This product could be a lot better.
Be Warned:The Remote Requires Accurate Aiming
The remote control might drive you batty.You have to point it directly at whatever it's controlling in order for it to work.Besides the obvious, this means that unless you've memorized the buttons and can feel which is which, you must hold the remote level and then lean forward to read its labels and press its buttons.
Unreliable DVD Player
I purchased three Sonly SLV-D370P DVD/VCR Combos. Of the three, two have had to be returned within the first 30 days because of the DVD player. All seems well until the DVD player freezes. Then from that point on it refuses to load any DVD. It attempts to load for several minutes, then an error message appears on the screen stating that the disc cannot be read. Avoid this unit. ... Works exactly as advertised.
Wow, I searched alot and read alot of reviews of unhappy owners of other equipment and I chose this one for converting edited home VHS to DVD. My reasoning was that panasonic has alot of experience in both VCR and DVD, their systems sometimes lack extras like zoom but they tend to last a long time and are well built. I liked the extra large fan and cabinet height as compared to the LG 299 and I did not feel LG had to much experience with vcr. I have not tried out all the features yet but right now I am very happy, also I recommend buying the extended replacement warranty on any equipment of this type, there are alot of horror stories out there. I have some gaps between my clips and I was worried the system might stop recording on these but no problem, thanks panasonic.

NeedHD-upcoding and a VHS? This DVD recorder is the one !
This is the latest generation (in summer of '06 anyway) of the new DVD recorders / players that upcode to attain near HD quality.(You will need a HD TV for that).It also has a VCR/VHS built in. If you need all that, you can't do better for the price.If you don't expect to connect to an HD TV (now or in the next year) go for a simpler model (eg., a progressive player w/o upcoding or a product w/o the VCR).

Nice alternative
I couldn't afford the DSM-520 from DLink, and my family still used VHS (very retro). I saw this, and the DivX label caught my eye. So I bought it. Then I looked at the reviews, which were scant and negative. I decided to open the box and set it up so I could add a review for others.
If you plan to use this for more than 6 months, don't buy
I bought two of these units, exactly one week apart.I liked the first one so much, I bought a second one for the family room.6 months later, almost to the day, the DVD drive on the first unit stopped working (I had to take the thing apart to extract the trapped DVD).One week later, on the second unit, the VHS tray began seeing a tape even though none was loaded which meant I couldn't load a real tape.So, 6 months after buying two combo units, I now have one DVD player and one VCR. ... After hearing all the negative reviews here, I figured I should avoid this
not a quality product
I have not been happy with this product.It works sometimes, and sometimes it just freezes up.I have tounplug it to get it going again. Also, vhs tapes get stuck inside, and are difficult to get out.Also, after recording a dvd, you have to finalize it to be able to use it on other brands of dvds.Well, often it will just quit with an error condition in the middle of trying to finalize a dvd.When that happens, you probably just lost everything you had recorded.

Better than competition...
This combo unit has a good DVD player/recorder and a good quality VCR.It is only 2-head but the quality is good -- much better than Samsung's 4-head VCR.If you want to transfer VHS to DVD and want a combo unit to do this, then this is probably your best bet (or the 45VS if you want upconversion to HD).
Everything I wanted
I love this combo. I have had it for two months and it has worked wonderfully. Transfers are easily achieved. The DVD recorder also accepts all DVD recordable media including DVD-Ram. Playback quality is very nice. Scheduled recording is simple with an intuitive on-screen interface. The DVD player is a little loud during recording but I have gotten used to that. I have found this to be the best DVD/VCR recorder I could buy at this price range. Very satisfied.

Jittery still images
I bought this item in May.First exchanged it and then returned it.My problem was jittery (shaky) images while watching a still picture and some animated movies (like South Park).The other problem mentioned in the other reviews about remote control is fixed now.You need to download the patch by use of a computer.

