation of this product before their purchase refers only to the technical properties of the machine but when you try to connect it at your home it forces you to buy a TiVo subscription that will cost you more than the product, even if you are not interested in it. The TiVo subscription program is not explained before selling you the machine.
4-0 out of 5 stars Go Humax DVR
I have been using tivo for years , but the Humax Tivo Dvr has taken the product to another level, I love it because of the way it produces dvds with very little effort from tivo recordings. One problem it has is gettting hung up in a cycle of restartting over and over againg when a dvd is inserted that it cannot read, bummer!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of both worlds
I have had a Tivo since they first came out.My original series one Tivo had a single tuner and had to use the IR attachement to change the channel.I was never satisfied with this arrangement. My problem was that we needed to record two shows that were on at the same time and this set up just couldn't do that.
1-0 out of 5 stars DirectTiVo is Crippled - Not fully enabled
I've had 6 Tivos but up until now, they have all been freestanding (TiVo1 and TiVo2) units. I switched to satellite about a year ago and was thrilled to find that DirecTV was offering Tivos.....Until I brought mine home. What they DON'T tell you is that DirecTV TiVo is designed and built for DirecTV only.It DOES NOT record cable or over the air broadcasts, it DOES NOT support networking (a fantastic feature for getting your schedule via Internet and sharing shows between multiple TiVos in a household) and, because it doesn't support networking, it also doesn't support the Home Media Option (which allows you to stream audio and images from your PC to your TiVo).It also doesn't support web based scheduling requests or the soon to be released TiVo-to-Go.These are all features that are central to the TiVo culture and I'm amazed that DirecTV has crippled their version of the TiVo service.I'd happily pay out the few bucks a month to add a DirecTV unit to my TiVo subscription, but DirecTV doesn't allow for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best TV Accessory Ever!!
I will make this short & sweet...this thing is amazing! It has truly changed our TV watching for the better.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good product for the bleeding edge adopter
The Photobridge is a nice product if you are looking for a bridge device between your PC and your HDTV.The product is of the most use with the 2.x "beta" version of the software and a couple of third party applications called Mplay and SlimRoku. It takes a healthy understanding of computers to get this device working, and with the above software and a 100Mb network connection there is little this device wont do.If you really want good information I would recommend looking at the forums on www.rokulabs.com and look under the Third Party applications topic for the Photobridge.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's so not what it could be :-(
I had high hopes for this unit and quicky discoverd it ain't what I'm loking for. For starters, the company openly states their goal as being to use their consumer electronics products as simple proof-of-concept products to highlight what the hardware and softare can do. They're not their to provide end-solutions - they're an OEM manufacturerer. That justifies the beta software, which I installed and ended up frying my machine, so it's going back tomorrow. Also keep in mind that it's a shell with bare-bones functionality, and you're expected to downlaod and run a thrird party app to actually mke it run, There are 2 or 3 available, but that's a lot less palatable than having the functiomality built it.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
Purchased the HD1000 for audio streaming and photograph display. The high definition digital display of photographs is great. Easy to set up and use. The audio capability is much more limited and not at all easy to use. I believe Roku is somewhat misleading in their claims about the audio capability of this unit. Many popular formats are not supported although Roku suggests using third part software. This is very limited and I am not a fan of having to use third part software to upgrade a product to meet its marketing claims. If audio is important to you, look elsewhere. I am disappointed with the device.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great unit . . Lousy Tech Support/Service
I have had a philips hdr312 TIVO unit for about 18 months.I LOVE TIVO. It is amazing and my family are all TIVO lovers. Even my wife, who hates all my electronics, loves tivo. The pause, rewind and Fast forward are awesome. We never start to watch our show until 20 minutes into it so we can zoom through comercials and still end at normal time.5-0 out of 5 stars 12 out of 14 work just fine!
I see quite a few comments on this page about modems and hard drives dying on Series 1 or Series 2 Philips DVR's (aka, Tivos). Between my family and friends, I know of 12 Tivos that have had NO hard drive or modem problems whatsoever! The first one was purchased almost 4 years ago, too!1-0 out of 5 stars Tivo great, Phillips stinks.
No doubt Tivo is the invention of the millenium, if you love TV (especially sports) like I do. But Phillips Tivo units are the worst electronic product I think I have ever purchased. There is a reason their warranty is 'limited' and after 90 days you will pay something to get it fixed. Every Phillips Tivo unit I've had, including the new 7000 unit, has broken in under a year, but over the 90 day full guarantee. And don't think you are actually going to talk to someone at Phillips, not without giving them your credit card # you aren't. Unfortunately, it appears the new Directv Tivo units are made by Phillips. Ugh. Bad choice, Directv. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars life changing
This little recorder make the top 3 list in my house.1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy ReplayTV
I bought the replaytv 60 hr unit and have had nothing but problems for 7 months. The first unit had a problem with the modem. It would connect to the server only once in a great while. The next 4 (that's right 4 replacement units that replayTV sent) all skipped. I should say they skipped and froze up to be acurate. The last unit not only skipped but also rebooted itself every half hour or so. I am currently waiting for the next unit(these were all different units with different serial numbers not my same unit repaired) but I have given up hope of ever having a working unit. The fact that 5 different units have had problems shows the widespread unreliability of the ReplayTV hardware. When replaytv works it is great but this got to be the worst electronics device I have ever had as far as reliability and I have had quite a few. The first unit I had worked great other than the modem problem. It recorded everything and was a joy to use. The only problem is that if the modem does not work then the on screen tv listings are not updated and you eventually can't record the shows you want. The other units they sent have just been horrible and the last unit with the rebooting was the worst. I am very technically oriented and after countless hours with their tech support each time it was determined that it was hardware/software defects. Replaytv has tried to get the problems resolved but 5 replaytv units not working is just too much. What ever you do...don't buy ANY ReplayTV products or you will get to know their tech. support people very well. Remember, if I have had a problem with 5 different units than the likelyhood that you will have a problem is probably pretty good no matter which model you buy. If you want a DVR then look at Tvio; they can't be worse than RepalyTV. I don't own Tivo but if I had it to do over again....I guess the $9.95 a month doesn't seem so much now. I spent $65.00 shipping it back the first few times before I got ReplayTV to pay shipping each way on later units. Stay away from anything ReplayTV.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good for the 1st month or so

The tivo part still works but the first thing that broke was the dvd burning part. Then 4 months later the dvd stopped playing dvds.Get a normal Tivo. They are grea this company is very poor.I will never buy a Humax anything ever again. You can buy a 30 dollar dvd player at best buy that will last years.Humax is expensive and didn't last 5 months.

5-0 out of 5 stars There are two versions of this TiVo
Evidently, TiVo got Humax (a Korean company) started in introducing their TiVo by manufacturing them first on the same assembly line. These are marked "Made in Mexico."

Editorial Review

With its ability to provide compact, lightweight video and audio fun for commuters, travelers, and students, GoVideo's PVP4040 Pocket Cinema player/recorder a stylish treat. 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy another brand
Although I purchased a different unit, the GoVideo 8440 Portable DVD Player, it played exactly 6 movies before dying.GoVideo replaced it with a refurbished model, which arrived in non-working condition. In addition, the original 90 day warranty is still in force, GoVideo refused to extend it to the refurbished unit.Sitting on hold now with customer service waiting for a answer...I heartily recommend NOT BUYING any GoVideo products unless you are prepared for wasted money and time on hold with customer service.
