BUYER BEWARE - AMAZON SELLING OLD VERSION 2
I recently purchased this item from Amazon. What I received was version 2 of this modem. The current version on the Linksys site is version 4. As a Cox customer, the results of my purchase were unsatisfactory. I will be returning this and purchasing the version 4 Linksys from another vendor.

I am happy that I purchased this modem as it saved me $5.00 in rental cost from my cable company.It seems to make my Internet browsing faster and the price was very competitive.

The product was easy to load onto my Windows based computer using Windows XP.I connected everything as instructed and as soon as I plugged in the TV cable to the back of the modem, My internet explorer picked up the signal and put me at the log in page for new accounts of my cable provider.

I haven't gotten it yet. I ordered it on October 9th. I clicked "ships in 3-5 business days", the next day I got my e-mail receipt.

Pay no attention to the negative reviews of this product.RF links are all about math and the gain of this antenna produces a directed signal that is hundreds of times stronger that what you get out of one of those standard wifi omni antennas.The people frowning on it are likely trying to use a radio link in an environment where rf is just not feasible.

Controllerless = WinModem
The product info doesn't mention this, but this modem is a controllerless modem (a.k.a. WinModem) which means it only works on Windows (not Linux or Mac).Also, controllerless modems usually perform slightly worse than controller-based modems.

Awesome modem
I live in a rural area, and have tried several PCI modems, but couldn't get better than 31.2K connect. This TrendNet modem installed easily (Win98SE), and connects at 44K all the time. I'm pleased!

TRENDNET not the best for Macintosh
I won't buy from this manufacturer again.No Mac drivers.

Great Product, Shouldn't Be Used With 12V Equipment.
I'll be the second engineer to tell you not to use this product with any 12V equipment. Devices require some fixed amount of power to operate and when you supply 5V to a device that expects 12V, it's going to get the power, at the expense of drawing over twice as much current. This will cause the device to operate outside its operating specifications, probably run hotter, and probably fail earlier.

It really does work with 12v
I have the WRT54G v.2 that uses a 12 volt power supply.I plugged this PoE in and it worked right way even thought it said 5v output.It has been running now for 4 months with no problems. I guess the reviewer who is "the engineer with 25 years experience" was incorrect- experience does not count for actually doing it.

Also useful for 48V DC POE devices
Appears to implement 802.3af Power Over Ethernet (POE) standard in full.Marked down because the documentation supplied and available on Linksys web site is so dismal.

Works Well With Linux
I live in Internet Siberia and bought this to hook up a network of 5 machines.
Works great with SuSE Linux
I bought this modem because I couldn't find a Linux driver for my PCI modem. Since this a hardware modem it should work with most OSes.I wasn't disappointed. Setup was a breeze under YaST. All I had to do was select the modem from a list modems that was found by the system and I was done! The modem connected on first try and not once was it disconnected.

The modem seemed to work fine
I can't recall anything horrible about the modem.I used the modem for about a month and it worked.It never reached its peak modem speed though.I was told that this has more to do with the phone line than the modem itself.Regardless, I can attest to the fact that the modem did disconnect quite a bit.However, it would reconnect just as quickly.My main concern was the promise of increased modem speed; I just never saw it.I should have just continued to use the one that came with my computer. ... A modem that works with any operating system
I bought this modem so that I could use the internet on a Linux operating system. All my other modems were winmodems --that is, they required Windows to work. This modem was delivered within a week of ordering, and shipping and handling were free. My only problem with it was that while the description stated it would work with Linux, the manual didn't mention anything other than Windows. Also, the only things on the included CD were a copy of the manual in PDF and a Windows driver.This would confuse most users who do not know if a corresponding Linux driver is necessary.

Does not install in XP or OS X
I bought this and tried to install it.CD provided did not meet XP certification and it warned me not to proceed/I did anyway and modem never ran.

USR makes great modems; this one is no exception...
Never had a problem with ANY US Robotics modem.Always a strong-manin the modem arena.A real modem (i.e., hardware; not a software "Win Modem").

US Robotics V.92 (USR5686D) Modem
This product IS NOT backwards compatible with 56KFlex or V.90 service providers even though US Robotics claims "V.90 56K and x2 technology compatible". It may function correctly if your service provider has upgraded to the new V.92 digital service but, if not, you'll be very disappointed and very lucky to connect as high as 28Kbps. US Robotics admits the modem has problems connecting at advertised speeds with V.90 service providers and I would not recommend purchase until US Robotics can prove they have fixed the flaw. ...
