5-0 out of 5 stars Great reception
Cleveland is lucky to have two public radio stations and one of the nation's oldest and best classical music stations - WCLV. But about ten years ago WCLV moved its transmitter from the east side of Cleveland to the west. The move caused most of us on the east side to have great difficulty hearing WCLV clearly. The solution for me (and many others) has been the GE Superadio III. I needed an external antenna (bought at Radio Shack for about $25) but some have have good results with the telescoping antenna only.
4-0 out of 5 stars Why can't all radios have circuitry this good?
I had heard good things about the GE Super Radio, but didn't really have a need to purchase one till arrogant new ownership took over a local broadcaster and jettisoned most of the public radio programming I enjoyed. I recently discovered that many of these shows are now being carried on WMKV, an ambitious but terribly weak (only 400 watts!) FM public station. So I tried the SuperRadio out, and was delighted when it easily pulled in WMKV's signal - something neither myhome stereo tuner or clock radio could accomplish. I did a little more experimenting and found that the AM reception on this set is astonishing. I'd forgotten how much fun it had been listening to "out of town" stations. The fidelity is also a revelation; the 2-way woofer/tweeter combo made me realize how bad today's average clock or table radio truly is. Since I listen to both music and voice, I prefer the SuperRadio to the CC Crain (which is admittedly equalized for talk-oriented programming).
4-0 out of 5 stars It does one thing right.
It receives and plays mono radio (AM and FM) exceptionally well.It sounds great, with surprisingly good bass.

    Editorial Review

Wake up in style with the Sony ICF-C492 AM/FM clock radio. Outfitted with a jumbo 1.4-inch green LED display, variable brightness control, an analog AM/FM tuner--and yes, a big honkin' snooze bar--this handy companion is sure to get you going in the morning. The space-conscious design is attractive and stylish, with a modern aesthetic that takes up hardly any space on the nightstand. The large display is also a plus, as it makes it easy to tell time from a distance--a particular bonus for people with poor vision. Households with more than one sleeper will appreciate the dual alarm, which allows two separate people to wake at different times without resetting the alarm. And should you need a more abrupt noise than the radio can provide, the ICF-C492 offers both loud and soft buzzer alarms. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars junk
This would be a good versatile clock radio if it had an accurate clock. Amazon exchanged the first unit they sent me because the clock was 6 min fast in one month. The second unit they sent me was only 4 min fast after one month, but still totally unacceptable. Amazon does not want to exchange this second unit because it is over 30 days after purchase. Sony has a similar policy. The moral of the story: Do not buy a Sony and do not buy from Amazon unless you don't mind being stuck with a clock that you have to reset every couple of weeks.

1-0 out of 5 stars Its too fast
I brought this clock considering the lengendary sony trademark. But it turned out to be a complete disappointment. Its gaining hours and I am about to return in today. Well, the display is not so bright. If you are looking for a good bedside alarm clock with radio, please don't go for this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money
I have this clock for three months now. I am very happy and satisfied with it so far. Big and bright disply and easier operation made this clock a good buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars EtonRed Cross Emergency Radio
This radio is poorly built. When you set it down the little door in back opens and the batteries fall out. You put them back in, carefully set it down, then when you pick it back up the little battery door falls open and the batteries fall out again...Now, I put rubber bands around the whole radio to keep the battery door in place....stay away from this particular model unless you have lots of rubber bands...good luck and thanks for the opportunity to write the review...
5-0 out of 5 stars Does Everything You'd Need In A Disaster
I was hesitant to get this, since other reviewers gave it poor ratings on reception. Now that I bought it, I'm very glad I have it.It does all the things you might want in a disaster, inluding a flashlight, red flashing light (especially if your car breaks down at night), a siren (if you're trapped in a building), AC, battery, and crank power, and multiple radio bands. While some reviewers complained of not getting a lot of stations, in a disaster, you only need a few stations, as everyone will be broadcasting disaster news.Between the AM, FM, TV, and NOAA bands, my radio will received a huge number of stations--many more than would ever be needed in a disaster.(I didn't try the cellphone charging function.)It comes in a carrying case.
1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Design for an Emergency Necessity
I will not be sending this item to my frail 85-year old mother in law to help her survive in hurricane alley on the west coast of Florida. It is virtually impossible to open the battery case cover to assemble the rechargeable battery connection for this radio. Most folks would buy this and store it until needed and so would not know in advance that they cannot access the battery compartment. This is unacceptable design failure for something the Red Cross is touting as a household essential.

