Editorial Review

Whether you're looking to expand your exercise regimen or you're just curious how much walking you actually do during the day, the SportBrain iStep X pedometer has you covered. The iStep X attaches to your belt or waistband, where it aligns just outside your knee. From that point forward, the device records every step you take--from leisurely strolls around the office to jogs at the park--so you can better gauge your overall fitness. When your day is done, simply connect the iStep X to a USB-compatible PC (requires Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me, or XP) and upload the data. The information is then sent automatically to your personal SportBrain page through the integrated iSync software.Read more

Features

  • Compact pedometer attaches to waistband or belt to record every step you take at home or work
  • Automatically sends step data (via USB 1.1) to SportBrain personal web page for analysis
  • SportBrain page displays steps taken, calories burned, daily journal, training charts, and more
  • 1.25-inch LED display; requires PC running Windows 98 SE, 2000, Me, or XP and IE 5.0 or later
  • Includes USB cable, battery, and lanyard; measures 2.2 x 1 x 2.37 inches (W x H x D)

3-0 out of 5 stars SportBrain pedometer not very smart
I was required by my fitness program on eDiets to buy this pedometer, although I had a perfectly good Omron HJ-112. The method of setting weight, stride and time variables is not at all intuitive and requires taking off the battery cover. The strap clip does not look like it will hold up well. The stride and weight variables only increment in even numbers -- beware if your stride is, say 27" or your weight 137. It seems like an awful lot of money to keep track of your progress, which you could do fairly easily with a spreadsheet -- or paper and pencil. I definitely would not have bought it if I hadn't been required to. *UPDATE: I finally threw this one away. It didn't count approximately 40-70% of the steps I took in a day, and, conversely, shifting in my seat at work would add steps. Use the money to buy something good, that works. I couldn't change the number of stars I gave this, but it would have been one star or less. A true waste of money at any price.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware: Plus $99+ To Use Full Internet Software
Don't buy this item. I went to Walmart to purchase an Omron, but found that they did not have that in the store. I saw the SportBrain iStep instead and decided to try this out (since 'wow' it uses USB to upload your step information). Big disappointment! In order to use their FULL software...you need to purchase the software too. The iStep packaging is deceiving. NOT worth the money and pedometer. I should have bought an Omron-HJ112 instead. Consumer Reports recommened it. I should have stick with that purpose to purchase a pedometer in the first place.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool Idea, too bad it doesn't work***
I was really excited about this pedometer, but you pay an awful lot to count your steps.Maybe it would be better to just keep track of those in my head. Then I tried to install the software, and had a lot of trouble.I had to uninstall and reinstall several times, and still wasn't able to get it to let me register.I sent in a "ticket" because you can't call for technical support. So no word on my problem and obviously it is not just my problem.I think this one is going back.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a peice . . .
I have tried everything that I can think of to make this $500+ PDA work for me. It has been back to Toshiba twice. I puchased the PA3197U 1BRL "high capacity battery pack." It is still the single worst electronics purchase of my life.
1-0 out of 5 stars Stay Away from this PDA
Despite early fixes from Toshiba, this PDA still has frequent problems with hard resets (you lose everything), loose batteries (you lose everything), and no support (cannot be upgraded).I am junking mine and moving to any vendor that shows they support their products (unlike Toshiba).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent PDA

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but can do with more enhancements
I've had this PDA for 6 months and it's been very useful in most cases. My one big complaint is that you cannot use a bluetooth cordless headset to listen to mp3 music/audio.This is something HP needs to upgrade.I would rather not have to switch to a corded headset just to listen to music.

