Clumsy to use
I didn't have any problems at all with the Internet-based rate update, unlike others reporting problems here. Unfortunately, though, the scale is a huge pain to use: you place an item to be weighed, hit HOLD, then the "shipper" button to select the carrier, then the "service" button to indicate delivery type. Only then do you see the rate. It then requires three keystrokes to prepare to weigh another item, after which EACH of the steps above must be repeated since the settings aren't persistent from one weighing to the next. Bottom line: this scale is functional but not really useful; it's clear that the people who designed this don't actually ship packages very often, and that they didn't solicit feedback from anyone who does.

Sorry Sam.Your tips don't work... Even with the batteries installed and wall power connected..BTW. the manual states that only the wall charger needs to be installed.They just dont want you to use just the batteries.

Cheap & Durable
I don't know about these other reviews but I purchases this scale several years ago to weight backpacking equipment and food. This thing has been a tank. I have had this scale for a long time, it works great and I have beat the snot out if it including dropping it off of shelves.
Opposite of durable
I bought one of these.After about 6 months, it died.Bought another, it refused to turn on, brought it to the store and got a different one that turned on.This one died in the same timeframe.Towards the end of their lives they both got rather inaccurate, off by as many as 4 oz!They may be cheap, but I'm never buying one of these again.

Great scale for letters and science projects
I have been using this for 2 years now with absolutely no problem.Initially bought this for weighing stuff for a science project because it can also measure in grams.It has a tare function so the weight of the container can be conveniently excluded from the measurement.Never have to change the battery yet for the hundreds of measurements so far in the last 2 years.Very consistent.You can weigh a letter several times and the measurements are always the same.The first class postal rate changed from 37 cents to 39 cents about a week ago.I went to their website and downloaded the updated postal rate template.Printed it out and cut along the lines.It fitted perfectly.I think that is good customer support. ... DO NOT BUY THIS SCALE!
Be warned!I purchased this scale new and had to return it.It never worked.When I turned it on I got a quick flash of a 0.0 and then dotted lines.I leveled it with a leveling bubble and continued to get the lines.The manual does not have any answers so I went to their website "[...]".I could not find anything to help me in the "Support" section or the "Help" section.I really needed to weigh packages for mailing and I can't believe the company doesn't even have a troubleshooting guide.I even got the engineer next door to look at it and we decided it is just garbage and a big waste of money and TIME!!Save yourself.

no good...don't buy
I bought this scale to weigh my kid's pinewood derby car.It was a little tedious at best right out of the box.With a little patience I got it to work correctly.I put the scale away, and got it out the following year for the same reason.This time, however, I get nothing but a bunch of dashes across the LCD.Waste of money.

What good is a scale that doesn't work?

Perfect little scale for big jobs!
I love this scale.It's perfect for home and small business use.It has a variety of options for weighing from metric to standard US.The 55 pound capacity is ample for home use and the ounce measurement goes down as small as 2/10ths.Very nice if shipping to Canada and you need ounce measurement.It's a great size: only 8"x9".The detaching face plate allows you to pull it away from the scale when weighing a large box so you can still see the numbers.It comes with a letter tray, a mailing tube holder so your item doesn't roll off and a flat tray.The lifetime warrenty is a nice add on also.

Misleading Ad
The product is fine, the ad is misleading. This scale is available from many vendors, many offering it at a lower price. I purchased here because the Ad title said Ultraship 55 lb Electronic Digital Shipping Postal Kitchen Scale WITH AC ADAPTER. When it arrived there was no AC Adapter and in reading the advertizing more carefully I see that it was never intended to be shipped with the scale. When I called the company to talk with them I could only listen to a recording repeating their business hours -- I was calling during their stated business hours -- and suggesting that I send an email.I found the ad misleading and the experience distressing. I dabble in internet sales and wanted an inexpensive scale that simply weighs things!Easy wou would think?Not so much. Digiweig Postal Scale
I have become an ebay participant. I send out items through the mail and UPS everyday. I needed a postage scale so I bought a Digiweigh from Amazon. It has served me well. It gives the correct weight every time. When I take my items to the post office my packages and other mailings are always within a tenth of an ounce of the postal scale. In fact, the post office doesn't even bother to weigh my items any more since the weight is always accurate. I'm buying a Digiweigh for my son who has also begun trading on ebay. It's a great and reliable product.

I bought this scale for personal and business use. It worked fine for about the first 2 weeks, then it started having problems. When I turn it on it says E-L and shuts off. It use to do it everyonce and a while. I thought maybe my kids were involved with the mystery message. Now about 2 months later.. I can't get it to turn on at all. It always says E-L. I don't recall it coming with any papers.. if it did, I wish I could find them so I could tell them what I think of this product. I wouldn't even go as far as to call this a true product.