4-0 out of 5 stars So far, this radio seems fine
I bought this radio for my hurricane kit. We've had the power go out for a week or more, so the crank power was appealing.I also like the TV tuner (the TV stations have bigger news teams) and the weather radio.
    2-0 out of 5 stars Non-durable
Yes I like the AM reception-- But after using the Eton Fr-300 for thre months. The hand crank generator failed. With an inspection internally I found it was due to a Plastic reduction gear. Untill that point and time I was happy with it.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad Upgrade to the Grundig FR200
For both emergency and regular use, which I covet both reasons based on where I live, this Eton FR300 is a minor, but otherwise not bad, upgrade to the dependable FR200. It looks and feels durable right out of the box comparable to the FR200. With NOAA Weather bands instead of Short Wave channels I will never use, I'm kept up to date with any weather emergencies. The T.V. channel feature is also solid; I get my channels for news and information up here. With the crank handle I will never really need an adapter or batteries in the case of an emergency.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Sony Product
I've been a Sony customer since 1962 when I purchased their 101 reel-to-reel Tapecorder and it still works as well as it did the first day. Needless to say, this Sony SRF-M97 Radio Walkman is a gem, but programming the initial stations is cumbersome. However, after much trial & error it all comes together. It's worth every cent!
2-0 out of 5 stars Static, Static, Static
This did not live up to its price or my expectations.I walk to work and there was static on both AM and FM -

3-0 out of 5 stars Love the size
This is the first portable radio I have ever used. I love the size - small enough to not be in my way when I work out. Reception is not perfect but since I've never had another one, I don't have anything to compare to. But overall, I can get most of the stations I want to listen to with bearable statics some of the time (depending which direction I'm facing). I got a $30 discount for getting an Amazon credit card. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it for $60. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Radio
I bought this radio based on another buyers review on this page and I was happy that I did. Now I can listen to Michael Savage at work! Yey! This little thing can pick up stations from as far away as Atlanta, although, fuzzy. I can also get in Jacksonville (70 miles) and Savannah (80 miles) so yeah, I'm happy. It's steal at $12.00. And I love the old school design. It's funny how people my age (28) don't even know what a radio looks like! They ask, "What's that thing?" like it's some unusual device from Mars. Maybe they're stoned. Anyway, it's a sound investment if you want a nice little portable radio. Also I think it arrived in only 3 or 5 days which was another plus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just buy it
You won't be sorry. I'm 60 miles from NYC and can't get WABC--a powerful station--without drift and static on two AM radios which cost three times what this one does. No problem with the Sony. Comes in clear.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hunk of Junk
Bought this player used it twice and now it doesn't work.I took great care of it.Every time I put a CD in it it reads no disc. It's not the batteries.Wish I would have saved the receipt so I could send this hunk of junk back.

2-0 out of 5 stars Definately not worth the price
I love to sing in the shower, so my grandparents decided that this would make a good Hanukkah gift for me. Unfortunately, I can only use it once or twice before I have to change the batteries. When you first put in batteries, both the CD player and radio work great. But then, after a shower or two, the radio will play about 30 seconds of a song before decaying into an annoyingly loud "boom boom boom" noise. The CD player will either skip or not start at all. The only remedy I've found to this problem is changing the batteries, which are still practically at full power. Now, I must say that I "abuse" this device...I use it daily, leave it in the shower, and probably expose it to numerous cleaning chemicals, but from reading the other reviews I have determined that my problems might not stem only from this behavior. Bottom line: Don't get it if you plan to use it more than a few times,

