4-0 out of 5 stars Good Enough for My Navigation
Generally a really easy to use and great functioning product. Right out of the box everything was easy to learn and pick up.
1-0 out of 5 stars GPS is Off - don't they test these things?
I recieved my new nuvi 350 today, and went out to try it in my convertable, top down. With the antenna up, the device contined to display "GPS is Off" during my entire drive. The user manual (in the device memory) and Garmin web sit FAQ were of no help. So much for my having a GPS to help me navigate on my trip next week. Doesn't Garmin even test these things before they ship out of Taiwan?

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
This is a very good product. It works very well during my recent trip in CA and has all the pros mentioned by other reviewer. Here are the cons:

5-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS unit
I have only had this unit for a week, been using it all the time around town.
5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding GPS
I've only had my Nuvi 660 a couple of days but I have say I'm extremely pleased with my "road tests" so far. The screen is big and bright, the audio is loud enough to use with the windows down, the touch-screen controls are very intuitive, and the screen update speed is more than adequate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Using the Nuvi 660 in the UK
I just returned from England where I used the Nuvi 660 extensivly with the UK SD card (requires separate purchase). My business partners were incredibly impressed with the accuracy and detail of this unit.It was excellent in locating gas stations, hotels and even a McDonalds for an early morning coffee. At one point the driver missed a turn in a roundabout and the Nuvi immediately rerouted us down what was basically a remote back country road that we would never have even considered to get us back on track very quickly. This unit is truly 'State of the Art'. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Early disappiontment
I decided to purchase the c330 based upon many positive reviews supposedly written by other satisfied customers. The unit did arrive from Amazon on schedule. The ease of operation and graphics are outstanding (I am electronically challenged) as others had mentioned. However, in test runs in our neighborhood, the unit twice attempted to route us on roads that have been closed for 10+ years. This, of course, would be a major problem in an unfamiliar area at night. Also, the local Applebee's was shown as being 0.5 mile from its actual location. We plan to take a trip of close to 1000 miles this week.If my opinion of the actual navigational value of the unit imporves, I will submit an amended review.

