5-0 out of 5 stars Track every juicy detail of your next bicycle ride...
I upgraded to the Edge 305HR after owning the 205 for about 5 months and after deciding that I wanted heart rate information to accompany the wealth of information that was already being captured by the 205.
1-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS, but unreliable HR and speed readings
The Garmin Edge 305 is a very cool looking unit, and the GPS system is useful for anyone who does not know the territory well. However, my particular unit almost constantly displayed inconsistent and highly variable speed and heart rate readings. For example, on a recent recovery ride, during which I road at a pretty steady pace of 15 mph, the unit displayed HR readings that varied between 120 to 247!!! I have also had problems uploading data from the unit to the Training Center and the Motion Based Agent. On one occasion, the data was simply lost; on another, it showed up with the wrong date (even though the Edge 305 itself displayed the correct date).
2-0 out of 5 stars A decent GPS, so-so cyclometer, so-so training tool
I can appreciate Garmin's effort to get into the cycling/training market.BUT.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool mapping gps
I have had no (emphasis NO) software or hardware problems with my unit.I have owned 4 GPS's over the years.I like the user interface on my Garmin eTrex Vista better. But this unit gets faster fixes and works better under trees. It's a 14 channel rather than 12 channel receiver.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS
I was concerned about the negative reviews but bought the eXplorist 600 anyway. Great product, glad I didn't pay attention to the reviews. Works exactly as advertised. Onyl issue I had was downloading Mapsend Topo to the SD card. You have to read the instructions. You can not use the serial number on the box or on the sticker on the GPS...YOU MUST USE THE SERIAL NUMBER SHOWN ON THE GPS UNIT SCREEN FOR THE SOFTWARE TO WORK. A quick call to Magellan customer support (on hold for less than 5 minutes) solved the problem. Glad I bought it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Why did I change my mind?
I was all set to by a Garmin and let myself be talked into buying this.Short and sweet XP Pro doesn't recognize the driver even if you say it's ok.Installs it but, won't use it.That means the GPS will not communicate with the computer.MapSend Direct is also imcompatable with XP Pro so it doesn't matter if it talks to the computer or not.I've sent off my e-mails to Magellan but, I hear their support is sad.I hope my credit card company can help me recover some of my money. The GPS seems to be quite fast, accurate and sensitive...compared to my 8 year old ColorTrak which has no problem with XP Pro. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun little GPS
I've been using GPS devices for nearly 15 years. This device is very cool.If you are planning on using it for Geocaching, consider getting the Magellan Mapsend DirectRoute in the US.I also purchased the Mapsend TOPO thinking that is what would work best for Geocaching.
1-0 out of 5 stars Non-Intuitive and Ultimately Defective
I purchased the Explorist 400 with Mapsend for wilderness travel.Getting the detailed maps set up were far from intuitive, taking several hours to figure it out, and I am computer literate.Once set up, it did function well for four days in backcountry, then the screen froze into tiny dots.I was able to reset it, but since then it cannot effectively pick up satellite signals -- it will find, maybe, one signal even if standing in a clearing.Either the antenna or some other electronic component is defective.A reload of software did nothing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Does what I want. :-)
(This is my first GPS so this is coming from a not so GPS technically inclined person.)

