Needs better directions.....
This modem works fine so far. I didn't have trouble getting the MOH to install, I just couldn't find it. Right-clicking the application icon in the system tray of the desktop displays this option. I am not very computer literate, so I didn't think to look there.You must run the software installation FIRST before hardware installation according to the instruction book. Even so , my computer could not find the both drivers. I ended up going thru "my computer" and clicking on the "drivers" and then they installed.( There is an audio driver also). So far everything is running good.
Great Deal For The Price!
I bought two of these modems - one for me to replace that died in my 'puter and one for my friend's that died as well.Just took a matter of minutes to download the drives and swap out the old modemsfor the new. Both work fine and we're both pleased. You can't beat the price!

Excellent modem, but instructions not so much so
The Trendware modem hardware I purchased installed very easily, and the internet performance is more than satisfactory.The instructions were not good for enabling modem-on-hold (allowing one to receive calls while online), non existant actually.One must copy the LTMOH files from the CD, and then put them in a folder on the hard drive, and then add the ltmoh.exe file to the startup menu;for the software didn't install automatically. ... great modem, easy install!
got this modem yesterday, put it in this morning and what an easy process! I didnt even need to install the drivers, it connected fast and easy to the net. I had tried a cheap ebay modem that i ended up returning that just didnt work at all. But this one was easy, to install and i'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for a reasonably priced modem.

I am amazed
I never thought I would write one of these but here goes...I was trying to get online with my sister's old Dell computer with a Pentium 100 processor and running (barely) Windows 98SE.I bought another modem from a computer store "guaranteed" to work with this system.It continuously booted me offline, took forever to download sites and wouldn't let me on Ebay, Yahoo, etc.I returned that modem and bought this one on a whim because I had an Amazon certificate that was burning a hole in my pocket.I ordered one morning and it came the next afternoon.I easily installed it and have been surfing the Net ever since.It is incredibly fast to connect and reaches any site.Mind you, I am not a computer wizard and I have only been using this thing for a day and a half, but I would say give it a try to anyone else having connection problems even if your system is OLD.Run disk defragmenter often to keep things optimized and I hope things go as well for you as they are for me.One last note is that this modem does seem to screech and howl louder and longer while initially connecting to the Web than any I have used before.Still, that is a small price to pay for the speed and efficiency it provides.

Simple Modem Installation
One of the simplist installation of a modem I ever had.Running Win2000 just installed the board and followed the on screen prompts to install the driver.Had it running in five mins.Would have to recommend this modem.Speed seems to be faster than my old modem blaster which findly gave out.Read more

Works Well With Linux
I live in Internet Siberia and bought this to hook up a network of 5 machines.
Works great with SuSE Linux
I bought this modem because I couldn't find a Linux driver for my PCI modem. Since this a hardware modem it should work with most OSes.I wasn't disappointed. Setup was a breeze under YaST. All I had to do was select the modem from a list modems that was found by the system and I was done! The modem connected on first try and not once was it disconnected.

The modem seemed to work fine
I can't recall anything horrible about the modem.I used the modem for about a month and it worked.It never reached its peak modem speed though.I was told that this has more to do with the phone line than the modem itself.Regardless, I can attest to the fact that the modem did disconnect quite a bit.However, it would reconnect just as quickly.My main concern was the promise of increased modem speed; I just never saw it.I should have just continued to use the one that came with my computer. ... Terrible Modem!
I bought this modem to replace a 6 year old Conexent to see if I could pick up a little more speed.I wasn't expecting broadband, but I at least wanted to get maybe another kbps.Boy, what a LETDOWN!I couldn't get the connection speed above 19200!I'm not exactly a computer beginner and I tried everything that I could get from the software.No results.No matter if the speed was set at 57000 or 115200.Connect speed at 19200!No higher! With download speeds at a pathetic 2.0 kbps, I was beginning to think I regressed back to my old 486-14.4 days!
Solid Reliable Modem
This modem is great!!replaced a US Robotics 5699B which was hanging up and dropping connection.This one holds a solid connection without a hickup.Also, the Netwaiting software, which pops up to show you who is calling and let's you decide if you want to take the call or keep surfing, keeps a record of the numbers that have called you.

What does "ambient" mean?
This must be a WinModem type of modem. I bought it to use with Phone Tray Free, which requires a modem with Caller ID and Voice capabilities. Neither worked with Phone Tray Free. Maybe the Jaton modem didn't recognize my Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2. I went back to my US Robotics 56K V.90 Faxmodem, Model 5687 bought back in 1998, which doesn't have Voice but does recognize Caller ID in this particular software. The silent voice modem
Sorry, guys, but after about 90 minutes with this thing on a newer XP system... The packaged software would never acknowledge that the modem was on Com 4, but maybe that was because ALL of the Com ports remained grayed out and unavailable during the attempted install.Windows XP modem diagnostics assured me that when seen as a Generic modem it was indeed on Com 4, and was working properly (it would dial with the XP dialer)...Downloaded the newer (?) install file from Creative (you'll need Google to find it, and there's no online manual, no pictures or drawings), still had to refer to the CD during that install for the XP driver.Got the system to see a Creative Labs Modem Blaster and it still wouldn't work... Loooong story, but all I ever accomplished was a system lockup.Actually, SEVERAL system lockups.I never did see the voice software--it never installed.Maybe I should have tried for another hour, done the Com 5 / IRQ / tech support (?) dance, but give me a break.

