Great price for good sound, but discs would get stuck inside.<br /> <br /> Died after 2 months of use.Taken 1 month to repair.

For the price...
For the price it is definitly worth the investment. It provides great sound quality for such low power output. As far as the set up instructions go, they looked pretty straightforward to me, although I did not even need them to set up the system. Wires are color coded and everything else is clearly labled. Any confusion in the set up is due to incompetence on the users part. As far as the remote goes, I agree with the previous reviewer. The remote is pretty much worthless, which is why I went to wal-mart and bought an All 4 One remote that is much smaller and more efficient. With the money you save buying the system, you have no reason to complain about having to go and spend $12 on a new remote.

Not user-friendly
I bought this RCA RTD300 home theater system because I have been using RCA products for years and felt good about them.Less expensive, but we've seen good quality, and RCA has the easiest VCR programming in the marketplace.We have a 3-year old 36" RCA TV and a nice older Proscan VCR.Decided to get into the world of DVD and buy a combination home theater/VCR/DVD unit, thinking it would be a good transition.NOT!The remote controls between the older TV and this new home theater are apparently not compatible, and that's unforgiveable.Also, the remote control on the RTD300 system is not your typical RCA universal remote, and lacks the features and ease of use.Bad layout, it's totally confusing and nasty.Give me a break!That's the main reason I bought it, hoping to pull it all together in one easy package!The instructions for setting up the RTD300 are screwed up, too,the text does not match the diagram.I'm not stupid.3 days later, I still can't get these RCA components to work together.It's ridiculous and I am extremely disappointed with RCA at the moment. ... Amazing amazing amazing sound
This system with the dvd player is incredible. I have plugged it into my mac and play all my i-tunes from it, and also have it connected to a projection screen tv. (Since I already have all my music digitized, I saw no reason to buy the upgraded model which would digitize all the songs directly onto the Bose receiver.)
The Whole Package

wireless?
I received this package thinking that "wireless" meant close to or very few wires.I was let down as soon as the package was opened--I saw many wires!A friend helped me put the system together, and, after we were finished, he told me his ordinary, run-of-the-mill surround sound system had the same number of wires!In fact, he recanted his original statement and said that my Kenwood system had more than his junk-Aiwa!This sytem is not "wireless;" the system does, however, "relocate" the obvious wires that ordinarily stretch across the room.This enables the buyer/listener to avoid the unpleasant sight of cross-wires.On a more pleasant note, this is Kenwood, guys, and the sound is magnificent! I am still pleased with everything even though "wireless" is fudging the truth.

Quite Pleased
We installed the system 3 weeks ago.The rear wireless speakers work well and are the main reason we purchased this product over others - the design of our family room does not allow wires to cross it. The system also has lots of inputs and outputs -- we wanted to be able to add a VCR for our kids' videos and be able to hook on an external video camera. Both connected well.During set-up, however, some more detailed directions that explain the various connections would be helpful.We wanted to use our own 5 disc DVD/CD player instead of the single DVD player that came with the system and installing this was not as simple as we had hoped.Getting this to work required a couple of trips to Radio Shack and about $45 in additional cables.Hooking up all of the other components, however, was straightforward.Overall, we are very pleased with the product. It is what it is
For those who expect true 5.1 Dolby Surround out of the Bose 3-2-1 system, please look elsewhere. This unit does well in projecting sound when you have the speakers at a good ear level height for your sitting area. You need to get the setting just right for it to work anywhere close to as advertised.
Great for music, but what did she say?
Having owned this system now for a couple of years I have had my ups and downs but overall I am pretty happy with it. For the price you are getting a system that produces excellent clarity of sound with very small speakers. Yeah! On the negative, I don't really understand why they skimp out on the DVD side of things- I mean my $200 pioneer handles the range of DVD's much better. Of greatest concern for me though has been voice re-production. Voices are generally much softer than the other types of sounds, and while bose has a setting to try to rectify this problem, it doesn't do a very good job. Consequently, it can be difficult to hear words when watching tv and DVD's. Also, just a small note, to get the surround sound effect you have to turn the machine up pretty loud (so if you don't care too much for neighbours that won't be a problem). Overall, my music sounds crisp and I love hearing every little noise in my music, so I still have a smile on my face.

The Best Things Come In Small Packages
I just bought this system a few days ago and I am very pleased with it.It is a true bookshelf system because it is small, yet quite elegant.There are "bookshelf" systems out there that you couldn't fit on a bookshelf for a million bucks.There are some "small" systems for which you need to find the room for a big, hulking subwoofer.Not so with this system.The beautiful wood cone speakers really do the job of providing a rich, warm, vibrant sound for my cds and mp3 player.I use this system in the bedroom.It fits beautifully in the armoire and sounds wonderful!
Beautifully made micro system for the computer age
I have been a loyal customer of the JVC micro exe systems since they first came out and I have not been disapointed. The EXD1 is the fourth one I own. The main attractions to me are the USB audio input, higher power output, and the DVD funtion.

Good, but where are the audio outputs???
I bought this system because it was highly rated by a consumer group as having excellent sound.They're right - it sounds awesome with soundtrack-heavy DVD's.However, I'm going to get rid of it because I already have an extensive home theater system that I don't want to replace, and there is NO WAY to output from this receiver to my current system!!Rather, I can output VIDEO, but not AUDIO.What kind of idiot at Panasonic decided that no one would want to output audio?Granted, the speakers that come with it are great, and the dialog-enhancement feature makes it much easier to hear what the actors are actually saying (you'll hear dialog that you totally miss at the theatre.)It would be a great system for someone who has nothing else they need to hook up - thus the 4 stars.For me, however, it's just a few hookups short of basic utility.

Nothing but Disappointment, and I'm Not Alone!
Just like a previous reviewer, R. Adams from Austin, I have had nothing but the very same problems with my Panasonic home theatre.It is alarming to hear that he has had the same lack of customer service from Panasonic that I have experienced.

Outstanding Receiver
I bought this off of ebay for a [...] bucks. No fade in sound only complaints from my neighbors. I listen to rap and all my friends say, that is one clear sounding system. Have it hooked up using 5.1 for DVD's and its great. Recently hooked up my 360 and wow, what a gaming experience. This receiver has been nothing but great for me. Play with the settings and watch it go from flat to bassy. I bump this thing everyday with sub and no bass on the front speakers and it is loud. I had the bass up at my old apt and boy did I shake the walls. GET IT, don't be fooled by those with problems. And I ran my component and S-video cables through the receiver and it strengthed the picture that was already pretty damn sharp. I have 32 flat screen and running your video cables through the receiver only improves the picture, trust me. Did I mention I've had this thing for lets see 1.5 years and will continue to use it for another 3-4. And its digital so low heat and low power consumption.

Quality a little suspect
I have begun having the same problems as some as the other receivers. The sound either drops out or begins "stuttering", requiring you to change the input and change it back for the sound to come back. I have had the SA-XR25S for about a year and have finally had it.
