Editorial Review

The first USB turntable that lets you convert your old vinyl collection directly to CD or MP3, the Ion Audio iTTUSB is a must for people who don't want to deal with clumsy adapters or mismatched software when transferring formats. Requiring no special drivers, the turntable comes with Audacity, a recording application that works with both PCs and Macs, as well a trial version of Bias Soundsoap 2 to clean and restore vinyl recordings. As an alternative, the turntable also works with any other software that supports USB audio input sound cards. Once connected, the turntable transfers both 33-1/3 rpm albums and 45 rpm singles to digital formats in mere minutes. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars sounds much better than expected
I bought this unit in order to transfer some of my old LPs to iPod. I expected the result to be comparable to the old days of recording to tape: Pops and other noise permanantly recorded onto a new medium. Wrong! The Audacity software makes it easy to remove minor background crackles and pops. It's also easy to divide the final recording into individual tracks, and to normalize the volume so your various recordings have a balanced output level. The final recordings sound surprisingly good, with a full mid-range and not much of the digital tinny sound that is present on some CD's.
5-0 out of 5 stars Works great - be sure to download latest Audacity
With this product I am able to "rip" records for which I've never been able to find a CD.This is great for listening on my iPod to those obscure songs I really like.
4-0 out of 5 stars great timesaver for burning vinyl
All these reviewers complain of cheap construction and lack of frills but I'd imagine all these people, like myself, have another turntable. I would not recommend this as your only turntable but for the job of burning your vinyl to your hard drive, this is a godsend. Setup seemed pretty straight forward although I have a Vaio, not a Dell, so I can't speak for that system. If you want to burn MP3's, you will need to download LAME, a quick google search away. Remember where you put Lame on your hard drive as you will need to tell Audacity (the Ion software program) where the Lame_enc.dll driver is the first time you make an MP3. I burned my first album with in an hour of opening the box. I see many happy hours ahead of me with my Ion! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Audio-Technica's AT-PL120 direct-drive, high-torque professional turntable is perfect for DJs and other music enthusiasts, especially in an era that many would call "postvinyl," when it's no longer the norm for audio/video receivers or even integrated amplifiers to offer a dedicated phono input. A selectable internal stereo phono preamplifier lets you plug the turntable directly into any line-level input, even your PC's (when used with a stereo RCA to minijack "Y" adapter cable, not included). Alternately, you can use the player's phono output and an outboard, higher-quality phono preamplifier for even better sound quality.Read more

Features

  • Selectable internal stereo phono preamplifier--choose from phono or line-level output
  • Direct-drive, high-torque motor; includes professional cartridge and headshell
  • Selectable 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm speeds; +/-10 percent or +/-20 percent pitch adjust; high-accuracy quartz-controlled pitch lock
  • S-shaped tone arm assembly with adjustable counterweight, antiskate adjustment, tone-arm height adjustment and lock
  • Measures 17.8 x 6 x 13.9 inches (W x H x D)