    5-0 out of 5 stars no-brainer!
This unit can be used by anyone in just a few minutes right out of the box.I was amazed! The detail of side roads, street names, and lists of businesses just amazed me.I was expecting abreviated mapping data, but no; the detail is great. Comfortable to use in 2 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Navigation is a breeze
This is the first GPS system that I have owned and I purchased it for the ease of use and simplicity. It lives up to the great reviews and has worked like a well-oiled machine since I got the unit. The points of intrest are a great asset with this GPS and the maps and voice prompts are easy and simple to use.It works right out of the box with all maps pre-loaded for the US and Canada.I would recommend this unit for anyone who is married and planning a driving trip.No arguing over directions, wrong turns or places to visit.Garmin takes care of it all even down to where we want to eat. This product is fantastic! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars What a nice little GPS
Well if you're like me and need a GPS to get you from point A to point B and not have it play MP3's and all that other garbage then this little unit is for you.I recieved it from Amazon next day and out of the box it was ready to go.I noticed how small it was but the screen is amazingly sharp, even in direct sunlight and easy to read.it's also light weight so the included suction cup holds it firmly in place, even over rough roads.
4-0 out of 5 stars Simple Instructions Makes for Safer Driving
My experience with the Garmin StreetPilot c340 includes daytime and evening travels over unfamiliar high volume New Jersey and Pennsylvania streets and highways to the mountain roads of Virginia. It worked remarkably well in all situations.I confess being skeptical, but for over a 1000 miles the c340 kept me on track.I had a concern that any GPS navigation system might reduce my attention span to the real task of safe driving.I have reached the very opposite conclusion - the c340 permits the driver to concentrate on the immediate task of driving and not to be distracted by the innumerable signs and crossroads that confronts every driver traversing unfamiliar roads.A quick scan of the lower right hand corner displays the distance to the next turn that keeps the driver adequately informed of progress; then await the close-in verbal and visual instructions from "Jill" as she guides you through the next turn for virtually error free travels. It is a senior citizens "must-have" driving utensil.
5-0 out of 5 stars like most people said - so easy to use
This is one of the item, I can really say to my wife "trust me from now on, honey".My wife didn't believe the car navigation from the beginning. This item is so easy to use, she finally convinced that I made a excelllent purchase (will, she didn't said that, but I can tell from her face). Now both of us are totally depended on this device when we travel outside of town.If you missed a turn, it automatically re-caculate the route. So, just relax and enjoy a good conversation in the car or enjoy the signorina (oops, scenery man, lady). ... Magellan had a hit with the RoadMate 700, and with good reason: finally, thanks to the 700's big internal hard drive, travelers could simply turn on their vehicle GPS unit and go, without the hassle of loading base-maps. Plus, the 700 offered great features like turn-by-turn guidance with voice prompts and 3D rendering of upcoming turns. 2-0 out of 5 stars Say that again ...
I bought my Magellan 760 after becoming addicted to Magellan's Hertz Neverlost, but I should have done more due diligence before selecting Magellan. The bottom line is, you have to be able to trust a device that does what this does and I don't trust the stupid thing. No matter which routing option I choose, it always calculates a route based primarily on Interstates -- even if that means routing me umpteen miles in the wrong direction to reach the first Interstate in the list. That's OK in rental cars on hurried business trips that begin in airports located next to Interstates but not when you're looking for a lazy, scenic drive on Least Heat Moon's "blue highways."Its more annoying quirks have been documented by other reviewers (who, yes, I should have read more carefully before buying this thing), including unpredictable reboots after the ignition has been turned off during a route, a non-functioning detour program, a weak windshield bracket that can't hold the unit steady and (this may be original to me) a screen that's nearly impossible to read through polarized sunglasses. An example of the wonderfulness of the detour feature: I recently found myself the third car in line behind an accident that blocked the road in both directions. The 760 announced that it was calculating a new route, and sure enough it did.It took me two miles in the wrong direction, looped me around and put me in line again behind the same accident -- but this time there were at least 50 cars ahead of me waiting to get through. But the significance of the unit's unreliability pales in comparison to the anger engendered by any encounter with the company's customer service department. Not only have the phone reps I have hooked up with been difficult to understand, they have been arrogant in denying that they are difficult to understand. If you're dumb enough to buy one of these after reading these reviews, just practice saying "Say that again" before you call Magellan service.By the way, the solutions I was offered were to (1) keep re-initializing the unit until it performs correctly and (2) when that doesn't work (take it from me, it doesn't) edit the calculated route by eliminating the roads you don't want to use -- thereby forcing the unit to calculate the route you want by process of elimination.Excuse me, Mr. CSR, sir -- I bought this thing because when I travel I DON"T KNOW which roads I do and don't want to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars read this before you buy.
i have owned the magellan 760 for just over one week and have been very pleased. this is my first gps. this is a small computer, not a toy! there is a small learning curve. it needs to be powered up and shut down correctly. a power surge can fry components. start car first, then start unit, power off unit, then turn off car.
1-0 out of 5 stars "If you're not lost now..."
I had bought this with high hopes. I had quit a job in Connecticut and taken one Florida. I had decided to buy a GPS becuse I am tired of fighting maps. I was trading the inconvience of refolding maps with the convenience of push button electronics. That was was my first mistake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS unit for the money
Rugged design, waterproof, compact, and with a great color screen.... what more could you ask for!
4-0 out of 5 stars More accurate than your average husband/boyfriend (for the direction-challenged)!
Since it's portable and waterproof, it's prefect to take along on your biking or hiking trips. I tested my Garmin GPSMAP 60CSxon various excursions in the US and Europe -- and always loved it. I wish I had purchased my little friend long time ago.
5-0 out of 5 stars unbeatable - with reservations
I've used the 60CSx for three months and carry it with me on all my hikes - mostly bushwhacks in deep, old-growth pacific northwest forests - often in deep canyons - and have never lost signal - (and I'm talking 200 foot trees and thousand foot deep, steep-walled canyons, too.) Accuracy suffers in such challenging terrain but seldom gets worse than +/- 100' and is usually in the 20' range. As previous reviewers have noted, the unit's standard base map is worthless so you will have to purchase another $100 worth of software to correct that problem. Unfortunately, and again as other reviewers have noted, there is a lot to be desired with the extra Garmin software but I've found it to be pretty good for my purposes on the trails and most city data is pretty accurate but there are some glaring mistakes and ommisions here and there.

