4-0 out of 5 stars Good name, good quality, good features & great price!
Best unit by far for the money I could find. Great selection of input and outputs, but instructionscould be better at explaining good better and best way to connect system for the novice. I question the lack of amplification for a subwoofer. It has a pre-amp output requiring a powered subwoofer. But then a switched power outlet to would make that less of an inconvenience. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars BELOW WAY OFF BASE!
Yes, Ill admit this is not the strongest receiver at the gym but What's written below shows no understanding of amplifier power, specs, or the ability to " do the job".Unless you play movies and Cd's at literally eardrum splitting volume the Panasonic has all the power you'll ever need in a home theater setting with " average" speakers. To say that the receiver cuts out at 40hz is just plain ignorant.I will admit that the specs are a result of the marketing director pushing for " 100 watts per channel", but this receiver does put out a clean 60 watts of 20-20-000hz of power.
3-0 out of 5 stars What you'd expect.....
I had been powering my Polk rti-12 and rti-10 loudspeakers with 2 biamped SA-HE75 receivers for about a year, until I got my HK AVR-240s. Over that year I encountered no real problems, other than the lack of power.(Hence the biamping) I don't recommend this Panasonic for anything larger than very small floorstanding speakers with only mid/high frequency requirements. Bookshelf speakers or satellites would be perfectly fine.(There's a subwoofer-out anyway)

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good for the money
I have an 8 year old Marantz reciever- and although this does not have the power of that reciever, for the money this ONKYO offers excellent sound and quality. It offers basic features for old audiophiles like myself, without breaking the bank. Very recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for simple 2.0 or 2.1 sound
I picked the Onkyo TX-8011 up to replace an old 25w/channel JVC I'd used for years. I wanted the remote and a little more power for my Mission 70 bookshelf speakers in the bedroom. The Onkyo's sound is crisp and precise, which is to my liking. The phono jack gives me the option of hooking up my turntable if I feel inspired to play any vinyl. The Mission's 5" woofers weren't putting out bass to my liking, so I hooked up a Yamaha YST-SW215 150w powered sub woofer to top off the system (note that the Onkyo TX-8011 does not have a sub woofer output, so you'll need to buy a sub like the Yamaha that has a speaker line input if you choose to go the sub woofer route.) Bottom line: The Onkyo combined with the Mission bookshelf speakers and the Yamaha sub-woofer provide suberb sound, and I got the whole thing wired in about 15-20 minutes. It's a lot more than I ever thought I'd use in the bedroom (it's hooked up to the TV and DVD player), but find myself popping CD's into the DVD player just to listen to the great blend of trebles, mids and lows from this powerful little system. The 50w/channel Onkyo delivers great sound for a bedroom or apartment, as long as you are OK with staying with two channels. While I chose to add a sub woofer, I think the Onkyo could have driven larger speakers with 8" woofers quite satisfactorily. Strongly recommended, as is the Yamaha sub-woofer as an add-on if you are using bookshelf speakers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Onkyo TX-8011, Great low-end stereo receiver
I don't have a room that can be easily set up for surround sound, so stereo is adequate for me. I wanted a relatively simple stereo receiver with remote to replace my 23-year-old MCS unit.

Editorial Review

Not everyone wants or needs a single feature-loaded surround receiver, which is where the AudioSource Amp One/A 160-watt stereo amplifier comes into play. A favorite of audiophiles everywhere, the device is built to deliver powerful music, pure and simple, with few gratuitous extra controls to get in the way. Listeners can use the Amp One/A as an independent stereo amp (80 watts x 2) when used with a preamp, or as an adjunct amp for a low-powered surround receiver with preamp outputs (it delivers 200 watts of mono power). Combine the Amp One/A with an additional monoblock amp and a preamp and listeners can powerfully drive two front left/right speakers or two rear speakers, further clarifying each channel to create dynamic, high-end sound. To connect additional components to the amp, use the included line-in jacks (for connecting to a source such as a receiver, CD player, or preamplifier) or the line-out/thru jacks (for creating a multi-amp setup). It's also simple to switch between stereo and mono modes thanks to the bridging switch.Read more

