4-0 out of 5 stars needs more detail
You will need to buy Map-source maps ($100+) to make this thing worth the purchase. I needed GPS for boating but the base maps are rudimentary, ie; no inlets, rivers, shoreline detail or lakes. It is although very accurate and easy to use, nice big screen and good reception. If you need GPS now this unit is an excellent value. I payed $199 a month ago and now its $169 but that's my problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product
My husband and father both have this unit. It's really handy to have on road trips and to use while Geocaching. From our experience, it does take a while to download map information onto the unit, and a color screen would be nice, but for $200, I think it's a good value.

4-0 out of 5 stars GPSMAP 76 great value
With the rest of the GPS devices shifting to color, the large b&w screen on this unit means money well spent. It's fast enough for practically any use. I've been using it in South East La. post-Katrina, Where those piney back woods were often blocked by debris. In New Orleans I used it to avoid blocked roads and to mark entry points into closed areas. I live hear, and the suroundings were so disturbed and displaced that even my own home-town was very disorienting. The backtrackand routemaking features arelifesavers. The screen is easy to read. The low draining B&W screen also allows longer battery life compared with other color units I've used. Looking for a dashboard mount and auto power adapter right now. A photojournalist, I keep it in my camera bag. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid No-Frills Compass (at Good Price)
Compass worked wonderfully for my trip around New England this summer. Only reason I don't give it 5 stars is for want of a backlight for night driving. Remember to moisten the suction cups before adhering to the window. I forgot the first time and it popped off 10 minutes later. Never came off again the whole trip after I moistened them.Worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Digital Compass
Works great...I have it attached to my motorcycle and love it.Very simple to set up and start using, acurate and with the auto shut off, very practical.

4-0 out of 5 stars PNI V100 Value that exceeds price
I recently purchased a PNI V100 Digital Compass for my father for Father's Day. I found that the compass is so sensitive that it reads more accurately that my GPS unit that cost me several hundred dollars. I have since bought one for myself as well. For the price and if all you need to know is which direction you are heading, this compass can't be beat! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT compatible
I am not a tech 'saavy" person.I found it extremely dificult to begin using my unit.I wasted HOURS of my life on hold and on the phone with tech support trying to trouble shoot the problems. The first dude was okay helpful, but it didn't matter, because after a 62 minute phone call (including 30 minutes of hold time) still the unit was not functioning. The next 2 cust service people decided that it could be the cord, so each of them sent me out a new cord- which was not the problem. The next dude was much more knowledgeable and we found out that my processor, because it is not intel, was not compatable-that is after I also found out that the disc they send is DVD, not CD, so I was already using my daughters computer to attempt to load the disc.So in the end, I was able to copy the DVD onto the hard drive then copy to the card reader. But of course, I have still not loaded active sync and therefore I cannot back up or save any contact or calender info.I was told from Garmin that if the batteries die then all your contact and calender info is deleted.I can buy an additional backup system and back the info up to the SD card, but I will have to borrow a friend's compatible computer to do that!!!!
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea but buggy software
I bought this unit as a gift for my wife. We already have a Garmin GPS unit that we love and she had a need for PDA functionality so this seemed ideal.
5-0 out of 5 stars I love it
This is better than I expected with large software interface buttons and loud speaker. The only thing is...if you are not familiar with GPS devices, it may take you a little while to figure out how the antenna aquires a signal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Garmin C530 Is "State of the Art"
This GPS Garmin C530 (along with The Garmin Nuvi 350 for $130 more) is "state of the art".It is so because it has a "Sirf Receiver" that is more sensitive in acquiring satellites than "normal" receivers. The reveiws on this web site are incorrect about the maps---this one has the latest version 8 maps available. This one is better than the Garmin 340, 330 and 320 because it is brighter and, once again, it has The Sirf receiver. And, it costs about the same as the C340 which makes it a good deal!Is it worth the extra money as compared with the 320 and 330.Yes, because if your GPS won't "acquire a satellite" it is worthless. If amazon allows you to write I will tell you where you can get one for about $450.Email: boland7214@aol. I highly recommend this GPS.
4-0 out of 5 stars Quick, simple, reliable
I have never used a GPS before. I cannot give you the elaborate comparisons or insights that others will provide.I purchased this system and began to use it 5 days ago.I love it.It found the satellite in less than a minute and has consistently done so.I live in a rural area with many tree covered roads.I own a sirius radio receiver and, from time to time, momentarily lose the signal. This has not happened thus far with the c530.The touch screen is extremely easy to use and the questioning system is a breeze.I have used it two times to drive over an hour from home to places I've never been and it has been stress free and spot on.I honestly don't care about finding businesses, restaurants, hotels, etc.Maybe I will in time, but I'm just too new at it now.I bought it to stop the aggravation of getting lost and the flaws of depending on mapquest.I am completely satisfied and have no regrets at all.The voice directions are clear and given in plenty of time to make the turns. The estimated arrival times are accurate within one minute, and recalculation if you choose a different path are immediate.I'm someone who didn't want a lot of bells and whistles, but I also wanted something very simple to use. There may be better ones out there, but I am very satisfied with my purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars Check how features differ from c550 and c340
I was pleased to try out the C530 today when I received it and happy with it's overall performance, but am stumped as to why Garmin would leave out the ability to announce street names in the directions like the previous model c340.I would consider that part of the core software and part of all future and more expensive models.I was very disapointed to find that my c530 lacks this ability though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy Traveler
We love this thing! We bought it for a cross country vacation, and it was a dream. It'd find us in the middle of nowhere, and we never got lost.It took a few resets in the beginning to recognize our iPod, keep the correct time, and generally behave; but it's been operating flawlessly for the last 9 weeks or so.We fondly call our 510 "Mikey", after the cockney-accent custom voice we downloaded. It's removed alot of stress from car travel.

