4-0 out of 5 stars Great speaking dicitionary
I am extremely pleased with this product. It is extremely helpful when you're not sure how to spell a word, and gives you many options. The speach clarity is great also. I have purchased three of these already. One for me, then my daughter wanted one , and just purchased one for my mother. We are all very pleased! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because my vision is impaired from multilple sclerosis, and I wish I could increase the font sizer just a bit larger. The font size is adjustable, just not quite large enough for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Owned one for years, still good product
I've had one of these for over 14 years now, when they first started coming out.My brother has the original one I got freshman year in high school, and I have one I got junior year. This item is still very much the same as it was 14 years ago, just a little sleaker and smaller. Very easy to use, turn on, type the word, and search. It still has thesaurus and games, and as reviews below mention, occasionally still brings up entertaining words if you are as bad of phonetic speller as I am.This item is excellent to save you from digging through pages of a dictionary in search of just a spelling, and not the definition. A must if you can't even get the first 3 letters square like I do looking up words.
3-0 out of 5 stars Adult user
This is an excellent tool for a higher-grade student who needs help with spelling because Spelling Ace doesn't offer any extra information that might be used for cheating. It fits inside the adult hand and is light (it isn't going to weigh down a briefcase, purse or knapsack). The lid is not very secure and I snapped it off while taking it out of the shipping container but I was able to snap it back together. The spelling software is decent and is more phonetic than the spell checkers found in traditional PC software. The price is right! The only caveat I have is that wouldn't recommend it for anyone with visional perception issues because the digital lower case letters are difficult to differentiate.

4-0 out of 5 stars great use in the classroom
I use these with my third graders in the classroom and have recommended them to parents whose kids' just flounder when it comes to spelling. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars OUT OF TROUBLE AGAIN
My wife is a crossword nut who doesn't do well with Saturday and Sunday's New York Times crossword puzzles.I think the Times puzzles gets crappier as the week progresses with clues having as little to do with the solution as fast food has anything to do with proper nutrition or as the 'Republican' noise machine has anything to do with integrity and honesty. She likes them nonetheless and it does give me more free time as the week develops while she clamors through her various aids (cheat devices) to uncover a word that is and remains clueless.Lazy or incompetent puzzle producers get by through teaching puzzlers code words that link other more meaningful words as answers that make folks feel smarter once they master the code. She loves the 206 and says it "Kicks butt" ...thanks ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
Fantastic dictionary that has just about any word I can possibly think of. It gives context, conjugates, and is truly a quality product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best gadget I ever bought
I moved to the Dominican Republic with very basic Spanish and soon found out that dictionaries are only good if you know the basic form of a word i.e. the infinitive of a verb. This dictionary allows me to type in the conjugated form and still get a definition. It's great! It also provide idiomatic information and practical translations of common phrases and expressions. It's easy to use and I carry it everywhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible but flawed
I bought this version after my previous older model died (it lasted a long time and survived several trips to Mexico and Venezuela).

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy it.
The screen cracked in a few weeks. You do not need to drop it or scratch it.I left on a desk, with the battery in, for three weeks untouched and it is broken with a big drop of blue ink image coveing 1/3 of the screen.
3-0 out of 5 stars A good electronic dictionary for its price.
A good electronic dictionary for its price. It's light-weight and pocket-size, easy to use. The drawback about it is that is doesn't have enough vocabulary I need. So, if you have more budget, consider buying other electronic dictionaries with more vocabulary.

1-0 out of 5 stars I don't know if the dictionary is any good...
...because it broke before I really had a chance to use it. I bought this dictionary to use at school, but it didn't even last a day in my backpack. The screen cracked beyond repair, and the plastic cover did nothing to protect it. My sister had one of these too, and she had the same problem. If it can't last in any place where it might get banged around a bit, it's not be very durable.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great product, needs an update...
This is a very valuable product for anyone who wants to improve their Scrabble(R) game. For checking definitions (not that serious scrabblers always care about that) it is much quicker than leafing through a dictionary. The Jumble Game is particularly valuable when set at the higher level for seven letter words. However, don't buy this product UNTIL Franklin updates it with the new Scrabble word list! Email Franklin at service@franklin.com and tell them you might be interested IF they would do the update!

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin Scrabble Companion
The Franklin Scrabble Companion (FSC) was priced fairly, and delivered promptly.A nice touch was the cloth bag with draw-string into which the FSC is stored when not in use. This product has a tendency to go into failure modes - this is the second one I've purchased and both products have this same tendency. However, there is a simple fix when this happens - depressing with a narrow point a button on the back always seems to work.In our Scrabble Club, the allowable words are changing; unfortunately, the FSC does not include these new words (eg., QI, FE, KI, ZA, ...).Not sure what Franklin's plans are to update the current model....

