Scans well - hard to use images afterwards
I am glad I purchased my Cardscan 700, but there are some significant unfortunate missed opportunities and because of that some important functions cannot be done at all.My impression is that this is the best product on the market, due to its scanning properties, which are quite good.There are some serious deficiencies though in the rest of the software which would be nice to have fixed, and which in some cases render the device somewhat useless, since the output cannot be transferred to a useful place.
Highly Pleased w. Scanner
Simnply stated:it works - and well.I was amazed at how well it interpreted data on many different business cards and correctly assigned the info to the correct fields.In spite of graphics, totally different layouts & other potentially confusing items on the BCs, the Executive 700 made very few errors reading almost 200 cards collectd at a recent trade show.Those arrors were easily corrected durign editing.Finally, integration into Act! 2006 was flawless.It did what it was advertised to do, with few - easy to fix - read errors.When I encountered a small problem setting up the Act synchronization due to a driver issue, their Tech Support was quick, responsive and - most importantly - provided correct info. Works like a charm
My wife purchased this because she is studying for the GRE and GMAT and spending a lot of time looking up words in a dictionary while reading. The amount of time she saves using this pen is amazing. We haven't used any of the software that comes with it and don't really plan to, but for scanning words in books, even relatively small print, it works pretty quickly and has about a 95% correct scan and definition rate. The pronunciation tool works very well too. We were nervous of the price tag, but after using it for a week, I'd say the price is pretty reasonable. It also comes with a convenient carrying case (similar to a cd faceplate case for a car cd player). The only time it doesn't work on a scan is if you don't scan evenly, or if a word is split between two lines with a hyphen. If you use the proper method of scanning, which is pretty self-explanatory, you shouldn't have any trouble. If you're looking for a product to speed up your studying, this is it.

too slow and ugly accuracy
I bought one, and used for only 2 days, and then decided to return it. The turnaround time is too long. Reading speed as well as transfering data to PC is extremely low.
Good product.
The only thing I find that's somewhat negative about this pen is that holding it and seeing where you're "going" is a bit awkward and takes some maneuvering to get book and pen positioned so that it works well.

Very Poor Performance
I bought this product and I wish I had not.In most cases it is much faster and efficient to copy the text by typing than trying to scan it.You will only get a headache.

QuickLink Pen Elite - Neither Quick nor Elite
Was excited to have gotten it but have spent a great deal of time fussing with it. Several issues with this pen: 1) Way to many errors, spend a great deal of time correcting errors, 2)Sometimes doesn't want to communicate with my computer(s), spend way too much time getting it to be recognized, 3)On numerous occasions have lost files I've scanned while communicating with my computer, transferring, and have never been able to retrieve them afterwards. This is especially frustrating after reading, and scanning portions of chapters, instead of using highlight pen or jotting notes, 4) Seems software is still living in the old 16-bit world of dos so naming files is limited to 8 characters. When I read chapters for research, I like to be able to name files something other chap1int,and 5) Tech support seems to be a joke, when I've emailed them on several occasions about problems there response has been: never heard of that problem before, reinstall software.If I had to do over again I think I would have either looked for alternative pen scanner or stuck with the old fashion way.

limited function and misunderstandings
I use it almost since 1999 and the almost all functions described by WizCom work well. It is a usefull and valuable tool . There are 3 drawbacks for advanced users probably like me:
Efficient addition to an abridged dual-language dictionary
The superpen SP1000 is easy to setup and works almost as well as advertised.I have the version that supports bilingual dictionaries.
Good Tool for travellers and students alike
I tried the SuperPen a couple of days back. It is amazing! You can pick up any text in virtially any language, run your SuperPen over it and abracadabra!it is translated to your choice of language. A little speaker will even say it out to ensure you get the correct pronounciation!

Simple and Fast
The pen is somewhat awkward to hold but once you get used to it, then everything is a breeze. Recognition is good (not perfect) and integration with MS Word is seamless. Overall good product.