I read the majority of customer reviews before I purchased my i5. I was pretty much certain that I would be happy, but my expectations were well surpassed! I had to travel to Central NYS this past week to a location I knew nothing about. I received the address, put the information into my brand-new i5, and here I was a few hours later pulling into this driveway somewhere up in ski country. Awesome!!! This was my first ever purchase of a device like this.My purchase decision was based largely on the positive reviews I read on Amazon.com.
5-0 out of 5 stars Sleek design
The Nuvi 360 lived up to all my expectations, given the usual caveats for street-guiding GPS systems. I also like the sleekness and thinness of its design, which makes for a nice appearance in the vent-holder I bought through Amazon. The holder brings the Nuvi more forward than does a windshield mount, reducing the glare and making it easier to operate, while at the same time maintaining a reasonable view.

Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 305. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 305 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 305 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. The 305 model includes wireless heartrate monitoring and it can also be connected to Garmin's wireless bicycle speed and cadence sensor. If you don't need these features, consider the lower-priced Forerunner 205.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Customer Service
I have had my Garmin Forerunner 305 for a couple of months now.I love it.I use it for running, biking, and occasionally hiking.Recently, I have had trouble getting it to make good connection with the syncing/charging cradle.I called Garmin's Customer Service about it.They are sending me a new cradle! It was a very postive experience.I was definitely impressed with Garmin's Customer Service!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this product!!
I bought this about a month ago and currently have 10 runs with it, including a few 5 milers.I'm not a top of the line runner but I am very interested in making myself a better runner through the information gathered with this device.I have great things to say about this product. It's very comfortable to wear, light on the wrist and the heart rate monitor is hardly noticable.Even my wife will wear this - and she is not into wearing any devices when she works out.I have to think that if I was to wear this for 26 miles though, it might become a little irritating, but then what wouldn't be irritating after 26 miles? The best part is that I don't even have to think about logging my activity. It's very easy to get the data from the device and the information that you get is incredible! If you are looking for a toy to help you train, this is it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great - 97% of the time
Works well most of the time; however, occationally will "yo-yo" between the pace I'm holding and about 7-8 minutes above that (e.g. - at a 8 minute pace, will fluxuate between 8 and 15:30 pace while I'm maintaining speed). This usually only lasts for about 5 minutes or so and doesn't happen often - but is annoying when it does. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use- great productbut one problem
Bright screen - fast lock in to staellite - very easy to use - great windshield mount. This is a great product with one exception.Once in a while the directions are insane.I have several cases of route differences but nothing of any real concern.99% of the time everything is OK.It is that 1-2% that really bother me.The route instructions are just not even close. Normal recomputing when I choose a route that varies slightly from the 360's route is accurate and fast.I dont know what would happen if I followed the 1% route that is just plain wrong - Once in a while you might find it is a good idea to trust you senses - I am normally very good at that but just be aware that it "can" be way off one in a great while

2-0 out of 5 stars Good equipment, but unreliable features
I agree with all the good stuff listed against this product (model -360). I have been using this for about 6 months now (brought it for a $100 more).
4-0 out of 5 stars Great unit, arguably useful.
I bought one of these to use on a short interstate roadtrip. It was nice to have, and helped me make sure I stayed on track.