Great for the RV
We were looking for a small light weight TV-DVD combination for our RV.The Axion performs well playing even MPEG 3 and DVD, CDR, and has video input for our digital camcorder.The sound is good, but could use exterior speaker connections.The 12V-120V connector is great for RV users since AC is not always available.With quick mounts, the TV can be used in many locations.The picture quality is very good.

Very rarely am I so impressed where I feel compelled to write up an optional review of something I purchase. But in this case im happy to take the time to do so. My reason for buying this product was to keep informed of news and weather condition's during power outages, I have a 1500 Volt Ampre UPS battery back-ups system hooked up to this TV and between it's very modest voltage requirements, DVD feature, and of course TV capability, It's worked out astronomically well..........The performance and quality of service/reception it provide's is second to NOTHING ive used in the past. Im a 2-Way radio comm's tekky type person, and always beleived in being prepared for the un-expected, but I must stress the point as to how well this little TV work's & what a fine fit and finish the company put into it's production of this DVD/TV/Video Display unit. Perfect for my needs
In spite of some of the poor reviews for this product, it met all of my expectations 100%. Thanks to the reviews, I understood that the unit doesn't have a builtin antenna or batteries, which was helpful to know in advance. But of course the specifications never claimed those features in the first place.

Slow remote performance
My mother and I both bought this product and have both been less than satisfied (forunately mine got blown up by lightening today and I have a chance to replace it). The remote is very slow in responding to commands. Trying to watch a recorded television show and fast forward through commercials is frustrating. When you push the button to stop fast forward and resume the show, it takes the processor so long to follow through, you are well into the scene of the show. Try to re-wind to catch the first couple of sentences again and you're back into the commercial so far, you should have just watched that ad and not missed the show intro.
Don't waste your money....
Like others here I fell for the Sony name brand. What a mistake!! The DVD player freezes constantly and often gives "disk error" messages. I checked the same DVD's on other players I have and they worked fine in OTHER players. I will never buy a Sony product again unless its reviews are 100 per cent positive. I have a no name player from "Cyber Home" which we won in a contest. It performs flawlessly. SONY BUYERS BEWARE!!!

Pretty Good Player
We just purchased a new sony DVD/VCR Combo to replace our old Sonic Blue model which sereved us pretty well for for about five years. There was nothing wrong with it, but it lacked some of the more modern features sutch as starting from the same place when you stop. I was impressed by the size, it fit our small cabinet nicely. The remote works for our Sony TV too which was cool so we don't have to juggle remotes. as far as the VCR is concerned the play quality is very good, but when fast forwarding or rewinding the response time is very slow and I often go past whatever it is I'm aiming for. The DVD player is the sameway, excellent play quality but using the remote takes way too long. Also the door on the DVD player takes forever to open. I have NEVER noticed ANY damage of any kind to any of my tapes or DVDs so just for that factor I would probably get another one. ... Read more

We bought this for archiving videos from a video camera.The interface is just horrible and just not well thought out.The owner's manual is poorly written.Half the time the player spits the empty DVD out saying "disc full" without having archived anything.

Good When Timer Settings Not Erased
I have owned the Philips HDRW720 DVR for about 2 years now.When it is working, I really enjoy it.I can record video regularly, edit them, save them to DVD, and delete them.This includes home videos that can be transferred to the hard drive via the input jacks.

Just Amazing !!!!!
The first time I saw this piece was at Wal-mart. I had listened to Sony,Philips, JVC, Panasonic, RCA in that order, the difference was instantly clear. Then I went back to listen to the Philips again and the difference was clear.I recommend that first time buyers should go to a store with several brands on display that they could listen to. I made up my mind that ifI wanted a home theater in a box (HTIB)package it will be the Philips brand.This was about 10 months ago. Each time I stopped by the electronic section of any store I would check it out. Finally, I decided to buy one. Next thing was to read expert reviews and consumer reviews. Most reviews rated it high. However, I was concerned about the hissing sound some consumers had experienced.I still went ahead to buy one at Fred Meyer for $179:00 on sale, if I did not like it, I will return it, I reasoned. I bought the black colored piece. Costco and Radioshack had it on sale for the same price but Fred Meyer is closer to my home.
Horrible DVD player
I have bought and returned three of these units now. Each one has been defective, and finally I just gave up on returning the system. The DVD player constantly gives "Bad Disc" errors and skips if there is even the slightest smudge on a disc. The sound quality is very nice for the price, but since the player doesn't work, it's essentially useless. This is a complete rip-off at any price point.

