3-0 out of 5 stars Eh, so/so
I've worked with better walkies in the entertainment industry - these rate so/so.The real problem was with the headset which had to be purchased seperately. For some reason, the walkie kept goinginto VOX mode without warning.Had to shut them down, turn them back on again, and hit the talk button to take it out of VOX mode. The instructions give no real instruction on turning OFF the VOX mode when used with a headset.Reception is good, range is ok for small venues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ski trip
I bought these for ski trips and they do a great job. You can reach your family member anywhere in the mountain under any type of weather. I found the battery life great too. No problem to report after using them for 2 winters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Motorola 2 way radios
I originally had a problem with the charger unit.I got a quick response from amazon. They sent another motorola unit out to me.This unit works great, I have been pleased with the customer service from amazon.I also have been pleased with my purchase order. It has better range and more features then the old motorola radios I used to have, plus the price was right! It's everything I expected.

3-0 out of 5 stars talkabout t7400 (yellow Ni-MH)
These radios are overall good quality ( but not as good as the old t6220's). The first day that I had them one of the latches onthe belt clip broke. I called up the help line and got a new one(seven days later i might add) only to see that this one was smaller and thiner than the one that came with the radios- this tells me that they (the company) fixed the issue of the belt clip, it works better despite the fact that the teeth on the radio are too small and the radio fall off. The box says that the unites are "field cirtified" (6 miles over open land). I feel that these radios are too big for the range and too big for the shortage of Wattage ( watts is what gets your signel herd over long distances and perced through most obsrtuctions people). I feel thay should buy these radios if you are just want an introduction unite and don't want to spend alot of money.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOT SO GREAT AS THEY SAY.JUST OK
These radios look nice but there are some problems here. First the batteries do not last long unless you do not talk. Second the biggest problem for me was uncompatibility with other radios and brands. The receive quality is very poor and hard to understand at times. I also hace a T7200 and the difference is like night and day. The 7200 is the best. The 7400 i believe is an has flaws and that is why you see them priced so low. I paid $24.00 on ebay and also have seen the set at home depot clearance for $44.00 today. What good is any radio if you cant understand what someone is saying? Good try motorola but this is a poor product.NOT RECOMMENDED TO PURCHASE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product T7400R
The T7400R works great. No, I did not get 12 miles of range, but I have not been out on the open plains with them yet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't beleive the negative hype, these radios are fine.
I don't know what the fuss from other reviewers is all about. These radios work fine.Like the rest of life, have realistic expectations. They sell for $43.69.Why do people expect the performance of a short wave radio? That is a recipe for disappointment. If you want the performance of $1000 2 way radios, buy that flavor and do not buy the inexpensive one.
2-0 out of 5 stars Love the features, Hate the range and usage!
From cellphone and also the pager era I began my love affair with Motorola.Don't need to read much farther into my review to get to the meat of it.Sometimes companies make a lousy product even though they have others that are great!Don't Buy These! They fall into the former category
1-0 out of 5 stars Why can't they be honest?
10 miles? I bought the 6510 at Costco. I had my doubts but I figured if they advertised 10 miles surely it would do at least a couple. But only if you are on the water or other flat plain. Why do you need one of these if you can see the person? They only work if you have a direct line of sight and that was only a mile or two at most. But get over a hill or within trees or houses and absolutely nothing! I lost my party!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
After reading the other reviews they are what I expected. They have been very durable (I bought them for my kids to use) and the battery life is excellent. The range is just what others have said you get out of most radios, 1/2 mile + or - in the city. (Good luck with 6 miles LOL. I am glad I did not waste my money on the "longer range" ones.)
5-0 out of 5 stars Uniden 2 way radios
I have used these radios for 2 years at a summer camp for staff to be in constant contact. They are reliable, light weight, and have a good range.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the three new batteries required replacement
Within two months one of the three units would not charge and was inoperable requiring battery replacement. Can not locate replacement so will go with four triple A lithium batteries. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended
I purchased the Rino 120 about a year ago.It has been on many trips with me.I have had it attached to my camel pack while mountain biking and hiking. It has been through several crashes on the bike with me.While Geocaching, I dropped it into a stream.I snatched it back up, and found it to be operating perfectly.I have had this on the outside of my pack during light to heavy rain, with no problems.I can do many trips on a set of batteries.I use it often when 4X4'ing with my Jeep.I'll preset coordinates for intersections or points of interest, and it keeps me right on.When Geocaching, it has always led me within a few feet of cache.
4-0 out of 5 stars Almost there ...
The Rino 120 is VERY easy to use.It has many user-friendly options, and it does not require vast knowledge of global positioning.I did not give this product 5 stars because of the need to purchase additional detailed maps, and the only choice of them being US and Canadian maps (I live overseas and travel world-wide).I really enjoy the integrated 2-way communications capabilities -- it has enhanced the scope of my own employment performance.