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Excellent!
For my intended purpose, the Sony M37V is excellent.I walk twenty to thirty miles per week, and this unit provides superior musical accompaniment in a lightweight ergonomically designed package.I have a Sangean DT-200V (which is very good on local and fringe FM reception and fantastic for bedtime AM broadcast band DXing--I have heard stations in Fort Worth, Orlando, and Winnipeg from WNY) but it is too big and heavy to risk using while exercising.First I tried an analog-tuned Sony SRF-59.While the sound and the reception on FM was sterling, and slightly brighter sounding than digitally tuned units like the Sangean or M37V, it was a pain to find a new station with something I wanted to listen to every time a commercial break began and I found myself breaking stride struggling to adjust the controls of this otherwise excellent little radio (which I intend to repurchase in the future).I realized then that I needed something smaller with easily accessible presets, and after a visit to fixup.net which I came across while browsing the Portable Audio sub-forum at Head-Fi, I stumbled upon the M37V which seemed to fulfill all my requirements. The UPS man delivered it just today and after loading up its two banks of FM presets I took it out for its maiden voyage. It performed superbly.I put a snug fitting rubber band over my left bicep and carefully positioned the clip of the radio underneath it, then attached the radio itself. After hooking up my JVC Gumy earbuds I was in business and took advantage of today's crisp sunny autumn weather. With the M37V's five individual preset buttons, changing channels is a breeze, and I have no doubt that I will soon be able to do so by rote without even looking down at the radio. Some fringe channels have a non-objectionable level of hiss and periodically drop out, i.e. revert to mono, but not for long.Given the impoverished choices on the FM dial where I live, I am well pleased with this little gem's FM performance.Others have written that the M37V is also a capable performer on the AM band, but I haven't put it through its paces yet in that regard, nor on the TV or Weather bands (but it has been my experience that unless one lives close to a major city, TV and Weather band reception is spotty at best). The combination of the M37V and JVC's Gumy earbuds may not please an exacting audiophile, but should thrill the ordinary guy or gal.The M37V weighs just over three ounces fully loaded with a single alkaline AAA cell.Battery life is reputed to be very good, so even heavy users of this product may not find it necessary to purchase rechargeables. The symphonic level of sound that small quality units like this and the Sangean produce is utterly amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Distance Listening
I have had this radio for years. I'm completely happy with listening on any band with this radio. It has a recertion Quality that surprised me when tuning in distant stations.
4-0 out of 5 stars It Does What It Does
This is a decent radio for the casual user who just wants to hear music/talk radio without lugging around a larger device.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful Awful, not the first time Sony product dies
I used this product, maybe 5 times, and it completely died 13 months after I purchased it. It was stored in 1 place the entire time, never moved, never dropped, never abused. And it dies. I then attempt to take advantage of the Visa "double your warranty" extended warranty coverage, only to be told that because I used my online "Amazon' gift certificate to pay for a portion of this product, that this excludes the extended warranty. So I toss out a brand new looking Sony product.
1-0 out of 5 stars Useless
A clock radio without a battery back up?I can't believe Sony would not have this feature.Even the cheapest clock radios have this. Info states if electric is out for more than 1 minute your settings will be gone.Another feature missing is no headphone plug. For $60.00 this is a waste of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mine died
I most always prefer Sony products and aside from not being able to read the time during the night I was pleased with the Dream Machine. It's compact body fit easily on a bedside table and the sound was not bad. However, it died during the day the other day...nothing that I did. It was fine when I got up and when I went to bed it was dead just as if the plug had been pulled. I have plugged it into a couple different outlets and it is dead. I've only had it a year. So disappointed. The Sony dealership charges $89 an hour for service. Not very ecological if I have to go buy a new alarm/music system. I would expect it to last more than a year, coming from Sony. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great radio
This is a great radio for getting weather reports. The display is lacking if you want to use this radio for a bedside radio. It took me a little time to get it set up (reducing the number of watchs/warnings I wanted the radio to alert to).Entering the SAME code was not a problem.I highly recommend if you are looking for a radio to let you know when the next storm is coming.A few "cosmetic" changes (better display, ability to turn beeping off) would get this radio to 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars First Weather Radio
This is the first weather radio we have owned.I found it easy to program and set up.It has every available feature/watch/warning that a homeowner could need or want.My children 8 and 5 feel a great comfort during tornado season knowing that we can access the most accurate weather information in an instant.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Weather Radio, could be improved as a clock radio
This is a great weather radio, one of the best. The SAME technology coupled with the ability to enable or disable many of the alert functions ensures the radio wakes you up when you really want to be alerted, rather than for every alert the Weather Service issues.

