3-0 out of 5 stars Ink Hog and Printhead clogger
This printer, I have had two of them, is an ink hog.Fortunately there are many firms supplying refilled cartridges or comaptibles for under $9.The problems lie in (1) the print head clogs (2) the printhead does not readily clean (3) you can't clean the black and color printheads separately or by color ... so you waste a lot of ink.
1-0 out of 5 stars Ink Guzzler
I'm constantly having to run the cleaning maintenance which sucks up ink (you have to waste both color and black inks even if only one is leaving gaps in your printouts). After multiple back-to-back cleanings it still leaves white lines. I give up after awhile and have my husband print things out for me at work. And the on-screen gauge of how much ink remains showed up once and never appeared again! It won't print black text if you're out of color ink and vice versa. I get very few prints out of each cartridge. The ink cartridges are very small besides being very wasteful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hated it...
We were talked into this thing by an enthusiastic salesperson, and where stuck with it for two years. It cost easily 10X + it's sale price in wasted ink. Only about 10% of ALL attempts to print photos and documents actually have produced usable products!!! That's not an exaggeration 1 in 10 print attempts will be excellent, or something you would even consider to put in a frame or send to someone, the rest look like creatures from black lagoons to amateur screen printing mishaps.

1-0 out of 5 stars expensive cartridges and a menace to the environment
Forget about it. My husband and I bought this printer a while ago, and all I can say is that it hurts my stomach every time I use it. The cartridges are overly expensive, and once any of the four colors of the color cartridge runs out, it refuses to print, even if you are not using that specific color. Then the cartridges are absolutely unrecyclable. Nobody accepts it, and when I called customer service which is located in Canada, they told me that they are saving the ones they use, just in case they become recyclable at some point. We feel terrible about junking this bundle of polluting plastic, so we use it when needed, but if we could go back, we would NEVER, EVER buy this printer. If you think the price is nice, make your calculations with the expense of cartridges. Laser printers are going down in price and are as good as this, the prints will last longer, and they are not as environmentally unconscious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Six months with Epson 870
I use this printer for semi-professional image production making fine art-type 8x10 prints.Color saturation is very uniform with great depth and fine color matching, print after print. Lucky for me, the monitor and Adobe Photoshop are very accurate, so I do get what I see on the screen. My gallery prints are mostly 7x9, using a tiff setting on the 1.3 meg Olympus, I get a large file that can handle 7x9 in.just fine. One complaint, this printer really uses up the color ink cart. I count average of 36 full color 7x9 prints on heavy matt paper! When the cart. is low, the software will take it down even lower on nxt. boot-up and then you will not be able to use even the full blk.cart., thus locking up the printer until you put in a new color cart. I think the idea is to sell more $24. ink cartridges.4-0 out of 5 stars Ok photoprint, good general use
I bought the Epson Photo Stylus on the basis on superior technical stats and excellent reviews from numerous sources (ZdNet, ComputerShopper etc ...).I have been mostly happy with it as a general purpose printer but I have found it somewhat frustrating to use as a photo printer.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good while it lasted
I bought this printer in mid-2003. It has worked very well for me. Unfortunately, it is now messing up like some of the others have described. The pictures look very dull. I've deep cleaned and changed all cartridges, but they still have a dullness to them. I have done a lot of printing on this machine over the past few years. I just wish that it would have lasted longer. I agree that it eats a lot of ink. I can't count how many cartridges I've gone through.

5-0 out of 5 stars I guess we're the exception...
We've had this printer for almost two years. I do a good amount of printing, both color & b/w. While I do need to do cleanings more often with this printer, mine is not sucking up ink at an unreasonable rate at all. And it is very affordable. Photos don't always print well... the only photo paper I have found to work well with my S530D was very the glossy trial pack that came with it when I bought it. No other photo paper has done well at all, so I suggest theirs. This is the best printer we have had in 10 years, and belive me I've thrown my share out the window! I can offer THIS advice to owners of ANY printers. Always use the power switch ON THE PRINTER to turn it on off, never use the power strip switch, or the switch from properties. For some reason doing so supposedly wastes ink? I don't get it, but I've always followed that advice and this printer has been an absolute gem for us. Good Luck! Jeannie

