5-0 out of 5 stars works fine
I've had this scanner for a few weeks now and it works fine. I had a scanner previously so I had little trouble entering frequencies and otherwise getting it to work. It's small, but the sound is very good and it picks up signals well, in this mountainous area.

5-0 out of 5 stars BC92XLT Great little radio that does it all
I've been listening to "police & fire calls" for over 30 years now. Times have changed, now you can listen in on much, much more. And this little radio can do it all. From NASCAR, to airplanes, Coast Guard, HAM's, public service, hospitals just about anything (NO celluar however). If you haven't used a scanner before, just read the instructions manual. This uses 2 AA batteries and comes with a charger, antenna belt clip and manual.Need your local frequencies?Just do an internet search, you'll find them. I like this radio so much that I bought a second one to keep in the car.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Handheld
Great radio. I take it to work and listen to it all day. Programs and runs the same as all uniden radios. You do need to read the instructions. For an experienced radio hound it is no trouble. For the beginner it has preprogrammed searches to get them started quickly. Great size and is well built. I currently own an 898T also and the sensitivity to signals are the same for both. This is the fifth Bearcat I have owned and it has not let me down!!! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Versatile, compact, and easy to use, the Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner offers a simple way to monitor the "action" bands, including police and fire channels (including rescue and paramedics), NOAA weather transmissions, business and industrial radio broadcasts, utilities, marine and amateur (ham radio) bands, air bands, and more. In short, the scanner keeps interested parties in the information loop. Of course, scanning the 32,000 available frequencies can be time-consuming and frustrating, which is why Uniden added such functions as Close Call capture technology, which instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters to help you detect and identify local signals, and a comprehensive memory that holds up to 100 programmed channels (10 per bank).Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Will not keep a charge/goes through batteries
This is a great scanner, easy to program and operate. The only draw back I see is, it will only run for an hour or so on batteries. It is a great scanner if you are going to have it plugged in all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, Addicting, Exciting, Surprising!
I bought this scanner to use at the Bristol Night race in August 2006.I fully expected this unit to do well as a race scanner, but was pleasantly surprised to find out it is a tiny powerhouse of excitement!I turned it on and easily scanned right into the local police bands and immediately got into some action! Then I scanned the "air" frequencies, and got some air chatter from a small "shuttle" plane coming into Tri Cities Regional Airport.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good scanner
This is the first scanner i have ever owned, and I must say its a good scanner. I bought it to listen to railroad communications mainly. I do listen to local police dept's (3 of them) and they all come in clear. I would say its a great scanner and the programming is not THAT hard, but it does take a little getting used to. Also, the antenna that comes with it can prove a little useless everyonce in a while, but i think thats with most of the scanners. So, if you buy a good antenna for this thing, it will work GREAT. ... Read more

Editorial Review

A versatile all-in-one scanner/warning system that keeps you informed of nearby police, fire, and other emergency activities, the Uniden BCT8 is a must for truckers and other mileage-heavy drivers. The foundation of the BCT8 is its BearTracker technology, which scans for "mobile extenders"--used by virtually all highway patrol vehicles to communicate with dispatchers--and alerts the driver when a patrol is within a three-mile radius. The technology is far more efficient than a radar detector, as it doesn't wait until you're under surveillance before alerting you to the highway patrol's presence. The remainder of the time, the BCT8 scans its 250 user-programmable channels (five banks of 50 channel each) for active transmissions and switches to the channel once it detects a broadcast. The unit's scannable frequency coverage includes all of the most interesting "action" bands, including police, fire/emergency, business/industrial, amateur radio, utilities, weather, marine, aircraft, and more.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This Scanner is Awesome,
This scanner has no problem keeping track of ALL radio traffic. I live in densely populated San Francisco near the entrance to the bay and right under the GG bridge. This little scanner gets it all. CHP, Bridge Patrol, Bridge Electricians, Bridge Shuttle bus. SFPD, SFFD, EMS. Yellow Cab, DPT, Harbor Pilots, Tugs, laundry delivery trucks, totally (too much information)TMI! In search mode I get signal from as far north as San Rafael (Marin County)as far east as Oakland as far south as Burlingame with the supplied telescopic antenna! For mobile applications ditch the supplied little wire antenna'n get a magnetic roof mount.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you are looking for an all-purpose Scanner this is the one to buy
Having logged over two million miles as an over-the-road truck driver and a radio junky I love all kinds of radios... I got out of listening to scanners when they went to trunking calls... Listening to one side of a radio call gets real old real fast.. The cost of radios that would track trunking radios was expensive and limited... While recovering from getting hit by a truck traveling 70mph while making a left hand turn on my Harley. I turned my love of raidos to keep entertained during the many hours of recovery... Short wave is great... My longing for a scanner that will track trunking was a must... After reading many reviews and doing research I knew that one scanner needed to cover all bases was the Uniden BCT8 fit what I wanted... I find the Bear Tracking feature is great I had know idea that it would work so great... It works much better than radar dectors by the time they alert you it is too late... Where the Bear Tracker works great... I think it will be on a lot of future scanners... I only own one scanner with it's Trunking Tracker III it is the only one I need... I live right under the flight path of the flight for life helicopters I can scan for them as well as Police and Fire calls... The Ambulance services control towers and much more... The instruction manual leaves a little to be desired but if you have any experience in radio's it isn't a problem... While it takes a little effort to figure out listening groups it is not rocket science... If you are like me and want only one scanner this is it... I put together a battery pack for it in case of power outages it comes with everything you need for using it in your car... I think it is the most bang for the buck in scanners... Buy it... My son also thinks it is extra cool because it has a NASCAR logo on the front...