4-0 out of 5 stars some recommendations after using it 1 year
I bought this unit one year ago, and I love it.I have some recommendations about ways to take the best of it:
4-0 out of 5 stars Really good, haven'tfound the perfect PDA yet, but close
If it could do more screens in landscape, especially the internet, it would be a a 10 (out of 5 starts. I like the combination of a useable keyboard and stylus, the battery ife is very long. I don't need a camera. The screen can always be bigger and better, but I was happy with it for business and intrenet use, I'd still have it someone didn'swipe it. I'm likely to buy another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent PDA
This was the first PDA I ever had, and that was a while ago. I still keep it - I've gone through other Palm devices but not a single one had a better handwriting recognition (Giraffe) than this one. Of course it does not have the multimedia capabilities of more modern devices, but it works well with the PalmDesktop software, there were plenty of applications for it, and it excelled in what it was supposed to be - a rodolex with a notepad to scribble thoughts on with a calendar that beeps when your next appointment is due.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Machine
I got this Palm from eBay and I love it. The clear case is really desireable and attractive. At $29.00 usd it is a very good unit. I suggest this for anyone if you are a beginner or even an advanced user of palm pilots. Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars great product, great price
It's good to finally see Palm Pilots come down to a reasonable price. It's also nice to see an alternative to the grey case. I put the color shades on mine (it came with a clear one) to complete the iMac look. The IIIe islight, responsive (you don't have to press down hard to enter information)and very user friendly. Also, don't let the 2mb of memory scare you, youcan fit a surprising amount of info in it. Most third party software iscompatible with the IIIe, so you can expand it's capabilities. Overall,it's definitely worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good pda
i doubt anyone will even ever read this as sony has pulled out of the market, but this is a really solid pda.i need a new one b/c the screen is messed up from dropping it too many times (i am really hard on it).i have really enjoyed it though.as long as i am replacing it, i want a faster processor.66 Mhz is a lot faster than the original palms, and faster than most folks need...but i run some medical software on mine that utilizes every ounce of speed.if you are just a regular user, or relatively new to pdas, you won't be disappointed in this one!be sure to get the cradle that comes with it as it is pretty cool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome hanheld
Awesome palm pilot, great for almost any thing, games, camera, movies. Definetly worth the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best all around PDA out there
This has been one of the better electronics purschases I've made. Memory is great, full of features (MP3 audio is great), no stupid thumb keyboard. I've thought of upgrading just because, but despite being two years old, no other PDA on the market is as functional as the T-665C. The only drawback - no way to add a WiFi card. COme on SOny! The toggle switch on my new e805 broke the second time I moved it from WiFi to off.I sent the unit in under warrenty.Toshiba warrenty department said the mother board must be replaced to fix the toggle switch and is not covered under warrenty. They charged $125.00 to repair unit.I've bought a lot of Toshiba products, this will be the last.5-0 out of 5 stars Works Fine !
I purchased the e805 dispite the bad reviews here and let me tell you mine works fine. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA!!
This is the best PDA i have ever owned! It is versatile, with its unique jog dial, I can select and scroll thru documents with ease, it has a long battery life - between 7 to 12 days for me, if I do not surf the net. The screen is good sized with great colors and resolution.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good product, problems over time
I have had the PEG-TH55 for almost two years now. I have to say that it is a great product, but over time I have had some very frustrating problems.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best PDA? As close as you can get!
The Sony Clie PEG-TH55/U (otherwise known simply as the TH55) is my third PDA. After upgrading to the TH55 after one year with the Clie PEG-SJ22 and six months before that with the Palm Zire, I am not going to switch anytime soon. All of the features I ever wanted in a PDA are crammed into this thin package. The huge screen, tiny profile, and great memory capacity are only the beginning.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Computer Ever Purchased
I received the NEC Mobilepro 780 Portable Computer in the worst condition you can ever imagine a computer being shipped in. I was incredibly angry over the condition of the computer. The seller Jtcamp indicated that the computer was in "very good" condition, however, when I received the device it looked as if someone ran over it with a truck. I would never have purchased this product if I knew that I could receive something in this condition.

4-0 out of 5 stars Miscellaneous
I purchased the MobilePro 780 refurbished from TigerDirect. The first one wouldn't power up but they quickly sent me a new one that works fine. ActiveSync works fine with the serial port on my Windows XP computer. I did purchase a compact flash card that also works fine on the MobilePro. However, I was dismayed to find that it's not possible to store one's contacts and Outlook scheduling info on the CF card--this data must be stored in the ROM. I suppose it's not all that bad, since it's all text data. The MobilePro works fine with the slightly older U.S. Robotics 802.11b wireless card that I installed, too (downloaded the driver from the U.S. Robotics website). You can use it to access email at secure sites like Yahoo with the 128-bit patch that is available for the pocket version of IE.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad little machine
I got this one used for $20 at a garage sale. They didn't know what to use it for.I saw the modem and figured it would be a good portable email computer.Well, it is and it isn't.

This used to be a great device. However, as of Aug. 31, 2004, Palm is discontinuing their Palm.Net wireless service. As the Palm VII cannot be reconfigured to use a different service, the vast majority of its functionality is now gone.If you just need a basic handheld, the Palm VII will still work in this capacity, but there are other devices which work just as well for a lower cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars View Sonic Rocks
I received my view sonic v36 as a gift. At first I was apprehensive of such an electronic device, but soon found many uses for it. It organizes my busy schedule, daily, weekly, and monthly. I use it as an MP3 player, and shoot pictures of my friends. Since the camera is a little slow and doesn't have flash, I normally stick to daylight and people need to remain still. Sometimes the unit doesn't want to turn off, so lately I have been backing up my data so that when I reset the unit, my information will be there. I like personalizing my unit with pictures of my friends on the screen. I also like how windows programs and games came installed on the unit. I have even found out how to download more games. I have had this unit for over a year, and the battery charges just fine. I am going to buy this same unit for a friend of mine. The battery normally lasts for a few hours while I have it on, over a week otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars What else you want.
Most other features will be useless. This Pocket PC records, plays MP3, takes pictures, movies, and most of all manages my busy schedule better than a paper agenda or a laptop. Besides I have been able to find many other professional and practical uses which means a lot when you can actually carry it with you. Like everything you need to be willing to follow the instructions and it will work for you fine without problems. Don't abuse it with extreme memory clutter and soft-restart once in a while. Oh, and make sure your kids don't drop it. For the price, this is the best package. If you are not the concious type, get the old paper agenda out and stop harming these usefull gadgets. Your bad reviews are affecting the industry and at the end it won't be profitable for them to produce such helpful thingys anymore. Maybe we can be nicer and learn how to use the new technology, it is not made of wood, you know? Who knows what have you been doing to it, and please take it off your back pockets before you sit!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's ok, too bad there is so little suport from Microsoft
It works quite well as far as Pocket PC goes. It's a good little unit. I've not have a major problems with the hardware. It's a shame that Microsoft offers so little in the way of support. Too bad. This is my second Pocket PC, and probably the last. Microsoft's online help is pretty much useless, and that's all there is. If you are interested in the basic calendar type of stuff, you will probably be happy. If you need anything beyond that, good luck. The new sub-notebook computers with Windows-XP are so much more capable, why suffer ? I got a new Fujitsu and am very happy with it. It's a shame that the company who wrote the o/s treats it like an unwanted orphan. It's got such a great unrealised potential. I really wish MS would really get behind it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid
My computer came with a CD R/RW drive. Never worked. Dell sent me 2 replacements. Never worked, as confirmed by their own technician. Now they won't respond. I wrote to Michael Dell. He didn't have the courtesy to reply. I wrote to Dell's Board of Directors. They haven't replied. I have bought Dell stuff for a decade now, but will never buy from them again. Buyer beware - if you are sure you will never need technical support, maybe buy from Dell. Otherwise avoid.