1-0 out of 5 stars print heads are duds
I have had this printer for more than a year.At first, it was a great printer. Not anymore!!It uses up ink like no other, yes, it is great to have the individual tanks(which is why I bought the thing) but now the print head isn't working right.Do several deep cleanings and use up nearly all the full tanks up, and the problem is still there. The pages have splotchy black marks and the texts are only partially printed.Went to the canon website, they don't even acknowledge this printer ever existed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Low maintenance, good printer
I've had my i550 for several years now.Works great.I like only changing ink for the colors that are used.It never refuses to print based on counting print jobs (a problem that I had with an Epson). No issues with the quality of print.

5-0 out of 5 stars canon printer i550
I got my i550 printer more than 3 years ago and never had any problem with it; the printing is as clear as it was from day one [maintenance helps]. Although "old tech." by today standard, I highly recommend it for home use. I will not part with mine until it dies on me. Long live the "i550".

5-0 out of 5 stars ALMOST 2 YEARS & GOING STRONG
I have read some other reviews that stated after a year or 15 months they began having problems with this printer. I have had mine for almost 2 years and no problems encountered yet; and I use it alot.

4-0 out of 5 stars True Value.
I got this printer about six months ago and it has proved to be quite robust. It can do just about anything a non-industrial guy like me needs done. I am even using it with my new computer and storing the one which came as part of the package. HP's bang per buck is rather amazing as, financially, this is an excellent deal which is why I probably will continue to favor this brand over others. Lastly, concerning the criticism below about the lack of a USB cable, he's right and I agree it's inappropriate, but leaving out extras is, unfortunately, common practice among companies today.

3-0 out of 5 stars I've had incredibly bad luck with this printer
Well the product description neglects to mention the absence of the "compatible USB cable," which much be purchased separately...If you want an inexpensive printer (that comes with ink) then certainly take a look at this printer, just make sure you don't need to use it right out of the box because you'll need to track down a USB cable for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Does Photos Too
This printer is literally "the little engine that could." It's a small printer, but it puts out really high-quality printing. Even in Fast Draft mode, the quality is acceptable for reports. In Photo Quality mode, this is where it shines. I'm surprised; it's like the photos came out of one of those "Fotomats," remember them? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Faithful Printer
I've had two of these babys for several years now and they never cease to put out great copy, whether b&w or photos. I have no idea why others are disappointed (probably the same dude) but mine work great and it's sooooo quiet. Do the print heads ever clog??? Sure, like all printers without built-in printheads in their ink cartridges (which cost way more). I had two HP's and they always printed poorly except on the HP high quality paper. These printers print great on a grocery bag. If the head gets gunked up do what every other normal person does... boil some distilled water in a sauce pot and swirl the head around in it several times, but don't get the electronics wet. Works every time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good,
My mom's friend had this printer for some time now. and he gave the printer to her to give to me. So when I got it. I didn't have the installment CD so I went to canon's site and they had software to use for it for free! Alright so I got it all installed, Got new ink or it (since the old ones where empty) and I started it up for the first time in forever! I print something and it came out really swell for an older printer. I was pretty happy with the results for an older printer. I have had no problems with it so far. only thing I am not to happy with is sometimes grey looks kinda green. I am not sure if that's something in genral or what.. But it's kinda nasty. >.<

1-0 out of 5 stars at first you'll be happy, then you'll be mad
When the printer is new and loaded with fresh ink and prints on *Canon* brand photo paper, prints come out great. Take a month or two off from your photo hobby and try again. Presto. Your color ink tanks have dried up - time to shell out $35. Try to print something out a few weeks later. Presto. Your blank ink tank is empty - time to by another. Try using any other brand of photo paper - crappy prints - you must by expensive Canon photo paper. A few weeks/months later, try to print with fresh tanks - zippo. The print head is clogged - buy a new one for $150... no chuck the S520 and buy a new not-Canon printer. But first, try soaking the print head in some isopropyl alcohol overnight, dry thoroughly, and see if it works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As Always - HP Has A Winner
Impressive printer, this is. When my late husband and I were looking around, this printer was one of only a few that offered tabloid sized printing at an affordable price.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best printer purchase I ever made
I have used this printer for four years and it still works perfectly.I prints photos on photo paper beautifully.I love being able to print 11x17, and friends and family ask me to print for them.I use this printer heavily but have only bought new cartridges once in four years.I often print using the print quality of 'Fast'.The 'Fast' option looks like 'Normal' for most printing except photos. This printer was worth the expense.I also have an HP LaserJet 4L that is still working after more years than I can remember, and it's still fast compared to many newer printers on the market.

