2-0 out of 5 stars Crash Test Dummy
In Dec 04 received one as a present. In June 05 it started shutting off on its own and then stopped turning on all together. Lost a weeks worth of sailing and diving in the Bahamas. Returned it to the store, bought a new one. It was handy and familiar thought I would give it another try. Since then it has dumped my saved Points of Interest THREE times. Now the other day it crashed and defaulted to to a screen called "Burn In Test". Fortunately it did this after I copied off my latest Points of Interest. Now I have a Garmin eTrek Legend.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good
this is my first GPS, its working very well for me, u can trace the way your walking then inverse it to find your way back, you can convert the trace into routes, it has the usa map, but the map wont work in mexico, it will only give you the main roads of the country. good stuff

5-0 out of 5 stars good for what it is
I see a lot of reviews saying, "Good entry level GPS!" I do not agree with this statement at all. With a GPS you should always START with the best one you can afford that does what you need. That way you are not buying one to practice on just to realize you need another one. Then you are out of $100 for your "entry level" and $400 for the fancy pants Garmin. I own two GPS systems which are exactly what I need for the applications I use them for. If you need to do these things and nothing else. Buy this one and don't worry that you cannot monitor barometric pressure (I am a meteorologist and I don't need a barometer or a thermometer). Here is what this one will do wonderfully for you. If you are anywhere and you get lost. This one will easily get you to a city, lake, river, interstate, highway, or major road.My main reason for this is to save locations for future use such as: good fishing spots, tree stands for hunting, important businesses, etc. What makes this GPS so practical is it's simplicity. You cannot load a bunch of useless stuff on here that will just slow it down. Who really needs topo? What is great about hiking is NOT knowing what is over the next hill. Another great thing about this unit is it is light weight. I backpack with a lot of folks, some of which are scared of anything that weighs over half a pound. These same folks haul a huge, heavy GPS handheld in their backpack and never use it the whole trip! Another cool thing you can use this GPS for is bicycle and motorcycle application. It is easily mountable on a bike. The screen is large enough to be easily read on the go and the backlight works well at night. It won't hurt this thing if you crash either. It is built like a tank. If it starts to rain, you do not have to worry because it is almost totally waterproof. In everyday application, I keep this thing in my cargo pocket. If I find a neat store or a great view along a mountain road I can quickly save the spot, give it a name, and cool little icon from the list. For everyday use I would recommend this to anyone other than a civil engineer on a job site. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS
Finally, the perfect handheld GPS. The addition of microSD cards to the eTrex line has made the ultra portable unit the perfect companion to carry with you on all your adventures - land, sea, or trail. Although the unit comes with a 64mb card, I purchased two 1gb cards. When you own a Garmin Mapsource product, you are allowed to use it on up to two units. I already own Recreational Lakes and Fishing Hotspots, as well as CitySelect which came with my Garmin GPS V Deluxe which I still use all the time locally in my Jeep and on one boat because of the mounting ability and NMEA output. The GPS V, however, is limited to 19mb and is now utilized in the regions I most frequent. Unlocking CitySelect for the eTrex Legend Cx was simple at the Garmin website. I would recommend first updating the software in the unit to the latest version, which is now just a few keystrokes with Garmin's Webupdater software downloaded from their site to handle the large capacity cards. On one card, I have Recreational Lakes East and CitySelect for the entire Northeast and MidAtlantic regions. On the other card I have the remainder of the US and Canada. The cards are smaller than the fingernail of your little finger. The eTrex Legend allows you to enable all or whichever Mapsource products you want. When not using it on the road, I disable the CitySelect to take full advantage of the Recreational Lakes software. If you do not own a mapsource product already, then purchase CityNavigator which I believe Garmin has updated the most for the points of interest and new roadways.
5-0 out of 5 stars great little versatile unit!
I found this to be the perfect balance between portability and car usage. It's bright enough and colorful in the car, yet small enough to carry around with you on a hiking trail. It takes a while to get a signal when it's starting cold, however, after that, say, if you turn it off to run into a gas station and then come right back out, it pops right up. Looses signal when amongst tall skyscrapers and under heavy duty forested trees, but I still gave it a 5 star review because that is to be expected.
3-0 out of 5 stars move up from the original legend
I had the original legend and was not happy with the display.I was hoping to have the same unit with color and a few more options. The new unit will not share the power cord and you do not get half of the bike mount.I am also not happy that the speed no longer displays on the map page.