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible deal-don't miss out on this!
First of all, let me say that I am a very discerning music listener, and have always talked of the superiority of vinyl to all other music playback mediums. This turntable is by far the best you can get on a budget, surpassing many far more expensive than it in both sound quality and options. If you are considering buying a less expensive table, please do yourself a favour and stop. You will only be subjecting yourself to poor quality sound, and even worse craftsmanship as most tables under $200 will only last you a few years at most (I know from experience, unfortunately).
5-0 out of 5 stars Super craftmanship
I've been impressed with every facet of this machine...quiet, easy to operate, and great reproductive sound. I am in the process of transforming all my LPs to CDs so I use this baby nearly every day. Don't see how anyone could be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrifice value - excellent sound quality
I purchased this turntable with the express purpose of converting my large collection of LP's to digital format. This seemed to be the best quality offered from its description for the price.I can tell you that I am not dissapointed at all.The manufacture is excellent, the platter is solid, and the sound reproduction right out of the box surpassed my expectations.Setup was fairly easy. The only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 is that this is a completely manual turntable so you have to lift the arm manually at the end of the record. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Be careful please
I implore you to be very careful about your turntable purchase decision. This Sony table will not make the most out of your listening experience. It has very low quality playback (the stylus picks up more scratches than it does music), the included preamp is mediocre at best, and the belt drive is slightly off pitch. This was my first turtable purchase, and a much regretted one. After only a few years, the motor broke and played only at 45 rpm, necesitating another purchase. I understand what it is to be on a budget, and $60 is very tempting, but if you have to spend that every few years, it adds up fast. You will really be doing yourself a favour in the long run if you spend the extra money on a nicer one and eat raman noodles for a while. The Audio-Technica AT-PL120 direct drive turntable featured on this page is a far superior system, and will give you many more years of faithful service in addition to a much better listening experience. However, if $200 is far out of your reach, then this won't be a horrible table to whet your appetite for a while, and the average listener won't mind the difference in playback quality.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disposable turntable.
I bought this turntable and got a couple years use out of it, and while it worked, it worked. If you're buying something to use once in a blue moon, this one might do.But if you actually play your records, sooner or later, you'll need to replace the stylus.Or the cartridge.Either way, if you buy this one, you're out of luck. The diamond fell of the stylus on mine, and there doesn't seem to be anything that's replaceable. There's no removable cartridge like you'd find on any decent quality turntable manufactured in the 1980s. Now there doesn't seem to be anything to do with mine other than throw it in the trash. It wasn't terribly expensive--the whole turntable can be had for not a whole lot more than a good quality cartridge--so it's disposability isn't that big a deal from a strictly economic standpoint. But darn it, it just rubs me the wrong way.I'd rather pay a bit more to have something that I can still use ten years down the line than to save a few bucks on something that's going to end up in a landfill in a couple years.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great but not stackable :(
After listening to 7 or 8 vinyls I fell back in love with my old albums - but then after laying down and having to get up every 4 tracks to flip the discs - I recalled a time when I could stack 4,5,6,7,8,9...albums and they would drop and keep on playing - then you flipped them all over to hear the B-sides.I hate getting up.I don't have knobs on my TV (remember that UHF knob ugh!) to switch channels every 30 minutes, why would I want to get up right in the middle of a great series of albums?

The Numark PT01 portable turntable is an ideal unit for DJs on the go. Measuring a mere 12 by 12 inches, the turntable comes with a full array of features yet stores conveniently inside the average record crate for simple and efficient transport. The size, however, is just window dressing compared to the unit's DJ functions. The PT01's belt-driven motor operates at speeds of 33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm, giving users access to everything from modern LPs to classic singles to old-school jazz and blues discs. DJs will also appreciate the +/- 10 percent pitch control, along with the tone and volume controls. And monitoring is simple thanks to the built-in phono preamp, accompanying speaker, and dual 1/4- and 1/8-inch headphone jacks. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Product is Garbage, Numark is No Help
I have a massive record collection, and had continued buying records even after the Aiwa turntable I had stopped working.I saw this on Amazon and saw it was small, reasonably priced, and had a pitch control.Initially I played my 7" records on it, and it was just fine.Once I started playing my 12" records the trouble began.About halfway through any record I play the pitch begins to waver (subtly speeds up and slows down).I contacted Numark and told them about the problem.I got a response telling me I needed to buy a different needle to play 78 RPM records on the turntable. This was a confusing response as I hadn't even mentioned 78 RPM records in my e-mail (nor do I own any).So I write again and explain that my question wasn't answered. So then I'm told I should try to balance the arm properly.I write back again and say that I mentioned in BOTH my e-mails that the unit I was inquiring about was a PT-01, and this model has a pre-balanced (non-adjustable) arm.Numark wrote back "oh you're right, just return to dealer".Unfortunately it's too late for that, and Numark was NO help.Their customer service 'team' couldn't even be bothered to read e-mails and answer accordingly.Do not buy this unit, I wasted $100 and now I have to buy a new turntable.I assure you, it won't be a Numark!