3-0 out of 5 stars 'Waterproof' It's Not!
The Rino 120 manual says this: "The Rino 120 is waterproof to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards [30 minutes at 1 meter depth] and is rugged enough to endure the most trying use."My experience was otherwise, and the Garmin response was troubling.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as Expected
Range is very weak probably less than half a mile. Don't waste your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars no Range
I purchased these radios for a back up so to speak for my elderly mother. We live approximately 1/2 mile from each other and I wanted her to be able to reach me if she had an accident and could not get to a phone. These walkie talkies worked great within 200 feet of her house but after that the range lost any chance of hearing her. I would not reccomend them to anyone who needs something to rely on!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Es un buen equipo considerando su bajo precio
... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Tools
We used these radios on a Corvette road tour to the national convention in San Antonio.Had no problems, great response.Batteries appear to last more than a few days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Motorola radios, good performers
We use quite a few of the 5500 and 5400 series Motorola FRS radios. They all work together as long as everyone is on the same frequency (along with the sub-frequency). The AA and rechargeable battery versions are all compatible as well... you can buy the AA version and insert a rechargeable battery and it works fine. (Don't know if it works in reverse but it should). Sometimes the earbud jack gets broken inside (cheap weld) and the earbud won't work anymore. If looking for inexpensive accessories, look for generic aftermarket parts. Why pay $20 for a PTT Motorola earbud when you can get it for $5?

4-0 out of 5 stars Motorola T5500AA
In general, these two way radios work very well. We use them when we ski and for the most part we can communicate beter than using our older more simple radios. The privacy channels are great for when tons of others on the slope have radios too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for keeping track of my kids
I live in a typical suburban subdivision, absolutely indistinguishable from the hundreds of thousands of similar neighborhoods around the US.I give one of these to my kids and let them go to the parks, their friends' houses, etc.I can reach them easily and they can reach me.The reception is great for us, but we haven't tried it over about 3 miles.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth The Price
At about $15 shipped these radios are certainly worth the price and function as an excellent intercom between houses on the property where I live. They also were useful at a recent convention held at the LAX Hilton where they communicated through 6 concrete floors!
3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad - not quite 6 miles though
They are a good size and the charger is compact. However, not quite sure on the 6 miles as advertised - most channels get static and other people talking at less than 1 mile away. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not work first time
I received the unit on time but after one day the volume did not work anymore have to return the unit for replacement.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Item
The only reason I even gave it one star was that it did turn on.The battery lasts about 1 hour fully charged, which is just sad.I could not communicate with a vessel that was 1 mile from me, which again is sad.Spend a little more money and get a better product.

