5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I had Dish Network for about a week before going back to cable and the only thing I loved was the DVR service. I toyed with the idea of buying a TiVo for a while and then I finally bit the bullet and did. Holy smokes! This is great. Easy to set up. I have mine connected with the coax in and S video out to my TV set. The TiVo service (if you own the box, like I do) is only $12.95 with a one year minimum. It's worth it. They give you the option to pay outright for 1,2, or 3 years in advance or do the month to month thing. I bought the wireless USB network card (no data drops in my bedroom) and even with a 19% signal strength to the wireless router in my basement on the other side of my house the channel lineup download only took about 10 minutes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tivo is a great addition to standard cable
The dual tuner Tivo is great for standard cable customers. The Tivo can record 2 programs while we watch a pre-recorded program and it allows networking with wired or wireless computers via Tivo Desktop. You should expect to pay about $100/year for the channel guide service.Tivo currently has a 3 years for the price of 2 promotion. This means that 3 years of service cost about $300.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lives Up to the Hype
I have listened to the hype about TIVO for a couple of years now. With the hundred dollar plus rebates on the hardware, as well as substantial discounts on the service, I thought I'd break down and give it a try. Here' my experience...

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Mine only records on DVD-. I tried DVD+ it doesn't read blanks but does play all recorded dvds. It's got your average cheesy remote, and the drop down menu is all uncommon symbol's (refer to manual.) The L.E.D readout tells you how much record time you have left, my cyberhome didn't do that, It gave%. I only had it3 week's but so far it's great With the exception of only being able to do 1 function at a time, For instance if it's recording or playing a DVD you can't set the timer. Otherwise once you get use to it it's easy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for starters.
This is a very basic DVD Recorder. It doesn't have a ton of bells and wistles which is what makes it perfect for beginners. The lack of DVD-ram is upsetting, considering the DR-W4 is only thirty more for many more features, but sometimes less features are nice, the simplicity makes it easy for my entire family to use.You cannot access menu items when discs are finalizing/formatting/or even when shows are recording, which is unfortunate.Otherwise, it is a great starter by a company that makes reliable products.

5-0 out of 5 stars Time to get rid of those VHS tapes
I picked this machine up a few weeks ago, and am most impressed with the ease of operation.Keep in mind it's a BASIC dvd recorder, single layer, dvd-r and dvd-rw, which is compatible with most players out there.I purchased this for the sole purpose of transferring old VHS material onto dvd, and this machine does a great job of that. And the low price of this machine makes it easy for anyone to make the move from VHS to dvd. Finally, I'll be able to get rid of those boxes of tapes.A real bargain. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
This is the machine you have been waiting for.It is so easy to use.It will do almost anything you can imagine in terms of still photography. It is as if you have the best digital compact camera.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well satisfied customer!
I've done my web research and it pointed me to buy the Canon DC40 among other dvd-camcorders in market. It was such an amazing experience using it to capture moments during my nephew's birthday party. The still shots were absolutely fantastic! The video was like no other...it was very clear and sharp. You may want to tweak the settings to get that film look versus the homevideo look on your video shots. Also, tweak the stills settings as well to get that SLR-like shots.I love this product and I highly recommend this to all of you who are planning on purchasing a dvd-camcorder.Cheers! -- Joel Pelayo ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Satisfactory but too slow.
This DVR works ok.But when it is recording, forget about changing channels. It is really really slow and takes like forever to even receive any remote clicks.
3-0 out of 5 stars Can't compete with cable company hardware...
I enjoyed this unit while I had it, but it broke within 6 months and Tivo was not particularly helpful in replacing it.As a result, I have switched to the DVR offered by my cable company.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely The best thing ever
I have owned this tivo since march and I have not had 1 problem. The 80 hours is MORE than enough recording time. Everyone in my family uses this and loves it. The difference between tivo and other dvr's is the software. It is so much better. As you might already know, the TiVo service is great.I've recently upgraded my TiVo to the wireless g internet "always on" connection.I'm programming tv shows on my TiVo at home to record episodes and season passes from the comfort of my cubicle at work. It's really great. Also I'm buying movie tickets at my local theater through TiVo.Oh, and I'm able to keep up with my TiVo programing by downloading my TiVo programs to my home network using the free TiVo Desktop software. They just upgraded to the long awaited 2.3 version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Camera for the Professional Investigator
To my knowlege, there simply isn't a better equipped camera for the professional investigator. It's IR-sensitive mode (nightshot) is in B&W (rather than cheeseygreen), far superior quality-wise to anything Sony's got, and it's the only 3CCD that I know of with a low-light mode. The image stabilization is exceptional and the image quality is production grade.Time/Date stamps can be "burned in" so they xfer via firewire - again, the only camera I'm aware of with this feature. The audio can be turned off which we know is a must. And best yet, you can disable the sleepmode so it won't turn off eliminating missed money shots waiting for the camera to cycle back on.It's built like a tank and feels substantial in the hand, but it's still lightweight thanks to an alloy frame. Finally, it's totally silent even with the tape transport in full swing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Video Quality!
I'm by no means an expert, but I really wanted a reasonably priced video camera that could produce the highest quality picture for the price.I did a TON of research and landed on the AG-DVC30 after much agonizing over "to HD or not HD" as well as brands and features.Based on all the reviews I read, this camera seemed to offer the most features and the best video for the money.I have not been disappointed. On my first outing, I took the cam to the Grand Canyon and Sedona.Wow!What incredible color and clarity!I also really love the 16x zoom. It's smooth and powerful.I got great shots of the Colorado River from the rim of the Grand Canyon.I'll agree with all reviewers that the audio is not great. It is not super sensitive so you lose sound if not quite close to the subject. If you're interested in good audio, I'd suggest an optional mic.If you just want great video, awesome color, and ease of use, this is your camera. At the price (plus the rebate) you really can't beat it.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent product for the price!
A camcorder with features found only on more expensive models and resonably easy to operate by a beginner. The quality of the picture was very good and the zoom operated very smoothly. Overall I felt it was a product that waswell thought out in design and well made. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars No USB Port!
This camcorder can not be used to record direct to your computer or any of the new dvd recorders. You have to record first to video tape then be able to connect your VCR to a dvd recording device.Very disappointed. How hard can it be for Sony to add the USB port?Even my $100 digital camera has a USB port.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good enough.
This is your basic video camera. I'd say it's good for those who just need a video camera for occassional video recording. It has the basic features, with NightShot as an additional bonus. The picture quality isn't as great as I thought it would be (it's a bit grainy on my 36" WEGA), it doesn't record in stereo, and I wish it could hook up on my computer, but there's no USB port. I guess for the price you pay, it's expected. I'd recommend it if you're not really looking for something too hi-tech. I wish I could've gone with something better, maybe the next model up, but hey, it gets the job done.

