Owned it for 2 years now... LOVE IT !
In 2 years we have had no problems at all with the TiVO box itself (80 hrs version), and the remote is still in excellent shape, which is really surprising considering the very, very heavy daily use of some of its buttons.
Totally Worth The Money
Regardless of what the machine recording capacity is (in my case 80 hours), this machine and service is absolutely worth the investment!

We've had our TiVo Series 2 DVR for nearly three years (hard to imagine it's been that long but there you have it). For the most part, we've loved it. We're spoiled with pausing live TV, we love the season pass capability, and we love the wish lists. We've had no problem with picture quality or the operation of the TiVo, which is well loved by my hubby, my three teenagers, and myself. The customer service is awesome, and I love the little TiVo guy.

Tivo is Great, DVD recorder is unreliable
I bought this unit in October 2005 - purchased for the TIVO with DVD burning capability.The Tivo was easy to setup, easy to use.DVD burning worked well for 4 months then,I began to get error messages "saving failed - internal error".Resetting/restarting did not solve the problem.Toshiba tech support was no help.The unit had to be sent in for repair - 2 weeks later I received a "reconditioned" unit.The reconditioned unit worked for 30 days, then began with the same error message. Tech supports only answer "unplug it and then plug it in - if that doesn't solve the problem, you will have to send it in for repair".Toshiba paid the shipping costs for the 2nd return.3 weeks later I received the 3rd unit - reconditioned.On the first day, I got the same error message.Tivo works fine, I am able to record and view programs, but not able to burn DVD's.It seems a shame since I paid extra for this capability. I don't know what Toshiba will do at this point.After 3 failed units, I think it is fairly certain that reliability is poor for the DVD burning option.

A good deal, especially if you don't want more than Basic TIVO
I bought this unit a year ago on sale (at a ridiculously low price) and have found it to be just great.It offers everything you might want in a TIVO and DVD player/recorder unit (although it does not HD-record, if that is what you need).It is especially good for those who don't need all the bells and whistles of full TIVO service and who only need the basic TIVO service (which is just fine) WITHOUT A RECURRING MONTHLY CHARGE (that is the great benefit of this unit).
Know what you are buying
Think of this equipment as a space saving unit that will replace your Tivo recorder and DVD recorder/player. But that's it. Giving bad ratings because it's not capable of recording HD, having bad basic Tivo programming capabilities, or not outputting recorded materials to digital audio is like criticizing it for not cooking your dinner. Free basic Tivo service comes with the ALL Tivo recorders (this isn't exclusive to Toshiba machines). Tivo has always offered 3 days advance programming without Season pass and other extra features found in paid service. Think of it as a test drive feature that'll suck you into paying for subscription, which, by the way, is worth it. Tivo Series 2 was never meant to record HD. If you have a standard TV, the recording quality at High setting is perfecly fine (both Tivo and recorded DVD). Yes, you can see digital compression artifacts (especially on large screen HDTVs). If you are looking for recording HD look else where--or Get the Toshiba HD DVD, wait for Tivo Series 3, or get satellite service and pay a lot for HD DVR. BEWARE if you are in Denver/Boulder - no TV Guide listings
I have owned this unit for nearly two years, have called customer support several times (they are friendly and fairly knowledgeable) and have never been able to use TV Guide listings because of an apparent incompatibility with Comcast's signal and this unit. Now, I can "rent" a DVR unit from Comcast that DOES work with their TV Guide signal (a Panasonic even!) but I dislike the idea of getting rid of this unit after investing a decent amount of $$ into it. If it weren't for this major problem, I'd be very happy with the unit.

Great recorder, easy to use
I bought this unit a year ago.I did not want to be tied to yet another monthly charge such as Tivo and I wanted the ability to burn DVDs.This has been a great machine for me.I hooked up my (not-so-old) VCR/DVD combo and transferred home videos to DVD. I can also burn DVDs of shows I want to keep indefinitely, but not take up space on the hard drive- thus I can have the entire season of my favorite shows on DVD, commercial-free once I take the time to edit them.
Totally changed the way I watch TV
I have had this unit for well over a year.It has really changed the way I watch TV.Sometimes I sit down on a Sunday and scan the TV guide for channels I like for the week ahead.The machine records these on the hard drive.At my convenience, I watch the shows.Naturally, I speed through the commercials.Most often, I erase the show after watching.However, it is something I want to save, I either leave it on the huge hard drive or dub it to a disc.I hope the price will come down so that I can buy another one for another room in the house. ... Works only sometimes and then dies
I can't tell you how angry and disappointed I am with this product.I bought it a few months ago to replace my cable operator's equivalent, which also frequently had problems.I thought, "Great! Now I don't have to call the cable service every 2 weeks because of loss of the high def..."It turns out that this product is even worse.I have to reboot it frequently and that loses all the programming.The TV Guide doesn't work very well:There is no clear rhyme or reason to how it groups channels, and it doesn't have the ability to watch one station while recording another, unlike the cable service high def DVR.Now, the hard drive has gone out.I have to send the unit back to Pennsylvania - the only place in the country that repairs these units.I'll have to figure out if I can get the cable company NOT to bill me while I can't get the service while the unit is gone.This really is an awful situation and you can't talk to a person who can make a difference.I used to like Sony.I don't anymore.I'm very sorry I bought this unit and hope they will take it back.

HD Tivo with no monthly fee
I had this unit for about 4 months now.I had problems a few times with TV guide.It was very frustrating.Now I figured out all the problems I had were over the air digital signal problems.I pay $$$ to get a roof top antenna set up and the whole house wired.Now it is perfect.It's like having Tivo and HDTV with no monthly fee to pay.I got 37 digital channels over the air in the washington DC area.It's funny that I used to have hundreds of channels on directTV and often found nothing interesting to watch.Now I always have somthing to catch up on my recorded list.I can usually finish a program in half of the time by skipping commercials.Take the time to read the manual and set up the unit, it is great.

I got one of these for my wife at Christmas 2004.She got me a Denon AVR3805 receiver.Win win I say!
Great! Until the DVD Recorder Died... Twice.
I purchased the Toshiba RS-TX60 last October. That unit arrived with a malfunctioning DVD recorder. About 1 or 2 out of six DVDs would successfully burn. Of the others, some that could not be read by the TiVo unit could be read by my laptop DVD player.

Does not play well with others.
As with other reviewers on this site, I found setup fairly painless, but after the Streamium SL400i was installed I found that it had clobbered several other devices on my system, including my ATI All-in-wonder card and my Roland M-1000 digital line mixer.
Stay away from philips!
I had an earlier model of the philips streamium range ( just over 1 year old) and they are already reducing the range of services for it. This was done without warning, emailed them to find out why and it took 3 weeks to reply, with a very short one line answer!
First generation product; works but lots of small flaws
Having finally converted my 600+ music CDs into MP3s and stored them on the hard drive of my home PC a couple of months ago, I had been looking for an elegant way to link up the PC with my living room hi-fi stack ever since.
