Simplify your home theater as you boost its processing abilities and audio power with Denon's AVR-985S. The audio/video receiver provides 7 channels of amplification to drive all the primary speakers in a 7.1 surround sound system (front left, center, and right speakers, left/right side speakers, and left/right surround speakers, along with a ".1" low-frequency effects channel for a subwoofer). It's perfectly compatible with 5.1 and 6.1 speaker configurations. Use it as a surround-processing preamplifier with stand-alone power amps or enjoy the receiver's 100 watts per channel amplifier (into 8 ohms from 20 to 20,000 Hz with no more than .05 percent THD), which features high-current, discrete output devices for all channels.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New to surround sound
This was my first purchase of a surround sound system.I did a bit of research before deciding on the Denon AVR-985S and am quite pleased with the result. The build quality is excellent and the system is extremely flexible.Flexibility of course can make the setup more daunting. The auto-setup feature where you place a microphone (included in the package) at your most frequent listening position and press start makes the speaker set-up (a time consuming experience and then you're never sure you have it optimized) a piece of cake. That said however if you are just looking for a system you plug in and it works, this is not the system for you.It takes time and patience to hook different brands of equipment together and have them function as expected.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
I've been buying SONY products for 30 years and I've never been as disappointed as I am with this product of theirs.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT buy - awsome sound - low price!
When I got this receiver, I taught it might sound real bad since i only had two bookshelf speakers. I was very wrong when this receiver delivered full bass and tremble to my Extended Defenicion Sony Speakers. After about 2 months I got a Subwoofer which was incredible! The sound was as if it wascoming out of the speakers! The bass was smooth and realistic, not punchy. After that I got a Super Audio CD Player from Sony and with my two bookshelf speakers on both sides of me, the sound was going around the room from my Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon 30 Anniversary Edition SACD. I must say the tremble is much more clear than I taught it would be. Only complaint is that in the summer, it gets a little hot when you use it for more than an hour at a time but that is no big deal to me.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's not top of the line, but you get a great deal for your money

This is a good mp3 player i dont know what the two reviews are so negative about it. It works just like a ipod it organizes your songs just like a ipod. The radio is good too it gets this station in that is always hard to get in. But i only payed 30.00 dollars for it at target so i really cant complain. The only thing i dont like about it is that it has bad battery life. I guess i understand if you played retail for it. It is a good mp3 player but not worth $120.00

5-0 out of 5 stars The magic glove for your ONKYO receivers.
This glove is wonderfully static-proof.If you just use your hand to adjust the settings of your receiver, the sound quality will be reduced due to the static inherent in human body. But using this high quality glove, all unnecessary statics are removed wonderingfully.Try it, you won't regret. The sound comes out of the speakers like you have never heard before.Worthly every penny!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite a buy for the money
I bought this receiver because I'm separating my audio only system from my home theatre setup. The Kenwood performs flawlessly. The test tones do output properly once you set up the speaker configuration properly. The slim profile makes for attractive installation options and despite the full 6.1 capability, the virtual surround mode can provide some of the surround experience with fewer (2) speakers. You can even assign the two digital inputs, flexibility usually not found in units at this price. One small bugaboo - the remote, while programmable, allows only certain devices on certain inputs.Video 1 can only be a VCR (since it has A/V in and out) but I have a combination DVD / hard disk recorder and the remote can't accept the unit's device code for Video 1 (but it's OK for Video 2).Small thing (and the manual covers it) and wouldn't stop me from recommending it.I'm not a gamer so the unit's ability to auto detect and configure games is not important, but the front panel A/V inputs allow input for a camera or other device. There is an audio only Aux input (that can have one of the digital inputs assigned to it) and I have my Apple AirPort optical output plugged in there and it sounds great. For a tweak over two hundred from Amazon this thing's a real bargain. Get a set of Orb speakers and their Super 8 sub and you'll be in heaven.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great receiver unfairly criticized
I am a custom A/V installer in Philadelphia. The only review I could find for this before I bought it was one from a kid who obviously didn't know how to hook it up (the test tone does not output at the subwoofer jack, but the sub-out works fine,)so I took a chance. This receiver is a steal, guys. Its thin, easy to read, doesn't get hot, has Dolby Headphone and Dolby Virtual Speaker. Bottom line- I've installed HUNDREDS of surround sound receivers, and this is by far the best budget receiver I've seen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyers Be Aware
I bought this receiver due to its features and slim size. I have fixed entertainment center and fitting most receivers is very tight. Unfortunately, the only thing I got out of this Kenwood VRS-7100 was the slim size which was a real convenient. This is what I experienced with this model:

Editorial Review

You’ll find very little differentiation between most entry-level home theater receivers: passable performance, negligible processing capabilities and little (if any) versatility. The TX-SR304 5.1-channel home theater receiver doesn’t follow that well-trodden path. By giving you the connections to the A/V components on everyone’s lips today—HDTVs, digital video recorders, gaming consoles, etc—the TX-SR304 wants to broaden your entertainment possibilities, not limit them to basic DVD and CD playback. Naturally, you’ll want the audio quality associated with the Onkyo name. That’s why we’ve included the circuitry and quality parts found in other Onkyo home theater receivers: Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, a 32-bit DSP chip, and an H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) transformer. Finally, keeping in line with what’s really important, the TX-SR304 provides a user-friendly, accessible solution to home entertainment. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Receiver
I bought this off of ebay for a [...] bucks. No fade in sound only complaints from my neighbors. I listen to rap and all my friends say, that is one clear sounding system. Have it hooked up using 5.1 for DVD's and its great. Recently hooked up my 360 and wow, what a gaming experience. This receiver has been nothing but great for me. Play with the settings and watch it go from flat to bassy. I bump this thing everyday with sub and no bass on the front speakers and it is loud. I had the bass up at my old apt and boy did I shake the walls. GET IT, don't be fooled by those with problems. And I ran my component and S-video cables through the receiver and it strengthed the picture that was already pretty damn sharp. I have 32 flat screen and running your video cables through the receiver only improves the picture, trust me. Did I mention I've had this thing for lets see 1.5 years and will continue to use it for another 3-4. And its digital so low heat and low power consumption.

I am replacing it today with an Onkyo receiver. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Mid-Range Receiver yet
I've owned old stereo receivers and I've owned very High-End receivers and this one is the best Mid-End one yet. The system has all the bells and whistles that you'd ever need for a Mid-Range Receiver. I've hooked it up 5.1 and it's great it even comes with a mic that sets up your speaker levels for you. If you're still not satisfied with how they're set up it still allows you to tweak the speaker levels yourself i.e. Speaker size, LFE and Sub Cross-Over etc. Lots of audio selections for getting the right sound when listening to music, movies or even television. The video up scaling feature is a bonus as well. When I contacted Denon about the remote they got back to me within seconds of sending my email, great friendly service. I'm impressed compared to other audio companies I've dealt with.
1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made, electronic or not.The Dolby Digital 7.1 is anything but; you are lucky to get 3.1.The rear surround speakers don't work unless you invoke junky old Pro-Logic.Heck, if I wanted Pro-Logic, I could have spent $50 for some ancient receiver with that 80s technology.

Editorial Review

The Panasonic CQ-C8300U MOS-FET high-power, in-car amplifier/CD player (50W x 4 channels) delivers pure signal output by minimizing crossover distortion during current-to-voltage conversion of the signal from the preamp stage. What does this mean? Benefits are apparent in an excellent high-range signal-to-noise ratio, reflecting minimal treble noise. The result is highly faithful sound reproduction with expressive musical detail. This unit also features a subwoofer pre-amp output, enabling you to send music through an external amplifier for a booming sound.Read more