4-0 out of 5 stars I want to marry this camcorder!
Everything about this camera is amazing to me. I originally read that there is a problem with this model of camcorder with the screen blanking out after 1 or 2 years of use. I haven't seen any signs of that happening so far. I love this. Being a college kid it gets banged up on occasion, but my Sony seems to have held up to the challenge.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good addition to my home theater, but unfortuately cannot replace my current players
Have had this machine for a few days now. In general, very happy with the features and the price. Setup was fast and simple. Thanks to the other owners who left comment here, I hooked it up to an existing network with a wire before I started doing any setup. The whole setup process took just a few minutes and I didn't even look at the instruction manual, just answered a few questions on the screen and it is completed successfully. The program guide got downloaded in just a few minutes, faster than I could get the remote programmed to control my TV.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Features But Marginal TV Video Quality
As a DVR, the LRM-519 delivers below par live and recorded tv video quality. Its output is comparable to a vhs recording even at its best recording mode. As a DVD and CD player, its output is vivid and clear.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'd say get it!
I had been looking at this particular model on the LG site before seeing it on amazon but I was not ready to part with the $500+.I have owned refurbished devices before so that does not concern me.Most of the time in cases like that though you are likely to get only a 15 or 20% discount. To save 50% here is a deal to good too pass up.The package came very quickly and appreared brand new.In a matter of 15 minutes I had the device set up and was watching and recording TV.I already have an ethernet jack behind my TV so that obviously saved time. The guide was loaded in under 5 minutes. So far I have tried all funtions except for the networking but I don't expect an issue.LG is a good brand.I also have a 17" flat panel monitor that I love. This device will pay for itself when you factor in no fees for the guide and the DVD burner included.I'd say get it! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars terrible
We bought this for archiving videos from a video camera. The interface is just horrible and just not well thought out.The owner's manual is poorly written.Half the time the player spits the empty DVD out saying "disc full" without having archived anything.
1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy ANYTHING made by Philips!!!
If you are thinking about buying a Philips product....THINK AGAIN. Their products are TERRIBLE, and their customer service and policies are even WORSE.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good When Timer Settings Not Erased
I have owned the Philips HDRW720 DVR for about 2 years now. When it is working, I really enjoy it.I can record video regularly, edit them, save them to DVD, and delete them. This includes home videos that can be transferred to the hard drive via the input jacks.