5-0 out of 5 stars A really remarkable accomplishment; but ....
I have been using my TT 510 for more than a month, with over 2000 miles of local and cross-country travel, mostly without the need for a map.Our family now has three of them, all working properly right out of the box, and we love them. 5-0 out of 5 stars GPS
a tool I will never agian be without FANTASTIC!

1-0 out of 5 stars Crappy Service From Garmin
When it works it is great.Unfortunately, I lost the lottery.Mine takes 20 minutes to get it to boot up.And if you have never wanted to kill someone, trying to get help from Garmin will turn you into a serial killer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Navigator
Over the past 5 years I have owned and used Kenwood Navigator ($3000), DeLorme Navigator, Microsoft Streets & Trips w GPS; all unsatisfactory. The Garmin 7200 tops them all.I would have to nit-pick to field any complaints about this product.Easy to set up and easy to use.No annoying behaviors.

4-0 out of 5 stars DC power plug blows fuse
I have the streetpilot 7200 and I like it very much. Talked my girl friend into getting one and found a glich when connecting the 12 vdc power plug. She has a 94' Ford Tarus with the conventional cigarette lighter socket. When inserting the gps 12 vdc plug into her cigarette socket the fuse blows. This was also the case when I used my unit to verify problem. It also will blow the fuse without the gps unit attached. Using a multimeter I found that if the tip of the plug is recessed flush with the plug body it shorts out the fuse. My Honda civic 06' model has a accessory plug and this does not occur. The design of this power plug for older cars is faulty. I temporary corrected the problem by inserting a rubber washer to fit inside the socket to prevent the plug from being inserted to the depth that would allow the tip and the body to be flush resulting in a short circuit! Washer size: 7/8"od x 3/8"id x 1/8"h. UPDATE: Garmin shipped us 2 new cables via overnight delivery. They worked great. It's refreshing to see a company that backs up their products. They were very professional and polite. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended
I purchased the Rino 120 about a year ago.It has been on many trips with me.I have had it attached to my camel pack while mountain biking and hiking. It has been through several crashes on the bike with me.While Geocaching, I dropped it into a stream.I snatched it back up, and found it to be operating perfectly.I have had this on the outside of my pack during light to heavy rain, with no problems.I can do many trips on a set of batteries.I use it often when 4X4'ing with my Jeep.I'll preset coordinates for intersections or points of interest, and it keeps me right on.When Geocaching, it has always led me within a few feet of cache.
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost there ...
The Rino 120 is VERY easy to use.It has many user-friendly options, and it does not require vast knowledge of global positioning.I did not give this product 5 stars because of the need to purchase additional detailed maps, and the only choice of them being US and Canadian maps (I live overseas and travel world-wide).I really enjoy the integrated 2-way communications capabilities -- it has enhanced the scope of my own employment performance.

3-0 out of 5 stars 'Waterproof' It's Not!
The Rino 120 manual says this: "The Rino 120 is waterproof to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards [30 minutes at 1 meter depth] and is rugged enough to endure the most trying use."My experience was otherwise, and the Garmin response was troubling.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment
I travel a great deal for work and the directions you pull online often are not very accurate. As a result I decided to invest in GPS.I did alot of research and settled on this unit based on the price and the reviews.Overall I am happy with the purchase. This unit is small enough that I can bring it on a plane and use it in rental cars. The maps are easy to lose and pretty accurate. The storage is sufficient for what I need it for.It is easy to set up and program. There are units out there with more "bells and whistles"- but for the price this unit does the job well.