1-0 out of 5 stars false advertising of prices
When we placed our order for the marine midland nautico handheld radios the price on the screen stated that the item price was 49.99 how ever we were billed 59.99 apiece for them. When we called the seller about this price change he informed us that it must be an error that amazon .com made and said they could not refund the difference. If it is on the screen being advertised at one price I would say its pretty convenient to then change the price and tell the customer you cant do anything about it. Over all we are not impressed with the way this was handled and although we had planned to order several more we will now order from a different site. We will also be advising a number of our friends who planned to buy them here not to do so! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I wanted
I was hoping for a pair of radios that could be stored on the chargers until needed. Thus the radios would always have full batteries.Alas, this was not the case. The charger always charges and will destroy the batteries if left on there continually. So instead, I have to charge the batteries and then unhook the base from the wall to use the base to store the radios.
1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
They worked for 22 days...Now one does not x-mit...the other won't hold a charge....JUNK!!! Never Buy Midland products...I WAS Warned....but did it anyway and Amazon does not back them !!!JUNK....JUNK...JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Radios
I would recommend these radios. Well made and quite dependable. The charger base is super convenient. Their range isn't as much as they say - maybe 1 to 2 miles. Perhaps farther on open areas - I've not tested them extensively on long ranges. But they do have a high quality of voice transmission. We use them on trails and between vehicles on the roads. And if one family member goes out for a walk, they take the radio and we keep one home. We're considering buying another pair for when we need more than two. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Defective Product
The radio portion was inoperative straight out of the packaging. Made this "discovery" after ordering a second unit but one couldn't send or receive messages. Figured out which was the defective unit by using a third two-way radio. Wrote to Garmin who suggested that I send in both units. Thanks to Amazon who was very accomodating with an excahnge. Wonder what hoops Garmin would have put me through. Maybe the product is "normally" ok but I ended up with a lemon.

5-0 out of 5 stars great safety item
Got this as a gift for my soldier daughter who was on her way overseas. She has already used it and been proud she has it.That's good enough for me.
4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better with an IASUS throat mic
We have many sets of radios as we use them for airsoft and paintballing. When we decided to buy a 2in1 system (GPS and radio) we deicided to look at these. The GPS unit is awesome. When using the radio, I find that the batteries drain a little too fast. We therefore purchased a set of IASUS throat mics online (AMAZON doesn't carry them!) so we could save more battery power. That actually made the unit sound better also! If the radio didn't eat up so much power and sounded better, I would give the Garmin a 5 star. ... Read more

"The service from this vendor is horrible. My account was charged in May of this year and as of 6/26/06 have not received anything. First they said they need to make a model change. I was fine with the model change but never got the product. I sent many...notes to Nicholas Nasti but he has been unable to fix the problem. Recently I have been unable to contact them with notes or telephone."

