Editorial Review

Perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who often get separated from their groups, such as mountain bikers, serious hikers, and whitewater rafters, this pair of Motorola rechargeable two-way radios keeps you connected from up to 12 miles away (based on terrain and conditions). The wide-ranging signal also works for more pedestrian tasks, such as keeping tabs on the kids while they're playing at a friend's house or calling your pals in the lodge while you're skiing on the slopes. Each radio comes equipped with 22 channels--including eight GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service), seven FRS (Family Radio Service), and seven GMRS/FRS combo channels--giving you plenty of frequencies on which to communicate. The radios also receive a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration channel, which delivers up-to-the-minute storm warnings--a must for mountain climbers. And thanks to the rugged housing, convenient side grips, and included holsters, you'll enjoy quick, constant access to the radios in the midst of almost any activity.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun for everyone
I am very pleased with this purchase.I bought them for my [...] son.The buttons are a little hard for him to push and hold, but he is learning and I am sure he will enjoy them for years.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth it
I am a traditional rock climber and a backcountry snowboarder/mountaineer.These radios were a good choice at their $45 price.Between belays, reception is clear enough and ample.Above tree line, communication is expectedly easy, as well.Conversely, in the trees of the backcounty performance is notably lessened, yet still practical.
4-0 out of 5 stars I like these
We bought these for use on camping trips with our grandchildren and for kayaking. At this time, I have only used them once on a camping trip. They worked very well. I did not measure distances, but they worked well for our purposes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Eh, so/so
I've worked with better walkies in the entertainment industry - these rate so/so.The real problem was with the headset which had to be purchased seperately. For some reason, the walkie kept goinginto VOX mode without warning.Had to shut them down, turn them back on again, and hit the talk button to take it out of VOX mode. The instructions give no real instruction on turning OFF the VOX mode when used with a headset.Reception is good, range is ok for small venues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for ski trip
I bought these for ski trips and they do a great job. You can reach your family member anywhere in the mountain under any type of weather. I found the battery life great too. No problem to report after using them for 2 winters.

1-0 out of 5 stars Motorola 2 way radios

It does everything promised but takes several hours of going over the instructions to figure out how to program some of the features.Instructions hard to locate in booklet.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SCANNERS I HAVE EVER HAD

4-0 out of 5 stars Well designed, mission-ready unit
After reading all of the online reviews here on Amazon, and on the manufacturer's web site, I decided to purchase the units and judge for myself.I had been planning a trip to the Michigan sand dunes, and thought it would be nice for safety to have at least two units in case any member of my family got lost, or seperated during the trip.
2-0 out of 5 stars Troublesome
I bought 2 of the Rino 130's for my wife and I to use for hiking, boating, and geocaching. We were excited about the prospect of peer to peer positioning, etc. After 10 minutes, one of them locked up, then the second one would not transmit only receive a radio communication. The only way to get either one of them to function properly again was to remove the power source, wait a few seconds and reinstall and power up again. The first time this happened I was hoping it would be an isolated incident; then it happened again 10 minutes later.I checked the software; one was running ver 5.40 and the other 5.20.Webupdater would not work with one of them.It would lock up during the firmware upgrade.
4-0 out of 5 stars Battery could last longer if you use a throat mic
We have many sets of radios as we use them for airsoft and paintballing. When we decided to buy a 2in1 system (GPS and radio) we deicided to look at these. The GPS unit is awesome.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Quality
We use this 2-way in a medium size retail store (50,000 sq. feet) and it works great. The batteries last a full 12 hour day. There is ocassional static, but normally switching channels solves that problem. They've been dropped several times (on tile and carpet), but they keep on going. We've had them just over months and they still work great!I took off one star because the batteries take so long to charge. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Spk Failure - Mic jack - Charger Issue poor quality control
SPEAKER FAILURES: Turns out the speaker - mic - charger jack is defective on many of these units. After a few charger plug insertions the contact that cuts out the speaker when using a headset fails to make a good connection when the charger plug is removed. Appears to be a class manufacturing problem... Jack contacts are accesible from battery compartment. Press a fine sewing needle point into the small loop contact (use magnifying glass)to make the loop buldge a little more and make a better connection with the other contact. The speaker will then start working again. Problem solved

3-0 out of 5 stars A neat "toy," but still needs a bit more to be truly useful!
These were on sale a while back, so I bought a pair.

2-0 out of 5 stars Noisy keytones ruined these radios for me
I bought these radios for use during a camping trip. I liked the fact that they can receive all 10 NOAA Weather channels, and for me the price was right. In retrospect, I should have spent just a little more money, because there are a couple of serious issues with these radios.