5-0 out of 5 stars Dose this scanner pick up local police and also Fire/Ems
I just purchased this scanner before i thought about looking into see if it did all that as well i havent seen it stated. if i know the frequency can i put it in and pick it up? Also is can this be used as a base scanner as well? I wish i would have gotten these answers before i bought it but it was the cheapest i found so i jumped on it before thinking. Can someone help me with some info. If it dose local police, fire/EMS.? Thanks For your help on this. ... Read more

Get in on all the action with the Uniden BC350C, a powerful radio scanning and searching unit. In search mode, The BC350C can search 13 bands to find active frequencies. This differs from scanning in that the unit searches for frequencies that have not been programmed into the scanner's channels. The scanner automatically chooses between two speeds (Search and Turbo Search) while searching. During search mode the scanner will search 100 frequencies per second, while in Turbo Search Mode the scanner can achieve up to 300 frequencies per second in bands that have 5 kHz steps.Read more

  • Quickly searches the most interesting "action" bands where you can hear police, ambulance, fire, amateur radio, public utilities, weather, and more.
  • Search lockouts let you lock out frequencies that have continuous or uninteresting communications so that searching is faster.
  • Backlit display makes messages are easy to read in low-light situations
  • Includes accessories for installing in your car

2-0 out of 5 stars Low on features, mediocre performance.
This little scanner is not worth the price. It's got a very limited user interface making it very slow and aggravating to use. There is no possible way to directly input a specific frequency, large gaps in between the frequency ranges it's programmed to receive, and very limited memory capabilities. The small display is hard to read unless you are directly in front of the device, looking from any angle and the backlit LCD display is unreadable.
1-0 out of 5 stars Odd Scanner
This is a very odd scanner. You can only program frequencies as you hear them. You cannot program frequencies using the keyboard. This scanner is virtually useless to most people. It is not a trunking scanner and you can't program favorite channels except via a very convoluted method. I own one that someone gave to me. It sits scanning marine channels. Not much use otherwise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun and interesting toy for an amateur like me
I bought my first scanner from a local Church sale about two years ago. It was a crystal based Regency brand, that luckily had all of the correct crystals for the St. Louis area. I was hooked.

GREAT FOR NASCAR!!! BUY IT IF YOU GO TO THE RACES!!Hard to program and figure out for anything else!Very time consuming to program anything but nascar. Also too easy to mess up the nascar preprogrammed frequencies if you don't know what you are doing! Very complicated manual. Not real straight forward!