Avoid Best Data like the plague
I'd bought this modem a couple of years ago due to the price and rebate, thinking it'd be good to have one in reserve. Installed it in my new P-IV ECS system (XP-MCE; 3 GB w/1 MB RAM).Upon installation after adding it after getting system running well w/ DSL, its installation did not succeed w/ the installation software. I let Windows handle it, but then had two listed modems and a "v92" "control panel" that was supposedly intended for this model . It stops working when another PCI card is added and requires major efforts to coax it into working. I upgraded the board drivers and what can be found at Best Data site for upgraded drivers (w/out any real info. on how).After it last quit working I gave up and went and bought a Hayes (Zoom).This was not my first Best Data modem (this was my third); but I shall NEVER buy another product from BD.ALWAYS, the configuration was somewhat problematic, as I recall. IN my experience, you'll also get higher connection speeds with another manufacturer. In fact, the similar model A56FW as a 56k unit was not much of an improvement over the 28.8k model it was to replace. In any case, I guess I'll keep it around in case someone is running some older OS and needs one, but it won't be in one of my machines.SAVE yourself some trouble. You might also prefer a model (non-HSP) that doesn't resort to software to handle the communications.

Terrible Product &Awful Phone Svc..Extremely Dissatisfied
Installed this modem on Monday and it didn't work.Error msg says, "Hardware does not support modem". I tried every troubleshooting suggestions. Still didn't work. Mind you, my computer has Windows 98 is barebone where there are no other programs that could interfere with it.The packaging says that this modem works for all Windows OS.Their technical support line is available ONLY 8-4pm PST.I took Tuesday off work in order to call them.I was on hold for at least 1 hour.I spoke w/a rep and clearly the product is defective because they have to send me another disk to supposedly fix the problem.The rep told me that since I called them early in the day and that I also reside in California, I would receive the disk later that day or next day.Now it's Thursday and I have yet to recieve the disk to fix the problem of their defective product. I am currently on the phone on hold for 45 minutes and counting trying to find what the heck is going on.

Big Let Down
When I received this I was expecting a lot. I did a clean install and dialed up. It worked great. I have never gotten more then 52.1 kbps and now I was seeing 53.2 kbps! Later, after rebooting i was unable to make a connection. I set up a new network connection. That worked until I rebooted. Could not get online. Made a new network connection. Could not get online. Re-installed the software after doing a clean removel. Could not get online. O.K., maybe I just got the first card off the line on Monday morning or maybe not. It's going back and I am not going back to Zoom.

No Caller ID as claimed

Setup was a breeze!
I unpacked my BT modem, paired it with my Palm Tx, and had it working within 5 minutes. It works great and will be very easy to take on trips with me and use when wifi is not available.

Very Useful
Like the other reviewer, I had a hard time setting up the conenction.You get a cd-rom that is suppost to help you and I thought it would be fairly basic, just enter in all the usual info and done... not.I tried for about an hour and could not figure it out. The next day I managed to do it within 45 mins(and I think the problem I had was in entering the Passkey# typed on the modem, I think I accidentally hit something before getting all the correct #'s typed in and it wouldn't easily let me try to enter the passkey # in again).

USR quality gone down hill?My experinces.
OK,flashback to about a year ago. I moved to a rural area, with marginal, at best, phone line quality.I was using a cheapo $10 lucent v.90 winmodem at the time, and decided that to make the best of what I had (I can't get broadband here) I'd invest in a decent modem. I am an IT industry professional, and the word on the street was USR made a solid, reliable product.So I bought the best PCI modem USR had to offer, the Performance Pro.Connect speed stayed about the same,(around 44K) but throughput doubled.Flash-forward.I recently fried my old USR PP, (oops) and bought a new one.To say the least, I am less than impressed.The new modem connects consistantly at 24K or less, and throughput is equally bad. Driver up-to-date?Yes.Same for Firmware.No amount of init string tweaking, enabling/disabing settings, protocols, etc. will correct.As a sanity check, I reinstalled my cheapo V.90 (I am using it now), and am once again getting reasonable performance, if not what I once had with my OLD USR.I can only conclude thatyou should seriosly think about buying this modem if you have marginal line quality as I do. USR was once THE source for good modems. I am disappointed to see this has changed.

Shopping for an unreliable modem?
You found it!.I bought this modem about one year ago mostly because it worked under Linux,the modem worked properly for 2 months and then suddenly quit working,all i got was a "NO DIAL TONE" error,of course i did check all the connections but still no luck. I bought this hardware modem a few weeks ago after a bad experience with a software modem. On my Windows XP system, installation was a snap. I inserted the card and turned on the system; the system recognized the card and automatically installed the necessary drivers. I didn't even need to open the enclosed CDs. Since installation, I've consistently connected at 52 kbps. (I can't vouch for similarly trouble-free installation under Linux, DOS, NT, etc.)Read more