Features

  • 160-watt stereo amp (80 watts x 2) with switchable 200-watt mono option
  • Line-in jacks connect to such sources as receivers, CD players, or preamplifiers
  • Line-out/thru jacks for creating powerful multi-amp setup; requires preamp
  • 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and total harmonic distortion of 0.04 percent
  • Measures 16.5 x 2.38 x 11.62 inches (W x H x D); 2-year warranty

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and sound; one of the best deals in amps!
I have been an audiophile since I was a teen (over 20 years), having owned some truly high end amplifiers like Bryston, Audio Research, and currently in my main system, a McIntosh MC162.All phenomenal amps.I also happen to own an AudioSource AmpTwo and an AmpOne, both superb amps for the money. The only difference with the AmpTwo, is that it has left and right channel lit VU meters that measure watts output and 'headroom' in db units.Very cool indeed!Other than this, the AmpOne is identical to the AmpTwo.The AmpOne is set up in my home office connected to higher end equipment like Parasound and a Denon HDCD player. My speakers are the very venerable and respected bookshelf horn speakers, the JBL HLS-610, which is very well balanced and revealing of source material and equipment. And lastly, I run fairly expensive 'StraightWire' interconnect cables between my components. That said, I have been blown away by the quality and neutral sound of thisamplifier! The amp sounds detailed, accurate, warm, sweet, and powerful - attributes usually found in more expensive high end amplifiers as mentioned above, usually costing thousands of dollars!Quite an amazing feat for this solid little affordable AudioSource that satisfies even high demand audiophile ears like mine. Moreover, I have tested the AmpOne and AmpTwo while driving difficult power hungry loads, such as Magneplanar 4 ohm speakers, and they performed beyond my expectations.Kudos to AudioSource for providing one of the truly 'best bang for the buck' deals in stereo amplification out there!I highly, HIGHLY recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY good amp for the money
very flat sounding. i'm tired of people comparing other amps and thinking they are better for one reason or another.. but thats consumer audio for you... the goal should be to have flat sound that is as true to the origional recording as possible.5-0 out of 5 stars AudioSource Amp One/A - great value and quality!
I bought 2 AudioSource Amp One/A's and am running them as monoblocks to drive my front L/R speakers. The difference in sound quality over my Marantz SR-5300 (brand new) is quite stunning. The sound stage sounds much wider and deeper, and even the most delicate note can be clearly heard.I'm using the Marantz as a preamp to drive the AudioSource amps, BTW.With the AS's taking the load of the front speakers, the Marantz's dynamics and clarity have also improved dramatically with multi-channel recordings since it's now only handling the center and surround speakers.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Prety good unit
I got this receiver and boombox as a christmas gift.I can not receive reception in my house (possably from being built in the 40's and is all true plaster walls) in the car it works pretty good.hard to read display at times, unit gets hot when on, at times the FM transmitter dosent send a strong signal.as with all FM transmitters, some sound quality is lost in the transmission, but not too bad.I use the supplied antenna for the satalite inside my car on the dash.I didnt see the need in running wires for a unit that can move from car to car with ease.
1-0 out of 5 stars STAY AWAY FROM XACT!!!!!
I am going on my 3rd radio since November 3rd, 2005. I could not get anywhere with XACT so I went to the Better Business Bureau and a few days later I got a call from some customer service chick who had an attitude. I had to pay to send the radio back, when the replacement came guess what?....It was broken, no audio. I went back to the BBB and today I got a call from XACT and they won't refund my money but they want to send me an XTR2. Why would I want another crappy radio?
2-0 out of 5 stars Not The Best Nor Safest Equipment
I wish I had read reviews about this equipment before buying it, but when I signed up for Sirius, this was the main equipment for sale.It has worked OK up until last week when I was driving along listening and starting smelling plastic burning and the unit stopped working.Earlier, my cigarette lighter/power plug in the front of my car stopped working altogether which I now realize is due to the XACT car charger having somehow destroyed the cigarette lighter/power plug; I checked to see if the fuse had just blown, but the fuse is fine and now I can't even get my cell phone charger to work in the cigarette lighter/power plug. The XACT receiver unit heats up tremendously and will sometimes "freeze up" during a broadcast so that I have to turn it off and then on again to "reboot" the receiver so that I can keep listening to Sirius. The car charger always got hot, but it wasn't until it actually destroyed my cigarette lighter/power plug that I realize the XACT car charger is a hazard to using in your car.I have a Subaru Forester with the cigarette lighter/power plug up front and a second power plug in the back, so after the front cigarette lighter/power plug stopped working, I plugged the XACT car charger into the back power plug and that is where the XACT car charger actually fried itself.Fortunately, it didn't also destroy that second power plug in the back of my Subaru. So, now the XACT car charger does not work at all and it has an obvious burnt plastic smell to it.I guess I'll have to contact XACT to get the car charger replaced on warranty.I also bought the XACT Boom Box that this receiver plugs into and that works great. Its also good that the XACT Receiver unit didn't fry when the XACT car charger did because at least I can listen to Sirius at home on my XACT Boom Box.I don't know if I want to risk using this piece of equipment in my car again, because it is already going to cost me to have that cigarette lighter/power plug repaired that the XACT car charger destroyed.Thank goodness that this XACT car charger did not cause an electrical fire; at least it burnt itself out before causing any further damage. The bottom line on this review is I would recommend against the