4-0 out of 5 stars BIG bang for the bucks
A little about me first.I don't have the equipment to analyze the scanner inside and out.I also live in an area with LOTs of radio traffic.Keep that in mind if you want an engineering review, or live in the sticks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Size=greater versatility
This unit's small size makes it possible to mount in any vehicle. Every car at my house has a spot where it could be mounted (but it stays in my truck!). This radio works just as good as the more expensive ones, as long as your antenna is of high quality and tuned. I highly recomend this radio to people who are looking for a basic radio that won't break the bank, and for the CB'ers who just want to communcate to other drivers without having to mess with RF gain, delta tune, dyamic boost, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Antenna Question
The previous review that mentions antennas are key to a good CB setup is correct. For a normal CB user I would recommend either the Wilson lil' Wil or the Wilson 500 antenna. Both are magnetic mount antennas. The lil' Wil antenna is a relatively small antenna and it's only around $39.00.Actually any Wilson CB antenna will be fine. Also, to do a good job at setting up your antenna you should purchase an SWR meter. They are not expensive. You only need the meter connected inline between the radio and antenna when you are adjusting the antenna.Once you are done adjusting the antenna you can take the meter out of the connection and connect the antenna directly to the radio.Don't be fooled by cheap ordinary CB antennas like you will find at radio shack.Do not settle for anything less then a Wilson antenna.Cobra and Uniden both make fabulous CB radios so either make will be fine.

4-0 out of 5 stars Response to Range
The range of any cb depends upon the antenna.A $30 cb on a good antenna will have considerable more range than a $150 cb on a cheap antenna.Inexpensive cbs do have less sensitivity and features of more expensive cbs, but if you are just starting out, I would suggest an inexpensive cb with a good antenna such as a Wilson 'Lil Will' magnet mount. If you purchase the antenna at a cb shop, normally they will be more than happy to install and tune the antenna for you free of charge. The antenna normally runs around $30 and is one of the better entry level antennas out there.I have ran a cb for 10 years and I still use one as a back up.But remember, the secret to range is in the antenna system.. not so much the radio. But whatever you choose.. do not get one of those 'through the glass' or a 'rubber magnet mount' antenna. These are poor antennas with very limited range, usually less that a mile. Get something with a steel whip equal to or over 36" in height. ... Read more

I ordered this item for myself & 2 others for family members.I chose this model based on its ability to charge a cell phone as I was recently involved in a 2-day power/phone outage & could not even call the power company as my cell phone was dead. The "What's in the Box?" description led me to believe that there would be a cell phone charger adapter included with my purchase. The 3 radios were received. What was actually in the box was just a radio & a strap.I contacted Amazon & was told they would be shipping out replacements & to return the other radios.Which means I had to contact my family members with the instructions on how to return the item. The "replacement" radios were received today & once again, the box only contained the radio & a strap.Very disappointed! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars RobertMasonRep
I have had the opportunity to use with this scanner. I disagee with the other reviewer on CTCSS problems. This scanner has excellent sensitivity however, it needs a make-over--more channels and perhaps alpha-tagging. The audio output is okay however the speaker is on top of the unit, rather then on the bottom. I do remember having poor VHF-Low band sensitivity. Here in Westchester County,NY--fire is 46.260VHF High band and UHF were awesome. I think from personal use, the Radio Shack PRO-2055 is a much better receiver as long as you stay away from date code 09A05 as it had display problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Factory Defect It doesn't hold it's mode
I bought one programmed it.This is my 4th Trunk Traker so I now my area system and uniden scanners inside and out.I set it to track trunks and left it on.The next morning it was doing a conventional scan.It just can't track trunk for a long period of time which makes it useless for recording.Or anything else for that matter.Uniden makes great stuff but this model just got goofed up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value
I use this radio for day sailing and it meets or exceeds my expectations for a handheld VHF unit.I dinged it one star because the NiCad battery runs down fast and is finicky about charging (one must monitor the time it spends in the charger so as not to overcook it.)Other than the power issues, it is great. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars How Did This Ever Get Approved???
Normally I review STRICTLY books...but this product annoyed me so much, I had to review it. I took this scanner to the Martinsville race this past weekend and was VERY disappointed. I was under the impression the headset was attached to the scanner, but instead you get a cheap pair of headphones that are inserted into your ears, and the earmuffs go over them to muffle the noise.
2-0 out of 5 stars good looks, little performance
I love the look of the Dale Jr. scanner and headset.I hate the scanner itself.I took the scanner to the Bristol Race last weekend.I could not pick up the local race frequency.I could only tune in to a few drivers. Most of all, general reception was horrible. This item should have never been sponsored by NASCAR or their drivers. You can get a great scanner, with great reception at radioshack for $99.99.NASCAR should have just sold the headsets, without the scanner.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible scanner!
I had this scanner at the track this past weekend and was very disappointed!!You couldn't make out what was said by the driver/crew and I had the volume all the way up.The radio station the race was on didn't even come in clear.May be a problem with the antenna? ... Read more
