STR-DE685
The Sony STR-DE685 is a fine receiver for the money.Lots of bells and whistles.Be careful, because it has a great THD rating in stereo, but only so-so with all 5 channels driven.Other companies do the same thing.I really like the features and the remote is probably the best in the business, despite the fact that the keys are small.All in all I liked it so much that when it came time to buy a second one, I bought a STR-DE985, which is similar, but with better specs.

I have had this reveiver for three months now and love it.I am very pleased and have not had the audio delay problem mentioned in the other review.I would highly recommend this product.Nice versitility - Tons of bells and whistles.

Will be great in about a year when they upgrade the firmware.
I use Rhapsody To Go, that way, I can download all the music I want for $15 a month. This works perfectly with this device. However, here are the main concerns I have:

I guess it's pretty good, I would give it 3.5 stars, actually.
A pretty good MP3 player
Before this, I owned an IPod, and it worked pretty well for me.The battery eventually died for good and I didn't want to get it replaced, so I got this for Christmas.The GoGear is a pretty good MP3 player, with great sound (it even comes with pretty good earbuds) and a slick way to navigate menus.

Ready or not, sell it!
This is without a doubt, the most poorly conceived, ridiculously designed, sloppily manufactured product of it's kind on the market.Everything about it is just plain wrong!First the media server software does not run as a windows service, so you have to go to your media center PC and log into an account, then since it wasn't running as a service, it delays the loading of your account every time you log in as it synchronizes.It only allows five directories and will not search subdirectories so if you organize your music orpictures in any way, you can't get to them all.You wouldn't believe how you have to enter the WEP key if your network is secure.One character at a time on this goofy little on screen keyboard and then WEP does not work on it.Total waste of time, money and HP's reputation.It's foul, heinious and smells really bad.

Bought this with the idea of showing pictures stored on the computer on the TV -- and listing to music on the computer thru my sound system. Poor User Interface Design
This is a great idea.Unfortunately, the HP people forgot to give any thought to how people might actually use this thing and ended designing something that has all the problems of computers (crashes and poor interface) with the worst parts of traditional receivers (inflexibility and inability to customize).The biggest problem I have with this is that it is very slow to respond to button presses.This is especially evident when trying to get it to shuffle or repeat playlists.You push the button, no response.An hourglass would have been nice, just so you know that it's at least trying to do what you asked it to do.Even a beep from the player would've been nice.Read more

"Elegant, Understated, Smooth"a "True Musical Instrument"

I purchased this amp/receiver about a month ago and had it hooked up the night it arrived. The setup is kind of confusing at first but once you figure it out (what the manual is saying) it isn't too much trouble. I am a big believer in amps over watts because you can create high watts with low amps and hence no sound but if you reverse the order; high amps and low watts the neighbors come a knocking. I also like to be able to "feel" my sound ie. the rumble of a tornado in the movie Twister. This receiver does/has all of this and more.The one con I have for this receiver is that it is short of inputs by 2. 1 is phono which I don't listen to alot so it wasn't a big con. The 2nd missing input is one for my satelite which has digital outputs which would have been nice to hook up but this was overcome by entering through the VCR. Oh well can't have everything on a buget. Overall this is one of the best AVR's I have seen for the price. If you like the artificial sound stages of other systems then don't buy this AVR but if you want the sound that came with the DVD, CD or Tape then this one is for you. Before you jump on the �Deal of the century" Read On...
I have owned the Kenwood VR- 6060 for about 6 months now. . I was a very proud new owner when I bought this unit, but little by little I have become disenchanted with my 6060. The VR6060 is one step below the VR-6070. The only difference mainly being the THX sticker on the front panel of the VR6070. Excellent Price for a THX Select Receiver
Yes it is true.While other brands are asking up to 1K+ (even 2k+) for a THX Select Certified receiver, Kenwood offers this new product for around [amount].Are there compromises? Of course, but are those compromises important? - NOT AT ALL.This receiver is Dolby Digital EX, DTS NEO, THX EX and Prologic II and Circle surround.They didn't left anything out. Has 6 outputs/ 100w/each.Has three optical and coaxial inputs, may control room B speakers (same source), has a nice although funky-looking multi-funtion RF (yes RF! AND IR to control other devices) remote control and is energy-star compliant.The compromises; well it has no OSD (On Screen Display), the remote control forces you to select the device to be controlled (well this is a real pain) and... Hah! those are the only compromises.Today Dolby Digital performance is well executed even in $[amount] receivers. But DTS ES AND THX EX... Never worked
Purchased in May '05.Worked for one day, then simply stopped working.I took it to my local JVC Authorized repair center, but after 4 months, they were still unable to get the unit working.Their claim was that they had to continuously order parts again and again, but nothing ever worked.
An excellent product
This JVC receiver delivers great performance for not much cash,full rich sound and snappy styling.

I bought this receiver on the advice of some audiophile discussion groups. This receiver is highly sought after in these groups. I am extremely happy with the surround and two channel sound right out of the box. The unit looks great, only runs slightly warm and is easy to use. The NEO6 processing sounds great with older stereo recordings. The only complaint I would have about this receiver would be the spring terminals for the speaker wires. It would have been much nicer to have binding posts or banana jacks. All in all with what I paid for this receiver ($169 on sale at Amazon) I cannot complain. I have since reccomended this receiver to several folks at work.

poorly functioning machine
I have had this unit for about 7 months now and it has not functioned right the whole time. I got it from WOOT and everything I have gotten there has not worked right. Maybe that's it. The Omnifi company just sends me back to WOOT and seems to have no interest in this dud of a machine. It likes to just stop at times, has to be rebooted often to function at all.

GREAT, GREAT! Installs without essential problems, can work with Rhapsody and Musicmatch and can play files that you have on your hard drive. Comments: a) SimpleCenter installs without problems. The only catch: to downolad firmware upgrade it is necessary to create account and register. If not done, the "download firmware upgrade" button is disabled (firmware upgrade must be done to use Rhapsody). It seems that this is nowhere documented that account must be created first (if at all), b) when creating account, there is no pop-up saying that registration is complete. Otherwise, no complains. Rhapsody and Musicmatch must have Universal Plug and Play servers activated. When done, both services are displayed on Omnifi screen. Can play albums, playlists and single tracks. Read more