4-0 out of 5 stars High quality solid state portable video recorder!
I took this camera along on a week long trip to Florida.I never lost a charge and made over 1.5 Gbs of content with this camera. The video camera is not an SLR.Please do not expect professional quality images from this camera. However if you want to shot video, this is the camera for you.Buy a 1Gb memory card and start shooting your favorite family moments.I suggest using the 640x480 mode so that your video is DVD quality.
3-0 out of 5 stars Very Compact & Light
I just started using my camera yesterday and my first impression is that this thing seems very fragile.Hope I don't drop it, as it might not survive the fall.It is extremely small, light and compact.Think of two packs of cigarettes or two packs of playing cards. It is that small.Great for travel due to the light weight and compactness.Got it for about $90 on sale; would hate to pay more than that for it. Very easy to operate, but if you have big hands, this will be too small for you.Be warned that it won't take more than a couple minutes of video without a memory card, so you'll have to put a little more money into it if you really want to do video or really much of anything. The first video I took came out pretty decent, but it was in good light.I tried some still shots inside at night and they came out very dark in spite of the flash. The flash doesn't seem adequate, so this is probably a camera best used outdoors or in the daytime.Great camera for a kid. This is a good camera for small hands and a great size for kids.If they break it or lose it, you aren't out a bundle. As another reviewer pointed out, it does only take video in the ASF format; not MPEG, as the advertising suggests.I think MPEG might be just music files.I didn't need to install the software to capture the pictures or movies on my computer (Windows XP).Another great thing is that this is a complete package. It has the camera, a carrying strap, a carrying case, USB cable, TV cables, headphones, battery, battery charger and software. It does not come with a lens cap and the cap is not available either. You can buy an optional tripod for it and with the small size, I think that could be useful in some situations to help hold and stabilize the camera.I am not sure how you store music on it; I probably won't use that feature, but it seems like it would be a nice compact music player; again you'll need a memory card to save much of anything on it.One problem I had so far.The memory card (which you have to buy separately--a standard SD card) slips in the bottom under a little rubber membrane. The first time I held the camera I accidentally popped out the card and lost the shots I was trying to take. This might be a problem and I am thinking I may have to put a piece of heavy tape over the bottom to hold the membrane and memory chip in place and prevent ejecting the memory again.Another downside that I see is the battery. You can't just pick up some spare batteries at the corner store and pop them in.You have to use the special rechargeable battery. If you don't have a spare one charged up, your camera will go dead and you'll have to wait until you can plug in the charger and recharge the battery. That's another $20 for a spare battery. My digital camera uses standard AA batteries, so I can use either rechargeables or regular batteries. If this camera used regular batteries, it would make it larger and heavier, so the small rechargeable does help on the weight and size.Don't buy this if you are a serious photographer.Buy it for occasional use, for easy portability and as a first camera to learn on.Controls are easy and straightforward.Nice camera for the money, but not for serious photographers. It does a lot for a tiny little thing; sure doesn't make me want to go back to the days of huge video cameras that you had to hold on your shoulder, due to the weight.Minaturization can go too far and this is about as small as I would ever want to go; might be easier to use if it was just a tiny bit bigger.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
After about 2 months of light use, the camera stopped working. Also, the output format was very difficult to work with. Absolutely will not work on a Mac. The price is coming down greatly...I saw it for $88 at Target. ... Read more

Record your home movies and your favorite TV programs easily to DVD disc with the Panasonic DMR-ES20 progressive scan recorder/player, which can record to write-once DVD+R and DVD-R media or rewritable DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs (the latter being a great choice for temporary storage of recorded material as it can be rewritten more than DVD-RW). Purchased the unit and went to play a childrens DVD and it will not play because the ratings setting will not alow it to play.Attempted to change the ratings setting and was prompted for a password.Have never setup a password and the manual does not list a factory preset password.Turns out the ratings setting will not alow ANY DVDs to play. This is junk!Do not buy.How can I unlock this stupid machine?

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke down in six months
I am very disappointed with this product and Panasonic. The dvd recorder is barely used since we bought it in February 2006. A week ago when I tried to finalise a dvd+r it just froze, after trying to reset the dvd recorder I received a split screen on TV. Now the recorder does not recognize any dvd format other than the dvd-rom and does not record on anything. We will have to take it for repair. Hopefully it will work again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Upgrading to this DVD recorder was...a good thing ;-)
Being that the video tape I used with my old VCR would only last about 4 months, I ended up choosing to upgrade to this Panasonic DVD recorder. For me, its biggest selling point was the ability to used cartridge-based DVD-RAM discs with it...which I just TOTALLY love!!And why wouldn't I? Because the discs are sealed inside cartridges, they'll never get dust, scratches or stuff like fingerprints on them, and last...100,000 times???!!! WOAH!!! I don't think they'll EVER wear out!! They're totally goof-proof!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product!
I used this Tivo for almost a year until I had to switch to HD. It works perfectly. It can transfer files to your PC, it can burn them to DVD's (depending on quality 1-2 hrs worth), and it never misses a show. Great!