3-0 out of 5 stars good product but I like Garmin i3 street pilot better.
This a good GPS, but only good.It is fairly inexpensive and very portable. However, my father has the Garmin i3 Street Pilot and I feel that it is a better option.Even though the Quest has more option than the i3, it is so hard to navigate through that most people will not even use those options. The i3 is simple to use, quick and does the job.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Product, But Garmin has TERRIBLE Customer Service
I have a problem with mine, and I have tried to call their CS line 6 times, and all 6 times I was put on hold for over 45 minutes.I finally gave up. In fact, once I left the room, and came back 90 minutes later, and I was still on hold.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good, basic compass
This is a perfect companion for basic hikes. Not fancy, easy to slip into your pocket, easy to read...it performs the job of a basic compass very well. For the price, this is an excellent buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great compass for the price
Of course this compass isn't made for exacting surveying work or the such. For that, get a super-nice expensive one. But for the average hiker, camper, or young person wanting to basically know which way is which, this is a great compass to buy.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good, basic compass
The Brunton Classic is a straightforward, easy-to-use, low-cost compass that works well in the outdoors. It is a bit clunky-looking and a little bulky in your pocket, but you will appreciate that fact in cold weather when you are wearing gloves. It comes with a TRUE declination adjustment that moves the north reference indicator to the desired declination. This is much better than some of the least expensive compasses that claim to have a declination adjustment but really don't.(They require you to manually offset the needle from the north reference indicator to achieve it, something you don't want to have to struggle with when you are exhausted after hiking for 10 hours.)The Brunton doesn't need a tool to adjust declination, which they claim as an advantage. In contrast, Suunto compasses use a tiny screwdriver attached to the lanyard to make the adjustment.Personally, I like the screwdriver adjustment as being more accurate and less likely to be accidentally moved, but they both work equally well. The bearing markings silkscreened onto the Brunton's dial are not as fine-ruled as the Suunto so you can't get quite as precise a readout, but the difference is insignificant in most cases.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great device!
I bought the V2000 last year and it has worked great since then. The compass has always given me accurate directions and has lasted through one winter and one summer so far.I always left my V2000 in the vehicle, although the manual did state that you should take the device with you when the temperature is hot.The V2000 has visible at all situations.I can see it clearly in the dark with the V2000's automatic backlight, and see it clearly on a sunny day.Finding a good place to put the temperature probe, however, is a hassle if you want to get accurate results.Calibration was also a hassle for me.You have to be on leveled ground and make a fairly even circle in order to get accurate readings.

4-0 out of 5 stars so far, so good
Got the item on time.Cost was good.So far it works well.No complaints and would buy from this company again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Always Getting Lost
I am continually getting lost when I'm in unfamiliar territory.Even when I'm SURE I'm going in the right direction, there's always a nagging thought that I'm not. This compass isn't close to telling you where you're going, it's dead-on.My car has an outside temperature gauge and an inside thermostat, so I don't care about the temperature features.Beside, there's no fear if you don't know the temp; there is a fear when you don't know where you're going.Classy looking gadget. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great value!
I just bought this, and for the price it really can't be beat. I have a Garmin Nuvi 350, which is also a great product, but for the price the Navman ICN 530 is a better value.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent with a couple limitations
I've tried a bunch of GPSes in my quest for the perfect device. This one fits most of the criteria. Specifically, its good points are:
4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the money
This is my first GPS nav. This unit has its share of problems but on balance I think it compares favorably with Garmin 300 series and other similarly priced units. The database of points of interest is not accurate nor complete.I understand that this is pretty common and that there are only two companies that actually research and release the map data.I expected this but was still dissapointed. The categories of points of interest included are very extensive but it failed to show a half dozen gas stations within a few miles of my home, a restaurant that has been open for 15 years, and my apartment complex's (open for at least 7 years) roads. Many, Many points of interest are incorrectly listed under a nearby suburban city.Once you do find a place on the map, either an address or POI the unit seems to give fantastic directions to get you there.Satelite lockon is VERY VERY quick, scarcely over 15 seconds and the voice prompt volume is adequate but could be a bit louder. The screen brightness is good but does get washed out in direct sunlight. The interface is counterintuitive but fairly simple and easy to get use to.The unit has an auto mode for changing display contrast and background colors and for illuminating the buttons at night. The illumination is a warm blue, pretty nice.Auto mode works well but sometimes lags for several minutes or requires that you enter the menu to get it to change from night to day.The window suction cup mount is ingenious and sturdy, the GPS light and slim and the accessories, pc software and really handy remote make this an excellent value.I was surprised that I could not find a single review of this unit with its impressive price point and features.Hopefully this review will help.A word of caution though, I have not used any other GPS navs and its difficult to compare them. One thing is for sure this is probably not a dud unless point of interest completeness and accuracy is important to you. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as anticipated
I had another vendors GPS and the cord was shorting out and had a protection plan. When I went to have the cord replaced the store no longer carried the brand and I would be entitled to a new unit.A comparable unit was the Garmin C550.After some time I decided to get this unit. After getting it home and checking it out further I hooked it up and it would not acquire satelites after 45 minutes.I took it backand enroute it finally acquired the satelites.I returned home. The next day after over an hour it never did acquire satelites so I returned it for another. This one did acquire satelites.Since I was going on a driving trip I was anxious to use this GPS.Well enroute to our destination it had us turn off the interstate and go through some local roads for no apparent reason.I just returned to the interstate even though the unit was not directing us to do so.Then we were going to a specific location and it was off by more than 2 miles as to the actual location. On the return trip it took us to an old 2 lane curve laden road to arrive at a destination. This road, in my opinion, would not be able to be traveled by anything bigger that a car.Luckily I was not driving the RV or I would have never been able to naviate this road. My older unit had some features I would like to see on this unit such as, selecting the use of toll roads or not, the screen identifying the direction of the next turn so you do not have to wait until you are .3 miles from the turn.I will continue to use this unit but I did buy another protection plan with this unit allowing me to exchange it.Time will tell how this unit performs.Hopefully Garmin will update the software to satisfy user comments about the unit.