I just got this turntable and it's something else. The turntable is heavy and very well built. It was easy to put togather, but the turntable is manual.Nothing is automatic so be aware, I personally like it that way.Once you hook the table up and play a LP, the LP sounds GREAT and REALLY SMOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars Ion iTT03X Direct Drive Turntable
This turntable is very well built - heavy duty, especially "heavy." I ordered this model by mistake but I am very pleased with it. The stop/start button makes it especially nice for recording old records onto tape or cd. It produces unusually nice sound out of old records. It plays 78, 33, & 45. I am pleased with it. ... Enjoy a whole new level of LP independence with the Crosley CR49 Traveler. Inspired by the original portable turntables of the late 1950s, the belt-drive unit is versatile enough to play all three common speeds--33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm--so you're not restricted to any one part of your vintage record collection. In addition, the table's black suitcase housing includes a pair of built-in, full-range stereo speakers, in effect turning the Traveler into a LP boombox (though without the battery power). The effortless portability makes this a great turntable for traveling, visiting friends, or simply enjoying albums in the garage, basement, or other secondary rooms. The case is stylish, too, with a vintage appearance that beautifully complements traditional furnishings. The Traveler even comes with an adjustable tone control, adding to its versatility, along with a diamond-stylus needle. So whether your tastes run to classic jazz or modern rock, savor your vinyl in style with the Crosley Traveler.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit
I do a lot of comparison shopping- too much, in fact.I often become confused!I tried several different types of record players before this- from high end turntables to all-in-one models. If you are looking for a sturdy record player with integrated speakers to keep your record collection alive, this will fit the bill.I found the size, look and quality all to be right for the price.I paid more for a turntable that I hooked up to my sound system and wasn't as happy.I've found that when it comes to these items, the simpler, the better. This is a great record player- it has even inspired me to start buying vinyl again. If you are a very picky audiophile, you probably won't like it- but then you probably have a hard time finding anything to satisfy you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Take your LPs on the road with is great player.
So I was in the market for a portable turntable. I wasn't really into the styling of the top load players...the plastic looking ones with chrome accents. They seemed cheap looking, and honestly a pain to transport. The suitcase model was an instant winner, the design is clean, simple and functional and the outer casing is tough as nails. The case looks big in pictures because a 78 is on the platter, in actuality it leaves a footprint a little smaller than 2 computer keyboards facing each other.