They have enough chanels that we can program them to work in busy metro area without getting lots of bleed over from other radios. Motorola is famous for its great FRS radios, and its Talkabout FR-60 offers perhaps the best combination of price and performance we've seen. The FR-60 communicates on all 14 FRS channels and also has 38 sub-codes (also known as privacy codes) per channel, so it usually isn't too tough to find an open channel in a crowded place. 5-0 out of 5 stars Well worth buying!
I went into the store to buy some Cobra Family Radios, and the salesman was so adamant that these were better, and that their range beat the Cobra hands down, that I reluctantly gave in.Now, I've never tested them against the Cobra, but I have tested them, car to car, simultaneously against my mother's Audiovox pair.NO CONTEST.The Audiovox's were full of static, and were out of range long before the Motorola's.She even thought her Audiovox's were defective and sent them back, but the replacement pair was just as bad.5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for outings!
I mostly use my fr60's for paintball, so the privacy codes are a must. The privacy codes not only keep other random people from blocking your transmissions with their chatter, it also keeps the opposing team from listening to you talk with your teammates!I've also used them for multi-car road trips, and have never had a problem with distance or reception quality (something I *did* have problems with in a cheaper brand FRS radio my family bought)

4-0 out of 5 stars useful
These are very useful. I got two of these for my birthday. They can communicate about one and half miles in my town which has so many trees! I think they're good if you do not want to pay a lot of money. I rated it four stars because it doesn't have features like auto-power off and its a bit big but the problem with the size is probably because they are so armored because I dropped them so many times and they still work! they can really help in museums if you split up and I know that because once me and my family did not have these and we had a very hard time finding each other. If you need good two-way radios don't waste all your money on those 130$ each radios! All they have is features like watches which you can find out by just looking at your wrist and all those features don't even have anything to do with communication! Do the right thing and buy at least one pair of FR60s! I very strongly recommend these and this is why. 1.They dont cost a lot. 2.All their features are for communication. 3.They are well armored. 4.It is very easy to adjust the volume. 5.they have 38 subcodes and 14 channels. and that is the basic reason I like them after having them almost 5 months. I hope I have convinced you to buy this product. Good luck choosing a Two-Way radio! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Was left out in the yard for 3 months and still works!
I usually don't rave about a product, but this was too good to be true. I bought 4 of these radios for Christmas. Sometime in Jan. one of my sons lost his radio out in the woods by our house. Today my wife found it while she was out for a run. I pushed the power button and it worked like new. Unbelievable! I'm sure this is not the kind of "field testing" that they had in mind at Panasonic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
These things are awesome.Me and my friend wanted communication to his house because his dad didn't like him on the phone. So we bought these talkies and we have crystal clear communication 1 1/2 miles away.Buythese then are awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great value for keeping you and yours together.
I bought these radios, because of the first factor I had: They were inexpensive. I wasn't expecting much for the money I invested, but I was most definately surprised at the quality and value I recieved. I took themto "A popular resort park in Orlando" and experienced my firstproblem: FRS is a heavily shared frequency, and it was very hard tocommunicate with my party. I did have fun talking to other guests, though. My next trip was to the mountains. Here, they proved invaluable. Noone elsewas apparently using FRS in the area when we were there, and it wasexcellent for confirming rendezvous times and places. The range is superb.Somewhat surprising. My voice, and the person I am talking to can easily beheard sometimes up to a mile away over hill, dale, and wadi. The featuresare easy to use. My 5 year old has no problem using it (no, he dosen't goout alone). The page feature is good to have, as well. The size of the unitmakes it easy to slip into purse or pocket, or attach to a belt with theclip. It is a breeze to use, and great fun to have. I will never regretbuying mine, and I don't think you will either.

4-0 out of 5 stars A nicely priced item that widens two-way communication.
I work at a university in California as a maintenance worker. My boss and I have to keep in touch in order to best meet the needs of our housing residents. Before we used the Cobra Micro Talk 1 we relied on our campuspager system. This was not an effective method since we had to find campusphones and wait until the other person responded to the page. With theMicro Talk 1 we are able to connect quickly and effectively. We can nowcommunicate in seconds instead of minutes. The battery life is long becauseof the stand-bye feature, we have been able to use them for several weeksbefore the batteries run low.The only down side to the Micro Talk 1 isthat we sometimes have to deal with other radio traffic because of thetwo-channel limitation. ... Editorial Review

Motorola's T5320 offers the same overall design as its more expensive T5420 counterpart, but it strips away some useful features to shave a few dollars off the price. A lack of subcodes is the most notable omission, which really hampers the utility of this otherwise solid FRS radio.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars OK but missing features
These are OK radios but they need the extra feature of 38 subcodes. When I take them skiing I often have trouble finding a empty channal. Besids that the radios are nice and small, well made but I would buy a different pair maybe the T6300 which have a lot more features.