2-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a good idea - but maybe not.
I purchased one of these units as my first foray into the TiVo world when my 15 year-old VCR started to die.I figured 40 hours seemed like a lot of TV to watch, and if I managed to get close to filling it I could download video to a DVD-RW and use those just like I used to use video tapes.
1-0 out of 5 stars Humax TiVo DVD R fails to work
After analyzing the differences between Comcast DVR and TiVo, we decided a TiVo purchase would be best. And since we have a lot of VHS tapes that we want to save, the combo DVD-R was a great feature.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk!!
I stongly suggest to anyone that plans on purchasing a prodcut from HUMAX to think again! My wife purchsed me one and we have had nothing but problems with the company and its DVR.Our first DVR froze on a screen druring set up.So they set us a second one to replace the broken one.As we used it for a day, the second machine did the same, freezing at different spots.Trying to reset the machine as instructed, it did not work.So they sent us a third.Well, guess what, the third is also freezing. Now three weeks into waiting for the fourth, still no dvr.The company simply needs to get their act together and fix the problem. The customer service was nice, but they are a subbed out company that realy can't help me with my problems just try to rectify it by sending me another and REQUESTING assistance. You do not have direct contact with the company and there for can not help you and simply request by email to Humax for additional help. Please do not buy a product from HUMAX, it will save you time, frustration and stress!!

5-0 out of 5 stars no problem and perform as expect
My friend didn't want to pay the tivo monthly fee ($12.95) so he gave me the unit. I have used this product for over 2 months now with the TIVO monthly subscription. It has expanded my TV viewing from the normal main channels: ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CNN, and ESPN, to include many more channels: Oxygen, Comedy Central, AZN, Bravo, History, Food Network, and many more. Tivo allows me to set my wishlist and it searches the programs that fit the list.

2-0 out of 5 stars I'd rather have a separate DVR and DVD-R
Sure, this does what it says, it just doesn't do it with any sense of style.Mainly, the interface on this thing is terrible! I think for a simple setup (TV and this device)this would work fine, but for anything advanced, this isn't the device you want.
2-0 out of 5 stars Designed to last... one year
I have the previous model RD-XS32, and was very satisfied with it until, like magic, it started malfunctioning right after its first birthday. Now, even after repeated cleanings, it fails to read many of the DVDs it created, and getting it to create a usable new DVD is nearly impossible. This is very disappointing because I'm running out of brands whose products DON'T poop out after one year of use...I have always thought those extended warranties were useless but I'm beginning to wonder whether or not it's necessary protection these days.

so i get my camera and first off they basically lie because they act like you have a lot of memory on it to start off but you dont. Then after a week it just stops working.dont get it, theres no flash whatsoever

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it....
Hi, I bought this camera and installed the driver from both the CD and then the web.It caused my computer (a good, modern, fast computer) to crash both times. The camera worked without interfacing with the computer, but, then, what's the point? Also, the pictures and movies were VERY grainy and low quality. The tech support when I had these problems was HORRIBLE.They really didn't stand behind the product AT ALL and to me that's the most important thing!Maybe I could have gotten it to work, but not without SOME input from Aiptek.

it's a very good price, cheap we could say. And the features are kind of interesting. Cool desing and light weight too...But you can't predict how long it will last. It's avery "fragile" camera and still the software doesn't work even after downloading it from the site. I recommand to spend more and get a better camera! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Too bad it doesn't work & JVC service doesn't
I researched and compared over a dozen minidv camcorders, and based on function and picture and price, this item was the far winner. And if JVC ever fixes it, I'll give another review; I've had it for four months, and I haven't been able to use it yet. It was broken from day 1, and I had to send it to their service center. They changed some parts and sent it back but must not have tested it because it had the same problem. I sent it to the service center again with an even more detailed note about the problem, and I got it back again today and it still has the original problem. I'm convinced that JVC doesn't QA the repairs that they perform.

1-0 out of 5 stars Design Flaw
This camera has a design flaw. The integrated microphone does NOT shut off when you use an auxilary microphone. It says in the manual that it is supposed to. I sent it back to JVC many times, and the service personal compensated me by disconnecting the internal microphone permanently.
5-0 out of 5 stars Try actually owning the camera...
So you reviewed this camera based on the reviews that 3 other people gave to a different model?I'm giving 5 stars just offset your stupidity.

5-0 out of 5 stars MASSIVE 3-INCH LCD SCREEN IS AWESOME!!!
Whenever I hand my camera over to someone to take a picture, I have to explain the 2-stage shutter. With this camera, I can simply hand it to them and tell them to take the shot. The touch sensor does all of the labor. With the slightest touch of their finger, it starts stage one. A little small press and presto the pic is taken.