The SRF-59 is lightweight, simple-to-use FM/AM stereo receiver. Weighing only 3 ounces (84grams), this compact player is a perfect companion for the track, bike trail or work area. The FM antenna is part of the headphone cord, so you are sure to receive a strong signal. The AM antenna is a ferrite bar type. The local/distant switch will help you fine tune the reception. Both the volume and tuning buttons are rotary dials, providing a nice sight-free way to make major changes to the Walkman.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, Great Performer, Outstanding Value
I initially purchased this model then returned it in favor of the Sony SRF-M37V because of its five one-button pre-sets which make it a no-brainer to use while exercising. However, the SRF-59, perhaps because of its analog tuning, suffers less from co-channel and adjacent channel interference on FM.It's audio is slightly brighter and more musical with a decent pair of headphones or earbuds than its digitally tuned cousin. With this in mind, I purchased another SRF-59 yesterday and spent all last evening listening to it.I literally could not make myself shut it off and go to bed I was having so much fun scanning the FM dial. There was a program which aired last night on a local channel which featured bass-heavy 12" remixes of eighties new wave hits with, blessfully, very limited commercial interruption.Over the course of a three hour listening session, I gradually cranked up the volume. As I was too lazy to fish out decent earbuds, it became apparent that with bass-heavy audio at very loud volumes the SRF-59's tiny amplifier was insufficient to drive stock Walkman style headphones and peak audio was clipped which simply necessitated turning the volume down a tad to restore full musicality (I understand that decent quality earbuds require less power to achieve the same level of high sound output, therefore there will be no audio clipping).Nevertheless, the sound quality from this bargain-priced Walkman through less than ordinary headphones was astounding. The party is literally in your head, and the soundstage ranges from ear to ear, which is somewhat disconcerting when it is located above your sinuses.I also made one pass through the AM band and there the SRF-59 was no slouch either.I hauled in 1200 WOAI San Antonio which is approximately 1000 miles from me.Though no true DX machine, after all how could it be, it is at the least a competent performer on the AM band as well (I suspect early in the evening AM DXing conditions were as good as they have been in a long time). For more on this model and others visit Xin Feng's website.I highly recommend this model for cheap thrills!

4-0 out of 5 stars great and inexpensive portable radio
The price of the radio is quite excellent! Its only drawback is that the tuning is manual, and not digital:due to the sensitivity tuning dial's small size, adjustment is often necessary, which a digital tuner would avoid. However, a digital tuner would probably increase the radio's fantastic price!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for you if you're outside the city
I purchased this walkman to listen to talk radio and some music while I putz around or workout.Don't bother with this Sony if you plan on moving around.I lost reception even on the better channels every time I moved. What good is that?

    4-0 out of 5 stars Where's the 7/5/2 alarm?
When I bought this T617S from Best Buys, their placard distinctly said it had a 7/5/2 dual alarm. I went to BB today to verify I'm not crazy and it DOES say it has the 7/5/2 Dual Alarm but there's nothing about that in the manual. One of the main reasons I bought this clock was so it would only go off on weekdays. I feel ripped off. Other than that, I really like this guy.
2-0 out of 5 stars Broke after a month, but it's a nice unit otherwise
Getting ready to send it back for warranty work. After just a month, the CD player pretty much stopped working all together. It sometimes will spin, play a little, then shut off.
5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate -- don't listen to the whiners
I bought this clock for my daughter after reading the reviews with her of all the cd-rom alarm clocks on Amazon. All the features sounded incredable.Guess what -- they are! This clock is the ultimate, and she will probably keep it for most of her life. The nature sounds are great, the alarms are great, the sound quality is great, the MP3 input line and separate jack for headphones work great. We have had the clock for over 2 months now, and it was well worth the money. As for the negative reviews, take them with a grain of salt. There are whiners in every crowd. ...