I bought mine to digitize my LP collection, so I did not need something that would last a long time. It does the job but a few disappointments:
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Comes with a good cartridge and needle, comes with a plastic top, with weight changing and anti skating.Other people seem to have problems with the shipping, but i had no problems. The plastic was not warped. It is 62% off, this is probably as good as the expensive ones.Make sure you get a preamp for this, it does not have one buit in.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Turntable
Occasionally a piece of equipment comes along that is so well designed, well built and far ahead of the pack that it defines the state of the art and any major improvements are not only unnecessary but impossible. 30 some odd years ago Technics released the first SL1200 direct drive turntables and defined what phono turntables should be; affordable, reliable, excellent. In the 30 years since then there have only been minor revisions to the SL1200.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent setup
For $330, this setup isn't all that great of a deal.I will say that this is an excellent set up for beginners and "dj's" that just spin records at parties, but a serious performance or production dj will be frustrated with needle skipping while scratching, blending, mixing, etc.Its not awful, but shell out $200 more bucks and have a better setup. Also for $180 you can get Ions complete dj kit, sure they are belt drive turntables, but you save over $100 and get a mic.All in all the set up is not bad, the mixer is actually of high quality, but when numark doesn't offer replacement parts off of their website(yes, you will need to replace these groove tool needles) and if your pressed for cash, you can get near the same quality for far cheaper. But if you are just starting out and want a good set up for under $500, this is a sure bet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good price, good beginner package
The best package for beginners. You don't have to spend a lot of money to start scratching and djing around. The world's first direct-drive digital turntable, the Technics SL-DZ1200 gives you the feeling of spinning vinyl on a classic Technics turntable while working with digital formats like CD, MP3, and AAC. Just like the Technics direct-drive turntables you've used and loved before, the 10-inch platter simulates the feeling and sound of scratching and spinning albums, but gives you the freedom and versatility of working with digital files on both CD or SD memory cards. A Vinyl Sim feature can take digital audio and give it the distinctly analog sound that comes from a turntable so what you're playing even sounds like an album. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say.
When I first bought the Technics SL-DZ1200, I bought it more for the looks then anything. Actually I would rarely get on it for the first few months, maybe once every 2-3 weeks. When I actually started to learn its features, and mix it with my crossfader mixer's FX, then I think I fell in love. Mind you, if you want really mind blowing FX, you'll probably have to connect it to some other unit, but apart from that, The scratching is pretty good, some times, when I practice, the scratch actually sounds like a Vinyl (Not Always), but the more I practice with it, the more closer it sounds to it. Like the first review said, it does take some time for the CD to load, but hey, isnt everything in life like that? Buy some other CD Turntable, and it will probably beat Technics in some areas, but then Technics will do the same in the other areas. You win and lose, regardless.
2-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE - 30 second cd load time.
If you plan on using your unit for real gigs, BEWARE. It takes at least 30 seconds from the moment the deck accepts your cd to the moment you can actually start cueing it up. NOT GOOD.
4-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic Technics SL-DZ1200 Direct-Drive Digital Turntable
Finally, Technics has out done themselves. For those who have been acustomed to turntables and have been hesitant to journey into the world of CD turntables, your time has arrived. This unit is loaded with features that are user friendly. My only knock is the price, but if you can afford it GET IT! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The De Facto Turntable
I am a DJ/Beatmaker from Brooklyn N.Y. and have grown up with hip-hop. The 1200's are the de facto standard for DJ's and studio work. There is a reason why they are found in every club and studio on the planet! They have solid build, very stable and realiable....will last a lifetime! I had an older pair that went "missing" during a move and so I had to replace them with these. I brought two and highly recommend them to all turntablist and beatmakers...........keeping it hot in East New York......Supreme.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo Technics !
Other than the Gold Ltd. Edition Technics turntable, this is the one to make any dj the envy of the block. Expanded pitch adjustable features, braking adjustment settings, and long lasting led illuminator lights and increased anti-skating make this absolutely a spectacular analog machine/ dj instrument. Quality build is superb and built to outlast anything out there in the competitive market... The ONLY minor mistake not used in really completing the whole package is a lack of a key adjust control. Basically, with a key adjust you can speed up or slow down the beats or the music without vocalists sounding like chipmunks, or Barry White speaking in slow motion ! Key adjust just changes the speed of the music and vocals, not the pitch or tune...This is just a small bonus feature that would have been nice to have; Denon and another company name have already done this for their brand of DJ turntables... ... The Technics SL-1200MK5 turntable's sturdy build, high-quality parts, and great features--including many new to the MK5 model--make it more perfect for DJs than ever before. In 1970, Panasonic introduced the world's first direct-drive turntable, the SL-1200, which was superseded by the now-legendary SL-1200MK2--the "wheel of steel" as it's affectionately called. The MK5, boasting an upgraded motor and cool features like increased anti-skate ability and a long-life que lamp, still offers one of the only motors capable of withstanding the high-torque starts and record-gripping stops you need for your "scratch."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Technics Lives On and On....
Basically a carryover of theSL 1200 M3D table (1999-2002) with a few friendly DJ minor adjustments (brighter, long life L.E.D. stylus pop up light, more antiskating for non-skipping during scratching and adjustable braking speed)...Is this Technics 'table worth it's weight in gold (I think between 30 to 35 pounds)? Without a doubt !It's built like a Sherman Tank to withstand vibrations from speakers or the dance floor which would otherwise cause the needle to skip around or transfer unwanted noise to the tonearm and out the speakers; an enclosed loop of unwanted noise. Heavy, heavy, construction of the anti-resonant plinth/chasis,platter speaks in volumes about the craftsmanship Technics puts into the "Wheel of Steel". Other than the build quality, what's the sound quality like?It can yield either professional (DJ use), near-audiophile (for that sound purist who wants to just listen to records or transfer to cd-r format) or club-quality scratching top grade sound (the direct drive motor and torque is built Chevy or Ford tough for the use and abuse).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The industry standard.
When a turntable remains the industry standard for more than 20 years, you should know there is good reason for it. A solid, reliable platform for any DJ's creativity. You don't need any of the fancy gizmos on the digital decks, all you need are these, some good tunes and a bit of imagination.
5-0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT!
After years of contemplation I bought 2 Technics SL-1200MK2's. What a great descision! The first thing I noticed is how much better vinyl sounds than CD's. It takes long term exposure to digital audio to realize it, but the truth is that 44.1 16-bit or MP3's are both inferior to analog sound. This is especially true with my old records that were recorded, mixed, and mastered without digital compression technology.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars YUK!
Ive come to find out that the age old saying "you get what you pay for" is true in turntables more than anything else in the world...if your serious about djing your gonna have to buy the technics...sorry, ive coughed up more money trying to get by with cheaper decks like these than I would of buying a brand new pair of sl-1200's. the pitch control on here is pretty good for a numark (most of them wobble about like crazy!) but the motor sucks! It speeds up when you try to slow it! My gosh! ...also...Ive had a problem with both where they'll just stop sometimes...I'll have to turn the power off & on to get it back to working...then last week, BAM! It wont spin at all! I could be at home slamming it out on the decks right now! Instead im writeing this bad review for these horrid little turntables, AVOID!