Great unit after the firmware upgrade and learning curve
After learning how to use this machine, and applying a factory-provided firmware upgrade, we have been very satisfied. There are many features on this dvr. We use this dvr to record home school classes from Bob Jones Homesat.
Absolutely "Amazing" machine! ...but it is difficult to use.
First let me say that this machine for the price is simply AMAZING!
Do not buy this machine
I bought the RD-XS34 a little over two months ago.The Tivo functions work flawlessly.I immediately tested the DVD recorder functions and they worked flawlessly as well.For about 1 month.At this point the Dvd player neither records nor plays any DVD disk at all.Not commercial disks.Not DVDs it made.It is 100% nonfunctional.Less than 90 days after purchase.Don't buy it. ... for the love of god, don't buy it!
after 2 weeks, vhs tapes were being eaten, then refused to cough them up - and other maladies that i don't have time to go into.

I am on my third because they keep breaking
I was expecting a quality Sony product when I bought this.I have another sony DVD player that I have been using for about 3 years without any problems.This unit is another story.

I have 2 of these and am thinking about a third, but I really want to get a DVD recorder/VCR unit that has the one feature of this that I really love.And that is the "Dail Timer" on the front of the machine.We aren't really into technology so I don't really know if the video/dvd quality is any good, and I rarely use the DVD player, although I don't recall having any problems when I did, but I record ALOT of shows and the dial timer lets me set the unit to record without ever having to turn the TV and recorder on.It's really neat and I use it tons.The SONY DVD/VCR recorder unit doesn't have this feature which is why I may get another one of these.I put a splitter where my cable connection comes into a room and don't even have these units hooked up to a TV...although I do have to hook it up to a TV if I goof up the programming and need to use the screen to delete or change the recording info.The remote is pretty lousy but then I never really use that either...just the dial timer...and that works great. ... Huge disappointment
I have had nothing but issues with this product.The screen displays is washed out and the adjustment controls are too limited to fix this.The DVD player constantly skips.The radio antenna is a waste of time. It doesn't pick up anything but the strongest signals and even then with some static.I was leary of an Audiovox product, but wanted the larger screen.My opinion is to forget the extra inch and get the Sony.

Do not buy from Audiovox
This TV broke in the first two weeks I owned it. Both the picture and audio would not work. I brought it to a local repair shop that could not fix it - I called the company and was just outside of their 90 day warranty and they did nothing for me.
Unit failed at 4 months
I like the picture and size of the unit.The sound is a little tinny.Biggest problem is short warranty period.My unit failed after 4 months of occassional use and Audiovox said "too bad it is out of warranty."Maybe they know there is a problem and do not or cannot fix.90 days for a $400 TV is way too short. ... Don't buy
I like many others have been robbed by GoVideo's VR2940. I don't want to rehash all of the other negative comments but this product is a waste of money that does not work.

HOW TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS
First of all, none of the negative reviews here have mentioned anyone attempting to clean their DVD Drive with a DVD Head Cleaner.You should do this FIRST before calling something a piece of junk, and you should make it clear that you are not technicially incompetent, as some of you apparently are.For example, How could a DVD player "Lock me out of my TV" ???And did you bother to FINALIZE your DVDs before trying to play them on a different piece of hardware?
FIX for many GoVideo VR2940 issues
I have been told that this model has a problem with its auto clock that can cause the unit to lock up.Just go into the setup menu, buried deep in the third or fourth column of the menu, at the bottom you will find Auto Clock-turn it OFF, this will help product reliability tremendously.I have also been told ther is no fix for this, so be sure to set it off and leave it off! ...
