4-0 out of 5 stars Decent System for the price and speaker size
I have had the MCD702 for about three weeks now and played a number of CD's various genres including classical such as Beethoven's 5th and 6th(Karajan, 1982, as well as various rock CD's from Yes, U2, Neil Young (grunge and ballads), the Cure and other artists. I also sampled some Celtic music. I noticed that the speakers sound tinny and muffled when none of the DSP/Loudness/DBB settings were employed at either low or middle volume levels in my office, a 1950's era 12x10 bedroom. However, I noticed a significant improvement when any of the DSP/Loudness/DBB settings were employed even at the lowest levels and can play most cd's at the 3 or 4 level at acceptable sound levels and with decent/ perhaps even good sound quality. I found the video acceptable through my TV Tuner card to my 17 inch CRT. I did notice a delay between the sound and the video, but I suspect it is TVTuner card related and expect this to be resolved when I hook the system direct to a flat screen monitor/TV.
4-0 out of 5 stars Nice little bookshelf system
This little system has clean lines and very good sound for its size and cost. The speakers are well balanced and have a warm and comfortable midrange that makes the system easy on the ears. I use the system with a computer and a Dell 2405 FPW monitor. The composite video output is very sharp and together the two make for a nice desktop entertainment system. The price is right and the build quality is high. Audiophiles might find the power lacking, but for a desktop entertainment system the Philips MCD708 is a good choice. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good concept, but didn't work for me.
This product seems like just the ticket for HD recording if you have a firewire-equipped television with an integrated ATSC tuner.Unfortunately, I paired the unit with a Samsung HL-R7178W and had no luck.
1-0 out of 5 stars Stay Away
Don't be misled by the product spin above. For those familiar with Tivo or Cable set-top DVR solutions, here are the major shortcomings of the DVR10 you need to know:1-0 out of 5 stars Not ready for prime time

4-0 out of 5 stars No problems after 1.5 years
We've had no performance issues with ours.Have two boys, 6 & 4, who are the primary users so it's not exactly been handled with care.It still holds up well, loads the discs with no problem. My only complaint would be that for some movies, I'm not able to get the image bright enough to be seen clearly. This thing has saved our sanity on many cross-country trips to visit family.Has done well both in the car and on planes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Magnavox MPD720 is not for the long haul
After reading good reviews for this on Amazon.com, I purchased it February 2005. Now I am seeing the more critical reviews from the period after my purchase. The criticism is justified. Within the first 90 days, the Magnavox MPD720 was no longer playing despite no abuse - usually played from my nightstand. I sent it back to the manufacturer who replaced it. Recently I began to hear the dreaded grinding and see the now familiar mid-scene pause - it has stopped loading. So within a year, two machines failed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great little player!
I purchased this DVD player at our local Wal-Mart as a Christmas gift (2004) for my husband who was being deployed to Iraq.He used this player every single day while he was gone and did not have any problems. We have continued to use it since he has been home now and still do not have any problems. In fact, I am here to purchase the car adapter for a trip we will be taking! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Disney would only lend their name to outstanding products and it is!! Well made and very kid friendly. It is easy to set up and has 2 remotes (one for parents and one for kids) and they (like the DVD player) are well made. The kid size is perfect for little hands and the parent's is larger.Even my 4 yr old couldn't harm it.The "feet" are removeable so you will get many years of use and it will fit any "Mickey" TV 13" or 19"

1-0 out of 5 stars The WORST dvd player I've ever seen!!!!
There are reasons why to not buy this:
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD to go with our Mickey TV
I was suprised to read some of the other reviews as we have had ours for 2 years and have had zero problems. 3-0 out of 5 stars Does The Job
I purchased a Terrastaion and a LinkTheater. As stated by others they work well together. The bottom line is that for what I need (Playing DivX files off the server) it does a good job assuming you have a good wireless connection.
2-0 out of 5 stars Less frustrating if you leave it switched off.....
I have my Buffalo LinkTheatre about 18 months and I've diliegently been checking for upgrades to the firmware or software because - IT REALLY NEEDS IT - but they don't come.
1-0 out of 5 stars Missing LinkTheater
First time -- the drive door wouldn't open.Sent it back (to the fairly helpful on-line vendor...) and received a new one that worked (quite nicely) for 3 months. Then the drive stopped working, wouldn't read any disks but an audio CD and that kept clicking.Because it was past the 30 day return policy of the original vendor I had to return it to Buffalo (after spending interminable hours on the phone with tech support) at my own expense. They then sent me a new one, which I hooked up one day and used for 15 minutes. The next day it wouldn't even switch on at all -- something completely dysfunctional in the electronics.Three machines, none of which worked.I will be demanding my money back and will NEVER buy another Buffalo product again. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Battery won't charge
I bought it on sale for 72$ and found it works great with the power-cord, but there was a problem with the battery being dead and not charging for more than a few minutes at a time.