5-0 out of 5 stars good product
I have been doing research on finding a good gps for a few days know, i've actually read almost all the reviews for this one and decided it was right. Ilove it! I use the smaller memory card for my state, and the larger one for the entire US. (I bought a 1gig for 19bucks). Great buy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Garmin Lives up to their promise
I recently moved to the Phoenix area and have to drive all over the Valley. This unit does live up to their promise out of the box.If you go to Garmin's website, you can download updated drivers, computer to c320 unit interface that allows you to customize the unit for your purposes. With the standard SD card slot, you can upload huge areas with good detail. The address or site imput is quick and easy and the detail is so good that it will even tell you on which side of the street a location is. This unit saves me so much time and trouble travelling from point to point.I cannot wait to download 3D topo maps for off-higway driving.

1-0 out of 5 stars very disappointing-it's being sent back
    1. first peek the device looks small and cheap. the instructions are bare MINIMUM and the manual must be downloaded from garmin.

2-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea - Lots Of Problems (consider carefully before buying)
I purchased the 301 in Febuary - It is now October and I am disgusted. From the very first day, heart rate monitor was very erratic (inspite of following all directions)heart rate will spike to beyond where I would be dead or sometimes totally dissapear during runs, for no apparrent reason. This unit is great for keeping general pace and distance of runs, however, it frequently says you are going too fast or too slow even when you are keeping a steady pace and this can be frustrating. The last problem, and gravest, is that as time has gone by it has gotten harder to connect and download the information - maybe moisture in the contacts? - I have talked to other Garmin owners and have heard similar complaints - this is a serious design flaw ! My unit is still under warranty - So I am HOPING that this company will honor its warranty. Anyway, If I was to do it all over again I would get a speed & distance monitor with foot pod technology (maybe from Polar) I have heard these are great. Forwarned is Forearmed and not Fore-Ripped off !

5-0 out of 5 stars Freedom!
I bought the 301 from Amazon a few weeks ago, and it has worked flawlessly.Heart rate and distance both track quite well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exceeded Expectations
I was worried after reading the other reviews but didn't want to buy the more expensive models. As a result, I kept all the packing materials and documents when unpacking it (so that I can return it if it was as bad as the reviews made it out to be).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a chunk of money, but...
I've never regreted buying this thing. It's been on several trips and used in my work on a daily basis. No, I don't believe you'll find one that will always be 100% accurate, maybe on down the road, but I've been super impressed with it's capabilities. Going to Atlanta this next week and it sure is sweet not to sweat being in the right lane through metropolitan areas. At 18, not knowing exactly where I was going was fun, now at 42 it's not fun anymore. This unit has put some thrill back into the trip process, "Jill" and I are tight.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't live without it.
I bought this whilst in California and found it useful when going on trips to Yosemite etc.You just plug in and go. (You almost don't need to ever read the instructions it is so easy.) I was the main driver and it meant no more arguments of the best way to go or shouting because turns had been missed. Then I moved to Washington D.C with my family and the Garmin StreetPilot 2720 became the valuable piece of equipment.Where ever we were trying to go it got us there.I loved the fact you can just type in a shop name like Target and it will give you options of all the nearest ones. There is no more staring blindly at maps trying to figure out where you are and how to get back.I can truly say that I will never life without a navigation system. It is worth its weight in gold just for the now stress free trips to whether we feel like.
5-0 out of 5 stars Functional and affordable GPS
The Garmin StreetPilot 2720 is the best GPS currently on Amazon for two reasons.First, this GPS is only a year old, and costs half as much as it originally did!Second, you will not sacrifice features by paying less for this GPS.It costs what a mid-level unit costs, but it is quite an advanced system.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Small GPS, but PC Cable is behind the times
I've been using the eTrex for about 2 months. All GPS functions work marvelously. However, the PC cable is a 9 pin female serial connector.I haven't had a computer with this kind of connector for over 7 years.Since I wanted to download my datapoints to a navigation program, I bought a "Serial to USB" connector from Radio Shack for $40.After installing the connector's software, my laptop recognized the connector cable, but not the eTrex connected to it.Best bet is probably to go with the Garmin cable for $60.Which is outrageously priced. Why they can't catch up with the real world of USB connectors is a mystery. For handheld navigation though, it excels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent with the caveats noted........
.......in earlier reviews. It cannot pick up accurately if you are too close to buildings, under trees, etc, but i really dont know too many inexpensive GPS units that work under those conditions. For the price an excellent choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great entry level GPS
I'm very pleased with the accuracy and reliability of this GPS receiver. I've had to rely on the manual more frequently than I expected to and the mapping feature really isn't very useful, but for the price I paid, it's a great unit for my primary passion - Geocaching!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing.......
I have to admit it, when I bought the Garmin StreetPilot i3 I wasn't sure if it could do what it was supposed to do. I tested out in my home area for about 2 weeks. I took a small trip with a couple of friends we were about 60 miles from home. My friend has a brand new luxury vehicle with a GPS that she didn't know how to use. I had my StreetPilot i3 so we used it going down. I was pleasently surprised to find out that the voice response on theGarmin StreetPilot i3 was loud enough to hear over our conversation. There were three women in the car talking and we could hear the turn by turn voice instructions loud and clear, and accurate on the Garmin StreetPilot i3. On the way back home we had figured out how to use the cars built in GPS so we programed it and set out for home, we could hardly hear the turn by turn instructions on the cars system so coming back home was a little quiet (boring) because we had to be quiet so that we could hear the instructions.
5-0 out of 5 stars great GPS
This was my first GPS and had been using for last 8 months it works great . Highly recommended . Now i bought Garmin C320

