It won't shut up or dial!
I bought this phone after 2 failed attempts with a Uniden 2.4GHz expandable model.This phone, however, is also maddening.First, the handsets, though in communication with the base, will not dial.Touch "flash" and begin dialing and NOTHING.No tones from the numbers, only the hum of the dial tone.The only way to solve this is to unplug the base.Second, and almost as aggravating, is the answering machine can NOT be muted.When the machine answers, the outgoing message blares like a roaring jet engine.Didn't anyone at Motorola think, 'Hey, maybe the customer will purposely not answer the phone?'It's so loud I've had to tape a pad of post-it notes over the speaker.If you don't have a baby sleeping anywhere in the house or you enjoy being awoken every morning by your answering machine, this phone is for you.Oh, don't forget to reset the base so you can actually call the person back.

Disappointed, But a Workable Phone
We bought this phone at Costco with the 3 additional handsets.Overall the phone works as advertised.
Great Idea and Works but...
I'm more likely to carry my cellphone and just use it rather than plug it into the dock.Audio quality very good.Only problem is that the phone simply rings for no reason every half hour or so.Even with no computer network or cell phone "docked", it just rings for no reason.I'm debating whether to retun it or determine if my DSL line is sending some signal that makes this phone (but not my other phones) ring, and yes of course I have my filter connected.Has anyone else had this trouble? ... Love this phone!
I bought this item from a different store and must say it is a purchase I am proud of. It has many ring tones and jingles that I took the time deciding on rather than settling for. The answering machine on this model is great, and noticing you have messages and listening to them are super easy. Volume control is wonderful. The handset is small but not too small. I have a little one and she loves to take it around and pretend talk without harming it a bit. The features are great and the manual is straight forward and easy to use. I liked the MD671 for the home office so I thought the MD7161 would be a good upgrade for the home phone. Not so. The handsets intermittently cut out when the person on the other end is speaking. I tried all the troubleshooting recommendations with no change in the problem. If you cannot hear the entire conversation that sort of makes the phone unusable, right? ... Read more

Nice!
I bought this a couple of days ago. I needed an expandable, and was looking at my local Sears, and saw this cool telephone! It was $49.99, so I thought I'd give it a try! It came with 2 handsets, but it is expandable up to 4 handsets, and I put the main telephone in my bedroom and the other telephone in another bedroom.bought it because you only need to plug the main telephone into a telephone jack. The others plug into an outlet, and locate the main handset, and it still works like a regular telephone! I LOVE IT! I'm going to buy 2 more handsets for it soon! I highly recommend it!

The Phone with no instruction manual.
This phone was given to me as a gift.I have used a week, but will upgrade in the following weeks to something else as this phone has no backlit numbers.It's annoying dialing in the dark.My first opinions came after letting everything out of the box.NO MANUAL? I'm really hoping this is a fluke.It's a very unconventional dial pad so I really need the manual.I found GE's Thompson Phones website and found a link for the manual.The link pulls up a spec sheet.The spec sheet link pulls up a spec sheet.All their other phones have the same link issue. I called GE. Spoke to Robert, and his extreme Indian accent.GE is mailing me a manual 7-10 bus days.Still waiting.

Can't hear
I cannot hear anyone on this phone, even with the "voice enhancer" feature. If I answer with this phone, I always search out another phone in the house to talk on.

great buy
i've learned through trial and error that panasonic makes some of the best phones on the market.these are no exception, especially for the price.they are crystal clear and have many of the features you will find on their more expensive models, such as speaker phone, call-waiting caller id, phone book, etc.i've never felt the need to use a head-set on a house phone, so the absence of that feature is no big deal.they are a bit smaller than some of panasonic's other phones, but in an "ipod sort-of-way" that makes them cooler.

This phone is everything I needed. It is crystal clear,has all the features I wanted, and is very reasonably priced for the value. The extra handset is a real plus because it only needs a.c. power for the charger and does not have to be installed where a phone jack is. Therefore, it can be placed anywhere you need another phone.

This phone is awful!
First, let me say that I have another v-tech phone - that works great! But this one couldn't be worse! I bought the phone for my daughter thinking it would look nice in her room. It's cute all right, but after about 6 months - during which time she used it maybe 3 or 4 times for no more than 5 minutes per call - it simply stopped working. I thought it was a bad battery and bought a new one. Guess what...the battery was not the problem, the charger in the base simply stopped charging! You can't use a cordless phone with no battery...and since a charge only lasts 5 days...that's the length of time this phone will work. I would never consider a phone like this again. Don't waste your money like I did. It may be cute, but it doesn't work.

It could have been better
I had this phone for over a year. At times I loved it and at times I went searching for other phones. I replaced it once but the replacement died and decided to give this one another chance. Part of the problem was I didn't read the instructions or just forgot some. I think some of the people reviewing this phone are having the same problem. If you are getting a bad connection you should try changing the channel. Everytime you add a wireless device or electronic device you run the chance of causing problems with other wireless devices. Changing the channel fixed a problem I had and I bet it would have fixed some of the other reviewers problems also.

Very disappointed
I read a lot of reviews of cordless phones before I bought my Panasonic KX-TG5050.Wow were they ever wrong.
Poor voice quality
The transmitted voice sounds like your under water if you're within 30-40 feet of the base unit. I have had this phone for some time and followed the recommendations by Panasonic support but it never seems to work. I certainly wouldn't by another one. Perhaps my unit is defective. There was never any offer to replace it by Panasonic even after I asked.

A great phone!
Even thought the phone does not have an answering attachment I did not need one.What I wanted was a speaker phone.This one has a lot of features which I really appreciated.The speaker phone is on the handset and is a little weak in volume but it is portable so one can take it with you.I enjoy the music on the multi-tone ring.At times I have let it ring a little extra long just to hear it.I did read other reviews and tended to ignore the negative ones and am glad I did.This has to be be best phone I have ever purchased.Panasonic is a very good name. ... Great value but some useability issues.