2-0 out of 5 stars Works great....but only with light weight paper!
This printer does not load paper properly if it is anything thicker than 6 mil. All of the nice Photo Papers that are a bit thicker and produce wonderful color, do not feed into the roller properly, and the top portions of the photos don't appear. The color is fantastic, but who cares if your missing part of the photo? Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs!
Even if someone offers to give you this printer for free, don't take it.I wasted $100 on it.I think I got about 10 copies before the black ink cartridge ran out.It never feeds the paper correctly, constant paper jams.Visiting the Canon website and following all of their troubleshooting steps has not worked. I threw this thing away. The scanner works OK but that's about it.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good all-1 here!!
bought this one for my brother and i'll tell ya, this is one heck of a printer, the quality is great. i catch myself using it more then my own epson.
2-0 out of 5 stars Avoid getting this printer.
I bought the Canon PIXMA MP130 All-in-One Photo Printer a couple of months ago and I used it mainly for scanning old photos onto my computer. The scanner isn't the best quality, but it gets the job done and I've had no problems with it. Printing is a completely different story. The printer broke after only using it a couple of times to print some pictures and some text documents. It gets error 5200 and there's no way to fix it from what I've seen. Apparently, many other people have been having the same problem as me. When I open up the printer to change the cartriges there is no movement at all in the cartridge holder, when it's supposed to move to the center. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars paper jam
Paper jam, every time. It's pretty amazing, this printer can suck in 10 pages at a time, not 1 page at a time, as a printer is suppose to. It jams half way, all the way, one page, two pages, 10 pages. So many variations- just to screw your day.

Not a bad printer for $39 at Walmart...very good print quality and nice features for a printer in this price range. But it eats ink like crazy. When the cart gets low on a multiple print job you have to do each copy manually which is very inconvenient.I can get only about 20 pages of a full color document before the low ink (color) comes on. 3-0 out of 5 stars Problems with colour
I have found the 9100 to be a fine printer for the digital photographer enthusiast and especially useful for turning our posters for a local theatre group.
3-0 out of 5 stars Canon S9000 Printer review.
The canon S9000 printer is a good printer for colour work provided the results are not for permanent storage. Fading is evident after a few months. Some banding and missing lnes appear on standard printing mode. The choice of paper and ink is crucial to consistency. I could not obtain sellable prints with it. The printer can stop printing halfway and spit out an unfinished job. The lack of error codes in the software or an LCD on the printer makes it frustrating when the error light blinks and the printer refuses to print. The cleaning eventually fills the cleaning sponge that needs to be sent to Canon for replacement (not cheap). The Canon S9000 does not support textured papers or CD/DVD direct printing, but this is now an old printer for this feature. The plus of this printer is the speed. Printing photographs or text documents is lighting fast and very good. Recommended for quick proofing of photos (provided the right profile is used) and for text with graphics.
1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Support
I bought one of these units almost two years ago. It prints good looking pictures. It is very convenient to replace only one emply color. etc.

1-0 out of 5 stars WiFi? Not Really!
The wifi has never worked for this printer. Contacted HP, LinkSys, Dell, Apple. Its better to buy a regular printer and a wireless adapter than to buy this printer. Wish I had more luck with it.