4-0 out of 5 stars Survived driving in Italy
I just got back from a two week trip to Italy where I rented a car and drove from Sorrento to Siena. I also drove throughout the Tuscany region of Italy. I couldn't imagine driving in Italy without my Garmin 60Cx. I also used it for our walking tours in Rome. The only problems I encountered were with unexpected detours because of closed roads due to construction. Luckily I also had a good road map and directions for backup. I was amazed with the accuracy of the GPS especially when navigating through the numerous round-abouts and dirt roads that didn't appear on my road maps. I agree with all the previous reviews regarding the 60Cx - fast response, nice color display, versatility, etc. I also recommend purchasing the North American package that includes very useful accessories. The only reason I did not give this product a five star rating is the high cost of the roadmap software from Garmin.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for local / regional travel - not enough memory for long trips
I just returned from a trip to Europe. For our trip we flew in to Rome, drove to a rural area an hour outside Florence, spent a week there and drove to Florence, then on to Parma, the Loire valley and finally on to Paris. I purchased this unit and the Garmin MapSource European City Navigator v8 [CD-ROM] and offer the following comments.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great unit but WEAK volume
Had to upgrade to the 60Cx from the 60CS due to the larger map file sizes discovered after upgrading to the new City Navigator North America version 8 software. Aside from having to buy a new unit, the 60Cx has a very weak alert tone volume. I rely on the tones to alert me to an upcoming route change, but the volume of the tones is so low, that if you have the stereo on, or are talking on a cell phone, you might not hear the tone. You'd think that Garmin could put a decent speaker in the unit and provide some way to increase or decrease the volume output. Believe it or not the volume of the 60CS was louder than the 60Cx, although still way too weak.

Knowledge is power, and thanks to the advanced technology packed into the Garmin StreetPilot 2730, you'll get plenty of both. The big news about this model in comparison to its predecessor, the 2720, is the addition of XM radio capabilities. With a subscription to XM radio services, you'll get real-time XM NavTraffic, XM WX Weather, and XM Radio service. What does all that mean? When coupled with Garmin's legendary GPS technology, it means you'll always know not only exactly where you are, and but also what lies ahead.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe I'm Missing something
I've used the Garmin GPS III handheld unit for years and one of the map features I always appreciated was that Interstate rest stops were on every map.Everything works great with the 2730 Street Pilot and the XM radio feature is fine but do I really need to know there are 6 grass strip airports within a 5 mile radius? Are the rest stops somewhere in the POI's that I have missed?

4-0 out of 5 stars Motorcycle friendly GPS
I had been searching the various GPS manufacturers for awhile before settling on the 2730. I recently took a motorcycle trip to Wyoming from NY and had this GPS mounted on the handlebars. Very well made unit that made my trip much more enjoyable. I purchased this particular unit over others by TomTom and Garmin because I liked the XM weather/traffic/radio combination more than the bluetooth capability of the 'rider' and the 2820 (although the 2820 offers XM also, it does not supply the antenna as the 2730 does). Being able to answer the phone on my bike doesn't seem the safest option, and I had heard that the bluetooth headsets don't have quite the sound quality I would want for traffic/music.
5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin Streetpilot 2730
This is the best GPS I have ever owned. The only drawback I can find is the maps are not up to date and I have downloaded all the updates. Garmin needs to update their maps otherwise this thing is GREAT. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not up to par with other Magellans
I have had a few GPS units in my car.My last a Magellan 700 roadmate was stolen from my car and so I decided to get this unit.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS, Poor mount
I have had this GPS for about a month, and it is extremely easy to use and had minimal set up.So far it has gotten me about 20 places with pretty good directions. The only problem I can see with it is with the cheap design of the mounting hardware.Mine is already broken and I have resorted to industrial strength velcro on the dash.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked right out of the box
This was the first remanufactured electronic device that I purchased but Amazon and Magellan are reputable companies and the price was unbelievable.I had used the Hertz NeverLost version so I just had to plug it in and it was ready to use.The user interface is very intuitive and the touch screen makes it even easier to use.It works great in the Los Angeles area and I plan to use it along the entire west coast. The unit came with the latest software already loaded and was in brand new condition. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I'm so happy with my Garmin i2.Its a reliable little companion on my trips and I will never again drive for hours on unknown roads getting further and further from my destination. The Garmin always gets me where I need to go.Bravo!