1-0 out of 5 stars Magellan Promised Updates but Didn't Deliver!
We purchased this item two years ago when the item was truly hot on the market. At that time, the Magellan website indicated that regular mapping updates would be available for all the Meridian products. On the contrary, NOT ONE update has been produced, and now we see where the Meridian product line is being discontinued. We would not have purchased a Magellen had we known that mapping updates were not going to be produced as promised. Regularly during the course of two years, we emailed the manufacturer of the Magellan products to inquire about the updates. Our replies continually indicated that the mapping updates were 'on the way.' They never were produced! Basically, our investment is now obsolete with no hopes of mapping updates, Magellan obviously cannot be trusted, and we won't purchase another Magellan product again. With so many companies, including Dell, entering the GPS market, there's no need to invest in Magellan again.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a Bringdown
After losing an older Meridian Marine, I decided to make use of my software and buy this unit since I LOVED the previous model for a few years. When I received this model it seemed to be working fine when I initialized it.It came with antique version 4.02 firmware, marked from 2002.The unit refused all my software (specifically uploading REGIONS off the Topo, Nav, and World Basemap discs) until I upgraded the firmware to anything above v.5. When I tried to install v5.34 from the CD or v. 5.40 which I downloaded, it kept freezing and wouldn'taccept the firmware.I then called tech support (NOT open 24/7!...just California time 6am-5:30pm, weekdays). I spent a total of 3 hours on hold during my 4 phonecalls!!!! The obviously outsourced "tech experts" (trained British accents, probably in Pakistan) then repeatedly walked me thru the same steps to fix the problem as though they were encountering them for the first time!I even got the same guy twice. One said I'd get a callback the next day at 7:30 PM New York time.It never happened. After giving up, one of them transferred me to a "senior-technician" who did no better. After even she gave up, she said she had to look up something and would call me back within 30 minutes. Guess what....It never happened (again)! No matter how great the unit might be, I will never do business again with a sleazy excuse for a professional Company named Magellan (Thales Communications).Even the "worldwide basemap", which I bought the unit for, only gave me an OUTLINE of Panama...no roads, no nothing!!In all my 58 years, with all my toys (boats/radar/stereos,medical electronics, cameras, etc, etc, etc), this is the single WORST response I've ever had to asking for HELP, especially on a BRAND-NEW product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Magellan Color is Tops
This is the 2nd Magellan GPS I own, I also have a 315 series GPS. I had prior experience with GPS's, (my 315 and military GPS's) so it was really easy for me to get comfortable with this unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marriage Saver
I was recently married and our honeymoon included stops at 17 Major League Baseball stadiums that had us driving over 10,000 miles in 31 days.It was the funnest month for both of our lives and we both agree that without this navigation system, things could have been a lot more stressful. We never had to worry if we were taking a wrong exit and never had to stop and stare at a map to figure out where we were at. This or a similar system is a must have if you are planing a road trip and going into unfamiliar areas.
1-0 out of 5 stars Hard to use navigator
Sorry, but I cannot use the interface ... A very competitive price. Bur, I guess I am too used to using the simple Magelan & Garmin products. Sony I notice produce absolutely difficult user interface.
5-0 out of 5 stars Tried them all, like this one
I have had tried all major brands of GPS and even though this one gets a little "weird" some times, I must say it is:

1-0 out of 5 stars Cool product, but fails an essential test - accurate maps!

5-0 out of 5 stars safer driving
The PNI Wayfinder helps me drive safely by showing me the direction I am traveling on the compass-so I make fewer direction errors. The temperature gauge is helpful when the weather turns cold by alerting me to the possibility of ice conditions-helpful in the Pacific Northwest winters.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review of V7000 Wayfinder
After reading the reviews, I decided to take the chance and purchase the above unit for my car. Unfortunately, after calibration and adjustment for local declination, the compass was off 45-60 degrees when compared to known reference points. Recalibration did not change the accuracy. Since then, I purchased a traditional spirit compass which after installing and compensating in the same vehicle performs accurately.

4-0 out of 5 stars I really like my new Wayfinder V7000
Initially I was skeptical about purchasing the device solely due to the reviews of other purchasers.About half were of a negative tone. But, I realized nearly all the negative reviews were of a nature dealing with the technical workings (i.e. calibration, etc.) of the compass and were probably from those who can't program their VCR's.I made the purchase and found the installation to be straightforward; you can make it as easy or difficult as you want.Calibration is simple and quick.I found the compass, thermometer and baraometer/altimeter to be very accurate or as accurate as one could expect. The backlight is sufficient and the light sensor that turns the backlight on automatically in the dark is a very nice feature.Living here in central Virginia our summers are hot and humid so I observe the manufactures suggestion to remove the compass from the vehicle when not in use. It's easy to remember since my cellphone is parked near the compass. One negative point.Calibration is necessary if the device is disconnected/removed from the mounting point.Since I remove it religously each day I am calibrating at least once a day.As a result, the graphic text is starting wear and fade away from the function buttons. All in all, I am very pleased with my Wayfinder V7000. ... This is a decent GPS device and a fine Pocket PC.I'd give it 3.5 stars if possible.
3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate -but could have been great
I bought my PiN 570 in London before starting a 6 week trip around the UK.Being a Kiwi, I thought I'd support the Kiwi product.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS with PDA functions

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention all farmers and ranchers
I have used GPS for years for flying to driving, but a lumber man turned me on to this inexpensive gadget as an invaluable tool for calculating acreage for fertilization or liming of fields. Turn it on, drive around the perimeter of the field you wish to measure, hit the button and it tells you exactly the acreage inside the area. You will pay for it the first time you use it. You will never order more or less than needed again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Used only a few of its features, but it performed great
I bought the Venture back in the summer of 2003 and I was never let down by it.At that time the speedometer on my car went out and as a cheaper alternative to buying the new, expensive gauge cluster for my car, I bought this GPS with a dashboard mount. So this product was used literally every day, sometimes several times a day, and for several hours a day for over 2 years.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS receiver for basic hiking and backpacking.
I returned a Cobra GPS 100 and upgraded to the eTrex Venture for the extra money. What a difference only a few dollars more can make! this is my first GPS unit ever, and I had no problems picking everything up within a day.
