7/23rds coasters
7 out of 23 of these discs turned into coasters, at 8x speed with my Powerbook G4.(The other two discs had data corruption.)That's unacceptable, and I'll never buy Verbatim again.

Excellent quality disks - no coasters
I have burnt many DVDs on Verbatim (both +R and +RW) and Verbatim has excellent quality. Not a single disk went bad during burning, and I have had them for over a year and they are still working great.

Buy these!
Having brought approximately 5 or 6 hundred of these disks and in all that time only finding 1 of them to be bad; it is easy to recommend them.I have purchased many different brands before and none of them can compare.Buy these!

Great product, lousy software
I have been using this for about two days now.I guess it is my stupidity, but I found Nero unnecessarily complex.I was not able to record a data disk (double layer) after numerous attempts.The language and the terminology is too Nero-esque.In the end I removed Nero from my computer and am using the Sonic software, which is far superior, faster, simpler, and user-friendlier.My advice is to buy Memorex but never bother with the installation of Nero.Good luck.

Excellent Addition to my computer products.
I am very pleased with the performance of this machine. I bought it to add dual layer dvd's and 16x burning to my aging Powermac G5 from Apple. It has worked perfectly for me and makes DVD's in about 3 minutes. A very nice touch. As a side note, I am a world traveler and I am planning on moving to London at the start of next year. I was afraid that it would not be able to go with me. But I contacted Memorex and it already is wired to work in the U.S. and Europe. That was a nice surprise. Buy this product, you will not be disappointed.

Will not purchase these ever again
Have not been able to successfully burn a DVD on my drive. Firmware is up to date. Have tried burning on 3 different drives and neither of them succeed. Will not purchase these ever again.

What can I say? I have used about 100 of these and have 2 coasters. I call that pretty darn good.

MAC Compatible
I bought this burner to try in my Powermac G4 450 Sawtooth.At the time I was running OSX 10.3.9.Right away I was able to rip and burn DVD's, although the drive was not recognized by the system until I used Patchburn.I later upgraded to OSX 10.4.7 and still works fine.This is a great drive for the price if you're looking for a replacement in a Mac.I know some people dislike lightscribe because it's slow and/or there isn't as much contrast as they want, but I like it a lot.It's a nice drive even if you choose not to use the lightscribe feature.

some reviews i read claimed cheaper LITEON products were noisy and failed to do the job. EZ Burning

  Works as advertized
  Using this unit to replace an OEM DVD that went bad in my HP desktop. This installation went in flawlessly and worked first time out of the box. I would definitely purchase another LaCie product based upon this experience. Have another Lacie external drive that takes some abuse and never fails. So far, a good company.

  I found this drive to be a good value considering that the lightscribe technology is included.I had a quick and trouble-free install and was burning dvds effortlessly and very quickly too, including dual layer discs.The burn speed is comparable to my external Toshiba 16X drive attached to my notebook.

Okay, but not worth the high price
I've had this drive for perhaps a little over a year now.The drive performs very well when it comes to DVD+R, DVD-R, and ripping DVD-ROM.CD's on the other hand are another story.The drive I've got frequently produces coasters when burning faster than 12x, even when using 48x certified media.I decided I could live with it because I rarely burn CD's these days and my trusty old Plextor PX-504A handled CD-R burning very well (I run dual burners).Still, for nearly 1.5x-2x the price of competing models, the PX-716A should blow the doors off the competition in every category, not just DVD.One last nitpick is that this drive seems very sensitive to scratches (even very minor ones), dirty discs, or blank media of less than perfect quality.Using the newest firmware, version 1.09, with a spool of TDK 48x CD-R media has, so far, yielded failure rates around 1 in 4 discs even when burning at much lower speeds than rated.The Fuji-Film CD-R's that I've used are only failing at a rate of around 1 in 8 at the same burn speeds.
Drive Failed Shortly After One Year
I had this drive for just over a year when it just suddenly stopped reading or writing to disks.Tech support was helpful as they answered right away and spoke English, but they basically just confirmed that the drive had failed.Since it was over a year old, it was out of warranty and there was nothing they would do.So, needless to say, I have to purchase a new drive and it certainly will not be one from Plextor.This drive was fast, when it worked, but I did find it to be noisy.

Pioneer DVR-R100B
This unit was very easy to install in the Dell Dimension 4300 with no interferance. I tried the player out and it played a CD that my son had scratch so bad that the CD will not play in any other player. I plan on buying another to replace the DVD-CD burner in my Dell Dimension 8300. Pioneer has made a believer out of me. Thank Pioneer.

Aggressive Software
The DVD drive works fine.I used it without problems for recording on DVD-R media.But the software provided with this drive is a real bummer.It is one of those software bundles that replaces all your current defaults and existing programs.You expect to use the vendor's supplied software and drivers, but the supplied software replaces your existing defaults for viewing images, viewing videos, etc.It was a real pain removing all the extraneous software and returning my settings to what they were before I install the package.
Works OK
The dvd works great on +R dvd DL but not at all on -R DVDs.Their fix doesn't work and support is spotty and so far not helpful. ... Read more