3-0 out of 5 stars wonderful when it works properly, frustrating when it doesn't
When it works I love it. I don't understand how the wireless printing can work for months and then stop working at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer
I spent quite a bit of time researching printers. I chose this one because it has the best overall bang-for-the-buck for everyday use. I considered "photo printers". but then I realized I'd rarely print photos and I don't need the media card reader. The one in my PC does just fine. This printer does have a PictBridge USB connection, if you desire. I doubt I'd ever use it. Besides, it's just so much cheaper to order photos online or to take your memory card to a local drugstore and print them there.

4-0 out of 5 stars You can print on anything!
I purchased this printer while I was still in college (in 2001) and it saved me a ton of money on large-format printing costs. Since then, I have used it as a freelancer for various design projects and it has always produced wonderful prints. I'm able to use papers of all sizes and also print on other various medias (such as watercolor paper and even stiff fabrics). Every once-in-a-while, the heads tend to clog, but I've usually been able to fix that. That's common for all ink jets, especially when printing in large quantities. It's been about 5 years and I'm considering buying another SP1280 rather than upgrading to the newer model.

The good:
5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST EPSON PRINTERS EVER MADE
I have owned my Epson Stylus 1280 for over a year and a half now and have never once experienced any type of problem with this unit what so ever! I only use aftermarket Abacus Ink and have yet to have a glogged printhead issue. I use this printer to print images taken from my Olympus C 8080 widezoom at 8 megs.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK for 6 months, then, caput-
After adjusting for how pink this printer printed photos (had to take the Magenta setting to -15), it was OK for about 6 months. Now, every photo prints incredibly pink. I take photographs of art for a major collection here in Boston. Color matching is very important in my prints. This printer is horrible. By by. Im going to HP.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
I purchased this printer two years ago and 1t produced excellent results for the first year. The color quality slowly began to diminsh after that time and eventually required that I perform the head cleaning process before each printing job.I finally received an error message that instructed me that a major malfunction had taken place and to contact customer service.I was then instructed to either ship the unit in for service or consider a new unit. The manufactured would not tell me what the suspected problem was however suggested that it could be the printing head.I believe that not using the printer on a regular bases caused the heads to plug up beyond what the normal deep cleaning process could correct. My advice to anyone who buys into the Canon ink tank system, be sure to print a test page daily and perform the head cleaning process weekly.I don't believe I will own another Canon printer for this reason.

5-0 out of 5 stars Have a Canon i950 and i960 - Both Great Machines
I did a lot of research before buying my i950 a few years ago. I bought the i960 a year ago when I thought the i950 stopped working. Found out it was only a bad cable but now I have both! LOL