1-0 out of 5 stars defective battery
I just bought this dvd player to keep my child amused on an airplane ride.I was dismayed to find that the battery was completely dead and would not take a charge.I am in the process of returning it to Amazon.com.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible Product, Horrible Service
Like the others who have purchased this awful piece of equipment I experienced the DVD player stopped working at about the 30 day mark.I returned the TV and Philips replaced it with a new one. It's been 5 months and the DVD player still works but now the TV operation is not functioning properly. When I contacted the Philips customer service line I was told that since it is beyond 3 months I'm out of luck.I guess I can use it as a fancy paper weight..................

2-0 out of 5 stars Everyone seems to be having DVD problems!!!
Everyone else seems to love this TV, but I've had my problems.I've had the TV about 3 months and the DVD player decided to stop working. It makes a whirring and clicking sound, but won't load the DVD.I called Magnavox just in time becuase my warranty was about to expire in 3 days. They are making me ship them the TV at my expense, and then they will send me a new one.Even when this TV was working I felt the picture was too dark, and I had to turn the brightness up really high to get a good picture. Also, the speakers are good quality, but just not loud enough. My friend has a Kodak LCD TV and it seems to be much better quality than the Magnavox.I think this unit is just overpriced...not a good value!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value, but DVD player broke after about 60 days
Update: After about 60 days, the DVD player stopped working. I'm currently waiting for service to be completed. I had purchased the Circuit City service plan so I am not forced to mail the TV to Philips at my own expense. I'm reducing the rating I originally gave based on the fact that 4 out of 5 reviews on this site have had the DVD player fail. 2 Stars - it's a good TV, but the DVD player is junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why can't I give no stars?
I have been an electronic nut for years and my mom and dad wanted to purchase me a reliable DVD recorder. I got this one. I am now soafraid of DVD recorders that I won't buy another one. This one worked for exactly 10 recordings. Now nothing. Zilch. Zero. I can't even play the discs that it recorded on it. I can still play commercially produced DVDs and the Dolby Digital is awesome on my surround sound system (Harmon Kardon receiver and Klipsch speakers), but I can't do anything else. I took this to the repair shop three times and they claim that nothing is wrong. I call Sharp and they tell me to try slower recordable speed discs. I even tried to change disc brands, nothing works. I really want a DVD recorder, but if this is how all of them act, then I will stick with VHS for the moment.

1-0 out of 5 stars the WORST
I have 4 DVD recorders.I have 3 Panasonics (great machines) & wanted a 4th but because of the IR remote I was limited to 3.So I needed another brand and SHARP had a good price (it seemed, incorrectly)so I got the SHARP.It is an amazing BAD machine. It doesn't work correctly and getting it fixed is a nightmare. I just sent it back for the second time,it returned today and they fixed NOTHING.It is a true Nightmare,STAY AWAY!!!

I've compared several portable DVD players and have owned three.I have yet to see a better picture quality that on this unit, it is crisp with vivid colors. It also has an S-video out which is very useful for playing on larger TVs.Finally, the fit and finish of this unit is top-notch, it looks and feels like a high quality player compared to other brands. If you are looking for a top quality portable DVD player, this is it.

4-0 out of 5 stars DVP FX 705
The picture and sound are great. I took it on a road trip recently and was pleased. The remote works wonderfully. I did notice one glitch though, and that was maybe in the third or fourth episode the words coming out of the actors mouths were delayed. So I hit the next button bakwards or forwards then went back to the episode and it would play correctly.

I am the mother of 3 and drive a Ford Expedition.I didn't want to get an overhead tv because either they were too small or blocked my vision.I have just ordered online my 3rd tv of this exact same model...seems that thieves like this tv as well.(Remember to cover it, I never did.)I have read the reviews of those who have given it one or two stars and I have to disagree.I have tried several other portable models for autos and am not as satisfied with them. For the price and the size of the screen the Audiovox 1210 is a good deal, also the wireless headphones are great.I would say that if you use this tv alot you should try to get a replacement warranty if available. We had problems with both of our first two not wanting to play dvds at around 10 months. The picture would first start to freeze up and then it would stop working.I did send one back to audiovox and they fixed it no problem in the 13th month of ownership (they give you an extra month of the warranty.)I have always found the picture to be clear and my kids have no complaints on long trips. Also, it is very convenient to be able to bring in the tv to a motel and not have to worry about ordering movies, etc.All in all I obviously would purchase this tv even with the shortcomings that I know it has. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome DVD Player
I have this player and I'm also selling this player. It's awesome and it comes with HDMI/DVI and HDMI/HDMI cable so you wouldn't have to go out and spend extra $$$$ for additional cables. It converts your old DVD to HIDEF picture.Gotta have it if you have HDTV.