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Companion
I had been browsing the web looking at various word games for my nieces aged 6 and 11. I wanted one that would help in building their vocabulary and at the same time offer some fun. Finally I decided to buy Franklin Scrabble Companion. My nieces vocabulary has improved a lot. The electronic dictionary is great and it also prevents my older niece from taking advantage of the younger one who doesn't know to use a dictionary. My sister and brother-in-law also got hooked to the game and enjoy it immensely. Playing scrabble has become sort of a routine in their house that they look forward to eagerly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Handy Dandy Little "Bible Calculator"!
I have done 25 of those Rick Warren inductive Bible studies since 1990. I look up quite a few cross reference verses in my studies and this electronic Bible is very essential now that I started using it. I used to be on some sort of mailing list for Dallas Theological Seminary before, and they had advertised some sort of CD Rom Bible study library for $500.00. I did not have the money to afford it. And my computer did not have a CD Rom port. And I used to do alot of praying to God for these things. But once I had seen Jack Van Impe hawking the Franklin Electronic Bible oin TV for $25 more than what they sold it for at the Christian bookstore. He endorsed it and said he actually used it in his studies. I reasoned that if a rich televangelist like Jack Van Impe who can afford the best of computers and software in 1994 and can have anything he wants uses this, it is good enough for me!
1-0 out of 5 stars Excessive pricing is dishonest
This item can be found in K-Mart, Wal-Mart,Christian book suppliers, etc for $49.00 or less. To charge almost twice as much even if it's new, plus shipping is total greed and very immoral. It's taking advantage of people who don't know better. This is the kind of mentality that has corrupted our country and if it is not corrected and the greedy whores removed we will not survive as a nation. And this is not hype, it's reality regardless of what the greedy, self-centered say. It definetly is NOT free- enterprise and it should never be encouraged.

4-0 out of 5 stars great to take everywhere
I bought this as a tool and a toy.Walking to and from classes and going about my day I tend to have a lot of down time.Rather than waste it daydreaming, I just flip open my electronic bible and pick a verse to ponder.Great for meditation. It's not as intimidating as a big, thick bible and its easier to focus on one verse at a time.Use the four lines per screen setting for better readability.

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin HW 216 IS WONDERFUL
This product is great. More parents should purchase it for their children. It gives your children the independence that they desire when doing homework and also you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin HW 216 Homework Wiz Plus
My ten year old daugther is making great use out of the Franklin HW 216. In the car on the way to school she can easily review her spelling words. The big display is great for easy spell checking and the hangman game helps with the spelling too. The problem with the device is that it is very difficult to get the very small philips head screw out of the battery lid so that the four AAA bateries can be installed. I ended after almost an hour of trying opitcal screw drivers having to drill out the screw with a fine drill. Franklin customer service says this is a problem that they are aware of and hope to re-design the battery compartment in the future.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the Serious Reader
I bought this because it sounded like such a great idea.
1-0 out of 5 stars Worked for five minutes
This product worked for about five minutes but then failed. After 4 resets, it has remained stuck on the date. I'll be returning it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Still going to look
I received this as a gift for Christmas and I have two main complaints.First, and more important, I would say 1/3 of the words I look up are not in this product.I have a decent vocabulary, but I'm no lexicographer, and it's frustrating not to find so many words. The second complaint is that the buttons are difficult to push and I wish the product would default to "dictionary mode" when I turn it on, rather than always have to push an extra button to get there. It is a dictionary after all--why would I buy this if I really wanted a calculator? It's a nice feature, but bury that somewhere else and make it easy for me to look up my word without having to push extra buttons (which are hard to push!)I'm sure there's something better out there...now I'm off to find it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great idea, made shabby
I bought this for my 7 year old (2nd grade) who unfortunately has my personal affliction of not being able to spell that well.We tried the traditional route of book dictionaries but they were heavy and cumbersome and took lots of time to find the words.Especially if it was a derivative of a word like friendly instead of friend. The longer it took the more frustrated he became and his homework was starting to suffer. Most kids limit their writing to what they can easily spell and his work looked like it was being produced by a 4 year old.I figured this product could fill four shoes at once.First, if you can't spell this will probably be able to locate the correct word. This is the answer to that age old question of how am I supposed to look it up if I don't know how to spell it?If you spell it wrong it searches and comes up with a number of different possibilities and usually your word is on that list. And if your child is young like mine and is not the best reader yet (3rd grade level) it will actually pronounce the word so he can be sure the right word has been located.Secondly, it can hold his spelling words that he gets every week.So at night he can take this to bed with him and study without a book or paper. You can also play games with just your spelling words so it reinforces the spelling without the traditional sit down and write it 4 or 5 times (or sometimes 15 if you really can't get it, ugh).Third, he doesn't want me reading with him any more and I don't want to make an issue out of that if I don't have to.But how could I be sure that he was reading the correct words? If he gets stumped by a word all he has to do is plug it in and it pronounces it for him and he can move on (he usually knows it from there) but even if he is not familiar with the definition he can get it right then and there. And if the definition contains words he doesn't know it can speak it to him or he can choose to look up those words.Using the product is very intuitive and easy. With just one lesson he as able to negotiate around the dictionary with little or no help.As I am doing things around the house I will hear the computer voice and know that he is using it.Finally, we started to play scrabble and my husband and I let him use the dictionary to see if he can make words with his tiles. Now every time he asks how to spell something we say look it up and we no longer get that horror stricken look.3-0 out of 5 stars Speaking part is not aggrable with standard phonetics
I agree with dictionary part. It works great for kids. The speaking part is generated as from synthesis of computer speaking. Which isnot same as standard phonetic practice. I thnik technology didn't match to the existing phonetic practice.I will prefer Franklin HW 216 Homework Wiz Plusinstead of this one for the given price. Also the cover designdid not take consideration of kids, they are fragile. My kidbrokethe cover in the second day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for students with learning disabilities
The speaking feature is a Godsend for students with reading disabilities.Excellent phonetic spell checking feature with homonym support (students can easily figure out when to use to, too or two, or their, there, they're, etc with built in features).Best for elementary, some middle school age students.I do wish there was a way to upgrade to their larger dictionary. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars I had to return two!
I had to return two units because the display was missing lines!
1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
I also purchased this item from a local store and we could not read it. The words were broken up. We purchased a new battery thinking it was low and got the same exact results. We returned the item to the store but purchased another online thinking the first one was just defective. We were wrong, the second one was EXACTLY the same. My son needed one for school so I finally bought the Franklin Spelling Ace and it is awesome.