Perfect Product - nothing less...!
I used the IRIS Pen to scan all the printed text-media I gathered from work last year (about 300 pages of valuable data), in order to put it on a CD rather than having it in form of a huge pile of paper...it took me only 3days! Typing all of that information myself would have been a task unable to finish without this product.

Completely disatisfied...
The iris pen scanner says that it needs a USB port and CD drive.Unfortunately, they failed to mention that most USB drives do not have enough power to run the Iris pen's scanner.I tried 2 computers and called technical support 3 times.Each time it was the same story... not enough power.I told them that I had a brand new, expensive computer with only 2 other USB devices hooked up and he still said it wasn't enough.Anyway, I had to return mine and I would highly suggest looking for another product because the Iris Pen Scanner does not live up to its claims. ... Beware...it doesn't work as advertised
This scanner makes too many errors and is pretty slow.I expected better after reading the other reviews.

Better Than Expected for Macintosh User
This is an early report after owning the pen for a week. I'm an OS X Macintosh user and while we are frequently forgotten when it comes to cool hardware, Iris remembered us...thank you! Frankly the pen works better than I expected it to, especially after reading the occasional negative reviews, which seem to be greatly exaggerated. I was tempted to give the pen a 5-star rating, because what the scanner attempts to do is quite complicated, compared to a flat-bed scanner. The pen scanner must be both smaller and much more intelligent. What holds me back from a 5-star is that the pen is not entirely plug-and-play. If the pen is disconnected from the USB hub, it's my experience that you must reconnect the pen and then restart the computer, or the pen is not recognized. Several times I've needed to restart to get the pen working for me again. The tilting of the pen (which some complain about) is easy, because there's a wide flat surface on the pen that guides the angle. What is important to remember is that you must calibrate in the same light as you scan. My initial frustration at inaccurate scanning was because I had calibrated under a bright lamp light, then proceeded to scan in a way that my hand cast a shadow on the text. After the obligatory restart, and being careful to keep the light consistent on the paper, scanning progressed smoothly, and it seems the unit scans faster than the recommended 1 inch per second. I could hardly believe the reviews that the pen would scan directly into MS Word, but it does, quickly and accurately. One particular font in a book turned a lot of the "e"s into "c"s but a spellcheck corrected those in short order, and I suspect I was going much faster than was recommended at the time. So far, this pen scanner excels at the difficult task of taking notes--a few here, a few there--from textbooks and magazines. A worthy research aid for writers and students.

Bad, bad, bad
Even if I carefully followed the instructions, it was impossible to get a clean text. Almost every word I scanned had one or two mistakes.The time to correct those mistakes amounts to the time it would take to type the text with two fingers, as I always type. great for researchers
The wizcom scanning pen is great for people who do a lot of reading and need to save 1-10 line passages every page or two.
It works, but very slowly
I bought and used the pen for a while just to see if I liked the system.It does work as advertised, but it is too slow to really be of any use.A better choice would be to save the money and spend it on omnipage.I priced things after using the pen and realized that I could buy a better scanner 9x12" with omnipage for under $90.Even the lite version that came with the scanner is better then the pen. Nothing but problems with this card reader
I would NOT recommend this item.I had problem after problem with it and, in the end, it was not useful at all.While the tech support email service was notably quick in responding, their fixes could not salvage this effectively useless product.

Makes completing expense reports really easy
I am a consultant and am self employed and I track exepnses and bill them to my clients - or I lose money. I bought one of these about 3 weeks ago and it's awesome. I have used this scanner for over a year at work and had no problems.It allows to scan page by page anything up to 8.5" wide.It also allows to add comments to both text and pictures.Cut/copy and paste function allows to reproduce portions of the document, including both comments and the scanned 'picture'. And not only in the document itself.You can paste into Word, Excel or PaintBrush, if you wish, as a picture (it comes out big, but can be easily resized). Use some common sense...
GOOD review follows! First, this is NOT the best choice for PERFECT scans of photos or fragile documents. It does a perfectly adequate job with snapshots and newspaper clippings, an EXCEPTIONAL job with color or B/W letter-size material.