Featuring a progressive-scan DVD player combined with a four-head hi-fi VCR, this Toshiba SD-V392 dual-function unit delivers the crisp resolution and enhanced sound of high-quality DVDs paired with the ability to record your favorite programs and movies on VHS tapes. The unit flexibly interacts with a number of audio and video formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-R, video CD, audio CD, and CD-R/RW, along with MP3- and WMA-encoded formats and JPEG digital photo CDs. Like other versatile DVD players, the device also offers a selectable display format, which delivers a choice between interlaced or progressive scan depending on whether users own a HDTV-capable TV. Progressive scan displays images at a higher scan rate for a sharper, richer picture, while interlaced is the standard for traditional non-HDTV televisions.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Died after a year and a half
Very disappointing.I've been a loyal Toshiba customer and used the machine, but did not overuse it, and cleaned the heads regularly and one night, barely a year and a half after purchase it just died. The cost of repair was not worth the investment and it was well past the warranty so I discarded it.It's a shame, I liked Toshiba products but I don't plan to buy another one now.

1-0 out of 5 stars DVD player is terrible
The DVD player won't play many DVD's, even freshly unwrapped new ones.Freezes and stutters.Simply the worst piece of electronic gear I've ever owned.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you record on SLP, you better have a second VCR for playback.
I purchased this unit at fye.com about a year ago. Everything worked fine the first six months, but then I noticed that when I recorded anything on the SLP speed, the picture would start rolling like crazy on playback. I adjusted the tracking manually, also utilized the auto-tracking feature, to no avail. However, when I put the tape in another VCR, it played back fine. So this thing records alright in SLP mode, but forget about playing back any tape you record in that speed, on this machine. It's also a pain in the neck to remember to click that "TIMER REC" button after programming it to record. Forget that step, and you're out of luck. I think I'll stick with Panasonic from now on. So far, no trouble on the DVD side of this unit. For me, anyway. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke after just a few months
This player stopped reading discs after just a few months.I thought it was just a bad disc, and we don't use portable players often (just for long trips) so i didn't do anything about it, but it's definitely broken and I am having a hard time getting it repaired. For the price I paid I averaged about $25 for each movie we watched on it before it failed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality Poor Service
I am now on my second one of these - the first was replaced (for a $50 fee) because the hinge on the screen broke. Now, a year later, guess what, the hinge on the screen is broke (this interupts the wiring and you can't play DVDs).I called service and their response was, Well, you've had it A YEAR!OMG.Since when are DVD Player's disposable after a year???I can't believe that they don't expect their products to last longer than that.No more Polaroids for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic DVD Player
This problem was such a mess, but Amazon handled it perfectly. A wonderful company to work with.

1-0 out of 5 stars Uncompatible DVD Player
Unfortunately, I was led tobelieved this DVD Player was compatible for my TV.However, it was not. Therefore, I'm unable to use it making me unable to know how it will work. So, be sure to find out if this DVD Player is compatible with your TV, prior to buying it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Astonishing again!
The 2 previous reviews are right: this is a gem of a DVD player at a very modest price. It plays absolutely everything!I have a collection of DVDs from a mail-order correspondence course that are in uneven condition, resulting in lots of skipping across chapters, stalling, etc. That was on my Zenith DVB216--at several times this price, I might add.I was very frustrated with those problems, so I bought this player for Xmas--and it works like a charm.Absolutely flawless tracking. You could put an Oreo in this thing & it would play it!The remote is intuitive & easy to use, the on-screen displays very helpful and unobtrusive.I especially like the quick replay--it backs up about 10 seconds a pop, which is useful in watching DVD classes. The only blemish is that it does not have bevelled edges or finger-grips on the tray for inserting/removing disks (another review commented on this--a minor annoyance).I like it so much I've considered buying two!Highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Versatile Player - Plays NTSC/PAL and Region Free Capable
I looked around for a portable DVD unit that would play multiple disk formats. This player fits the bill - according to its specs, it will play DVD+-RW, CD-R/RW, and Kodak Picture CDs.So far, I've only tested it on commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs, all which play fine.
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice video but poor audio
Bought this for my son cos his toshiba SD-P 2600 broke.I like the picture but disappointed with the sound.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good deal.