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
Don't waste your money on this one folks. I bought this as a birthday gift for my mother and it's very defective. The LCD display has two large non functional strips in it, rendering it useless. This occured after only one day of light use. Seiko wants to charge us for the shipping there and back to replace it, which to Japan is pretty pricey. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful product
I purchased this Bible a few weeks ago and I love it.I'm finding that I'm reading the Bible more than ever now. It's easy to use and cross-reference.Now I don't spend so much time thumbing through looking for verses. There are also a lot of nice features (such as Daily Devotional Verses) and add-on capapilities. It's compact so I can take it anywhere. A+++++

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Bible!
First off if your wanting the NKJ then this is NOT for you, however if you like referencing verses between versions and are tired of having to lug around a Bible and a concordance to find what you need then this is for you.It has an excellent concordance as well as devotional. It makes it easy to find verses you need. A greay buy!

1-0 out of 5 stars notNew King James version
ordered this item which was advertised as 'Franklin BIB-1450 New King James/International Dual Bible' specifically to get the NEW KING JAMES Translation. The unit is advertised incorrectly in Amazon.com. it is not New King James Translation. it is KJV/NIV. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great little thesaurus & dictionary
This is a great little tool for use in the office especially when you type a lot of memos, policies, procedures, etc. I use it primarily for the thesaurus, so I cannot comment on the other features. The only problem I have is that the lid pops off every time I use it. No biggie, but a fact.

5-0 out of 5 stars can't you read
First, this Franklin Spelling Ace is excellent. My children use it everyday in school and at home, and second it is recommended for age groups from 5-13 years old. Dah

2-0 out of 5 stars absolute crap
ok so i bought this figuring it will help me with essays and homework. I firgured this would not be the best, but would do its job and that what i wanted. Well it doesnt. First of all the dictionary isnt completely accurate. The Thesaurus and calculator are good. When this came to my door, i was expecting something smaller, and more sleek. This is huge (bigger than my hand) heavy and the letters are huge. They take up the whole screen, so you have to scroll to the sides and up and down to read the words. Overall its junk, its not worth the money, get something a bit more so its worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product at a Great Price!
I am an avid Franklin user. This product was purchased as a gift for my mother. She is very happy with this product and uses it regularly.
5-0 out of 5 stars solid built, convenient, better than just the bible
I bought the Franklin Holman bible dictionary 6 months ago because I wanted something faster to find verses during bible study. The model is HBD 1450 which should not be confused with the BIB 1450 model, which is the KJV and NIV bible only. This unit is the first electronic bible I've own.The unit retails for $89.95 but I got mine for $50.
