5-0 out of 5 stars Ebookman rocks.
I really enjoy this item for downloading ebooks. There's not alot of memory for the MP3's but that's okay you just need to buy a MMC card (or Multi-Media Card I like Scan Disk they are a good brand). But when You get your book downloaded it's all good and I don't use MP3's any way so no big. It also has all the PDA features such as voice memo, phone book, calculator, game downloading capability, dictionary, ect. Over all a great way to keep organized and to read ebooks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy EBM-911
I bought the Ebookman for $40 a few years ago.The unit is just small enough to fit in a shirt pocket but large enough with 3 font sizes to read. The mp3 music sounds good for me but it was meant more for audio books.I would prefer the backlight to be brighter. sure it uses batteries even while off and if they die then you WILL lose all data. I never had a problem with that because I use a multimedia card that has the entire system backed up. it's easy to backup daily.I use NiMH bats. When bats die I pop in fresh NiHMs and the unit automatically restores the system with all the data. It's a great deal for $40.Mine is still working after 4 years of use. The pen does lock in so I never lost it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, But!!
Great product. The data loss is OK.There is room for an expandion mmc card so no bigee. Not bad for the money compared to other PDAs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Overalled Pleased
I am very happy with my ebookman-901, there are one or two things that I am not too pleased about. Number one being the MMC , once you load one that you have stored books on, back into your ebookman to read later on, is that its takes forever for it to bring the books up to read, also its makes up the ebookman infor., you end up having to download the os applications again or it won't sync. The second thing is its hard finding places that you can find to download music from onto your ebookman. But since I mainly use mine to for ebooks that's is great by me. Thanks again for this product I can carry so my books with me now to choose to read from now.

Straight forward: you should buy this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Meets Needs, but False advertisement
I ordered this cable hoping that it would help with getting away from the limited use of the USB cradle due to the fact that I have a PDA case that requires velcro on the back. With the velcro, the once natural fit of the eBookman on the cradle becomes too snug and I am afraid I am going to damage the unit everytime I attach the device on. In turn, I purchased the USB cable, but the picture that Amazon shows is a long "version" of the cord. Looking closer, it looks like they just chopped off the USB cable from a cradle and showed that, being that cable is longer. In reality, the cable is a very short limited one. No wonder they offer it for 51% off. But oh, do they make up for the cost in shipping and handling. When I got the product and saw how short it was, I was naturally disappointed. I was looking for a long USB cable as advertised, long and convienent, and instead I got a limited short reachability. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent ebook reader
I have this unit (purchased on eBay a couple of years ago) as well as the original Nuvomedia Rocket eBook. I purchased this device only because I was concerned that one day my original Rocket would stop recharging. That's the reason for 4 stars: proprietary, non-replaceable battery. However, battery life is excellent. With backlighting set at 20%, I get 8-12 hours of reading on a charge. That's enough for a flight from Chicago to Tokyo. So far, both my devices are still holding a charge just fine.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Device
Why would someone write a review online for a product that has not been produced for over 3 years? Two reasons. One, I really do love this unit and believe it is the closest to a workable model for and Ebook reader yet.Second, I wrote my Masters thesis on this topic so I have had to spend far too much time looking at the market and usage of these devices.
4-0 out of 5 stars Do not believe the hype
To address a previous poster's concerns - they are baseless - this unit works fine with HTML, TXT and other formats.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Can Find It, Buy It!
I love my eBook! When I travel, I sometimes have 40 titles in it, and never run out of things to read. I especially love the way I can download free books from the Gutenberg Project and other public domain sites and load them into the reader. I can download HTML pages, and portions of web sites and have them to read. The backlit screen is very easy to read and requires no external light. You can adjust the light to accomodate a dark room or direct sunlight. I collect web pages and e-mail I've not read yet and upload them to the book. I have bought a few current titles from booksellers, with no shipping and immediate delivery too. Now the downside: It's so easy to get lots of good literature free that authors and book sellers are missing out on a cut of the profits. After all, if you want to read Mark Twain, why pay for a copy when it's all over the Internet, free? So they've stopped making this wonderful gadget, and the replacements from RCA actively discourage you from loading your own materials into the ebook. You can still find the software to do it, but you need to search for it. They also keep the prices very high,...for an ebook! I think this means the format is being driven out of the market slowly. This could eventually limit new, non-public domain book availability, but there will be thousands more freely available books too, plus all the reading you normally do on your computer screen, such as this web page. It will continue to be possible to use the ebook for that. Unless they come up with a PDA with a large, very readable backlit screen, with long-life batteries and highly ergonomic usability, it'll still be easier to read a Rocket ebook!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth having "if".
My Rocket eBook is most enjoyable in the dark hours of night if you haveproblems sleeping as I do.No more flashlights and no lamps on to disturbyour partner. It travels just great.. the battery seems to last forever, you don't even need to pack your charger if a weekend trip. The"only" complaint I have is the lack of Best Sellers available andespecially, the cost of the few that are.We all have the common sense torealize that if the publishers are NOT spending their money on printing, shipping, etc., they should be able to pass on these savings. At anydiscount store, we can get printed versions of a Best Seller for about$15.00.. Any new book should be available for this $15.00 or less.psv

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a terrific product!
I have had one of these for about two months, and am totally hooked on it.It has some readily apparent advantages (portability, ease of use, etc.), but some advantages that are not so apparent--it has focused my reading onsome classics that I missed earlier in my reading life (as most e-texts arecurrently non-copyrighted materials; I finally got through Moby Dick) andit has helped to improve my computer skills (to get the absolute most outofit, you need to be able to do some somewhatsophisticated computerstuff). Probably its best feature for me is the portability factor--Ican carry a wide variety of texts, articles, etc. on the rocket book in asingle, easy to use package. Since I read both voraciously andomnivorously, this is a real plus. I also like the feature that allowsdifferent screenaspects (4 way print)--one setting is good for reading inbed, another for reading in a restaurant, etc. The one drawback is thecomparitively small memory--if you want to maintain/save some of thingsthat you have read, the 2MB memory quickly fills up.But I think that thevalue and utility of the product overall outweighs this quibble. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars "No longer in production" doesn't mean "not useful"
First, let's address the issue of content for the REB 1200. Some reviewers mark down the reader because of a perceived lack of content. To my mind, this is akin to saying that a computer is useless because you can't find a specific software package for it. Rate the device on its own points; discuss the content issue separately.
5-0 out of 5 stars Company may be Obsolete, but..
The company may be obsolete but if you can buy this used, I suggest you do. Ebooks are not hard to find if you know your way around the internet. Or if you are familiar with mIRC. Just because the company doesnt make them anymore doesnt mean they wont work. Just get a copy of rocket librarian and you are all set. It really is worth it.