4-0 out of 5 stars great unit with low cost
I wanted to buy GPS unit with low cost. This definitely falls into that category. Picked one up at Costco which as on sale this month. The unit works great, picks up satellite in most cases and calculates route fairly quickly. However, it did loose signals going to LA from SF while on Hwy 156 mountains and also on Hwy 5 which is flat. Great audio and screen resolution.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product
I love the Garmin Forerunner. It's one of the best little equipment I've bought for my marathon training.I'd feel blind if I didn't have it on.Makes running myself all the more interesting.I highly recommend any runner to run w/ this little gezmo.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great product that works well.
Overall this is a great product that works well and does exactly what it should. The only real drawbacks are what others have mentioned already. The serial interface is a pain, but for a few dollars you can buy a cable on ebay that will convert serial to USB, so that's not a huge deal. The other thing is the reception. It is not bad, but definitely not great. In addition when you are going at a decent pace and then make a sharp corner, your info is way off for a few seconds while the unit realizes that you are not still moving in the same direction.I'm not sure if Garmin has fixed this with the new Forerunners, but this can be a pain sometimes when you turn a corner and suddenly the unit shows that you are barely moving!
4-0 out of 5 stars Garmin 201 review
Great piece of equipment.I use it to pace my basic training unit at Fort Benning while on foot marches and during runs.I recently used it on a foot march during a pretty heavy thunderstorm.Being out in the middle of nowhere with heavy cloud cover didn't seem to faze it much.A bit slower loading in its location with the satellites, but it still worked.During this march, it was soaked in water and sweat. It also got a taste of some mud when our evac. vehicle got stuck on a dirt trail. However, I wasn't able to manipulate the "custom" pace alarm within my specified time.It only allowed me a 10-minute gap instead of a preferred 2-or-3-minute gap.The battery provides a pretty decent charge and the settings are otherwise easy to manipulate. ... Editorial Review

Just when you thought Garmin had cornered the market on powerful, affordable, and effective wrist-mounted GPS devices, here comes the Forerunner 205. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 205 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 205 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. While the 205 doesn't offer heart rate monitoring, or connectivity with Garmin's wireless speed and cadence sensor -- for that, you'll need to step up to the Forerunner 305 --but it's a great way to get basic GPS location and performance data.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The 201 is better and cheaper
I had been using the Garmin 201 model for over a year and was very anxious to get the 205. Since I got it, I find that the current pace is consistently wrong on the 205. The 201 is much more accurate when it comes to telling you the pace you are currently running at. The 201 does all the same basic things as 205 just as well and is much better on the current pace for some reason. The 201 is also about $100 cheaper and I would highly reccomend buying it, it is fantastic and a great value!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin 205
I have had the Garmin 205 for over a month now. I have also used the 301. I like the 205 because it is smaller and more compact. I find it to be very accurate and finds the satellites faster than the 301. I walk under trees sometimes and have not lost the signal. It is easy to set up and read your stats. I have no problems with the rubber wristband. It is a good training device.