2-0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this unit
I did quite a bit of research and after reading a lot of positive reviews, I decided to go with the c550.First, i'll start with the positives. Nice looking unit.Small enough to put in your pocket yet large enough to be seen on the dash board. The suction cup mount was easy to install and since I only had the unit a week, I didnt have the problem of it falling off like others said in their reviews. The unit was very intuitive to use, the touch screen was nice and no problems with it.I never used the mp3 player or the blue tooth options. However, the sample songs in it sounded horrible, like it was playing on an old transitor radio.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Driving helper
I've had the c550 for 2 months and SEVERAL road trips. In addition to just telling you how to get to your address (or city, or intersection), it also tells you hotels (with phone numbers), restaurants, entertainment, auto services, etc. along your route OR at your destination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent mini GPS for Military use
I have been using the Foretrex 201 for over a year in Iraq. This mini GPS is an excellent peice of equipment that gives you that essential ten figure grid on the move whenever you need it, without having to physically pull it out of a pocket. It also has a basic but functional track system which memorises your routes between your own inputted points. Its simplicity, generous functions and potentially life saving feature of just like being another watch, make this an essential peice of equipment for those of you who need to know exactly where they are at the flick of a wrist.awesome, would'nt go out without it

5-0 out of 5 stars Powered Paraglider Flyer
I love this GPS.The GOTO function is especially usefull, I set the GOTO point to my LZ and off I go, just flying around without having to keep track of where I'm going.I just enjoy the scenery and when it's time to return this little gem tells me which way to fly to the LZ.I have distance and time to destination on the GOTO screen, that way I know if the fuel I have left will get me to the LZ based on the known consumption of my motor, or if I have to start looking for an alternate LZ close to the road for easy retreival.Other screen is configured to show altitude, ground speed and vertical speed as well as Lat and Long.
1-0 out of 5 stars Garmin Forerunner 201 not for rural use
My kids and I recently purchased the Forerunner 201 as a Father's Day gift for my running husband. He was thrilled after reading the product information! He immediately followed the simple set up directions, and away he ran a few hours later! Unfortunately, the unit just could not maintain a gps signal, and the little bit of information gained was useless and inaccurate. We called Garmin after a few more unsuccessful runs, and the technician on the phone suggested it might be a faulty unit. Amazon quickly sent a replacement. (Yippee for Amazon!)