2-0 out of 5 stars What range?
I was counting on the brand Motorola, but...5-0 out of 5 stars What a great product (with so many uses!)
I bought these to keep track of my 10 year old son after having several moments of him wandering off or getting lost at amusement parks or festivals. These work great! When we go somewhere I give him one and I keep one.The idea is whenever (or if) we get seperated all I have to do is talk to him through these radios and I can then find him.I haven't had to use them to locate him yet though, but we do communicate through them all the time.We use them when he goes outside in the neighborhood.I can ring him up whenever I want to know what he is doing or when it is time to come home.He can "call" me whenever he has a question for me or wants to check in.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Some good feature, poor implementation
I used this radio for a long time. The reason I finally got rid of it was that it could not automatically switch between the walkie talkie and the fm radio. If a call came in, you heard a tone and had to manually switch to frs. The earphone jack is a mono jack, not stereo. The screen is rather hard to see, changing functions can be very confusing, and the volume goes from rather soft to louder than desired. WHAT VOX?

5-0 out of 5 stars The best " pair of radios" I bought !
I just bought them yesterday,a and it worked great. When I tried it around our house this afternoon, it worked flawlessly.I can hear my partner very clearly. The FM radio is a great feature, so is the fold-down antenne. The only cons I have with this radio is the volume for the FM radio. When I used the included earphones, it was too loud, and when I listened to the radio again, using my own headphones, that I had for a long time, I can only hear the sound from the left side of the headphones.I didn't do that much research on this product, but it was the first time I got a good deal with our a lot of research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Radio
i purchased two last week and used it for the 1st time this weekend. i tell ya, this is one heck of a radio. i split up with my wife at the mall and we were able to contact each other all day long with no static. at opposite extreme points of the mall we were about .5 miles away from each other and the radio performed flawlessly. between our calls we were able to listen to the built in FM radio via the supplied earphones. very good reception too. on the way home we tested the radio's range. at 1 mile reception was clear with a litle static. at 1.5 miles there was more static but it was good enough to communicate. at 2 miles a lot more static but stll decent clarity. not bad for a busy location with lots of 4-6 story buildings between us. buy it, you won't regret it. ... Editorial Review

You'd be hard-pressed to find an FRS radio that packs as many features into such a compact and attractive package as Cobra's FRS115 Microtalk. In addition to having a multitude of advanced communications features, the Microtalk is the only radio in Cobra's line capable of picking up AM and FM signals. This allows you to listen to stereo broadcasts via headphones attached to the integrated headphone jack. Incoming FRS broadcasts temporarily disrupted the AM or FM reception, which enabled us to listen to our favorite tunes and talk radio programs without missing an important transmission from a member of our group. • Digital AM/FM stereo tuner with 10 memory presets

3-0 out of 5 stars Frs/fm convenience but low quality
I use the Frs 115 in a high noise enviroment. I bought it specifically for the radio function. I was forced to use a mono earpiece with it, as the internal speaker was totally inadequate. With earpiece it is decent. When my supervisor told me to quit using an earpiece, I purchased a handheld speaker/mic unit. I have tried two spkr/mic units with this radio and the output of the radio is totally unacceptable. The amp for the jacks seems to incompatible with Radioshack and Icom brands of spkr/mic. I want to try a Cobra spkr/mic. Also, my units couldn't pick up radio signals very well at all, even when outside of the house. Volume control only has 8 steps and will not turn unit all the way down. Auto interrupt for calls is a nice feature. I got my units refurbished , so that may be one reason I have had problems with them. The radios have also just stopped working a couple of times, and I had to let them sit for a minute before turning them back on. The fragile belt holster included with unit btoke while I was sitting in a Ferris Wheel.

4-0 out of 5 stars keep in touch and listen to the radio
It's nice to have a built in AM/FM radio in this FRS 2-way Cobra radio. While waiting for your party to call in, you can listen to your favorite stations and it 'cuts' in when they try to reach you.2-0 out of 5 stars Good for the kids
This radio is good for the kids. The am/fm provides options not available on all other such devices. It has a flexible antenna and includes a belt clip. I found the buttons somewhat difficult to push and the case a bit slippery. The serious user will want rubberized grips.Overall a good value. ... Read more