5-0 out of 5 stars Effortless
I finally upgraded from an ancient (but still working) CanonBJ, and I'm very happy with the results.Setup, including connecting through my wireless router, was a breeze; printing is speedy whether through my desktop or laptop; photo quality is great.Letter-size paper in the top feed and photos/envelopes in the tray offers good flexibility.I had trouble installing the Canon "Easy Web Print" on my laptop for some reason, but it isn't an essential feature.I haven't used the PictBridge feature with my camera yet, but it's nice to have the option avaiable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quiet, sharp printquality ...easy to setup
The unpackaging and ink cartridge instructions are concise and easy to follow.Pop the Pixmaip CD into your PC and follow the directions to install the printer on your wired or wireless LAN.You'll also automatically install the printer drivers, setup the printer device on your PC and load software useful for picture viewing and editing.Printer setup was a no-brainer and thus far the Pixma ip400R has been totally print reliable. This printer can be placed anywhere in the house and still receive print jobs by all household PCs! The "Out of the box" setup time until the first print copy was about 30 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Flexible Printer
I have a home network with both Windows XP and Mac OSX computers - 1 Windows desktop, 1 Windows laptop, 1 iBook. I struggled for a year trying to get my iBook to print on the printer attached to the desktop. I also tried several print servers, and never managed to get a good network printing solution.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beware of upgrading to Windows XP !
BEWARE!DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN!I have had my 1270 since Aug. 2001 and it has worked exceptionally well and produced award winning prints.I would have rated it 5 stars until I made the mistake of upgrading my system from Windows 98 to Windows XP.I had visted the Epson site to make sure they had a download for Windows XP, 1270 drivers.Sure enough, they did. What they didn't say, is that the printer really won't work at all satisfactorily after the conversion to XP and after downloading and installing the two programs from the Epson site. After three support emails, and, in their favor, receiving three quick answers with instructions on how to overcome the problems my printer was having, it still does not work. And, trust me, I followed the instructions to the "T".Why would Epson put the download on their site without making sure it would work?Entirely unsatisfactory experience.BEWARE!DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN!I am writing the following months later:Now my printer works perfectly with Windows XP.Somewhere, somehow either Windows XP or Epson fixed the problem.Great printer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
This printer is over rated! I have owned my Epson 1270 for 3 years. I am lucky if I printed 200 - 8 x 10's since then. It uses up way too much ink and then you have to replace the color cartridge at $35.00 because you ran out of ink on 1 color. The inks do not dry and the surface of the print is always sticky. You cannot stack the photo's on top of each other, as they will bleed the color to the backs of the other pictures or stick together. The heads are constantly getting clogged up and you waste more ink trying to clean them using the utilities that came with the printer. It printed great for the first few months that I owned it(still had problems with the ink drying). You cannot use Hewlett Packard photo paper in this printer as the wheels that push the paper thru the printer, form little cut dots into the photo and they appear as white dots. The inks smell and the quality is not as good as newer printers on the market. I was very disappointed in this printer as it was over-rated by photographers. Maybe the 1280 is better but you will still have the issues with the ink not drying. The inks are horrible as they splatter all over the inside of the printer. The cleaning pads get soaked up with ink and get on the rollers and then you have marking on your prints. Plus I had issues with using it with my new computer that had Windows XP, such as communication errors and very poor print quality overall. I ended up replacing it with the Canon i860 for $150.00. See my review under the Canon i860. Canon knows how to make a printer. Their inks come out dry and clean. As far as the Epson's, never again will I buy another Epson product.

5-0 out of 5 stars My eyes are amazed!
I am a professional artist.I have had this printer for about a year now.And the images that it prints out are outstanding. I print images ranging from digital photos off my Olympus C4040, to scans from artbooks,to simple B&W text pages. But I should be using my cheapo HP for simple BW text and conserve the heads and ink. I recommend a second cheap printer for simple prints.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars PC or Mac, it's great
When I bought this printer, I only had Windows (XP) computers. It installed easily and worked very well, with excellent print quality. I've since begun using an iMac G5 and hooked the Epson to it instead of my PC. I had to download the latest drivers when I upgraded to OS X 10.4 (Tiger) but that is something I'm used to in the Windows world.
4-0 out of 5 stars R300M Injet Gives Great Quality Prints!
I purchased the R300M, installed it and spent an entire day trying to figure out why I could not get it to work. Turns out, mine had a defective memory card reader. When I called Epson support they were outstanding at taking care of the problem. I had my new printer within 2 days.
4-0 out of 5 stars Slow, but excellent printer
Not much to fault here, unless you have dreaded driver problems of some kind. Used with a Nikon 8800 (8MP) and Pentax Optio S5I (5MP), this printer delivers stunning 4x6 or full page borderless prints. Forget the silly little picturemate. This is the printer to buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Photos -Fast - high quality!
I bought this printer a year ago and am just writing a review as it has stood the test of time. I had previously only used epson printers, but as I go thru spurts of printing found that their ink cartridges clogged if not used regularly. The PIXMA IP8500 absolutly does not do this!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pictures, High Ink Costs
Spectacular photo quality, extremely quiet. Intuitive yet versatile software, and the ink jets self-clean reliably. Also, fairly fast, even in High Quality mode all in an attractive package. Another very nice feature is that it does true automatic two-sided printing, though this is cryptically referred to as "Duplex" printing in the setup. Eight is a lot of $10. ink cartridges to replace, but only a few are used up quickly. Those few, especially black, are used up very quickly, to the point of being annoying. Having another, cheaper printer for black printing might be smart, but who has the space for that.
5-0 out of 5 stars Been waiting for a printer this good
All I can say is WOW.The print quality on this printer really blew me away.I didn't think it was possible to get photo quailty this good in my own house.Prints come out better than when I send them out.