Editorial Review

Garmin jumps on the wireless bandwagon with its GPS 10 Deluxe, a GPS receiver that communicates with Bluetooth-enabled Pocket PCs and PC laptops to allow easy, intuitive navigating. Unlike GPS devices with built-in screens, the GPS 10 Deluxe displays its mapping and navigational data on your mobile computer's monitor, ensuring superior close-up detail, more memory storage, and faster operation than with traditional navigators. And because it's wireless, users won't have to futz with cumbersome cables that get in the way each time they need to move the laptop or reposition the receiver. The cable-free solution is ideal for cars and trucks, as the device installs via the included magnetic or Velcro mounts, or even outside the vehicle should users need a clear path to the satellites. It's also waterproof, so it can withstand nasty weather and poor conditions.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not road warrior friendly
The GPS unit is extremely sturdy, the magnetic mount is perfect, and the power adapter plug cover thingy is lost already (I've owned for a month).
4-0 out of 5 stars GPS 10 - Good Unit With Some Shortcomings
The bluetooth GPS device works well. The fact that it is weather resistant and has a strong magnet for holding it on the roof of your car adds to the versatility. However, the plug which weather proofs the connector socket when it is not being charged is not attached and very easy to lose. Also, the software for use with PDAs and phones does not allow you to plan a trip on your desktop or laptop and then download routes and waypoints to the phone. With that caveat, overall operation is excellent.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth The money
I wanted to thank amazon for their quick response to my first order not arriving. within a week they sent me another. I have been using it everyday, and have not gotton lost. I install wood flooring in NJ PA NY, works like a charm. I use it with my palm treo 700P. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A multi-functional GPS wonder, But....
A multi-functional GPS wonder, But... be sure and have a hefty stack of money if you want all the maps, bells and whistles that make this unit so remarkable.Lets start with the main reason I purchased the 276c, for my boat. The Blue Chart marine maps combined with the flexability of the unit makes even complex marine navigation a snap. The large screen allows me to see my position on the water at a glance. Even in areas that are wrought with hazards and multiple channel markers the screen shows everything I need to know to safely navigate at any sunlight angle. When I moved it to my car, I enjoyed the same features that made it great on the water. The turn by turn routing (with voice) and the big screen worked flawlessly. Using it for land nav was also enjoyable except for the size of the unit making it a bit cumbersome.Regarding other peoples complaints about Garmins tight hold on its pricey mapping products, Well they are in business to make money, they have great map products, and you usually get what you pay for. Overall I am very pleased with this product, with the only real downside being the high cost of obtaining all the additional "proprietary" goodies you need to flesh the system out for multiple usage. Again you get what you pay for and for the price I would say that this is one of the finer GPS units on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin 276C - excellent !
I am very pleased. I use the unit on a motorcycle and it has met my expectations so far. Easy to use menus. Easy to see screen. Very satisfied. Only complaint is maps are too expensive. $ 75 for a CD ?

2-0 out of 5 stars Playing by Garmin's Rules
If you purchase a Garmin product, especially this one, you are firmly in the clutches of a Company that gives you what they want you to have, not what you might want. Everything Garmin makes is proprietary so that nothing else will work on a Garmin. You will be unable to transfer data to Garmin media, you will be insulted by a website either written by or for aliens and should you call the customer service or cartography lines assuming you wish to wait and wait, you will get to talk to people so uninformed about Garmin products your wait was wasted. The dingus works ok with Garmin chips, but the chips are inadequate or incomplete.

5-0 out of 5 stars My little orange pal
I bought my eXplorist over a year ago when my etrex got eaten by a goat - really I have the photos. Anyway, I never liked the etrex because I use GPS units primarily to take lat/lon readings in decimel degrees and it was very difficult to read the tiny numbers on the etrex. The eXplorist is much better in that respect and many others.
1-0 out of 5 stars displeasure with the bike/motorcycle mount
I was very dissapointed with the mount that was stated for use on a motorcycle/bike/atv. My explorist 200 was lost during a ride due to the fact that the mount is totally unsuitable for any type of bike mounting because it does not hold the unit well . Had it a velcrow or other type fastener to securely hold the unit to the mount then maybe I may have still had my navigator to enjoy. The only thing my mount is good for now is to remind me not to purchase another Magellan product. I cant even use the mount as a cup or can holder.

5-0 out of 5 stars simple & easy

2-0 out of 5 stars Better available
This compass handles very poorly compared to other manufacturers. The pin for the lid is cheap and the hing will likely break. The card (actual compass part that spins) wobbles a lot so it's difficult to get an exact bearing. It is like the oil in the compass is very thin. Also, the direction line lid spins easily, making it possible to take a bad reading.Ironically, this is the Silva weakness as well.
4-0 out of 5 stars decent enough for a compass
I must admit I like it.The compass is very precise and the brass case feels nicer to hold than a plastic case.Outside of that, the compass does and feels like it should.I would, however, recommend a cheaper plastic cased compass for those who don't use a compass that often.Enough said.

3-0 out of 5 stars a bit bulky and old school but
sturdy and well built...I can't fault it but I would not buy another. ... Read more
