Editorial Review

Enjoy remarkably accurate tracking, separation, and performance when listening to vinyl with this dual-moving magnet phono cartridge. The 1/2-inch mount cartridge features a MicroLine shaped diamond stylus that tracks portions of the groove that other styli simply cannot reach, ensuring that high-frequency passages sound clear and crisp. The multi-level shape also wears remarkably evenly, extending the lives of both the record and the stylus itself (up to 1,000 hours). In addition, the AT440ML boasts a small curving rate that improves playback over the entire 5 Hz to 32 kHz frequency range, even for the inner part of the record groove. Other features include a gold-plated beryllium cantilever for added durability and a tracking force of 0.8 to 1.6 grams. The stylus is covered by a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Made a cheap turntable sound great on a high-end system.
I decided to dust off my old Technics direct drive turntable and play some records in the family room for the kids.I connected it to my system, a rather high-end Naim Audio preamp and amp with KEF speakers, and it sounded just like you'd expect a typical turntable would sound when mated with a high end audiophile type stereo system.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not quite the Holy Grail, but close enough.
Since the early 1980s, I've been bugged by end-of-side distortion and so far, only Denon's excellent (but discontinued) DL-304 MC has minimised inner-groove break-up to a notable extent. I read many glowing reviews of the AT440ML and itstracking abilities, so I gave it a go. It has coped remarkably well so far; and it's even outshone the Denon for inner-groove handling on a couple of key, annoying test records. It's a touch on the bright side and somewhat bass-light - and lacks the subtlety I've grown accustomed to from years of moving coil use. Connected to my Musical Fidelity X-LP2 phono stage, it's mind-bogglingly loud to the point of distortion, on many 12" singles. This is a problem, as the X-LP2 only facilitates attenuation of its moving coil input, not the moving magnet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I've recorded my albums on reel-to-reel tape for over 40 years in order to preserve them.I listen to the tape, and store the vinyl.Cartridges recruited for this duty have been higher end Empires, Stantons, Pickerings, Grados, Shures, a moving coil Ortophon, and others I've forgotten.I decided to archive the albums to DVD.I was only interested in the tracking capability of this cartridge as audio correction would be employed, when needed, using multiple programs for click/pop elimination, noise reduction, and frequency response correction. My decision to buy this cartridge was based on much research, and I almost spent hundreds more on a couple of others.

Editorial Review

Suitable for a wide variety of applications, the Shure M92E moving magnet phono cartridge faithfully reproduces the sound of your records at an affordable price. Once mounted on your turntable's tonearm (it fits both common tonearm types), its natural bi-radial diamond tip and aluminum-alloy stylus cantilever combine to precisely trace the grooves of almost any record for a difference you can hear. In addition, the model's low 1.25-gram tracking force helps prolong the life of your vinyl--an important consideration for collectors and serious music fans. Audio-wise, the M92E boasts an essentially flat frequency response of 20 Hz to 18 kHz and a stereo balance within 2 dB, so your favorite tunes sound rich and nuanced through the average speaker set.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Casual Listening Cartridge
This is a good all around cartridge especially if your not after a superior sound. It's very "neutral" and uncolored which is a real plus. However, the upper frequencies-cymbals, "sibilants" etc.-get pretty muddy. Don't let this scare you. This puppy, especially when mounted on a good straight arm P-mount, will track almost anything! If you can find a Shure 104E stylus to replace the stock stylus you'll be pleasantly surprised at how good the 92E cartridge really sounds! I only give it 4 stars because the stock stylus is a little lacking on the high end, at least to my ear anyway! Good overall value especially given that it's a "universal" mountingsystem.