5-0 out of 5 stars 4+ mile reception!
These radios rock.
1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL reception! Barely a mile
I just purchased these in part due to the relatively decent reviews and for the rechargeable aspect, features and brand-name. Took them out to test and really not pleased with the performance. In Florida so mountains and hills are not a major influence in the performance evalution. Also, it was perfect weather. I'm not in an area with high rise buildings, rather outside of town in a mostly residential area. At one mile they began crackling severely with static. At just over a mile-they became non-audible...only the call feature worked. By 1.5 miles-forget it. Full charge, no mountains, no hills, no tall buildings, nothing but a few tree's. Now, I did NOT expect anything near the claimed 14 miles, not even half that. I did expect somewhere between 2-4 mile range in perfect weather...nowhere even near it. On the other hand, the rechargeable aspect is nice, the car adaptor is a great little touch but for the price difference-they barely outperformed the $20 set I purchased as toys for my neice/nephew. Disappointing ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great radio with excellent range at a good price
We use this two way radio in our business. It has proven to be very dependable. It also has decent range.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality
We use this 2-way in a medium size retail store (50,000 sq. feet) and it works great. The batteries last a full 12 hour day. There is ocassional static, but normally switching channels solves that problem. They've been dropped several times (on tile and carpet), but they keep on going. We've had them just over months and they still work great!I took off one star because the batteries take so long to charge. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the price!
Picked these up with some X-mas money, mainly for play use with my 4yr old son, with some minor utility while out with the family.4-0 out of 5 stars Bought a per to travel yellowstone nt park
Being a ham operater I also have a need to be able to track small children and also use to have car to car comunications we found the units good for both uses. the smallness made them most useful while hikeings and for keeping tabs on the kids. I would recomend to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice size, poor performance.
I picked up pair a month or so ago from a local "Mart."Nicely sized, however, no sub-code feature makes these units almost unusable in any type of crowded (theme park) venue. In addtion, the speaker quality was poor.Frequent message repeats were required to communicate effectively.Pass. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Decent -- I've Used Better, And I've Used Worse
These are not bad radios, but I didn't like that they run on AAA batteries, because hi-capacity AAA's just don't exist...I prefer AA cells.Currently, AAA Ni-MH cells are available in 1000mAH capacity, the higher the number the better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Range
I'm not sure about the claimed 6 mile range but I use these to communicate with coworkers on the NYC Subway system. It comes in loud and clear from the 1st car to the last ,getting past all that metal, glass and electrical interference with no problem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't be without it
Have had this unit for a long time, not exactly sure how long , but close to a year I think.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal~Very Good and Simple
I got these radios for about $40. there not bad. I havent been able to really try them. I think they could go sicks miles in an open space. They are very simple(but yet add some very cool features like call rings and scan) and provide some fun as well. For spring break im going to Florida so my family is going to take them there!
5-0 out of 5 stars Field tested - Excellent!
In the past, I used another brand (begins with an M: T5420's) for skiing and fishing. While those models worked well, they only got about 8 hours on 3 AAA batteries (each unit). Over a weekend trip, this caused a problem.
5-0 out of 5 stars For my purposes, these are GREAT!
After extensive testing, the library where I work switched to these radios based on the price and features. We use about 20 of these to keep people in touch as they move all around a VERY large, two story building in a downtown urban environment.Because they are rechargable, we save a ton of money on batteries (our old radios went through a set every 2 weeks). As for clarity - we have a very strong signal no matter where we are in the library building or on the grounds (an entire city block). The concrete of the building doesn't even keep us from communicating via these radios.

Stay connected with your buddies while on the trail, at the river, or anywhere else within a 10-mile range with this pair of GMR1088-2CK two-way radios. Also ideal as neighborhood watch tools and kid-sitting aids, each water-resistant radio features 22 channels (15 GMRS, 7 FRS) and 99 CTCSS/DSC privacy codes, along with a voice-operated transmitter that enables hands-free communication when used with an optional HS 2467 headset and microphone. The large number of channels and privacy codes give users several communication options, ensuring that they can almost always talk with friends or family via an exclusive, uninterrupted signal. The channels are easy to find thanks to the channel scan feature, which browses for active channels while you watch, and the channel monitor function, which listens for weak signals on a given channel. To transmit on a GMRS or FRS channel, a user merely presses the PTT or power-boost button while the scan is paused. The power-boost button expands the radio's range by emitting maximum power when a GMRS channel is detected. The radios are also equipped with a NOAA National Weather Service receiver. In weather-alert mode, the system functions as it does in GRMS mode, but also monitors the selected weather channel for storm updates and other information. When using the weather function, users can't receive GMRS communications, however. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Pair of Radios
I've had these and used them lightly so far. I like the feel and performance of them, and have used the weather/alert function a number of times -- it's a nice feature. Battery use seems to be pretty good, as they just always seem to be ready, even after a day's use of sporadic communication (for example, at an amusement park).
2-0 out of 5 stars Less range than old FRS radio!
These are nice looking, but aren't very good at range. The stated 10 mile range must be in outer space as it's certainly not on earth.Range is less than 1 mile with the full boost on. My old Audiovox FRS radios went at least a half mile farther than these!
5-0 out of 5 stars Water resistant means splash or light rain not submerged!!!
I is one of the best radio I have ever used!very long range and the power consumption is top notch!very durable because I have dropped mine four times on concrete from the chest without a dent.