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical hints and observations for buyers
I've had the i2 for a few days only now. When buying, my main decision was between the i2, i3, and i5. I considered other models on the market too expensive. The i2 is monochrome with no maps installed, the i3 is color with no maps installed, and the i5 is color with maps preinstalled. Does color make a difference? Does preinstalled maps make a difference? After buying the i2, I feel I am not missing out on anything. Here are some practical suggestions:
5-0 out of 5 stars works as good as any I have tried, better than most
Have had unit since November, 2005, so a longer term review here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
I just took this unit on a 5000 mile road trip from Chicago to San Antonio, to Phoenix and back. The unit was worth the price, especially for finding routes off the interstate system.
1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
Looks nice but i had to return it because of constant glitches. Instead, I got a Garmin Nuvi which costs more but is well worth the money. You get what you pay for!

4-0 out of 5 stars Needs some tweaking, but all around a great nav system.
I've been using my TomTom ONE for a week and a half or so and overall, I'm quite happy with it.Out of the box or after having been moved a significant distance while off, the unit takes about a minute or so at most to determine its position. From a warm start, it's usually a matter of seconds.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice unit, bad documentation
This is my first GPS unit. I bought it mostly for hiking around in the wilderness, as well as measuring my speed while in a car (it is more accurate than a typical speedometer, like 1/10 of a MPH in the right conditions).
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value
Very happy with unit, in my opinion the best value out there. upgraded from garmin etrex legend, night and day difference

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than i thought it would be..
After careful evaluation of several reviews I chose this gps as the one to buy and Im glad I did. I also purchased mapsource US Topo to go with it, for back country hiking, driving or just knowing where you are it will do everything you could ask of a gps. It is accurate down to 7' which isnt bad, itll tell you elevation, speed, verticle speed, direction and a whole lot more. My only gripe is the little screen but I have excellent vision so its not that bad, however someone with bad eyes may find it a stuggle to read the screen if you have the device on the dash of a car while driving down a country dirt road, I love this thing. Dont buy the vista or legend buy this, then by the 512mb card to go into it and then get mapsource US Topo and youll be set. Oh ya, one more thing, more than half of the United States will fit on the 512mb card with detail on high! NICE!~!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good unit but not in the Southwest
This is a great unit overall, but the rubber bumper around the edge of the unit is a real problem for those of us who live in the Southwest. It appears that exposure to the sun and heat causes the adhesive to disintegrate.I have had my unit since April 2004 and in just over two years, it had to be repaired twice for the same problem.I have spoken with a local Garmin dealer who confirmed that other Vistas (and similar models) have this chronic problem.Neither the dealer nor the Garmin can offer any solution but to send it in and pay for out-of-warranty repair of $125.They have no recommendation for adhesives.I have written to Garmin and have not received a response.I think this is a serious design flaw that Garmin has failed to address.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good feature set, but the well known flaw is very annoying, especially given the price
If you want a GPS unit for backpacking, this one (or the newer color version) has among the best feature sets.Downloadable maps, an altimeter, an electronic compass, etc. It's a Cadillac, unless you step up from the eTrex line to something beautiful but horrendously expensive like the GPSMAP 76CSx (super duper Cadillac). However, a few things need to be kept in mind.
4-0 out of 5 stars Use This Device For Geocaching & Love It!!!