1-0 out of 5 stars biggest piece of junk
My Dell Axim is the stupidest $500 I ever spent. It locks up, won't recharge, needs constant tending and the battery life is like that of an insect. If you need this kind of useless equipment, buy another brand.Sure, they ship quickly, but using the Microsoft platform just adds to the problems.

Dell does not make a reliable PDA.I am on my third one and it is now a paperweight.Dell does not support their PDA's so if you do buy one, spend the money for the extended service. In my case, therepair cost was stated at $199 and they would send a factory reconditioned unit. You can buy there bottom end PDA, brand new for $199. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars terrific LITTLE pda
For the size of this PDA it is jam packed!I have read all of these reviews and decided some of the reviewers did not spent enough time and patience with it.I could tell you what each of their problems were. You must also realize that REX is small. If you cant read small print, you wont like it.I have had my 6000 since its introduction almost a year ago.I was one of the first to get mine.I love it dearly and use it daily.I was a previous REX user and find the 6000 the best! If you have trouble with the software there is a solution, because all the other dedicated REXers have made it work. Also note there ARE "addins" available, just not through the manufacturer. There is a whole world of REXers out there. There are many wonderful REX-writing people who have made everything from scientific calculator to tetris game (solitaire and others of course) to expense manager and even a program to write little REX emails on it!These writer gurus are amazing and most addins are available for free download. For the size of the REX, you get a lot. I can not think of anything more I would want it to do!I certainly did not want to tote the large Palm around.REX is the size of a credit card and does almost as much... I am in the process of finding a second just in case anything ever happens to mine!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great PDA, inadequate bundled PIM
Time magazine's "PDAs on a diet" compared the Vista and Rex PDAs.I read the review and quickly changed from the Vista to the Rex 6000.The Rex was like a breath of fresh air, especially when I had to reschedule alarms. The bundled PIM, unfortunately, is more primitive than the Vista's PIM, since the latter allowed drag-and-drop rescheduling and sorting of memo entries by any displayed categories.Guess I'll have to invest in MS Outlook for a flexible PIM.Thanx.5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
It downloads news and other information from the internet.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Usefullish
This card fits into several of the Franklin range I believe , but I used mine in the MWD-1450.(Since they seem to change the numbers for different markets ,this might not be much help not you.)The contents of the card were very useful and I used it a lot in France when travelling. Particularly useful is the fact that you can search ALL the conjugated forms and get back to the root verb. There are also a variety of idiomatic phrases which appear with the key words. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any other way to search for these so it is a bit of a lucky dip. You can store these and favourite words in the memory , however this vanishes when you change the battery. There may be a way to avoid this (perhaps changing the battery in under 0.5 seconds!)but I have not found it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice for multi-media, but that?s about it.
I had come from the Diamond Mako or Psion Revo+ which I had bought for ~$100 a couple of years ago.The Mako had its short comings which was mainly the lack a hi-res color screen and lack of upgradeable memory.I loved the keyboard on the Mako and hardly ever used the stylus. The graffiti always seemed slow to enter data and you always had to pull out the pen so I like the keyboard. The NR70 had a keyboard, a nice screen, and expandable memory.I didn't really care about the MP3 player since it's too big too be conveniently used while on the go.1-0 out of 5 stars warning!
After owning 3 Palms and one Pocket PC (... I kept dropping them), I bought but deeply regret buying a Clie. If you are a heavy user of "tasks" as I am, Clie's performance is so bad the PDA is unusable. When one makes any change in the task (...change date to "tomorrow"), there is about a 5 second delay. For all the Palms this was instantaneous. Change "priority"... same thing. Etc. This renders the Clie unusable.