I am a new geocacher and this device is perfect.Even children can easily understand and operate this device. It is accurate to 10-15 feet of the cache in the city.It is dead on when there is little or no interference (West Virginia).I've even dropped it a couple of times and it still works like a charm. It is highly recommended in the forums of geocaching sites as well!A great device for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!
I just got mine and I'm extremely impressed with it. It's very easy to use (hint - download the instructions from Garmin's website and read them while you're waiting for delivery - this one is newer and does more than those instructions say, but it works the same way and you will know how to use it before it gets there). It's accuracy is more than what I expected. I can mark a waypoint and it will guide me to within 10 feet of it, sometimes within 3 feet. This is far more than what I need but nice to have that level of accuracy (in WAAS mode). It doesn't have the features of more expensive units but it has everything I need, and everything you would need to get you unlost in the woods. It doesn't do maps but I didn't want that anyway. You can't beat this unit for the price.

I foolishly bought a Magellan Explorist 500. Let's just say the best thing about the experience is that Amazon's return service is absolutely first rate. I was even stupid enough to replace my original malfunctioning Magellan with another, before returning that one too on the grounds that it was impossible to work with and didn't sync with my PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars A NEWBIE WHO LOVES HER VISTA!
This is my first GPS unit that I bought in June 2006 after discovering the wonderful world of geocaching.Having zero experience with GPS, I spent a couple months researching devices and, most importantly, reading what other users were saying about their hand-held units. The short of it was that after all the info I had gathered, I decided on the Vista CX.It's a middle-of-the-road GPS unit-- I didn't want to go too cheap and end up having to update 6 months later, but I couldn't affort 700 or 800 dollars, either. This device fits perfectly.

    Editorial Review

Outfitted with a 16-color display, a high-speed USB data port, 8 MB of built-in maps, and an additional 8 MB of usable memory, the Magellan eXplorist 500 North America includes all the tools you need to navigate throughout the U.S. and Canada whether in the car or on foot. The device is rugged and lightweight, with a waterproof, impact-resistant plastic housing that stands up to almost every adventure, including whitewater rafting and hiking. At the same time, its pocket-sized chassis, which measures a mere 2.2 by 4.7 by 1.3 inches (W x H x D), is loaded with convenient features, such as detailed, built-in maps of North American roads, parks, waterways, and airports; the ability to save five track log files, 20 routes, and 500 points of interest; and an area calculator that determines the distance between saved points of interest--an ideal function when mapping out hiking trails. Other cool and convenient add-ons include a fish/hunt function that mentions the best fishing and hunting times for a specific coordinate and a similar tool that displays the rising and setting times for the sun and moon.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good unit for the money
I purchased the Explorist 500 on July 9th after returning my second Garmin Etrex Vista color screen. I use the Explorist for geocaching and am really impressed with this unit. The color screen and map is very good and I like the smaller size. The accuracy is great, even in heavy tree cover and aquires a signal very fast. I admit to being leery about the rechargeable battery, but it seems to hold up to a days caching just fine. At the price being sold, a very good deal for a color screen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, with a few flaws
I've been happy with the device.I primarily use it for geocaching.
    1-0 out of 5 stars Explorist 500 - garbage
I just bought this worthless piece of junk through Amazon. However it doesn't start up properly, won't even compute my starting point and is, frankly useless. The only thing more useless is Magellan's customer service - no reply despite several emails. Trust my life to this piece of junk if I'm ever lost in the wilderness? No way. It can't even get me to my property line. ... Read more