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value if you're clear on its limitations
I bought this inexpensive little player for playing podcasts in my car (through a $7.95 cassette-drive adapter). Works really well for that purpose. I agree with other reviewers that the earbuds are horrible, but since I don't use them, no problem. Putting the podcast files on it is easy in USB-key mode, drag and drop.
1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS MP3 PLAYER!
This was my 2nd mp3 player (my first was the rio s10, which broke) and right when i opened it from the box the top button was screwed up it could only go one way it was SOOOOO annoying! Then about a month later it was so screwed up that it would freeze, turn off, and make the song sound weird! I threw this peice of trash away and got a Buslink MP3-SK 256 MB player which is way better! I love it! It has a built in loud speaker so i dont have to use those annoying earbuds! So i deffinatly recomend the buslink one over this stupid one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome receiver
I bought this to replace a Sony receiver that was on the fritz. There is no comparison between Sony and Yamaha. The sound quality of this unit is very impressive.I can't think of anything negative to say about it.The auto setup feature works very well. The XM function couldn't be easier to use.The AM/FM tuner is good. The only thing this receiver lacks, in my opinion, is HDMI switching. That remains a much more expensive feature. There have been problems with HDMI switching on many receivers anyway.(HDCP copy protection.) ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Caution getting into Denon because of parts availability
As a caveat to prospective shoppers of what is one of the high end and costlier brands.Denon had me on a merry chase to get a remote control for an audio product. They have outsourced the parts department to Hermann's in Florida."Sorry sir, your item is discontinued, you would need to buy the whole receiver to get the compatible remote for your deck." Huh? This has a baloney flavor to me that I really do not like. Their HQ didnt seem to know much, frankly. My suggestion is to check out the high end models from Pioneer, Sony and JVC. They make accessories and parts avaiable directly and easily from the company. And no baloney. This is a competitive market and there are goodies aplenty such as inputs and outputs and circuitry goodies to shop for. (Unless the cachet factor is vital to you. In which event, good luck and don't forget the B and W speakers from UK.) Good luck and aloha. Gerry

5-0 out of 5 stars A fine piece of high quality audio hardware.
I had actually been searching for a different piece of Denon audio hardware when I ran across this rather new Amazon listing for the Denon DRA-685 receiver, which has been a key component in my "main" audio system for nearly two years now. It is certainly a "keeper," and a receiver whose capabilties and features one can "grow into" over time. A few of the features are quite unique, and I have yet to exploit them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pre-amp output + Inexpensive!
I have wonderful older Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers that need really high-current, clean amplification. So, I have a Hafler amp and Hafler preamp that have always sounded fantastic. Then, my preamp died :-(, so I looked around the store for a cheap replacement.I found this Denon-295 that has preamp output plus a switched AC receptacle. So, I plugged in my old Hafler amp.The Denon switches the Hafler on, and voila, great sound once again!I'm quite pleased with the receiver, especially b/c it didn't cost an arm+leg! ...