4-0 out of 5 stars Gerbil exercise mat turns in circles
This Gerbil exercise mat turns in circles, allowing enough calorie consumption from fat gerbils to lose weight in about a month.Has dual speed control and a soft padding for sensitive feet, also has easy clean up for expected gerbil waste. At night can be used as a spinning wheel to clean dirty grapes or eye sockets in monkey skulls.

1-0 out of 5 stars Well, it can play a record...
That's about it.Oh, and it's pretty. My TT-200's have been such an enormous hassle to own.I don't like that the tone arm is so high up that if you use a low profile cart with the strait arm that the needle won't touch the record without that thick neoprene mat.I don't like how the power supply creates so much interference that Stanton 680 and Grado DJ200i will pick up EM hum from it.The Average Wow & Flutter is rated at better than 0.2%, but that is right at the margin of what is audible. There is no rating for Peak W&F, and from the slightly smeared highs on every cart you try (except for the harshest and brightest ones) I'd guess it's much worse than 0.2%.How much?I have no idea and I'd bet money that Numark doesn't know either.

1-0 out of 5 stars dont forget the amp
nowhere in the description does it say that you have to perchase an amp seratly but you do i was under the inpretion that for 150 bucks it would be good to go as soon as i plugged it into some speekers but boy was i wronge amazon was helpfull but the other company was willing to offer me $15 off the perchase price if i would keep it and not return it. what does that tell you i did keep it but only because they wanted me to pay return shipping costs and would not refund my original shipping so in the long run i would have ended up paying about $30 to return it. i was very dissapointed with their service but i still have a turntable to play my records.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing Product
I was execting a better product than what I received since it is a NUMARK product made in the U.K.. The Price was so tempting approx. $66, probably that's what you get when you pay cheap. But regarding the service of amazon, I have no complain about it, everything was smooth till I returned the product. ... Read more