3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonably Sounding Cartridge At A Very Low Price !
I had this Shure cartridge when it first made it's debut.I'm gonna be nice and say that unless you have real old records, worn out records, the stuff you would never play on high end expensive equipment, then this cartridge is your answer ! If you use this on pristine records you will definitely hear the shortcomings of this cart with regards to tonal, frequency, and sibilant accuracy. It's not going to perform anywhere near Shure's other two high end audiophile carts with regards to tracking and overall clarity and sound quality...You really get what you pay for with the

5-0 out of 5 stars phono cartridge saves the day

3-0 out of 5 stars Sounds fine for cost, but cartridge sometimes rests on record
This Audio Technica cartridge, like one I've bought before from them, sounds decent on my old Sony turntable.I'm not looking for hi-fi sound, just something to play my old records on my old turntable, so this cartridge suits my purposes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Basic Cartridge
This is an excellent all around solid performer. When compared to a Shure 92E, this Audio Technica 92ECD stands head and shoulders above the Shure in terms of high frequency response-cymbals etc. I'm sure the narrower elliptical stylus helps. No, it's not as "neutral" sounding as the Shure, but, to my ear anyway, is much "brighter" but also balanced. This is a good basic upgrade cartridge. It's not an "audiophile" contender but reproduces music nicely, well beyond most basic cartridges. Good "universal" value especially in that it can be used as either a P mount or standard. Have a listen, you can't go wrong for the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfectly Matched Set..
This cartride arrived as Original Equipment with the Audio-Technica AT-PL120 Professional Direct-Drive Turntable from Amazon.I purchased an additional cartridge due to past experiences with reductions in sound quality over time. The recommended Tracking Force of 3-5 grams appeared to be for those who DJ.My preference at 1.5 grams continues to provide accurate tracing of groove modulations. The .4 x .7-mil elliptical tip does provide outstanding performance without the extra mass improving the tracking ability of the stylus assembly, and extends frequency response.Essentially, it is tough as nails, and yet provides a well-balancefeminine touch on the vinyl.

The only plug-in DJ cartridge designed exclusively for the needs of the competition scene, the Stanton Discmaster II holds even the most worn-out grooves to create an unbeatable sound. The cartridge features a super-sturdy spherical 0.7 mm super-high-polish stylus tip coupled with a pumped-up output, resulting in a terrific bass response and high-energy playback. 3-0 out of 5 stars OK starter carts
These are definitely meant to only get a DJ off the ground. They are very dull in the highs and do not possess the greatest clarity. After hearing some Shure carts, I thought my Stanton's were mono, lol.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners and bedroom DJs
this is a DJ cartridge designed for backcueing and scratching. They are very affordable and have a reputation for lasting a long time and low record wear. Perfect for new DJs and practice.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not that great
Not the best cartridge to get.The sound isn't that clear and crisp & the first one I got I had to take back because it simply didn't work out of one channel.Best advice - listen to the audiophile's warning. This really was made to be played at a loud venue where the intricacies and details of the tune's/sounds aren't being concentrated on, and this is a good stylus to scratch if you're into it.

Ideal for scratching and battling, the Stanton 505 SK II phono cartridge appeals to DJs who value high-quality sound at an affordable price. The cartridge features a super-sturdy spherical 0.7 mm stylus coupled with a pumped-up output, resulting in a deep bass response and in-your-face sound. I bought a pair of these cartridges only to find out that they didn't include needles.Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with that, but since they are advertised with needles (see picture above), I found this to be a problem. And like the previous reviewer said, the advertised version comes with a velvet interior which would provide better protection during shipment. But all I got was some hard plastic and cracked cartridges.I am now in the middle of fighting for a refund.Let the buyer beware.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cartridge.
I bought this cartridge for my Music Hall MMF-5 after reading some reviews that gave positive marks to the unit's ease of listening.I am just getting back into vinyl right now but this cartridge for the money was a great buy and I have enjoyed it for about 20 hours so far.It was easy to setup if you are at all familiar with the process and comes with a nice aluminum case that has a small brush in it to clean the stylus. I listen to everything from jazz to hip hop and the M97xE is great for kicking back and really listening to some good vinyl. I read that it had a more laid back sound instead of being more in your face.I think it is a good combination of detail and non-fatiguing listening.
